Fixed

Jason rests his own head against Katie's, and settles in for the flight home. It would be soon enough that everyday crazies were back... he wasn't looking forward to getting back to work, and enjoying this quiet time now was nice.

Carson gives a wave and smile to Jess as she leaves. "Yeah - milkshakes it is. Later." Watching her leave for a moment, he glances to Aerith and tosses her a wink. "Jess needs friends...thanks for being one."

Remembering the menu he was supposed to be working on, he turns to head back into the kitchen. Passing Mabel on his way, he grins. "We won't forget the pumpkin pie."

Heading down the road, the radio is loud, the sunroof open, even though it's chilly. The scenery flies by as the black Corvette heads away from Vegas.

Bret taps his fingers on the steering wheel, looking through his sunglasses at the long road ahead. Looking in the rearview mirror though, he frowns a little, then glances at his speed. "Okay, so I was going a little fast, but that cop back there has been tailing us for ages now."

He throws Charlotte a teasing grin. "You did get rid of that body from the trunk, didn't you?"

A few more miles, and surprisingly, the police cruiser passes them, speeding ahead of them down the highway.

"Mm-hmm..." Con cradles the phone on his shoulder as he warms up his lunch in the microwave. "So they called off the cops? Why?"

"They wanted to see if he went anywhere other than home. There's going to be someone waiting for him though once he gets there."

Con frowns at Reese's serious tone. "This isn't good, is it?"

"Nope."

"Well...I'm glad I called. Thanks for telling me. I know it's private information."

"Ah, well...I trust you, and I know you're Bret's friend."

"So what's he looking at?"

"Armed robbery and murder."

"I just can't think he was involved."

"I guess we'll have to see what he says about it. I've given orders to take him downtown to the station once they have him. Even though it's TJY's case, I figure the jail is a better place to handle this to keep everything in the open."

"Yeah...I suppose..." The microwave beeps and Con finishes getting his meal. "Alright. Well, thanks. I'll talk to you later." Ending the call, he stares at his warmed up leftovers, deep in thought. He just could't believe Bret had done anything like this...he'd worked with him... been his friend... sure, Bret had a record, but...

Con shakes his head. What he was about to do was totally out of line. But he didn't want fear to cause a ruckus one Bret got back... and if this could be approached the right way...

Bret's cell phone rings, and he rolls his eyes. He'd ignored all incoming calls the last couple days, but now figured he could start taking them again. He was on his way home, so it didn't matter all that much.

Reaching into the backseat, he grabs his phone to answer it, keeping one hand on the wheel. "Yeah, hello." He smile. "Hey, Con, what's up? Me? Oh, just been out of town." He winks at Charlotte. "Naw, I'm on my way back now, actually, I... what's that?"

Bret's tone suddenly changes as his face pales slightly. "Whoa, whoa, hang on a minute..." Concentrating on his driving, Bret pulls off onto the shoulder and puts his car in park. "What was that? ...But I... No, you gotta believe me." His eyes widen. "Honest, I was out of town. Yeah... Yeah, I do have someone who could testify to that." He glances at Charlotte again. "She's sitting right here. Yeah...Charlotte...I.... No, it's not..." He rolls his eyes. "Long story. Look, are you sure? Well what do I do? I can't... Oh... Well.... But what if...." He taps his fingers on the steering wheel as his nervousness grows. "No, I don't. .....No, Con... I'm telling the truth. I wasn't there. Yeah... Okay, I guess.... I'll decide..." He shrugs lamely. "Appreciate it. Okay. Bye."

Flipping his phone shut, he just sits for a moment, stunned, before looking at Charlotte again. Worry coursed through his eyes. "The police are waiting for me at hom. There's a warrent out for my arrest for armed robbery and murder... They say they have proof that I was there."

He swallows hard and looks out at the road again. He had a choice.... "Con says we should go straight to TJY since your sister's boss is handling the case, rather than going and getting arrested. Turn myself in, basically, to try to prove my innocence." The other choice was to turn south and keep on going.

Bret catches Charlotte's eyes. "What if they don't believe us? What if they try to put me away?"

Getting from the airport, Jason's truck is waiting, where Con had been good enough to park it for him. Deciding to slip by his place first, Jason drives home to drop off his bag before heading to TJY. It was early evening... early enough people would still be at TJY, and late enough that supper wouldn't be too much of a wait.

Turning into his driveway, Jason's eyes widen. Parking, he points. His motorcycle was parked by his house, gleaming in the setting sun, in new-looking condition. "What on earth..."

Getting out to take a closer look, sure enough, his bike had been completely fixed, washed, and even gased up. "Who..." Jason looks back to Katie, confused. "This has been sitting at Mike's since I wrecked it. You don't know who would have taken it to the shop, do you?"

I'd rather

*Watching Wyatt and Trooper leave for a moment Dalton stands up again leting out a long sigh. On he outside his arrogance and cockiness was there and he new it, but on the inside he was just nervouse himself. Being somewhere new, it wasnt often people got use to him. His size made it hard and people always staired. Would it be differnt here or would it just be the same old same old.

Turning Dalton plays around with the masheen again for a moment till finally he gives it a wack and his Jerky falls out. Taking that and his moutain dew Dalton heads back to his office and continues to look through files and paper work geting use to everything in this new place.*

*Jess can't help but giggle as she leans on the counter her eyes meeting Carsons.*

"Well I was thinking about it, but since you asked nicly I guess I can stop by and pick you up. Bring some milkshakes?"

*Standing Jess gathers her things and leans the money on the counter for her coffee. Throwing a wave to Aerith.*

"Once I am settled in my new place I will have to have you and Wyatt come over. I know you alot now but I know nothing about him."

*Aerith gives a smile and throws a wave to Jess.*

"Her sounds like a plan to me. If food is involved I dont think Wyatt will mind."

*Jess gives a nod. It was nice having a few new friends and Aerith had been the first besides Carson. She was nice and Jess liked talking to her. Looking back to Carson Jess brings a hans to his face and runs it over his cheek ending at his chin.*

"I'll see you later Hun."

*Turning Jess exits Mom and Pop's to head home and finish the packing she had to do.*

*Charlotte cant help but give a laugh at Bret. Finally stepping away she grabs her own bag and heads for the door.*

"Ok that sounds good to me. I'll only need a few few things, and a lot of the stuff at my apartment can go to the salvation army or whatever because you have alot of what I have already. Maybe you can come over with me and help me decied what to take and what not to. Like I dont know if you would like my coutch better than yours so on and so forth. All in all though I really don't have much."

*As Charlotte heads down the hall with Bret a suddin nearousness enters her stomach. It was strange almost like something was wrong. Figuring it was just the fact of telling her sister what was up Charlotte shruges it off. Linking her arm with Bret's.*

"I dont need a coin to tell me, I would rather die tomarrow than today."

*Turning and looking at Jason Katie smiles. She felt so much better now, her heart still acked for the loss of Scott but now she was able to deal with it and new she could face work. He was in a better place now and she would see him again sometime. Also, now having Jason again made things a little better too. It was nice not to have to hide her feelings and it was a good feeling to have it returned again. It made Katie feel good inside.

No, thank you for coming to get me, this time I think you were the Hero.

Katie leans her head on Jason's shoulder and closes her eyes. She wan't tired, but she was comfortable enough to fall asleep.*

Trooper

Trooper continues to growl, shifting his head warily as Dalton lowers himself to a knee.

"Trooper, come on," Wyatt begs.

