Deal

"Oooh, Raspberry." Jen eases down at the kitchen table, and takes a cookie to nibble on until Katie joins her with the tea a few minutes later.

She looks up at her friend, studying Katie's face for a few moments. "Katie..." Her voice is serious, but quiet and gentle. "I just want to let you know that I'm here for you, okay? Whatever it is... no matter the time of day... all you gotta do is pick up the phone and I'm there, okay?"

Reese can't help but raises his eyebrows. He'd known Hope and Scott had become friends, but he didn't know it had gone any further than that. Not that he minded, or that it was any of his business though.

"Well... I don't rightly care what other people say." He shrugs. "Besides... if you're hooked on Scott, then the incident should be isolated and it's not like you're gonna get accused of indecency with anyone else, should you take me up on my request."

He smiles a little. "Tell you what... you come and evaluate our three men... and TJY will provide you with one of the best lawyers to handle your case for you."

Jason had been lost in thought, and he snaps his head up, jolted from his stare by Misty. It takes him a moment to even realize she'd asked him a question.

"Huh? Oh... yeah... yeah, I got time, come on in." He motions her into his office, and to the extra chair. His eyes were a bit tired and he'd been trying to stay awake. His headache was wearing on him, though he was trying to wait it out. "What's up?"

Tea

Trying to give the best smile she can back to Jen Katie just nods before turning to head into the kitchen.

"I'm fine."

Her answer was short but she really didnt want to talk about the day or what had happend. Her mind wasnt taunting her at the moment and she wanted to keep it that way.

Continuing to walk into the kitchen Katie motions for Jen to follow.

"I put out some cookies, and I have some tea around here that I dont think Laura is taking with her let me take a look."

Opening the far cubord Katie looks in to see what tea was there. Moving things around she called over her shoulder.

"We have Lemon Zinner, Mint, Raspberry, and....umm..normal."

Taking in a deep breath Hope looks across the table at Reese. She was nervous though she new really there was no reason to be. She'd always been careful in what she did and how she handled her patients. Even with Scott she was careful, thought she wouldnt change what happend how it did she didnt understand and losing her license would defiantly sting.

Taking the court summons from her bag Hope places them on Reese desk and pushed them twords him.

"I am being investigated for indecent relationship with a pacent. They are talking about Scott. I can defend myself, but I really have no proof that Scott and I didn't get close until after he was released from my care."

Hope lets out a sigh as she continues to look at Reese. She had great confidence in herself but at the same time she was a little worryed. Though God would do what he saw fit, there were many what ifs.

"If they find me guilty I could lose my license, and that would look bad for you guys. I just wanted to know what you would all be getting yourself into."

Giving a soft knock on Jason's door Misty pokes her head in.

"Hey Hotshot got a moment?"

Misty had been needing a break all day and she wanted to give Rick and Jeff some room. She new what had happend this morning with Jason and Katie and new how hard it must be on both of them. Though she was worryed about Katie too she was closer to Jason. Maybe just stoping in to talk to him a little bit would do them both good.

One of those days

"Thanks, Angel. I'll let you know when I receive the package."

Ending the call, Rick hangs up and turns around to see Jeff finally resting quietly. He goes to him to check him over once more. "Still in pain?"

Jeff shakes his head a little numbly. "No... now I'm just... really quite happy..." His gaze swings in Rick's direction. "You gave me something a bit, uh, loaded, there doc?"

Rick grins a little. "You could say that. Just try to rest some more."

"How about playing some basketball?"

"No. Rest."

"Hockey?"

"In the middle of summer?"

Jeff stops and squints one eye. "Er... right. Summer." He shakes his head groggily. "Poker?"

Rick chuckles and shakes his head. "I can't take the time. Rest... that means rest."

"Pushy." Jeff waves him off, but closes his eyes. "I'll sleep then. But wake me up if there's an earthquake."

Rick's eyebrows rise and he almost asks why, but realizes that Jeff had no clue what he was saying. "Right... I'll do that."

Half an hour later, Jen has arrived, giving Katie a smile as she enters the house. "Hey, you." She gives Katie's shoulder a loving scratch. "I hope I'm not being too much of a pain."

She sets down her purse and gives a little sigh. "Just one of those days, I guess." She cocks her head, studying Katie's face. "Looks like its been one of those days for you too."

Reese settles back in his seat after Hope takes a chair across from him. "Alright, I've given you the brief explanation of what my request is about... now I'd like to hear your side of things. Why do you think TJY would suffer if you were to help us?"

Clue

Continuing to hold the phone Katie lets out a small sigh. She really didnt want to be alone, but she didnt really want to be around anyone eather. But it was Jen, maybe she would just let her say for a little bit. Couldnt hurt more than she already was.

"Yeah ok, that should be fine. I'll make us some tea or something. I'll see you in a bit."

Hanging up the phone Kaite pushs off the wall. The pills forgotten on the small table by the door for now. Aiming for the bathroom Katie wanted to at least splash some water on her face before Jen got there. She had to at least look like she was ok.

"Hey Rick its Angel from Texas. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. My daughter had both her babys yesterday and the one is pretty sick. So I have had a lot on my plate."

There was a pause for a moment as Angel gathers her paper work up. After checking on Wendy and Clint this morning along with her grandkids Angel set to work on looking into Jeff's condition. She even went to the lengths of taking a look at the chip that was taken from Jeff.

"I was able to take the chip that we took from Jeff and take a look at it. I remembered that we thought Jeff was having a reaction to the metal it was mad of. As I took a closer look there seemed to be a casing connected to the chip. I ran some test and I did come up with some intresting things but nothing I can be one hundred percent about."

Angel takes in a breath as she places a small casing into a bag.

"I dont have the tools here to dig deeper into what was in this casing or why it was there, but I am going to send it over to you next day mailing along with some of the other information I did find on it. I can almost garinty this is why Jeff was sick to start with."

I promise

"Oh." Disappointment echoed in Jen's response. "Well... I was really hoping for some company... would you mind if I just came over? I don't even care if you sleep the whole time. It's just one of those days where I don't really like being alone at the house and well... I don't want to intrude or anything if you're not feeling well, but would it be okay? I promise you won't even know I'm there."

Thanks

Picking herself up from the floor the tears are still streaked down Katie's face. Though the images and feelings were gone for now she new they would be back. She just wanted everything to go away, nothing felt right and the absence of the emotions left her empty.

Feeling her phone go off Katie forgot she had turned the ringer off. Flipping it open an listing to the voice mail is was nice to hear Jen's voice to know someone out there still cared. Wanting to call back and say yes Katie hesitates. She didn't know when the past would creep on her again and she didnt want to be out when it happened but she didnt want to blow off Jen eather.

Dialing Jen's number Katie waits as she makes her way through the quiet house. It almost scared her how quiet it was. If something happened no one would know, if something went wrong no one would know. Katie hated feeling like this but she didn't know how to stop it.

"Hey Jen, I...got your message. I'm not feeling to good right now so I don't think it would be a good idea to go anywhere. but I wanted to thank you for your offer."

Katie was thankful for Jen's offer it made her fell good. She just wanted her to know that even if her voice was a little shakey it would prove she really wasn't doing to good.

