Tears to smiles

As both Nate and Misty leave the table, the others try to make up for the quiet with further chatter, accomplishing it well, and drawing attention away from the four who had been in the spotlight.

Con looks over to Dalton, feeling as though he should be included in at least as much as everyone else. He keeps his voice low though, not wanting to just be blabbing about what was happening. "That guy over there...Carson... he used to work for TJY. Got in a bit of trouble. Been on the up and up lately though, working here. And... it looks like his sister came for a visit." He gives a slight shrug. "Nate's good friends with Carson, and Misty..." He pauses, not sure what to say about that one.

"She knows Carson's sister a bit," Kyle interrupts. "I imagine she's trying to smooth out some wrinkles there." He twirls his glass in his hand, feeling a little uneasy for some reason as his eyes focus on the swirling ice cubes.

Jason watches Nate leave, then Misty, wondering if they'll be able to do any good or not. He'd only heard snippets about Carson and his sister before... but apparently there was a big issue there... big enough to cause a scene, and to involve friends.

Half listening to the conversations around the table, and half watching the others, he sees Misty talk for a while, then head to the bathroom. Without even realizing it, his own thoughts slip.

That flame just won't die...

He glances to Kyle, then shakes his head a little to keep himself on track and out of other people's businesses. Using a spoon as a catapult, he absentmindedly skyrockets a balled-up straw wrapper. It goes flying down the table, landing in Jamie's drink. Jason's eyes widen and he rests an elbow on the table to duck behind his own hand, suppressing a smile.

Katie, not one word!

Dani's lip quivers as she listens to Misty. This wasn't at all like she'd planned. She liked Misty, and wanted to greet her as a friend, but she'd already messed that all up, and now she didn't even know how to respond.

Listening to Misty's words, they cut her to the quick, slicing through her shell into her heart. She swallows hard and looks down at the counter, so many things running through her mind. Looking up, she looks into Misty's eyes, and sees the sincerity...she feels the genuine concern.

Dani wants to respond...she wants to say something... but she just can't find the words. As Misty walks away, she hangs her head and just sits at the counter, feeling lost... alone. She'd planned on coming and being civil. She'd planned on telling Carson how she felt, but not losing her temper. She'd planned on seeing him, and setting a time and place they could talk. But she'd lost it... as soon as she'd seen him, she'd been bombarded by all her disappointment that had turned into anger, and she'd blown her chance of renewing anything with him.

Finally breaking down into more tears, she buries her face in her hands, her shoulders shaking a little as she cries. She missed her brother so much... and now he probably hated her.

Carson looks up as Nate joins him, his eyes red, but void of tears. "Friend, huh? Don't you know I can't keep those?"

He scoffs at his own words. "Sorry. I don't know what I need, Nate. A second chance would be nice."

He leans his head back in the booth, strumming his fingers on the table. He glances to his sister and sees Misty talking with her. He wasn't surprised...and a part of him wanted to get up and run to them...to be with the two people that had meant so much to him. And yet...he was the one that had formed the barrier that prevented that from happening.

Carson finally lowers his gaze and looks back to Nate. He appreciated his friend's quietness...Nate knew he didn't need to be preached at... maybe he did just need to talk it through. His dinner date was forgotten.

"You know...it's different seeing my sister as a grown woman. She doesn't need that big brother to watch out for bullies anymore...she's got a life...she's an adult. Only thing is, adults don't have blind love like kids." He can't help a dry laugh. "All she used to see was a hero. Now she sees me for who I really am."

He takes deep breath, letting it out slowly. "There's a lot of history there...and half of it, she doesn't even remember. Which is good...I'm glad she doesn't. No kid needs to remember some of the stuff that went on back then. And I had a chance to have a relationship with her again... that time I went after her to California." He shrugs lamely. "So I screwed that up like everything else. I don't know why. I guess... I don't know. Maybe it was just my dang pride. Maybe my own perspective of a hero was skewed to begin with. I always felt like I needed to be perfect in Dani's eyes, so she didn't get disappointed or hurt. But maybe if she'd seen me as human to begin with, she wouldn't be disappointed now."

Carson shakes his head, his eyes wandering to the front counter again. He sees Misty leave Dani, and sees Dani's slumped form, knowing that she was now crying. "Hurts, ya know?" He swallows hard. It was hard for him to admit when something hurt him. He was so used to being the tough guy. He had an outer shell that was thicker than anything. But pain had been felt a lot lately, and there were only two people who could evoke it... and both he had hurt right back.

His eyes linger on his sister, and he realizes that she's not leaving. Did she really want to talk to him more? Was she really so angry with him that she'd walk away? She wasn't leaving... He waits... she still didn't leave.

Carson glances back to Nate. His friend's silence spoke more than words ever could. The look in Nate's eye said it all, and Carson could feel the pangs of guilt for giving up so quickly. "Yeah, I know...it's a dumb bloke who wouldn't go right back there and try to start over, isn't it?"

He sighs, continuing to read his friend's eyes, and he nods reluctantly. "Yeah...I know."

Finally, he slides from the booth and stands up. His body language conveyed how broken he felt, but for once...for once, he would return to do all he could without giving up so quickly. "Thanks, Nate... just for listening I guess. Sorry for the scene... you should go back to your friends."

He pauses, then turns, heading to the kitchen. He goes around through the side, and is quiet, looking at Herb once to convey his apology for the interruption, while at the same time, his gaze begged for forgiveness tonight.