Staring at Dalton for several tense moments, the massive dog finally stops showing his teeth, even though the low rumblings still come from his throat. Eventually, he takes a couple more cautious steps forward, sniffing the air until his nose is almost touching the outstretched hand. Giving one last short woof as if to say "I got my eye on you," Trooper turns around and trots back over to Wyatt, looking up at him to signal that he was now ready to go outside.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Wyatt grumbles as he latches the leash onto Troopers collar. "You stupid..." Looking up at Dalton, he apologizes. "Sorry about that. This is Jason's mutt. Well...I guess technically it's TJY's, but Jason is the only one Trooper ever listens to."

As if to prove the point, Trooper tugs on the leash, making Wyatt stumble. "Somehow I got cursed with being the first one called when Jason is out of town, to take care of this dang brute. We get along as long as it's Trooper's idea." Wyatt shakes his head. "If Jason is gone for a length of time, we seem to work most of our differences out, but the first few miles are torture."

He yanks on the leash again, trying to get Trooper to sit down. "Anyway...you should be alright now that he's seen you."

"Mmm..." Carson grins. "I'd love to have the first meal in your new place with you. I doubt it would take too much convincing to get Herb to let me off early even though I was late this morning. Just swing by here later and if I can, I'll go back with you." He gives Jess a sly look. "Unless you're planning on making me walk."

Bret's eyes shine as he returns Charlotte's kiss, wrapping his arms around her. "I think it was worth it too." His voice grows quiet. "And it's only just begun."

Just looking at his bride for several minutes, he finally lets her go. "Alright then. Let's hit the road. I vote we grab lunch on the way back... then we split up at my place so you can go get at least a few things to survive a night or two until you can move, while I make sure no one's been stupid enough to do anything to the house while I've been gone, and..."

Slinging his bag over his shoulder, Bret stops, rolling his eyes. "And after that it's a coin toss when to pay your sister a visit." He grins. "Tonight may or may not be a good night to die."

Jason stares out the window of the plane, watching the clouds go by. He owed Con a thanks for this one... the trip had changed everything... and the future was looking just a little bit brighter now.

He turns his head to look at Katie, just letting his eyes rest on her face. Thanks for everything, Hero...

First Meal

* Dalton fidgets with the mashean. He is suddenly put on alart as he hears Wyatt's voice in a state of frustration and even a little bit of panic. As His back is still turn to the door he suddenly can hear the growls. Slowly turning around Dalton eyes the large dog for a moment.

Seeing Wyatt come up to the dog and not obayng his orders one could observe this was not his dog. But still the dog meant business and would protect those in the building.

Moving slowly Dalton lowers to one knee and bends over just slightly so that he he is about eye level with the dog. For a moment he looks Trooper in the eyes trys to prove he was not a threat. Not moving to fast as to startle the dog Dalton holds out his hand as an offer for the dog to sniff his hand.*

"I was told to look out for the watch dog. You must be him huh?"

*Dalton stays still with his hand out to Trooper but still keeps his gurad up just in case the dog still did not like him.*

*Jess receives the kiss from Carson with a smile on her face. Over the last few days they had spent a decint amount of time together like normal and when Jess was not at work, or with Carson she was busy packing. Now finally the day had come and she would move.

Pulling away from Carson Jess can't help but smile even more. Life seemed good and was slowly getting better. Is was nice to have things go in the right direction for once.*

"Well, I didn't know if you could get off work early tonight and help me move into my new place. If not its not big deal I just could use the help and I wanted you to have the first meal there with me."

*Putting her bag on the ground for a moment Charlotte comes up behind Bret and wraps her amrs around his wast. It hadn't been to long yet but so far she was loved being Ms. Charlotte Parker. It gave her an unending happyness she had never felt before. Continuing to hold Bret Charlotte gives a small chuckle.*

"She is going to kill us you know that? Picturing her face in my head right now is kind of funny."

*Charlotte lets go of Bret and walks around so she is standing in front of him putting her arms around his neck and pulling him a little bit closer Charlotte brings her lips to his for a moment and than once again draws away still holding on to him.*

"No matter what she says it was worth it and I know I made the right desition."

Guard dog

Wyatt opens his mouth to say something else, but stops, just watching Dalton walk away. Well, that had been...a little awkward. He lifts his eyebrows at the reason for Dalton's leaving. What was it with tech guys anyway?

He gives a little sigh. Well...maybe inviting Dalton to hang out at supper hadn't been the greatest idea, but he hadn't been able to come up with anything else. If Dalton wasn't a people person, Wyatt didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable... It was different though... such a contrast to Scott...

He shakes his head and turns to leave the office. He needed to quit comparing Dalton to Scott. Walking down the hall, he hollers over his shoulder. "If the machine doesn't work, just give it a whack - usually does the trick."

A low bark from Jason's office interrupts his train of thought. Oh yeah...he'd forgotten. Con had told him Trooper was here and needed to be looked after.

Sighing, Wyatt goes to Jason's door and is sure to speak before opening it. "Hey, buddy, it's just me...coming in now..." He opens the door cautiously, seeing the massive dog look at him with distrust before sniffing the air, then deciding Wyatt was a friend not foe.

Wyatt lets out a breath of relief. He'd taken care of Trooper at his own house, he'd watched him for quite the length of time, and often whenever Jason was gone... But he and the dog never could seem to get along all that well. And whenever Jason had been around, once it was just Wyatt and Trooper again, the dog seemed to have to get to know him all over again, starting with distrust, and working his way up to plain disobedient. He wasn't mean, and didn't threaten Wyatt, but if caught off guard, especially by anyone going into Jason's office, Trooper was unpredictable.

"Alright, big guy. Where's your leash? Con said it was..."

Trooper has no intention of waiting and bolts.

"Trooper! Heel!"

No use. The dog paid no mind to Wyatt. But instead of going for the exit, he lumbered down the hall toward the breakroom, and the sound of someone he considered to be an intruder. Stopping in the doorway, the fur on the back of his neck bristles, and his lips raise to show his teeth as a low growl comes out. He eyes Dalton with suspicion, and takes a protective stance.

"Trooper, no! Back off!" Wyatt jogs up to him, just to be snapped at when getting too close. Jerking back, Wyatt scowls. "Mutt, this is the last time, or so help me, I'll shoot you myself. Back off!"

Trooper licks his chops and backs up a step, but continues to growl with no intention of stopping.

Wyatt reaches for his collar, but the dog snaps as him again, warning him not to touch him. Wyatt was irritated and just a little scared. His words are spoken in annoyance through his teeth. "Jason, you are dead." He tries again. "Trooper. Heel."

Instead, Trooper takes several steps into the breakroom, his head lowered as he continues to growl and make his way toward Dalton.

Carson can tell Herb isn't a hundred percent satisfied with his response, but is grateful for the change in topics. He grins at the mention of the sauce for the chicken and shrugs. "Maybe I added a little something extra."

Hearing Herb mention not being afraid of Mable, Carson's eyebrows raise. "I thought..." He jumps as Mable interrupts them, and offers her a little wave of innocence. "Pumpkin pie... got it." He gives a thumbs up.

At knowing Jess was there, he nods, and rises from his seat. "I'll be right back," he informs Herb. Heading through the double doors, he comes out to greet Jess with a kiss. "Hey, babe. Only got a minute. I got a late start this morning. How ya doing?"

Bret sighs as he zips up his duffel bag and scans the hotel bedroom one last time. "Looks like I got everything... though I could stay here another week."