"Maybe later if I am feeling better or something we can get together."

Normal

"How are you feeling?"

Jason looks up quickly from his desk, seeing Rick. "Physically?"

"Yeah."

"Fine. Little headache, but fine."

"And... emotionally?"

Jason thinks a moment. "Normal."

Rick just nods. "Okay. It had been a while so I just wanted to check."

Jason watches him start to leave, but stops him. "Have you checked Katie?"

"She left. I didn't get a chance to talk to her."

"Oh." Jason sighs. "Thanks." Left alone, he just sits quietly for a few moments. Trooper comes over to him, but he doesn't even feel like paying attention to his dog. He was happy, he was sad. He was relieved, he was tense. It didn't make any sense, yet it made a world of sense. He just wished Katie would be on board with him. He knew their connection was important, but... couldn't they survive without it? Couldn't they have a relationship without it? They'd both lived before... they were both human beings. Yes, they had shared something unique and special... something intimate. But if they were really meant to be, couldn't they survive without it? Why couldn't Katie understand what his points were? Couldn't she see that it tore him up inside every time something went wrong? Couldn't she understand that he was doing this for the both of them? Why was she being so stubborn about not being happy with it? He just didn't understand.

And now she'd left work. Jason knew it was because she was upset. Maybe his emotions weren't feeling it, but his gut told him. He wanted to go find her... go to her and try to talk through this and work it out... but he didn't even know where she was, and probably she wouldn't want to talk to him anyway.

Getting Katie's voice mail, Jen sighs a little, but she tries her best to be cheery anyway. "Hey, Katie, it's Jen. I just wondered if you wanted to get out and have some fun or just sit and talk or something. I called TJY and they said you'd left, so I don't know if you're home or not, but I'll just leave you this message. Mike's working and my folks are gone all day so I didn't have anything to do... thought maybe we both could use a friend today. Let me know, I'll be home."

Reese lifts his eyebrows a little, wondering what kind of trouble Hope could possibly be in. "I'd love to sit and talk. I don't know when you're free, but I'm open all day if you'd like to come in, or I can meet you somewhere."

You should know

Going back to her desk Katie sits down with a huf leaning her head down on her desk before siting up again and pulling some papers to her. She was going to try and keep her mind busy. Maybe if she did when the drug kicked in she would be ok.

The time ticks by and Katie works as the drug slowly takes its affects. Katie's eyes start to go fuzzy as she closes them trying to focus again her head starting to throb. Knowing what was coming Katie wanted to stand but couldnt. She new she was at TJY but her head spun, smells, sounds it all came crashing back.

Giving a little shake Katie can feel the tears that formed in her eyes again. She wanted to cry she wanted to scream again...she just wanted to get away. Closing her eyes Katie clears the memories thought she knows they are still knocking on the door. She had to get out of here, go home, yes...home.

Gathering her things together Katie dosnt let anyone know she is going. No one could see her like this. She was upset and hurting for more than one reason and her mind was being tourchered as the silence took over. Katie didnt want to have to explain she just wanted to get away. Jason wouldnt understand so what would be the point of telling him.

Exiting TJY Katie takes in a deep breath of air seeing if it would help and it did just a little. Maybe at least it would help so she could get home in one peace.

Finally making it home Katie enters the house and just leans aganst the door. Figuring Thirteen and Ryder were probley on there way to TJY she didnt worry about it. Seeing her wallet and the bottle of pills on the little table Katie just leans her head back. Her mind was her own, yet at the same time it wasnt. Katie didnt know what to do.

Answering the phone and hearing Reese request Hope thinks for a long moment as the papers in front of her she read. They were from a lawyer and summoned her to court. She hadent exspected this to happen but it did and though she didnt know how or what was going to happen she still wanted to help Reese. Though it takes a moment to reply to Reese when Hope finally does her voice was a little differnt this time around.

"Yes of course I would love to do that for the Elite. Though I should come in and talk to you. Some problems I guess you could say have come up and before I do anything for you I think you should know. If things go badly for me, I dont want it to bring you guys down too. So if we could set up a time to talk before the end of next week that would be great."

Letting out a tiny sigh and holding the letter still Hope cant help but read the same line over and over again. She was being investigated and put before the court for an indecent relationship with a pashent. Only one person came to mind though she still was a big confused. She never started getting closer to Scott untill after he wasn't a pashent anymore. Who and why would someone do this? It confused her but it was happening...and she could now lose everything.

Willing?

Watching Katie leave, Jason sighs a little. He left her question unanswered. He just really didn't understand.

Jeff folds his arms, looking at Jason with calmness. "Happy now?"

Jason snaps his head up, wondering at Jeff's tone, but he couldn't find sarcasm in it. "It's not about being happy... it's about what's best."

"And you think this is the right way?"

"If I didn't, would I be here?" Jason shakes his head and aims for the door. "I got work to do."

Jeff watches him leave, shaking his head. Turning to the bed, he takes a couple steps, then doubles over as a sudden and severe pain shoots through his gut.

Rick is immediately by his side. "Whoa, you okay?"

"Mm-hmm...." Jeff mumble, staggering to the bed. "I'd be even better if you took the knife out of my stomach."

Rick sighs and pats his shoulder. "Let me give you something for that." He only hoped Angel would find something.... he had found nothing, and Jeff was simply left to suffer.

It only takes half an hour. Rick had done a good job at perfecting the right formula, and even Jason is surprised. Thirty minutes and it was as if a soundproof veil had descended. It wasn't a torment like before, filled with pain and worry, but it was just a stillness... a deafening quiet.

Leaning back in his desk chair, he takes a moment to reorganize his thoughts. He had a bit of a headache, but otherwise, so far there were no side effects.

Ryder returns Thirteen's kiss, giving her a smile. "Alright. Showers than breakfast. First one to the bathroom gets the shower first." Springing over the couch, he dashes towards the hallway.

"Yes, hi, Hope, this is Reese over at TJY..." He twirls the phone cord around his finger as he talks. "I've been meaning to call you but have just been so swamped. I actually was wondering if you'd be willing to do something for the Elite. See... we have several men who have been in the Agency." He thinks of Alec, Gage and Phinox. "We're having the same trouble figuring out what to do with him as we are with Scott. It's quite a dilemma. I just spoke with Chief Brown this morning, and we've decided to have the men professionally evaluated. In other words... we want someone's advice as to their mental state, and whether or not they would be considered a threat. So many times, Agency people have been pulled in without knowing any better, that we hate to just throw them behind bars. But we need some way of figuring this out and deciding what is the right choice for them."

He takes a deep breath at the end of his spiel. "So, what I'm asking, is if you'd be willing to come by TJY sometime and speak with these men. Just study them and write up an evaluation for them that will help us decide what to do next."

Will you

Entering the infirmary and take the bottle that Rick had handed her Katie's stomach did flip flops as she broke out in a sweat. She could feel her hands get clamy as her hands shook slightly from the intense amount of emotions.

No smile formed on Katie's face as she looked up at Jason. Her eye's formed tears and maybe the last call for Jason not to do this or maybe even for help. She didnt want to do this, she didnt want the memories to come. Hearing Jason's I love you Katie, cocks her head a little.

Now will you marry me?

Looking away from Jason Katie choaks on her own tears as she can hear Jason open the bottle and put it into his hand. Ass Jason drinks the water Katie just stands there. It was really happening, she really was going to be alone again with her own mind. Her own, scared torched mind.

slowly opening her own bottle Katie put the pill into her hand and for a long few moments just looks at it not taking it right away. Looking up at Rick her eyes were glazed and looked darker now. Finally putting the pill in her mouth Katie takes the water and swallows the pill. Closing her eyes she just stands there not saying anything but trying to maintain herself.

Turning to Jeff Katie returns the squeeze on his hand.

"Thanks for being there for me."

Than turning to Jason Katie gives a nod. It was done, and that was it. Throwing the bottle into her pocket Katie heads for the door. She didnt know what else to say if there really was anything at all.

Thirteen cant help the giggle as she sits up on the couch.

"Something to eat sounds good. I think my stomach is talking again."

Feeling Ryder's kiss makes Thirteen smile even more. Sitting up she leans into Ryder a little more giving him a kiss on the lips before pulling away again. Standing to give a streach.

"Yeah I'll tag along again. Though I think Reese should give you the day off."

Thirteen throws Ryder a wink.

Making sure

Jeff accepts Katie's arm and walks slowly next to her. It seemed an odd combination... he had wanted to help her, but she was helping him. But perhaps it wasn't so strange after all.

Arriving at the infirmary, he gives her hand a little squeeze. He had absolutely no idea how she felt, but he knew she was hurting, and that was enough for him to offer what comfort he could.

Jason looks up as Katie enters, catching her eye. He tries to give her a smile... he wasn't upset, he wasn't mad... least of all with her.

"Alright, you two." Rick takes the bottles from the counter. He eyes Katie, knowing good and well that she wasn't happy about this. He didn't mean to make this happen... he felt a little stuck at the moment and almost wished he hadn't figured out a formula. He'd figured it out for other reasons, not knowing Jason would really want this. But he wouldn't stand in the way. It was between the two of them now.

"Yours..." He hands a bottle to Jason. "And yours." He hands the other to Katie. "You should take one a day. The effects will last about twenty-six hours, so you have a couple hours difference in there to play with. But any time you suddenly feel symptoms that it has worn off, take one immediately or it'll get a lot worse. Jason, you know this."

Jason nods. He knew all too well.

Rick continues. "You can adjust your own schedules accordingly, but don't let much time lapse in between or else you'll be making the other one of you miserable. You should have enough there for a month, which means when you're close to getting out, I'll have more for you." He shrugs lamely. "I guess that's it. Initially, you shouldn't feel much shock. Your connection should dissolve gradually since you'll both be coming down from it at the same time. But if you do feel too much discomfort, come see me."

Jason looks at the bottle in his hand, then to Katie.

I love you, Hero. This doesn't change that.

Popping the lid on the bottle, he deposits one of the small gray pills in his palm. Something so small... and it would take away so many problems. Without delaying it any longer, he pops it in his mouth, taking the cup of water Rick offers him.

Rick looks to Katie, making sure she is going to do the same.

Ryder laughs and ruffles Thirteen's hair. "You goof. Feels nice, doesn't it? Maybe now you'll actually sleep on something softer than the floor. Of course... Laura's coming for the rest of her stuff today, then you'll have a real bed."

Yawning again, he shakes his head. "I suppose I better head in to work." He leans down and plants a kiss on her forehead. Staying bent over her face, he smiles. "After a quick breakfast, you coming with me?"

Shortly

Giving a smile again to Jeff Katie gives a small nod. She was happy she had someone so close to her.

"Thanks Uncle Jeff. I'd like that."

Getting Jason's emotions Katie lets out a sigh. Now that he needed something he wanted to use the emotions.

I'll be there shortly.

Letting out another sigh Katie looks to Jeff and gives a nod. They might as well get this over with. It was going to happen no matter how much stalling happend.

"Well I am being summoned for the last time. I guess we should head that way."

Holding out her arm Katie offered it to Jeff to help him walk. Keeping her walk slow for him Katie didnt mind she wasn't in any hurry.

Rubbing her eyes and streching Thirteen rolls onto her back feeling the warmth of Ryder's legs under her. Finally opening her eyes she squints a little before looking up at Ryder her eyes open all the way. A smile forms on her face her eyes locking with Ryders.

"Morning, I...dont think I minded sleeping in. You relize this is the first time I slept on the couch?"

Overslept

Jeff lets Katie back away and one would think he would take the cue and leave, but he didn't. "Hey... this is me you're talking to."

He reaches out and turns her back around to face him. "Does it look like I have anything else to worry about right now?" He gestures to himself. "This is nothing. Let me be here for you, kiddo. Please?"

Katie...
The emotions were cautious... hesitant... mild.
Rick and I are waiting...

Ryder gives a little groan as he stretches and yawns on the couch. For a moment, he didn't remember where he was and why he wasn't in his bed. Then feeling the weight of Thirteen's head, he remembers, and avoids tossing her about.

"Hey you," he speaks quietly. He runs a hand sleepily through her hair. "I think we overslept."

I have to

Looking up from her cubicle Katie cant help the small smile that formed on her face. It was good to see him, and it was nice to know he was up and walking.

"Uncle Jeff, its good to see you up and around."

Standing Katie reaches out and gives Jeff a loving hug. She missed her uncle and not being at the ranch. It wasnt often she was hit with the waves but they came now and than.

Backing up a few steps again Katie has to break her gaze from Jeff as he mentions Jason being in with Rick. She new it would come no matter how much she didn't want it to. Her eyes darken again as she thinks about what was to take place today. She could feel her emotions starting to bounce again.

"Uncle Jeff, I don't want to do this but I have to because if I don't Jason will just keep hounding me like he did when he first told me, and than yesterday at the concert. I dont have a choose in this and its not fair. I love him, and I dont want him to be angry with me I just...its not fair."

Letting out a sigh again Katie moves a little and trys to give a half smile to Jeff.

"You have enough to worry about Uncle Jeff you don't need to worry about me too. Thank you though."

Spice

Jason just nods, the awkward tension very present between them again. He didn't want it to be this way. He just thought that his decision was best. He didn't like the stress that their connection brought. He didn't like that it dictated their actions all the time. He didn't think it was fair that they had little privacy unless consciously shutting part of themselves off. And he didn't think it was far to Katie, always feeling his pain. He knew she needed the raw emotions and that she said she didn't mind because of that but... he hated seeing her hurt. Yet this was hurting her too.

He can feel a tension in the emotions and knows that she's upset. But he'd been expecting a fight, and none came. Maybe he should be grateful.

"Okay..." He stands for a moment, used to giving her a goodnight kiss. But tonight he feared he'd be met with a cold embrace, so he refrains. "Goodnight. I'll... see you in the morning then."

Turning, he heads back to his truck and soon is driving away...

"How's she feel about it?"

"She hates it."

"Mmm." Rick looks at his task at the infirmary counter as he prepares two bottles of pills and speaks to Jason. It was mid-morning and their discussion wasn't surprising. "But she's willing?"