He turns to throw Charlotte a grin. "I guess going home is inevitable though isn't it." His eyes widen slightly. "And I suppose we need to come up with some smooth plan of telling your sister just what we've, um, been up to." His grin turns sheepish, though his eyes dance, signaling that he thought it was downright fun to have eloped, leaving Angelica in the dark.

Pumpkin Pie

*Looking at Wyatt for a long moment Dalton just studys his as his brain moves a million miles a minute trying to process and read him. What was his motive for going out to dinner or was it just his own mind that kept playing games and reading into things to much.*

"Ya I think I can manage to find some time to do dinner. Though I am not much of a people person."

*Dalton stands and makes his way to the door towering over Wyatt. Ducking to exit He turns back around.*

"If you need anything I'll be back I just saw there was beef jerky in the vending mashean and Mountain dew. I better get some to help me think than I can start."

*Turning Dalton heads to the breakroom.*

*Just looking at Carson for a long moment Herb says nothing. You could lead a horse to water but you cant make them drink. The more you try and force them the more they wont. The same was with Carson. Herb could push all he wanted but that wouldnt make Carson tell what he was doing. Eventuly it would just drive him away. Finally giving a nod Herb talks.*

"Ok, I believe you. If you need to talk about anything, anything at all. I'm here for you Carson."

*Leaning over a little bit Herb looks down at the paper where Carson was writing.*

"Yeah everyone loved the chicken parm. Since you came they say the sause tasts even better. I dont know if you add some extra stuff to it, or if its just a knack you have but you do good. Oh, and Mable said we had to add pumpkin pie to the list or she will have our heads."

*Herb can't help a small cheese grin that pass his face as he leans a little closer to Carson.*

"Personaly I'm not scaired of her."

*As if hearing everything Mable pokes her head into the kitchen.*

"HERB..."

*Herbs eyes go wide as he gives a little jump not exspecting Mable to be right there.*

"Yes dear?"

*Mable can't help the smile as the sounds of Aerith and Jess giggles come from the other room both peeking there heads over the counter window.*

"First, Did you tell Carson to put pumpkin pie on the menu?"

*Herb looks to Carson and shakes his head a little and than looks back to Mable.*

"Yes dear."

*Mable smiles.*

"Good, and Second, Carson Jess is here to see you."

*Mable stratens and turns around leaving the kitchen.*

Not saying

“Yeah…it’ll just take time,” Wyatt agrees. “We’re not that bad of a bunch once you get used to us.” He smiles a little, trying to overcome his own discomfort. “Say, um… I don’t know what any of your plans are, but there’s a little family Italian place downtown that we all like to hang out at… maybe some of us can get together for supper or something… kinda get to know each other a little better.”

Carson’s eyes stayed glued to the table as Herb gently confronts him. He wanted to get upset, but knew he had no right to. He’d asked Herb from the get-go to keep an eye on him, and he was doing just that. Carson couldn’t retaliate, nor could he deny that he’d just told a lie to someone who’d been trying to help him change.

He fidgets with his pen in his hand, weighing his options. Finally he answers, though his eyes are still down. “I…I’ve just had a few delays on my jogging route, that’s all.”

A bit of heat returns to his face. “It just…um… it’s kinda stuff I wanted to do, that’s all.” He shrugs.

Eventually, Carson glances up to look Herb in the eye. “I haven’t had a drop of liquor.”

ask again

*Dalton raises an eyebrow to Reese and looks up at him shaking his head.*

"I wasn't trying to say Scott didnt show you guys anything I was just stating that I will show you all a few tricks so you can have the feeling of...."

*Figuring it was a lost cause Dalton just shakes his head and looks at the computer again. Not even bothing to notice that Reese had left and Wyatt enters till he speaks.

Looking up and at Wyatt's hand for a moment than reaches out to shake it. Giving a small nod.*

"Nice to meet you. It will just take time for everyone to get use to me. I'll be fine as well, just need to get use to where everything is."

*Studying Carson for a moment Herb's worry only increases for a moment being able to see through his lies. Walking over to the table where Carson was sitting Herb leans on the table. He didnt want Carson to think he didnt trust him but he did ask to be looked after.*

"Carson, I trust your not getting into trouble but your back in controll of your money but you still asked to be looked after and thats what I am doing. Lieing about where you were is not going to help you any. I am sure you have a good reason for being late but how is anyone going to trust you if you can't be honest about the simple things."

*Herb eyes his friend and gives a smile trying his best to let his trust show through.*

"So, I'll ask you again before we start the fall menu. How come you have been late the last few days?"

*Herb slides into the chair next to Carson and looks down at the paper he was working on trying to keep the atmaushepe comfortable as he could for his young friend.*

Menu

Reese watches Dalton for a few minutes, making sure he was set. At the comment about learning though, he crosses his arms, a little defensive. "Scott did a very good job at showing us everything we needed to know, and taught us all a lot. Now I'm not saying we're idiots around here, but some of us aren't as computer savvy as others. Besides that, we can learn all we can, but we still don't have enough time to keep up with this stuff on our own, which is why we needed you."

Hearing Dalton speak of Scott's organized information, Reese gives a satisfied nod. "Scott may have appeared scatterbrained, but he did keep all the necessary information nice and neat. And...I expect you'll do the same."

Feeling a little overly tense about the whole thing, Reese decides just to make his exit. "Don't have to clock in an out, but I'd appreciate it if you at least let Susanne or myself know when you're here or gone. If you need anything, holler."

Without waiting for a response, Reese heads out of the office. He almost runs into Wyatt in the hall, but barely excuses himself before aiming for his own office. Wyatt lifts his eyebrows and looks into Scott's office, seeing the new guy. Glancing back to his dad, then back to Dalton, he gives a little sigh and enters. He'd just gotten in, so hadn't met him yet.

He walks up to the desk and extends his hand. "Hi, Dalton. I'm Wyatt. You'll have to excuse my dad's abruptness. We, um... we're not used to not having Scott around here. I'm sure this puts you in a bit of an odd position."

Jason gives Katie a smile, glad that she felt strong enough to return with him. "Alright then...if we want to be back before midnight, we better get cracking."

After gathering up their things, and saying goodbye to Cindy and Wes, Jason and Katie head to the ranch.

Carson gives a little groan and rolls his eyes. He'd forgotten all about the menu. "Sorry...slipped my mind. I'll get right on that." He flops down in a chair at the little table in the corner of the kitchen and grabs a napkin to scribble on.

Hearing Herb's question though, he raises his head, a bit of color coming to his face. Now that he had back his control over his own money, did Herb suspect he was getting into trouble again?

"I, um..." Carson fished for a moment. "Yeah...yeah, everything is fine." He forces a crooked smile. "They got construction up on fifth, so my jogging route had to change a bit. Not to mention, my watch petered out on me a few days ago. I just gotta get back on track. Sorry about being late."

He looks back down quickly at his task and swallows hard, wondering if Herb sensed the lame fib. His jogging route never had gone up fifth street before.

Sighing, he tries to concentrate as his mind wants to wander. "I think we should keep the chicken parmigiana around - that's a favorite. Hey, did you ever offer chicken and shrimp, like with a parmesan cream sauce?" He squints, trying to think, then snaps his fingers. "What'd they call... carbonara, yeah."

Ready

*Dalton follows Reese around TJY, not saying much but exstending his hand to the few people he was introduced to. This certinly was differnt than the base back in Arizona for sure and it would take some getting use to.

Finally getting to the office that would now be his Dalton ducks and enters the room scanning his new work area. As Reese talks Dalton goes over to the desk and flips on the computer taping his large finger absintmindly on the edge as the computer boots. After the computer is booted Dalton is already busy typing away at the keybored looksing at files and folders trying to see everything they had.*

"Ah, this should be cake walk your netword is GAN. It's not hard to work I can even show you how yourself so your not so lost next time."

*Dalton continues to type and look at differnt things before finally looking up at Reese again. With a bit of unintended harshness in his voice Dalton reply to Reese.*

"I have no problem running to the aid of whoever has the problem, I'll show them how to fix it as well. You'll never learn anything if yours not showed."

*Clicking away a little more Dalton finally removes his sunglasses and puts them ontop of his head. It seems he was amazed and even inthralled about the word Scott had done.*

"Scott really did make sure everything was covered here. I've been here only a few hours and already know so much. He left no table unturned."

*Silent again for a moment and than almost as if coming out a trans Dalton looks to Reese.*

"I'm ok on a place. Thank you though."

*Turning in the spinning chair Dalton goes to one of the fileing cabnits and starts pulling out a few papers.*

*Katie sits at the small table and takes a sip of her milk. Thinking for a moment before speeking.*

"Yeah I better head to the ranch and say hi to Rosetta and Mick or they will never let it down."

*Standing Katie walks her glass to the sink before returning to the table.*

"After that...."

*Katie stops and thinks for a moment before looking to Jason and giving a smile.*

"...I think I am ready to go back to Nevada so I will come along with you."

*As Carson enters the kitchen Herb raises an eyebrow only momnetarly at Carson. He's noticed he had been late the last few days and had let it slide. Carson was doing really well with staying out of trouble but now, it was starting to worry Herb even though he new in his heart it was probely nothing.*

"Well...you can start with making up the fall menu for me."

*Herb gives a small smile knowing Carson probely forgot with everything that was going on.*

"I need that done by the end of the week. If you changed your mind about making it up for me thats ok. I can do it just give me the word."

*Going back to what he was doing Herb is quiet for a long while before turning back around to Carson and giving a small nod, his tone kept even so Carson didn't feel like he was attacking him.*

"Is everything going ok Carson? I've noticed you have been late the last few days and I just want to make sure everything is alright."

Dibs

Susanne watches Dalton leave, cocking her head a little. He was certainly an interesting replacement for Scott... talk about opposites. Getting into her desk drawer for a ruler, she spies an expired coupon for beef jerky that she'd planned to pass along. She hadn't had the heart to throw it away yet.

Reese spins around, startled out of his thoughts, and can't help just a little surprise. It passes quickly though, and he slides into professional mode, extending his own hand. "Hi, Dalton, Yes, I'm Mike. Everyone around here calls me Reese - that one's up to you."

He smiles and tucks Scott's nameplate in his back pocket. "Good to have you - we're going crazy around here. You'd think our computers would at least work for a little while, but as luck would have it..."

Reese sighs and shakes his head. "Anyway...follow me. Let me show you around the place and the office you'll be in too."

Taking Dalton around the department, he introduces him to people that are there, shows him the lower level, then finally winds up at the office. "Well...in here's the main hub I guess." He switches on the light. "I'd try to show you the ropes, but I don't have a clue how the network was set up. Thankfully, Scott seems to have kept pretty good records. There's a couple notebooks there of stuff he had written down... then there's a couple files on his computer's desktop that have a lot of information too. I, um..."

Reese pauses, trying not to let it show how difficult this was for him. "...be prepared for the staff to yell when something goes wrong... Scott was always real good about running to people's computers, even when it was a user error. So... bear with us I guess. Oh, and..."

He quickly changes the subject. "There's a room right down the hall you're more than welcome to stay in until you find a place, unless you've already got one, that is."

Jason falls over backward as Katie pushes him. "Hey!"

Receiving Wes' words, his eyes widen. "I didn't bring the ice in here! I just..." His voice trails off, and he decides maybe it's better just to leave things as they were and not make them worse. I just made a complete idiot of myself is what I did.

Picking himself up from the floor, he brushes himself off and trots down the hall. "First dibs on the shower!"

Cindy is grinning as Wes comes up behind her, and turns her head to give his cheek a kiss. "You can get the plates out if you want."

Before they know it, breakfast is over, and the table has been all but exhausted of small talk. Jason twirls his juice glass in his hand, glancing to Katie. "I take it you're going to head to the ranch. I figure I might come along, then just leave from there. Call a cab or something to get to the airport. You sticking around here, or heading back to Nevada today?"

Carson hurries into the kitchen, grabbing his apron and heading for the sink. It was the third morning in a row now that he'd been late... Herb hadn't said anything, and Carson was grateful, but knew he needed to work harder. It was just as well that no one ask why he was taking longer on his jogs in the mornings...for now, it was just better that way.

"Sorry, Herb. Where we at?"

Love Birds

*Dalton can't help the cheesy grin that pass across his face fast before it gone again at Susanne's comment.*

"I'm sure I can handle it. Thanks...."

*Dalton looks down at the name plate on Susanne's desk and than back up at her giving a half a smile.*

"...Susanne."

*Making a pivot Dalton turns and heads back out of Susanne's office heading across the mail floor once again. Glancing down at a few people as he walked. Seeing an older man that about fit the description he was giving enter another room one would guess was the break room Dalton follows ducking as he walks through the door way making sure not to hit his head.

Walking up along side of Reese Dalton clears his trout and sticks out his hand.*

"Mick Reese I presume? The name is Dalton Heathrow, I'm the tech guy from Arizona."

*Hearing the blame passed off onto her Katie stands once again and gives a slap and a push to Jason sending his backwards.*

"You jerk, if you hadn't launched me off the coutch this wouldn't have happend."

*Though sounding like she was upset Katie's eyes show a differnt story as they dance and twinkle with light that shows she was laughing and smileing.*

*Wes can't help but chuckle and shake his head before looking back to Jason.*

"No, no curfew you both are adults who are smart I don't think we have to worry about that."

*Wes can see the embarssment in Jason's eyes and trys to make it a little better not sure if it was working or not.*

"How about next time a little less ice on the floor though water damage is not fun to replace."

*Giving a smile again and shaking his head again as he turns Wes heads back to the kitchen yelling over his shoulder.*

"Come on love birds dinner is ready and there is no way your mom is going to let you out of here without any food."

*Wes can't help but throw Cindy a smile as she is in the kitchen and than comes up behind her wrapping his arms around her wast and resting his chin on her shoulder.*

"Do you need any help babe?"

Let me guess...

Susanne is busy typing at her computer, and barely hears someone enter. Finishing off the line she finally looks up and does a double-take at the large man before her. “Uh…y.. I mean, yes…” She blinks, then finds her smile. “I’m sorry. You must be Dalton. Yes, Mike is here, but I think he’s back down the other hallway in the office you’ll be in. It’s just right back there, across the main floor and down. If you run into trouble…”

She stops and lifts her eyebrows. “Well…I think you can probably handle it.”

Reese ambles absentmindedly down the hall, pausing in the breakroom door. Sometimes it felt like TJY was falling apart, with the men he was losing… the moods around the place… They were handling cases okay… but it just felt… He wasn’t sure what it felt like. Almost as if the life had been sucked out of the department. But they had to concentrate whether they wanted to or not. Another robbery had happened that morning, and this time someone had been killed. Though used to undercover cases, this one had to he handled and handled quickly.

Jason takes in Katie’s kiss, returning his own, as his fingers gently lie along her face. Good morning, Katie.

The emotions he’d kept in for so long… that he’d denied… to let them out was a feeling that couldn’t be described. He had loved Katie for so long… and though never forgetting how it felt, being able to once again express it, made it seem like it was new all over again.