"I guess." Jason shrugs. "I didn't want to force her, I mean... if she refused, I wouldn't take anything because that would be stupid. But she's not happy... she's just... doing it because of me, I guess."

"You still sure you want to do it?"

"Yeah."

Another voice interrupts the conversation. "I wouldn't like to feel alone either."

Jason spins around to look at Jeff, who he thought had been asleep. "But she's not alone. It's not like we're leaving each other or something."

Jeff winces a little as his head throbs, and he pulls himself up in bed so he can sit up. "I won't bother trying to explain what you can't understand yet." He motions to Rick. "Help me up and dressed, will you?"

Rick joins him. "You've been asleep since yesterday morning. How do you feel?"

"Better... like I'm gonna throw up or fall off this merry-go-round I'm on, but better...I think."

Rick grins a little. "How about you just stay right here?"

"No I want to get up and walk around."

Rick gives in. Jeff was safe around here, and he'd allow him to walk since his fever had broken. "Alright. Come on."

Jason waits nearby as Jeff is able to get up and get dressed with few words. Once alone with Rick again, he looks at the bottles on the counter. "Those it?"

"Yeah. It should take one pill a day. I'll explain more though when Katie's with you."

Jeff ambles slowly down the hallway, not familiar with these surroundings, but finding his way okay. He finds the main floor and stops at the corner of a cubicle until a wave of dizziness stops and his stomach settles enough for him to walk again. He looked pale and thin but unfortunately, it was a familiar feeling.

Finally he finds Katie's cubicle. Slipping in, his hand finds her shoulder. "Hey, kiddo," he greets quietly. His fingers give her a little loving squeeze. He would have come just to say good morning, but there was too much else going on to ignore the facts.

"Jason's in the infirmary with Rick..." He knew that Katie would understand what this meant. "I'll be with you... if you want."

"What? When?"

"Soon."

"How soon?" Carson throws up his arms, his voice raising in the back of the kitchen at Mom and Pop's.

Gunner shakes his head. "Don't know. All I know is the hearing will be soon. I'd say no later than next week. Have you found anything yet?"

"No." Carson growls in frustration. His mind was on too many things. He needed more time to dig things up about Scott, but he was stuck here during the day, all day.

"Not even with the password?"

"No. It got me in deeper but... so far there's nothing."

Gunner leans back against the wall and gives a friendly wave to Aerith as she passes by. "You think it's really there?"

"Facts to prove his innocence? There has to be."

"But what if there's not?"

"There has to be," Carson repeats. He furrows his brow. "Where is Scott anyway? Aren't you supposed to be with him at all times?"

"Shhh..." Gunner puts a finger to his lips. "He promised not to go anywhere so he's still at his house."

Carson rolls his eyes. "Reese would have your head."

Gunner grins. "All the more reason to do it. Spices things up a little, ya know?"

Flame

Getting home and inside Katie can feel Jason was going to say something. If it wasn't for the emotions Katie could tell by Jason's body language.

Hearing Jason words Katie's heart sinks to the bottom pits of her stomach. Jason was bring it up again they was not way around it. He didnt understand and everything she had said early in the day was not heart.

Feeling a flame inside her almost snuffed out, it was like she went cold. There was no point in fighting anymore, and words spoken about it would not be heard. Looking at Jason in the eye Katie new he would be able to tell but her hands where tied and there was nothing she could do.

Ok, tomorrow than. I'll probably be to work a little later.

Holding Chase tight in her arms Wendy looks down on him with a smile. She had so much term oil going on inside of her but yet holding her Son she was happy yet her heart held heavy.

To know about losing a child was a great burden. Not to care for them but because you couldnt do anything to save them. It was hard, it was hard but she could only hope that God would give them peace.

"Yeah, I'd like that I dont think I want to be alone tonight anyways."

Stiring slightly as she slept on the couch Thirteen though she heard voices. Lifting her head just a little and seeing the two figures at the door Thirteen could make out Jason and Katie.

Feeling as ease again Thirteen looks to Ryder and gives a small smile as she watch him sleep for a long moment. Than returning her head to his lap Thirteen snuggled in to sleep some more.

Traitor

Jason tries to smile at Katie, simply moving on from the little incident. This all felt just... strange. He shakes it off and moves on. He and Katie would have to work their problems out elsewhere.

He nods and moves to help her with the tables, finishing up just as the others arrive.

Carson watches from the kitchen, his eyes narrowing slightly. Something seemed off. He wasn't sure what it was, but Katie and Jason didn't seem very happy tonight... not only just for a normal night, but a concert night too. They were usually so hyped up after a concert. He shrugs it off and continues with the pizza. It wasn't any of his business.

After the others get there, a bit of teasing ensues, and the atmosphere lightens. Once Rocky joins them, things get a bit louder and he eventually convinces Carson and Dani to join in too.

By the time the evening is coming to a close, everyone is tired, but happy and ready to part. Carson and Dani are left to close up Mom and Pops, Phil heads home, Rocky goes to catch the end of a friend's late party, Mike takes Jen home and Jason heads across town with Katie.

Again the ride is quiet. Getting to the house, Jason performs the norm, and gets out to walk Katie inside. Once just inside the door, he can see into the living room where it looked like Thirteen and Ryder were sacked out on the couch, so he tries not to speak too loudly. But he can't wait.

Looking down at Katie, he wanted to put his arms around her, but after tonight, he just wasn't sure that was the right move to make. "Listen, Katie, I..." He stops, then knows he just has to say it. "Tomorrow we need to go see Rick. He, um, talked to me today and... he's got the antidote made up." He looks into Katie's eyes as if begging her not to make him feel like a traitor.

Clint doesn't say much. He wasn't sure what more he could say. All he can do is nod.

It doesn't take much effort to switch the two tiny bundles. The babies were small, having shared everything until now. Clint is standing, and he gazes down into his daughter's eyes. Her finger's don't have much strength, but they curl around his one finger that dwarfs her hand. Tears wanted to pool in his eyes, but he wills them back. They'd come so far... made so many mistakes... He knew God didn't punish people like this, but he couldn't help that a part of him felt maybe a little like that. Yes, Chase was healthy but... no life was of more value than another. If asked a month ago, Clint might have said he really didn't want to be a father. But from the moment he'd seen his children... telling his heart not to love them instantly would have been like telling his heart to stop beating altogether.

They could put Cecilia in the hospital, but Clint trusted Angel's diagnosis. She knew what she was talking about, and he trusted that. This was better than seeing their baby hooked up with tubes and wires... at least here they could hold her and spend time with her in peace.

He rocks Cecilia softly, watching her sleepy eyes drift closed. She would have been so very loved here... but even so, heaven was a much more beautiful place where God's love would envelop her.

His gaze moves to Wendy. "I'll stay in here tonight with you... if you don't mind."

Carson stares at his computer screen, typing and growing more frustrated. His new information had to work. It just had to. He was exhausted from the late night at the restaurant, and he'd had to tell Misty he'd see her tomorrow instead, because he needed to be at TJY for a couple hours. Sitting in the dim cubicle, he didn't know who else was there working late, but at this point it really didn't matter. Time was of the essence. He'd heard over the grapevine that a date was being set up for Scott's hearing. If Carson didn't find something, Scott was looking at a job termination if not worse.