His eyes closed, he just enjoys the moment, forgetting where he is.

At the sound of Wes’ voice though, he’s immediately back to attention, and jerks from Katie, rolling back so he’s sitting up. “It was Katie.” Hearing the first thing that came to mind come out of his mouth, he can’t believe he said that.

Looking at Katie, he gives a shrug of apology, and then cocks his head to look up at Wes, trying to keep his embarrassment at bay. “Let me guess…. The next time we get a curfew?”

Good Morning

*The elevator opens on the main floor to TJY as a very tall 6'8 foot man enters. He was slim for being so tall but he was muscle. His hair was short and black with a small goatee. His shades shield his eyes.

Starting to make his was across the floor he scans the area looking for Reese. Seeing a few offices he knocks on the one door and enters give a nod to Susanne. Stanind tall Dalton look down at her.*

" I'm Dalton the new tech guy. Is Mike Reese around?"

*Katie looks up at Jason her own face turning a little red but a smile spreads acorss her lips anyways.

I'm not to sure myself, but whatever it is you do it too.

Katie can't help but bring her own hand to Jason's face as she smiles up at him. The light and love dancing in her eyes.

If you find out though, let me know.

Lifting her head Katie brings her lips to Jason's as she send another message.

Good Morning.*

*Hearing the comotion in the other room Wes stands throwing Cindy a look. Leaving the kitchen and heading into the livingroom Wes takes a glance and see Katie and Jason. For a moment he is a bit shocked at the sight before him. Though knowing who Jason and Katie both are he knows it was something innocent and not as bad as it looked. Not wanted to shock eather of the to much Wes loudly clears his throut before looking at the ice on the carpet.*

"HEY.....how got the floor wet?"

How do you?

Jason’s eyes widen as Katie returns and he spots the ice. He puts his hands up in defense, but she’s too quick.

Cringing, Jason gives a jump. “Oooh, no, no, not ice, not ice!”

Squirming to get the ice cubes out of his shirt, he sits up fast, accidentally dumping Katie onto the floor again. But as he stands up to shed the ice, his feet get tangled on Katie, and before he knows it, he’s down too.

For a moment, it’s a tangle of legs and arms and flying ice cubes.

Cindy looks up from the stove and turns toward the living room. “What on earth…” She throws her husband a questioning glance. “What are those two up to?”

Panting, Jason finally gains some leverage on his elbows, keeping himself from being face down on the floor. Only it takes him a moment to realize that the tables have turned, and this time, he’s holding Katie down.

Looking down at her, a grin spreads on his face. Way to go. That’ll teach you to put ice down my shirt.

He knows better than to stay in this position, and his face reddens slightly, but looking into Katie’s eyes, it’s hard to move. Instead, he shifts a hand to tuck some hair behind her ear. One minute life is the way it is, and the very next, you’ve turned my world completely upside down all over again. How do you do it so quickly?

“Gah!” Reese groans in frustration, finally just shutting down the whole computer. “Scott, why did you have to leave?”

For a moment, grief overtakes him until he can shake it off again. Heaving a sigh, he stands up from Scott’s old desk. Hal had cleaned last night…it was ready for Dalton to come today.

Reese stops and sees that Scott’s nameplate is still on the door. Just staring at it for a moment, he finally reaches up to slide it out of the holder.

Payback

*Wes returns the kiss to Cindy and than goes to take a sip of his coffee. He had seen Katie and Jason this morning and it braught a smile and warm feeling to his heart. He new it was innocent, and he new they both had been having a hard time. To see them together, at peace with smiles on there face it was nice.*

"I hope they do too. The both need this, eachother, he happyness. Not to mention they look cute together. I think this time around, they will be ok."

*Wes gves a smile*

*Katie's eyes fly open as she goes flying off the couch with a loud thump. Just laying on the ground for a long moment Katie strairs up dazed from being half asleep. Remember where she was and who just pushed herout of bed Katie looks over to Jason sitting up and shakes her head.

Not saying anything Katie stands and heads to the kitchen smiling. Giving a small wave to Cindy and Wes she goes to the fridge and open it up pulling a few ice cubes out. Heading back out of the kitchen and to the coutch once again Katie can't help the grin the cross her face. Jumping on Jason while he is on his back Katie holds him down and quickly sticks the ice cubes down his shirt before laughing....

Payback, Thats for pushing me out of bed when I am half awake.

Katie's emotions are laced with laughs, and happyness as she cant help but chuckle.*

Floor

Con shakes his head, lost in thought. "I don't know... I just don't know. Reese said they've got Bret driving the getaway car on film...he said there's no doubt that it's Bret and Bret's car."

He's quiet for several moments before looking down. "Bret did seem a little uptight the last time I saw him, and he mentioned some old buddies..." He stops and looks up to Jamie. "I didn't tell Reese that. I should have but... I don't know...I should probably call him back tomorrow."

Con wanders to a kitchen chair to sit down, still solemn. "Bret does have a record...he got in trouble with this one before. Not many people know about it... he was able to keep it relatively quiet... quiet enough that I'm not even sure Titan Inc. knew about it when they hired him. But would he do it again?" He shrugs lamely. "I don't know...I wouldn't have guessed so, but... people do crazy things sometimes."

Jason gives a grunt as Katie lands on his stomach. As if you didn't enjoy it.

"Come here." Grabbing Katie's arms, he pulls her down so she's resting on his chest, within reach to give her a kiss. As the movie starts though, he turns onto his side, bringing Katie in front of him to the edge of the couch, where he can wrap an arm around her and just see over her head to the television. "Now hush so we can enjoy the show."

...Two o'clock. Cindy pads down the hallway, curious at the feeling no one was in the guestroom or Jason's room. Glancing into the living room, a smile spreads on her face. The television was still on, though the movie was long over. Jason and Katie were sound asleep on the couch, Jason with his arm still around her. Quietly, Cindy moves to take the light blanket off the chair, then spreads it over the two on the couch.

It's just enough movement for Jason to wake, and he gives a start, realizing where he is, and that his mother was standing there, and perhaps wasn't pleased about the scene. She lays a hand on his shoulder though, shaking her head and putting a finger to her lips. She thought nothing about this, her eyes telling her son that he was fine. Ensuring they stayed, Cindy retreats, going back to bed.

Jason settles his head back into the throw pillow, warm and comfortable. Within seconds, he's asleep again...

Cindy leans over Wes' shoulder at the kitchen table to hand him a cup of coffee, along with giving him a kiss. "Morning." She smiles before returning to the stove where she was preparing breakfast. "Did you notice who was asleep on the couch?" Her tone is kept quiet, a slight smile on her lips as she turns to see her husband. "I hope they make it this time."

The subtle noises in the house finally reach Jason's ears and he manages to get his eyes open, needing just a moment to remember where he was. Feeling Katie in his arms, everything comes back to him quickly. What time was it? Late enough for the sun to be shining in the windows...late enough that he could hear his mom's muffled voice in the kitchen as the smell of breakfast just started to waft through the house.

Though wishing he could just sleep in, Jason knew he couldn't. First, his mom and Wes were up, and second, he at least needed to get back to Texas. He wan't sure if Katie would leave with him today or not, but Reese would already be on the warpath once he realized Jason was gone for today.

Mischief entering his mind, Jason gives Katie a light shake. "Hey, hero of mine...time to get up." Not even giving her enough time to respond, he sighs. "Okay...if you're not going to wake up..."

Giving a slight shove, he sends Katie sliding off the couch and onto the floor. Rolling onto his back, he simply stretches and yawns, trying to wake up his brain.

IronMan

*Wes hangs his head for a moment as Cindy yells at him through a grin was still on his lips. Looking up just a little he whispers jokingly.*

"You can beat him up for me for this Katie."

*Katie gives a little wave to Wes as she hangs upside down on Jason's back.*

*Giving a small giggle to his wife he stands and takes her in an embrace as she takes his arm.*

"Yes dear I will leave the kids alone. Night Guys."

*Was gives a little wave as he disapears down the hall.*

*Katie can't help but laugh as Jason plops he on the coutch. Stairing at the movies for a long moment Katie scans.*

"How about Iron Man."

*Standing back up Katie puts it into the DVD played and starts the movie before walking back over to the coutch to sit down. Moving up just a little bit Katie sits and ends up landing lightly on Jason's stomach. Smiling down at him she chides.*

"Thats for swinning me over your shoulder,"

*Giving a small laugh Katie pretends she is snuaggling in*

*Jamie looks up at Con and he leans aganst the counter a sad look on her face. Bret involved in a bank robbery.*

"Con are they sure its Bret? I mean...would he do that? He seemed like he was doing so well with Charlotte and really happy."

*Jamie lets out a sigh as she continues to wash the dinner dishes as Con talks. It was just so hard to believe Bret would do this. He really had seemed like he was doing good.*

Age

“Ahh!” Though yelping, Jason can’t help but laugh as Wes drags him around, then puts him down on the floor. He groans a little, looking up at his stepfather panting. “Alright, alright, you’re not old!”

He accepts Wes’ hand up, just in time to throw a look at Katie for her comment. “Left out?” He blinks and looks to Wes. “She’s feeling left out. That’s not good.”

Before anyone can stop him, Jason steps closer to Katie, bending down and picking her up to sling over his shoulder, holding her legs in front of him and spinning her around.

“What on earth…” Cindy comes back into the living room, her eyes wide.

Jason comes to an immediate halt, almost running Katie’s head into the wall, looking at his mother as his face reddens. But she’s not looking at him.

Instead, Cindy has her hands on her hips and is looking at her husband. “Wes! I don’t care how young you are, we have someone even younger in the other room, trying to sleep!”

Jason stifles a laugh as Wes takes the blame for everything. “Easy, mom…I think it was my fault.”

Cindy quirks an eyebrow and throws her son a look, giving him a once over, seeing his hold on Katie. “I thought you were a little beyond roughhousing.”

“Me?” Jason twists around and down, trying to see Katie’s face. “I think…uh…mm…”

“That’s what I thought.” Cindy comes over behind Jason to look upside down at Katie. “If he causes you trouble, come knock on my door. He wouldn’t want his mommy to have to come spank him.”

Jason’s eyes widen. “That is so not fair.”

“Night, hunny.” Cindy gives his hand a pat, accompanied by a knowing grin. Then turning to her husband, she takes his arm. “And you…are coming with me so you can quit causing trauma to the living room.”

Jason waves at them both. “G’night!” Heaving a sigh, he just stands for a moment, as if having forgotten about his armful. “Oh yeah…” Turning around, he walks back to the couch, dumping Katie onto the cushions. “Incoming. Watch your head.”

Barely giving her enough time to move, he flops down, faking carelessness, though he knows exactly where Katie is. Stretching out on his side to face the television, he pulls a throw pillow under his head and grabs the remote from the floor, letting Katie find her own position. “Okay, Hero, whadya have?”

Reese thinks for a moment, and shakes his head. “I’m not sure…Bret isn’t home… but if he thinks he’s being tailed, he won’t come back. I think we should lay low and let him come back like everything is fine. Don’t call Charlotte… in case they’re together, so as not to tip off Bret. We wait at least another day or so… then if he doesn’t show up, we’ll start after him.”

Heaving another sigh, Reese gathers up his things. “Though there is one person I might call. In the meantime… just sit tight. See if your sister is home – if she is, don’t say anything about this. If she isn’t…then we can assume they’re together.”

He gives a short nod. “I guess…that’s it. Thanks, Angelica.”

Leaving her office, he already goes for his cell phone.

“What?” Con paces the living room, hearing Jamie making supper in the kitchen. “Yeah… we’re friends. Right. From Titan. But how could…” He pauses, frowning. “Yeah, I knew about his record. He told me once. But he wouldn’t do that again. I… I don’t know about the picture, but it couldn’t have been. It just…”

He stops, realizing that Reese is not looking for opinions. “I’m sorry, no. I haven’t seen him in about a week or so. Last time I did, he was same as always…I didn’t think anything was wrong. He talked about Charlotte…that was it. No… yeah, if I see him I let you know. Alright. Yeah. Bye.”

Hanging up the cordless phone, Con just stops and thinks for several moments, shaking his head, then going to the kitchen. Leaning back against the counter, he purses his lips in solemn thought. “There was as bank robbery today in town… Reese is on the case. Says Bret Parker was involved.”

Three days ago

*Hearing Jason's comment Wes walks slowly behind him and though Jason is taller Wes still has long arms and is strong from being in the army. Putting Jason in a headlock Wes pulls him around the living room for a second.*

"Old...you think I'm OLD. I'll show you old."

*In one quick movment Wes brings Jason to the ground gently as to not hurt him. Standing over top of him he laughs, and offers a hand up again to Jason.*

"Now, if I was old could I do that?"

*Wes can't help the smile on his face as the enjoyment dances in his eyes.*

*Katie can't help the laughter that ring from her mouth as she watches Wes and Jason. It was good to see them getting along. Wes might not be Jason's dad but it was still good to see that they interacted ok.*

"You know I am feeling left out here."

*Katie shakes her head and continues to watch. Once the horse play is over Katie looks to Jason and smiles.*

"A movie sounds good."

*Looking down at the picture Angelica's eyes grow a little bit wider as she looks back up at Reese. A millions things ran through her mind. Bret seemed nice enough but anyone could wair a mask and now, was her sister in danger is well.*

"I havn't seen Charlotte in 3 days or so do you think...."

*Angelica's voice trails off as she grabs her phone and calls Charlotte work.*

"Hello...this is Angelica Lockheart, my sister Charlotte works there and I was wondering if she was in today."

"Nope we have it written down that she called off three days ago. She told us she had something important to take care of and would be back in a few days."

"Ok thank you."

*Hanging up the phone Angelica shakes her head.*

"They said she called off a few days ago. What now?"

Movie?

Cindy nods. “Sure. You just make yourself at home. And if you need any spare clothes, or anything, you just let me know.”

She waits for a few more moments, then finally relents, entering the living room. “Hey, hun.” She reaches down to run a finger through Jason’s hair. “Wake up, Jase.”

“Mm.” Jason squirms a little and forces his eyes open. “Mm-hmm.”

Cindy chuckles and moves to pick up Kaylee. “Better get up before you fall too much more asleep, or you'll never get into bed." She tucks the baby up by her shoulder and makes her way from the living room, nodding to Wes on her way.

Jason rubs his hands over his face and stretches out tall, yawning. "Okay...guess I was tired." Noticing Katie in the doorway, he gives her a sheepish grin. "Some rescuer I am. You're still up working, and I'm the one that conks out."

Cocking his head, his eyes twinkle with mischief. "So you up for a movie while the old folks go to bed, or are you conking out now too?"