Feeling

Feeling Jason come close his words to her made her forget the pain just a little. As Jason touches her head and feeds her the good emotions Katie couldnt help the sigh of releaf she let out. It felt good, it calmed her down and it made all the hurt go away.

Looking up at Jason Katie's eyes lock with his. She hated fight with him and being made she hated the feeling of being divided. Trying to admit her own emotions of good Katie does what she can.

"Thank you J."

Just letting him rub her hand for a few moments longer Katie finally calms down her own emotions. Giving Jason a smile Katie stands and nods they should probley finish putting the tables together.

"Alright I think I am ok now. Lets finish with these tables. So we dont get harassed on not being prepared."

Giving a quick nod Angel new there was nothing else
she could do. Clint and Wendy needed there time alone with there babys right now, and though things were ment to be all ohhh and ahhhs they would have to wait. They deserved this time for as long as they could.

Exiting the infermary Angel takes in a deep breath as a small tear ran down her cheek as her silent prayers go up to heaven for her family. Stepping off the pourch Angel makes her way over to the dinning hall where she new everyone would be.

Looking down at the baby Wendy gentily ran her hand over the baby's soft face as she gurgled. Tears fill her eyes and run down her face. Her tiny eyes already held such a shine and wonder for what was around her. Wendy had started to already get attached to both her babys and now soon she would have to say good bye to one.Happyness was there, but the pain remained of knowing she would lose something so dear.

Feeling Clint's on her shoulder she was happy to have him near for comfort though she new he would need some too.

Looking up at him Wendy tryed to give the best smile she could even though she hurt so much on the inside.

"Would you like to hold her? She has your smile..."

Wendy's voice quivered a little as she talked trying to fight controll of her emotions. She wanted to scream, she wanted to cry but nothing would come. Her baby so small and so fragile and she was powerless to help her.

Nerves

Ryder wasn't quite expecting Thirteen to make herself comfortable in his arms, but he doesn't mind. He rather likes it.

Scooting back a little so he can lean back, he lets Thirteen's head sink down into his lap, and puts his feet up on the coffee table. The kitchen light was still on and the dishes weren't quite done from supper. But if he fell asleep here, he didn't care.

One hand absentmindedly rakes through Thirteen's hair, soothing the tension away. A small smile comes to his lips. "I like it too."

His mind lingers on her statement about finding her father. He opens his mouth to say something, but then seems to think better of it. He'd made a promise. Sighing deeply, he leans his head back and closes his eyes, his fingers still combing her hair.

Jason is just turning to help Katie when he gives a jump as if he'd been shocked. It wasn't painful, but it was enough to have caused a disruption in the flow of emotions so that he felt it.

Spinning around he sees Katie, surprised at the curse and at her reaction to the pain. It's automatic for him to go to her, no matter what they'd argued about earlier.

Going to her chair, he kneels down in front of her, prying her hand loose so he can see. "You just pinched it good." He rubs it gently, knowing that the nerves were still quite sensitive. Touching her hand, he consciously emits gentler emotions than he had earlier, knowing that his touch would amplify them. There was a whole lot going unsaid between them though, and even though several months ago this would bring them closer, tonight it's just a method to calm nerves.

With every new word coming from Angel, Clint's gut tightens just a little bit more. He rocks in the easy chair, holding Chase a little closer. The same feeling like when he'd seen Cecilia so lifeless returns and he can feel himself fighting emotions.

Finding out about their baby's heart condition, Clint doesn't even know what to say. His eyes meet his wife's and all he can do is muster up the most encouraging gaze he can. Yes, they would still have Chase. But it was still heart-wrenching. He'd already fallen in love with both of his children.

His eyes fall to Cecilia and how small and delicate she was. He wanted to cry, but no tears came. He wanted to sit and hold her too, but he was holding Chase. He wanted to hold Wendy, but they were both caring for the babies. What else was there to do?

"Thank you." It seemed trite, but he thanked Angel anyway. "I... know you've done all you can. No one can ask more than that. You're right... we've been blessed with a healthy baby boy... and for as long as we have Cecilia... we'll always remember it."

One hand reaches over to squeeze Wendy's shoulder, trying to bring her encouragement. It was all he knew how to do.

Heart

Wrapping her own arm around Ryder Thirteen sinks into his chest and his arms. They wraped around her and gave her shelter, and comfort that she needed. She was happy to have Ryder around.

Still staying snuggled in Ryder's chest Thirteen brings her one arm around to his chest to rest it there with her head as she continued to think. Tilting her head just alittle to look at Ryder.

"I'm still going to find him Ryder. Everyone tells me to move on, but unless I face him I cant."

Shifting slightly on the couch Thirteen makes herself more comfortable as her head finds Ryder's lap and she snuggles into it.

"Its nice having you around. I like it anyways. You just....I dont know how to describe it, but I like it alot. You make me feel safe, and wanted. Thank you!"

Giving a wave to Carson as she enters Katie puts on the best smile she can. She didnt feel that great, and her emotion's were haywire but she couldnt let it bring anyone else down with her. She had to be the Katie everyone thought she was.

"Hey Carson. Yeah, Sure I guess. The best I can anyways."

Looking to Jason than to the door to see if the others were coming, she looks back to Jason again ready to follow him. Finally breaking off though Katie goes to where they normaly sit and start to push some tables together.

Hey Babe, come help me with these.

Though she had done it a million times this time her finger that had been injored in the Agecny attack gets in the way and is pinched between both tables. Giving a little yelp a curse slips from Katie's lips as she moves the tables and holds her finger a few tears forming in her eyes. The pain that shot through her hand was horrendous, more than it noramly would be. But her hand was still healing and it was tender. Doing her best to block the images that wanted to surface Katie sinks down in one of the chairs still holding her hand.

Back in Texas sometime before nightfall...

Giving Cecilia back to Wendy Angel always places Chase in Clint's arms. She had finished checking both over to see that there health was good, and give them the shots the needed.

Standing back for a moment Angel looks at Her daughter, her son-in-law and her two new grandchildren. There was something behind her eyes that she was not saying, a look that told there was more.

Seeing the way her mother was looking at them Wendy gives a small smile as she rocked Cecilia gentily as the little baby sucked on her fist. Her eyes so brightly looking around the room.

"Mom? Whats wrong? How do they look?"

Giving a small smile Angel lets out a sigh as she shakes her head a little.

"They look beautiful thats how they looks. Just like there mother and father."

Drawing silent again Angel hated the new she had to tell. She new it would hurt, and it wasnt fair but she couldnt keep it from eather of them. They had a right to know it was there child.

Coming over to the bed where Wendy sat, and the chair where Clint was next to her Angel sits on the edge of the bed.

"Clint, Wendy I have something I need to talk to both of you about. It might explain a little bit and than again it might leave alot of holes too."

Angel takes a deep breath and than continues.

"Cecilia has a very rare heart condition. It's much like what Rosetta had but with a child so small the chanses of survivle are slim."

The emotions in Angel's eyes were great. When it came to children it was her weak spot and the fact it was her grandchild made it even worse.

"I can't tell you when it will happen because I don't know. All I can say is enjoy the time you do have with your daughter and thank God for every moment with you. Though this might be a sad time filled with alot of emotions remember you still have another perfecitly health baby boy. I believe God has a special place in heaven for kids like Cecilia all in all she will be better off in the eternal fathers arms."

Hearing what her mother said tears filled Wendy's eyes. Her baby girl would not be with them long and every day could be the last. The emotions that came alot with that hurt alot.

"But, mom cant you do anything? Cant you help her? She looks ok!"

Angel shook her head. She new it was hard to understand and comprehend. It was even hard for her when she had the tests in front of her.

"No Baby, there is nothing I can so. Not with someone so small. And yes on the outside she looks ok but its her heart that is weak. Love her, get to know her, let her brother get to know her and make her happy before she leaves us. Thats all we can do. I'm sorry."

Scars

Jen pauses her work and looks to Katie with surprise then sympathy. It was true - everyone had expected her to bounce back. But it was only because Katie was always so strong, and never said anything if something was bothering her. "Oh, Katie..."

She reaches out to put a hand on her arm, but she's already starting to leave. "But, wait, I..." She watches in disappointment as Katie slips away. God, please send her your comfort.

Jen sighs and tries to concentrate on helping her brother with the last of the boxes. Katie had many outward scars now. It wasn't surprising that it bothered her, being out in public. Jen had felt the same way when she'd been in a wheelchair. The good thing was that over time, the scars would grow less and less evident - traces would remain, but she was still beautiful and the scars would diminish. The bad thing was that she had even deeper inner scars... scars that had penetrated her heart and mind... and those took far more work to dissolve.

"Everything okay?" Mike looks at her worried face with concern.

"Hmm? Um, yeah... I mean..." Jen knew Katie didn't want her to say anything. "Yeah, it's fine. Here, help me with this extension cord."

Jason waits for Katie, not saying anything yet. Hearing that she would go to Mom and Pops, he gives a little nod and starts out of the parking lot. "My sugar level is fine," he comments a bit dryly. Maybe it wasn't the whole truth, but he didn't need her worrying over him - not piled on top of everything else.

Pulling out into the street, the ride is quiet. Much quieter than normal. No verbal conversation takes place. No silent conversation takes place. Jason doesn't even turn on the radio. It's just quiet.

Finally getting to the restaurant, Jason parks near the entrance. Waiting a moment, he opens his mouth, then shuts it again. No, telling her now would just ruin the rest of her evening. But she had to know. He'd tell her when he took her home.

Sliding from the truck, he waits for Katie, then goes to the entrance, holding the door open for her.

Carson looks up from the back. There were no other customers there, but he'd planned on the group coming in and Dani had stayed late to help him out. "Hey, Hotshot."

"Hi, Carson." Jason gives a little wave. "The rest of the gang is coming. Just the five of us and Rocky might swing on over to join us too."

"Sounds good. Normal pizza and pop?"

"Pretty sure."

"I'll get on it." Carson waves and smiles to Katie too. "Hey there, Hero. You keeping everyone in line?"

Ryder offers Thirteen a gentle smile and a nod. She wasn't looking for romance tonight, she just wanted some comfort, and he could understand why. Though not knowing about Trent, she was still struggling with the concept of having a father out there who didn't care. That was hard on anyone.

Pulling her up into a strong hug, he just holds her for several minutes. "You'll be alright," he comforts quietly. "Just give yourself time... you'll be alright."

Help

As the night comes to a close Katie finishs helping Jen with taking down the sound bored and a few other things too. It had been a tense night filled with lots of emotions.

Katie had done well trying to keep her own emotions in affect, and keeping the flashbacks and memories at bay. She hated the fight they had, had before and now hated the silence between them. Would they be ok?

Looking at Jen as they finish Katie lets out a sigh.

"Jen...I...think I need help. I dont think I ever got over the Agency taking me like I think I did. I almost died ya know and everyone just expected me to bounce back I even expected me to. Now Jason wants to cut off our connection, and I dont want that. Its making me have flash backs...and its bad enough I have to walk around with all these scars."

Jen was one of Katie's closest friends that she new she could always talk to. It was just so hard actully saying these things. Shaking her head Katie knows she is making no sence and almost on the verge of being hysterical. She shouldnt have to burden Jen with this. Standing Katie sighs again as her eyes give there apoligies.

"Never mind, I'm sorry to have bothered you with this. I'll be fine, don't tell anyone ok please?"

Not letting Jen answer Katie waves to the guys letting them know she would see them at Mom and Pop's as long as Jason was heading that way too.

Exiting the building Katie takes in a deep breath of air. It felt nice, it felt good in her lungs. Looking over to the truck, and seeing the figure sitting there Katie knows Jason was waiting for her. Slowly making her way over Katie opens the door and gets in. Just quiet for a long moment she goes to say something and than stops. Its a few more moments before she speaks again.

"I'll go to Mom and Pop's if your going to go. You really should eat something before you have a sugar attach."

Sitting quietly Katie glances at Jason before looking straight ahead again out the window. She just wanted things to be ok again. She wanted her and Jason to bed ok, she wanted herself to be ok. Would that ever happen?

Looking up from the pillow as Trent leaves Thirteen gets a strange feeling in the pit of her stomach. Almost like she wanted to cry out for him to come back. Why she didn't know, maybe at the Agency she had seen him, and he was kind to her. Maybe that's why he seemed so familiar.

Laying her head back down in the pillow she listens to the soft voice outside as Trent and Ryder say there goodbyes.

Within moments Thirteen can feel Ryder sit down next to her and take her hand. Slowly she opens her eyes to see him. It was nice to know Ryder was there for her, to have someone.

"Can I just have a hug?"

Goodnight

As Jason tunes up his guitar, he looks up quickly, hearing Katie's voice through the mic. His eyes sweep the room to find her, and he just looks at her for a moment. He would have thanked her... he would have said something back. But all he can do is look at her. He didn't know what to say anymore. Even if he tried, it would probably be the wrong thing. So he simply gives her a nod of acknowledgment.

All too soon, people start filing in, and it's time for the band to get in gear. The guys hang backstage for a moment of prayer before going out and Jen takes over the soundboard. Axel wasn't present tonight to help - no one had heard from him.

The lights dim and the music starts. The crowd loves JetStream as always. Jason's voice rings out clear, never hinting of the turmoil beneath the surface. Without Kyle, Phil is the one to make the most humor, along with Jason. The evening is full of music, laughter and clapping. Communication between Jason and Katie is minimal, if at all, other than him catching her eye every once in a while. The concert passes without any dangers.

By the time the band is cleaning and packing things up though, Jason is strung quite tightly. His nerves are high, his tolerance level and sugar are low. It finally becomes apparent to the rest of the band that something is bothering him, but when asked, he gruffly brushes them off. It wasn't worth a discussion. He just needed to get home and get some sleep or something.

Packing up, Jason is the first out the door. He would wait for Katie, then see if she wanted to go to Mom and Pops with the rest of them or not.