Reese shrugs, fingering the folder in his hand. "Oh...well... " He sighs and steps into Angelica's office, setting the folder down on the desk. Opening it up, he reveals pictures from outside security cameras at the bank that was robbed. He points out one of them in particular. "This was digitally enhanced to zoom in... it's... Bret Parker's car, and it's him behind the wheel. It was, um... the getaway car for the robbers. He wasn't home when the police went to his place about an hour ago. I... thought maybe Charlotte might know where he was."

Apology glints in Reese's eyes. He wasn't sure what to think.

Worry

*Charlotte can't help but laugh again as the smile widens on her face. Stopping to think about it for a moment Charlotte can't help but see her sisters face already when she found out.*

"Oh boy are we ever."

*Charlotte shakes her head and takes Bret's hand with her own interlacing her fingers with his.*

"I'll go through anything as long as I am by your side."

*Charlotte looks out the window as the scenes as they pass by. The energy here fed her own, Bret helped her enjoy it and gave her even more. It was a circle Charlotte loved and was so happy to now have. An unexspected happyness that Charlotte wouldnt trade for the world.*

*Coming up behind Cindy Katie can't help but smile at Jason as a warmness washes over her from the picture that was before her. Watching Jason with little Kaylee was the cutest thing. He just needed to see more the confadince he already had. His sister loved him, and he new how to handle her.*

"Well, at least we know someone got through to him."

*Katie cocks her head as she watches for a little while longer. Finally shaking her head she lets out a small sigh.*

"Well, I'd like to see my Aunt and Mick again but I can do that in the morning. I think I would like to sleep here."

*Katie didn't feel to awkward and now that her and Jason were trying over again it made things a little easyer too.*

"Thank you Cindy for everything is means alot."

*Once more Katie looks to the coutch where brother and sister were laying the smile still on her face.*

*Angelica looks up from her desk as Reese enters. Quirking an eyebrow she thinks for a moment.*

"Well, I know they have been spending alot of time together I hardly ever see her at home anymore between working and spending all her free time with him. Other than that I am not sure what they do or anything. Why whats wrong? Do you think he had something to do with robbery?"

*Angelica has a bit of worry cross her face. She helped Bret out once and he seemed nice but other than that no one new anything alse about him.*

Soft spot

“Aw, thanks.” Bret smirks at Charlotte, scanning the street for the next fast food joint. “Then…we go to that beach you saw and eat in the car since I’m not in the mood to get cold. And if I feel adventurous, we’ll go for a walk.”

He stops in traffic to make a turn into a restaurant drive-thru. “And then we’re going to go get a movie or two somewhere to take back to the hotel, and stay up into the wee hours of the morning, just because we can and don’t have any responsibilities tomorrow.”

He grins and throws Charlotte a sidelong glance. “You do realize that we’re both dead.”

Reaching over, he roughs up her hair. “But at least we die together now.”

Jason gives Wes a wry grin. “No ringer…just life in general.” He gives him a subtle nod that they would explain later. Entering the house, he brings Katie in with him, setting down his bag in the entryway.

“What we both could use now is a good shower.”

“Wes, who is…” Cindy comes around the corner, and he face lights up. “Jason! Katie!” She smiles. “Don’t you two look like you’ve had an adventure. What are you doing here?”

Jason chuckles. “Sorry to barge in on you.”

“You don’t have to apologize and you know it,” Cindy chides. “This is home…for both of you. Please say you’re staying for supper.”

“If that’s okay.” Jason gives Katie a glance, then looks back to his mom. “I think we both could use some food after we clean up.”

“And then…?”

Jason shrugs. “I don’t think I want to go back to Nevada tonight, so I’ll sack out here if it’s alright.” He looks to Katie again. “I don’t know where Katie wants to stay.”

Cindy holds her smile. “Well if she wants to head to the ranch, that’s fine, but Katie, you’re more than welcome to stay here too. That’s what the guest room is for.” She opens her mouth to say more, but with all the noise, Kaylee is now awake and starts crying for her own supper. “Ohh, Kaylee.” Cindy rocks her gently. “Come on.” She heads down the hall, calling over her shoulder. “You guys are free to use the shower… Wes, watch the stove, could you?”

Jason grins and shakes his head. He gestures to the hallway, letting Katie use the shower before him. “Ladies first.”

Once everyone is cleaned up and settled, supper is on, and enjoyed in the dining room. Just as warm and cozy as always, the atmosphere is a loving one, and even more at ease than the last time, with less tension between Jason and Katie.

Brief explanations are shared with Wes and Cindy, though too many details are avoided, for privacy’s sake. After the meal is finished, the table is cleared off, and once more Cindy has to see to Kaylee. As everyone settles down for a little while though, Cindy hands the baby off to Jason. “Here, you can hold her for a while.”

No time to refuse even if he wanted, Jason takes the warm bundle, still feeling a little awkward. “Um…ok.”

Cindy smiles, and throws a wink in Katie’s direction, knowing that Jason wasn’t a hundred percent comfortable, but making him do it anyway. “Katie, you wouldn’t mind helping me with the dishes, would you? Then it can be done in half the time.”

The women in the kitchen, Jason wanders to the living room to sit down and chat with Wes for a while. Soon though, it’s quiet, exhaustion from the day taking over.

The dishes finished, Cindy cocks her head and listens, hearing nothing. Giving Katie a curious glance, she goes to the living room to peak in. A smile spreads on her face and she just stands and watches.

Jason was lying on his back on the couch, one foot on the floor, the other stretched out to set on the armrest. One hand was hanging off the couch, the other on top of the sleeping form on his chest.

Kaylee was slowly raised and lowered with every one of Jason’s breaths, her own eyes closed in sleep. Her tiny hand clutched Jason’s shirt in a vice grip, her other tucked under her own head.

Cindy leans against the doorway, her smile in place. She looks to Katie again, her voice in a whisper. “Some tough guy.” She chuckles softly. “At least someone was able to find his soft spot.”

She shakes her head a little and gives a contented sigh. “I hate to wake them up, but I need to put Kaylee down in her crib.” She looks to Katie with question. “Have you decided what you’d like to do tonight?”

“Angelica?” Reese taps lightly on her office door. It was late, and he wanted to go home, and he wanted her to be able to go home too, but he needed to talk to her. “I just got a call in about a bank robbery downtown. The station is full up right now, so they handed me the case to handle. I, um… I was wondering if… well…” He didn’t want to imply the wrong thing, but he just had to ask. “Has Charlotte said anything about where her boyfriend has been lately or anything?”

Saprise

*Wes stands hearing the door setting down the paper work he was looking at for work.*

"Yeah I got it."

*Heading to the door he opens it to find Jason and Katie on the other side. A bit surprised but happy non the less a smile spreads across Wes face.*

"Well look who we have here."

*Noticing the start of the dirt on there cloths Wes grows concerned for a brief moment.*

"Is everything ok? You guys look like you have been through the ringer."

*Stepping aside Wes holds the door open and waves Jason and Katie inside.*

"Come on in your mom will be happy to see you again."

*Charlotte thinks for a moment trying to decide what she wanted to eat. She herself really did not care either but the choice was on her now so she had to choose. Reaching into her pocket and pulling own a coin a smile spreads across her face.*

"Heads we go fast food, we go family style. No elegant we are dressed for it at the moment."

*Tossing the coin in the air and catching it Charlotte slaps it into her other hand. Heads.*

"Looks like fast food. I saw a pretty nice looking beach over there, its not to cold out if you want to take it there to eat. Oh I picked what kind of food now you get to pick the place."

*Charlotte cant help the laugh that escapes her lips.*

Hungry

Though Jason and Katie had been close before, this moment felt new. Both had been through so much... both had grown... both had changed. And though love did exist, it would be nurtured slowly, gently pushing away fear, and bringing two lives together that were meant to be from the very beginning.

Drawing away, Jason looks down into Katie's eyes, a small smile on his face. Right about now, he could stay here forever and not care. But life was moving on around them, and no matter how it felt, time wasn't really standing still.

"I guess if you're ready to go... we should head out. We can make my mom's and Wes' by suppertime... and I bet they'd be thrilled with the company."

Finally letting Katie go, Jason takes her hand to walk her back to her things, and also gathers up his own backpack.

Though the trek is hard going down the slippery slopes, it doesn't seem so bad. Hand-in-hand half the time, few words are spoken, but company is enjoyed. After stopping for a light lunch, Jason gives Mick a quick call that things were fine, then the hike continues.

By the time Jason and Katie reach the bottom, both look as though they've been camping for a week, covered in mud and grass stains. Walking down the path, Jason turns and grins, reaching up to take a twig out of Katie's hair. "Remember I said they'd be thrilled with company? We might scare them away before we can get that far."

The sun is beginning to sink lower in the sky by the time the two reach Wes and Cindy's. Jason isn't sure about Katie, but he's exhausted, not only from the physical workout, but also from the emotional strain of the day. Though knowing he could walk right in if he wanted, to, he knocks anyway.

Cindy is stirring the sizzling hamburger for her casserole on the stove, while holding Kaylee with the other arm, the baby sleeping against her shoulder. Hearing the knock, she turns to Wes at the table. "Would you see who that is, please, hun? I got my hands full."

"Alright, we got fast food, we got family-style diners, we got elegant." Bret looks out the window of his car as he and Charlotte cruise the busy road. "I'm starving, but I don't care where we go, so I leave the option up to you."

Mass Tango

*As Jason's lips touch Kaite's her heart starts to race. The sweetness of the kiss washing over her. Pulling away for a moment Katie looks Jason in the eyes as her own are lite with happyness. Coming in the opisite way for another kiss Katie press her lips to Jason's again as her one arm find his back and rubs gently and her other combs his hair.

Word need not be spoken the emotions of how they both felt were there and thats all they needed. Words spoken would only mess up the bliss they both felt and so...the kiss lingered.*

*Receving Bret's kiss on more time Charlotte can't help the smile that cross her face as the happyness, love and passion flow through her.

Hearing the coin hit the table and having Bret back away she looks him in the eye as he speaks. Kicking her bear foot up to where the coin was Charlotte kicks it off the table so it rolls off and under the coutch. Looking deep into Bret's eyes again she reply.*

"Looks like to me we are staying in to enjoy eachothers company. We can go out later tonight."

*Turning Bret a little bit so he lines up with the coutch Charlotte back up so he lowers on to it. Smiling she sits on his lap wrapping her arms around his neck again Charlotte returns to continue kissing her husband.*

Try again

Jason shakes his head a little as Katie talks, and gives her hand a squeeze. "It's okay...I understand. It's not like I helped you much." He cringes a little. "I know circumstances weren't my fault, but...I could have been there for you more, and I wasn't. So...I guess I'm sorry for that too."

A grin surfaces. "I guess that makes us even."

Jason curls a finger to tap Katie's chin. "We make a fine couple, don't we?" He shakes his head again. "Come on... we can stay up here a while, but... I'd recommend scooting on down below before anything else happens. I might have worried a few others too..."

He offers a look of apology. "Well...maybe just your aunt and Mick."

Jason gets to his feet and offers Katie a hand up as well. Standing near the edge of the cliff, he looks out and puts an arm around Katie's shoulders. It felt right. Finally... it felt right.

Quiet for several moments, he finally turns his head to look down at Katie, a small grin quirking the edge of his mouth. Taking off his hat, he cocks his head, and leans down close to her.

Since I messed up so badly the last time, how about we try this again?

Leaning in closer, his lips brush against hers for just a moment, before he stops and looks her in her eyes again. His eyes glinting, he returns again, letting out the passion he's denied for so long. His fingers gently comb through Katie's hair, the moment too sweet to ruin with words. Only emotions, blissful emotions were given.

Bret takes Charlotte close and swings her around, his eyes shining with the happiness he felt. He couldn't remember a time he'd felt like this... with Charlotte it was just different... and he felt complete.

"Mm... I've got a pocket full of quarters. Personally I'd rather give them to fate than a slot machine."

Grinning, he reaches into his pocket to pull out a coin. "Heads north, tails south. And if it falls under the couch, we just stay here all day and enjoy each other's company."

The coin is tossed, but before it can land, Bret has Charlotte in another kiss, hearing the quarter land on the table. "Rats." His eyes dance. "Guess we have to go."

Reese walks down the hall, opening up Scott's old office. Giving a sigh, he switches on the light. He didn't want to put someone else in here... but he didn't have much of a choice. Life moves on.

Sighing, he goes to sit down behind the computer, and flip it on again. He had to find enough files and information for when the new tech guy came.

Reason

*Katie smiles as Jason pulls away.*

"I'm ok. Well a took a tumble down a moutain and almost fell off a cliff but I'm ok."

*Katie looks down for a moment. She owed Jason an explanation on what happend that much she new.

Trying to gather her thoughts Katie looks back up meeting Jason's eyes.*

"I'm sorry I lift like I did J. I just thought it was for the best. I new I was in a down werd slope and I just didnt want to drag anyone with me."

*Katie lets out a long sigh.*

"I know it was wrong now, I just...I'm wanted to be alone to wallow but I didn't want to be alone. I was so confused it was hard to straten everything out. I'm sorry J, I really am. Thank you for coming for me."

*After the warm meal is eaten and Charlotte has showered she comes back into the room and wraps her arms around Bret not being able to help but grin at the ring she now wore on her finger. Giving him a kiss she finally pulls away.*

"So, how about a little bit of exploring. We have a whole new world out there to flip coins with."

*Charlotte can't help but smile giving a chuckle.*

Ready and willing

Katie's hand to Jason's face sends a shiver down his spine as hope builds. And as he receives her words of acceptance, the hope turns into a blissful relief.

As she embraces him and buries herself against his chest, he wraps his arms around her in a protective hold, not wanting to let go. "Oh Katie..."

A deep sigh doesn't signal disappointment or sorrow, but a simple relief, and the feeling that he knew it wouldn't be easy from here on out. But he was willing.

Jason rests his head against Katie's breathing in her sweet smell as he hugs her gently. There were so many unknowns... but Con was right. Life was about learning as they go.

After a few moments, Jason pulls away, bringing his palm to Katie's face to wipe away any remaining tears. "I thought something was wrong... I couldn't stand not knowing. I wasn't going to come but... I realized that I wasn't just upset because I thought you were hurt... I was upset even more because I missed you... and I realized that I didn't want to let us both keep being lonely... it wasn't fair to either of us. So... I came."

Jason pauses, looking into Katie's eyes once more. "I know it won't be easy for us..." He gives a short laugh. "Nothing ever has been with us, has it?" He shakes his head. "But I'm tired of fighting this thing all the time... No matter what happens... I'm willing to start walking again."

His hands move to tighten around hers. "Are you okay?"

A silent alarm goes off downtown. Guns are waved in the air. Masked men take what they can and run. Sirens can be heard nearing. The culprits jump into their black car and burn rubber, speeding away from the scene. Bystanders stop and stare. Police cruisers screech to a halt in front of the bank. The thieves had escaped.