Fidgeting with his keys, he sits back in the truck seat, closing his eyes. Despite the evening being long and filled with many things, it was Katie's words that still rang in his mind. "You're hurting me, now let go!" His emotions churn and he puts a lid on some of them so they don't bother Katie too much yet. Just sitting in the quiet, he waits. It was strange to be at odds with Katie. They hadn't been like this since they'd first met. Were they just not going to get along anymore?

Trent's head snaps up, a look of something close to terror crossing his face before Thirteen finishes her goodnights.

Ryder looks at him and puts his hands up. He didn't know why she'd said that either.

Trent relaxes a little again. Apparently she didn't know.

Ryder stares at him a moment. "Go to her," he urges quietly.

"No." Trent shakes his head stubbornly. "I... I can't. I mean... no. She deserves better than me."

"There's not an ounce of judgment in her body," Ryder counters. "All she wants is a father's love."

"She needs to move on." Trent stands up from the table and finishes his coffee. "I should go."

Ryder sighs and nods. "Alright. Thanks for coming."

Trent heads for the front door, but stops, glancing into the living room where he sees a blanketed bundle curled up. As if being pulled, he moves in that direction instead, coming up alongside the couch. Reaching down, he places a hand on Thirteen's head for just a moment. "Goodnight," he whispers. Then he is gone.

Ryder watches Trent leave and shakes his head before locking up for the night. Going to Thirteen, he eases down to sit next to her, wanting to tell her goodnight. But he knew she'd been starting to get upset earlier. He takes her hand in his.

"You need anything before I go upstairs?"

Good Night Dad

Katie wanted to say more but she didnt know what to say. She hurt all over, and she was angry and she could feel Jason slipping away. Hating this feeling of division Katie cant help but be sorry she hadn't controlled her words before. She should of just kept her words in like everything else.

I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything.

Putting the mic in her ear with a heavy sigh her head was heavy. Making sure it worked Katie spoke into it.

"I'm here, good luck."

Not getting the answer she wanted Thirteen stands from the table not answering Trent's question again.

"Thank you for coming to dinner and I hope your brother gets better soon."

Taking her glass from the table a tear was caught leaving her eye but only one. Entering the kitchen and putting her cup in the sink she makes her way back to the living room to sleep on the ouch calling into the kitchen.

"GoodNight Dad....sorry I just wanted to see how it sounded. GoodNight Trent, Ryder."

She wanted a hug, but she new better than to get one from Ryder while Trent was there.

OJ

"Option? You're being irrational!"

As Katie tells him he's hurting her, he's never let go of her so fast. A whole new wave of emotions hit him... mostly fear. What was happening to them?

His eyes flash with confusion and his own pain. "I don't understand you anymore..." Not knowing what else to do, he lets her go. Taking the rest of the food, he just goes inside, still confused, still frustrated. Too worked up to eat.

He hides his emotions from the rest of the band well as they prep for the concert. He leaves Katie alone, now afraid to even approach her again. At this point, he didn't even care about the mic anymore.

A few minutes before show time though, he can start to feel his sugar level dropping. It had been a long time since it had done that. It was a warning sign that his emotions were getting out of hand once again. The best he can do is chug half a bottle of orange juice that Jen gives him.

Trent's eyes stay glued to his coffee. "No... I can't, Jasmine. It's... it's better this way. You need to live for now and your future and not look for the past. Please... can you do that?"

Option

As Jason takes her arm Katie looks down at it and than back up at him. Her own pain and anger boiled.

"The problem is, your not giving me an option anymore."

Looking into Jason eyes Katie's tears wanted to come again as they got cloudy. The feelings the emotions...everything all at once Katie could keep a killed headache coming on. She just wanted to move on now, she wanted to do what she came here for.

Still feeling the pressure on her arm it was a bit harder than he had ever grabbed her before.

"Your hurting me, now let go!!"

"Before you go I wanted to ask you...umm..."

Thirteen wanted to ask Trent something again but she was scared. She was told to drop it but she just could.

"...can you please tell me where my dad is?"

Never would have

Katie's words and her attitude stung and Jason gives a little growl. "Katie, come on!" He finally raises his voice.

Seeing she was going to go back inside without it settled, he takes her arm to stop her. "What is your problem??"

"Yo Jase!" Phil calls to him from inside. "We gotta eat before the show starts!"

"Yeah, we're coming," Jason hollers back to him. Then he looks at Katie again, his hand still on her arm. "All I'm trying to do is what's best. What is the big deal with wearing a stupid mic? You never would have balked before."

Trent almost flinches at Thirteen's touch. He hadn't expected her to take his hand, and he certainly hadn't expected her words.

His eyes start to burn and he looks away before the tears started. He was glad when the cup of coffee is placed in front of him, giving him something else to think about.

"I should get going," he mentions quietly.

Forgivness

Reaching across the table Thirteen takes Trent's hand gently. She wasn't sure why but she did it ways. Looking Trent in the eye Thirteen whispers.

"I forgive you..."

Thirteen is silent for a moment still searching his eyes she gives a tiny smile again. Starting again Thirteen continues with her explanation.

"...I forgive you for being part of the Agency that locked me away. You seem like a good man now, and..thats whats important."

Sitting back in her chair again Thirteen looks at Ryder and than to Trent again before down at her glass.

Looking up at Jason Katie shakes her head. She hated this and she hated Jason forcing her to do something she didnt want to do.

"You don't get it do you."

Grabbing the mic from Jason a small anger burned and she hated it...she hated to so much. Her eyes still watered.

"Congrats."

Turning back to the car Katie takes the food starting to grab it and bring it inside.

Haunted

Trent slowly shakes his head. "No... no number of good deeds ever makes up for the wrong. Not with man or God. It just doesn't work that way."

Looking down, he takes a napkin to wipe up the wet rings from his glass. "No, it takes forgiveness and grace from others. I could never do enough good deeds for the things I've done."

Sighing a little, he cocks his head, just looking at Thirteen. He couldn't help but study her... watch her. How would he know that she was being taught the right things? How would he know that she was being taught about God? How would he know how she was and if she was living right?

He looks down again. "Yet even with forgiveness... a man can be haunted."

"Aw, Katie..." Jason sighs as she gets out of the truck. What was with the tears? He didn't get it. This wasn't that big of a deal.

Getting out, he leaves the food be for now. Going around to her side, he faces her, reaching out to tilt her chin up so he could see her. "I'm not trying to be a moron here, ya know." He shakes his head, his emotions proving his confusion and frustration. "I don't understand why you can't deal with this right now... I don't understand why you're making it into a huge issue."

He tries once more by holding up the mic. "It's not a distraction... ignore it for all I care. But at least put it on in case we need it, alright?"

Breath

Looking up as Ryder comes into the room it startles Thirteen only because she was so deep in thought. But relizing it was Ryder she smiles at him.

"If the Agency pulls familys apart, and runes lives and you were part of that...so does that mean you need to do good deeds to make up for it?"

Thirteen asked innocently fishing for something, something and somehow she felt like she could trust Trent.

Realizing that Jason wasn't getting out of the car right away Katie waits. She new he was going to say something she only hoped it was something she would like to hear. But as Jason speaks again hands her the mic Katie's heart sinks. Just holding the mic for a long moment a tear rolls down Katie's cheek as her hand shakes. Pushing out the memories in her mind she trys her best but they just want to come. For once it felt strange to be the one with flashes. Taking the mic she puts it on the dashbored as she opens the door quickly.

No, I need to considerate tonight. I need to make sure the Agency dosnt show up. I cant have distraction.I have to keep you safe.

Getting out and closing the door behind her Katie's heart raced as she tryed to breath in the night air. It felt like someone squeezing her lungs and she couldn't breath.

Bending down Katie continues to keep breathing in deep breaths regaining herself the best she could.

Humor

Trent is quiet for a moment. He wasn't surprised by Thirteen's innocent persistence, but he wasn't sure how much he really wanted to say.

"Trent, would you like some coffee?"

He looks up to Ryder grateful for the brief interruption. "Um, yeah, sure, that would be great."

Ryder stays away from the conversation, having quietly but successfully made Trent stay a little longer.

Trent looks over to Thirteen again, studying her eyes. "Yes... I was as part of the Agency... for many years. Not by choice but... I did a lot of... regrettable things." Yes... there were a lot. He had betrayed his family over and over again. He could justify it with reasoning over the Agency's threats but when it really came down to it... he was just as guilty.

"The Agency eats people alive, Jasmine. People like me who get sucked in. People like you who never knew anything else. They ruin lives and tear families apart. It's what they do best."

Jason knew he was frustrating Katie, and that made him all the more frustrated. But he couldn't let his emotions boil... not on a concert night. Joined by Katie, he starts the pickup and pulls out to head for the fast food place to pick up the food.

Not a whole lot is said. Jason didn't know what to say. On one level, he and Katie were getting along great. And on another level, there seemed to be a wedge that was driving them apart. He didn't understand it and he wished it would go away.

It's not long before they're back in the parking lot again and Jason is shutting off the engine. But before gathering the food, he hands Katie a wired object. It was her mic.

"Humor me, Kat, please? I won't ignore you when you need me and I'm not going to shut you out. But please... can we have one evening of being normal for once?"

No!

Not even worrying about his question for the moment Thirteen own curosity was now peeked.

"A life like yours? You...were in the Agncy right?"

Thirteen leaned on the table a little bit just watching Trent. She wanted to know more, she wanted to know why his voice soothed her, and why she reminded her of someone. She wanted to know who Trent was.

No!

Katie states flatly.

I dont need my mic, so keep your emotions open. Its how we have always done it, and its not gone yet so thats how we will continue to do it. Please, and thank you!

Katie didnt like frustrating Jason, but she was frustrated too. Being swept up in Jason's arms Katie gives a small smile.

"Yeah, food."

Taking the list from Jen Katie looks over it quick before being ushered out with Jason once more. Finally getting out the door Katie looks at the setting sun. It was starting to cool off and it felt good, fresh but tonight it was hard to enjoy with so much on her mind.

Glancing to let left to see Jason head to his car Katie lets out a sigh before following quickly after him getting into his car.

No!

A little sheepishly, Trent shakes his head. Another grin surfaces, this time, one of amusement. Thirteen was sharp. She was bright, and had a sense of humor and she was getting along well. Why complicate things?

"When you've had a life like mine, no... you tend to not want to talk about it very much." He cocks his head. "What about you, hmm? How is it living here?"

Jason pauses his work a moment, trying not to think about his emotions too much. He'd been trying to wean them away from their communication until they were really cut off, but Katie just wasn't cooperating. Not that he thought she would, but it had been worth a try.

He gives her a wry grin. "Keep your mic on and we won't need this." He taps his head.

Finishing up his work, he's just stepping off the stage when her question comes to him once again. He almost trips.

What did I tell you about-

"No!" A laugh follows his frustrated answer as heads turn in his direction. Grabbing Katie, he swings her up to cradle her in his arms and plants a kiss on her lips. "Food... we're talking about food, remember?"

Jen grins as she watches them, and hands Katie a list for some fast food. "Hurry back, you two."

"Oh, we will, this spitfire never slows down." Jason heads to the back, Katie still in his arms until they get outside. The sun has already started to set, and it's already starting to get cool.

Today?

Katie stands and gently taps Jason's head with her finger. She hadnt said anything till now but it was starting to get to her.

Only if you use that up there like we normally do! I'll take all I can get until we don't have it anymore.

Letting out a small sigh Katie turns from Jason. She didn't feel fine, she felt all messed up but what was the scene of saying anything it wouldn't fix one thing at all. She'd get over it all sooner or later. Just keep it out of mind out of reach and it would be ok.

"Who else wants some grub?"

Stopping Katie glance over her shoulder at Jason as a small smile forms on her face.

Will you marry me today?

"Well, I have Ryder and Katie is nice too...but that didnt answer what your family is like."

Thirteen gives a small smile.

"You dont like talking about yourself much do you?"

She might not understand much but she was pretty observant. Thirteen could tell Trent was uneasy talking about his family but she wasnt sure why. Maybe because he new she had non?

Slip

Jason eyes Katie as she speaks. He still had a funny feeling about how she was dealing with coming back from the Agency, but she always said she was alright, so he shrugs it off again.

"Oh, you'll get back into it," he assures.

Looks to me like-

"-you never left." He'd been trying so hard to depend on verbal communication that he doesn't notice his slight slip up, or how odd it must have felt to Katie. "Okay, I need something to eat. You wanna go pick up that supper with me?"

Trent tries to smile. Thirteen was just curious. He couldn't very well just shut her off. "It's a big ranch with horses and lots of nice people. Even the ones who aren't really family feel like it anyway."

Looking down, he gives a little sigh. "Even to the undeserving." Looking back up again, he shrugs, once more avoiding specifics about his family. "Kinda like what you got here. You got a lot of people who care about you and help you."

Family

Looking up at Jason again Katie trys to give a smile.

"Hummm? Oh...I've been worse."

Katie giving a nod as she finishs taping something down next to Jason after being asked. Everything was such whirlwind a Katie had to wonder how she really was moving around. Maybe it was her body that new the rutean even if her brain wasn't registering it.

I just have to get in the swing of things around the stage again.

"I don't think its boring. Living with family must be nice?"

Taking a sip of her water a pang is felt in her heart as family comes up once again. A sadness flashing in her eyes It hurt knowing her father was out there, and didnt want her. Than it hits her...maybe her father didnt even know she was alive!

Trying to push the feeling away again trys to get back on the topic of Trent again to keep her mind busy.

"What it like on the ranch? Whats your family like?"

Boring

Jason smiles and shakes his head. "It's not like I asked you half an hour ago," he teases.

Still working with his hands busy, he gives Katie a sidelong glance, his emotions stirring as he spoke with sincerity. He'd been watching her, and he'd noticed her uneasiness. He wondered how "fine" she really was. "How you holding up?"

Trent has his glass cupped between his hands, and he looks across at Thirteen, contemplating an answer. "Well, I..." What did he do? He didn't really even have a job. Half the time he felt like he was mooching off his family. "I live at a ranch with... with some of my family. That's where Katie's aunt is and..." He shrugs. The less information he gave her about himself, the better. "I have a boring life. Not much to talk about."