It takes several minutes for him to emerge to the counter again, trying again, this time with humility.

Dani feels the shadow of someone on the other side of the counter, the hears a glass being set down and pushed towards her.

Sniffing, she lifts her head just enough to see a frosted glass with pink contents.

Carson swallows hard, his voice wavering. "It used to make scraped knees feel better. How about a wounded heart?"

Dani stares at the strawberry milkshake, the memories flooding back. Her hand slides to the glass, fingering the coldness for a moment before she finally looks up at her brother. "Oh, Carson." She blinks back more tears. "I'm sorry."

Carson glances down, then after a moment, pushes off the counter, to come around the other side. No words needed to be said as he receives his sister into his arms, holding her close...holding her tight.

Dani cries onto his shoulder as her arms wrap around him. "I'm sorry," she sobs again. "I didn't want to yell at you. I just...I wanted to understand."

"I know." Carson closes his eyes, kissing the top of Dani's head. "I know. And I don't even have a good answer. Can you forgive me?"

Dani pulls away, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand and sniffing again. Looking up into his eyes, she finally nods. "Yeah. I just don't want to lose you a third time."

"You won't." Carson sets his hands on her shoulders. "I needed a good yelling at to remind me to quit being such an idiot. I deserve to have you see how low I've been...it's just more justice for all the stupid stuff I did."

"I don't care that you don't have anything to show." Dani shakes her head. "That's not important to me. All I want is my brother...that's all... just to know you're there."

Carson is quiet for a moment, just looking at his sister. He was so sorry. He'd made the decision not to contact her, but it was out of pure pride and fear. He'd ruined enough with those two things...he couldn't do it again... not with her. "I'm here...and this time I won't drop off the face of the earth."

"Promise?"

"Promise."

"Good..." Dani gives a short laugh through her tears. "...'Cause I'm moving here. All my stuff is in my car."

Carson's eyes widen. "Really?"

"Yeah." Dani turns a little sheepish. "I don't know what possessed me, but I hadn't done anything crazy in a while and... even though I was mad, I wanted to be closer to you. Not to mention, California was getting on my nerves. This was the only place I could think of to get a new start."

Carson can't help a chuckle, and pulls her in for another hug. "You spitfire, you."

A small smile starts on Con's mouth as he sees Carson and Dani. It looked like they would be okay, and that was a good thing. He glances to Nate, who had returned to the table, catching his eye. "You don't think they'd like some pizza, do you?" He didn't know if an invitation would be the wisest thing or not... but he hated seeing Carson left out like this, especially at a time when some interaction with old friends might do him good. If the two wanted to be left alone, that was perfectly understandable, but he didn't want to pass up an opportunity if it presented itself. At the same time though, he didn't know if others here, namely Misty, would appreciate the extra company.

Your Turn

*Mom and Pop's is alive as everyone starts to file in shortly after Con and Jamie gets the tables finished up. The laughter rings out as everyone jokes and enjoys the good time.

Though Dalton felt out of place, and didnt understand a lot he tryed his best to be some what sociable. Coming across at times as cocky and maybe even a little cold he really did try and act sivle. This, being around other people was new for him. Differnt from Arizona these people were more than just coworkers, they were family.

The fun and chattering continues the newcomer going un noticed by most. Untill the hightened voices and the harsh tones draw a hush over everyone.*

* As the familure femail voice hits Misty's hears she looks up. Finding the face that matched it Misty could only with it was a happy get together, but knows by the looks on Dani and Carson's face it was not. Let alone knowing Carson hadnt contacted Dani since they last went out there.

Misty looks to Jason and gives a nod to his question and than looks to Kyle than back to Dani. As Carson slides into a nearby booth Misty can't help but let her eyes follow him as a suddin sadness creeps into her heart.*

*Nate watchs as his friends walks to a nearby booth. Almost like a defeted warrior Carson hug his head and it make Nate's heart ack. He'd seen Carson upset, and he seen him sad, but nothing could explain the look as the one he had now. Nate had relized a while ago when helping Misty and Carson his sister ment the world, and now, now he was in the verge of losing that too.

Giving Laura a kiss on the head Nate smiles down at her.*

"I'll be right back Hun."

*Excusing himself Nate walks over to the booth where Carson was and leans on the table for a moment just staying silent. Till finally he decieds to speak.*

"Mind if an old friend warms up this empty booth?"

*Before Carson can even answer Nate slides into the booth and puts his legs up so his back is leaning aganst the wall.*

"You looks like you could use someone to talk too, or just listen."

*Resting a hand on Dani's shoulder Misty slides onto a stool next to her. Giving her a friendly smile.*

"Men, can't live with them and can't shoot them leagaly huh?"

*Misty trys to show some humor to get Dani to smile if even just a little. Though she dosnt know how much good it will really do. Looking behind her at Carson for a moment and than back to Dani she lets out a small sigh. This really want her place anymore, but somehow Misty still felt that this was right.*

"You know, your brother went through a pretty rocky path there for a while. He threw everything away, and when he hit rock bottom he finally relized it. In a sence I can see where he is coming from. I don't think I would want anyone to see me like that eather. Specialy someone who once looked at me like a Hero. I'd want them to have that image with them for what I was instead of the dead shall that is now."

*Misty turns a little to look at Dani as she continues to lean on the counter.*

"I do have to say though, your brother has been doing alot of changing for the good from what I can see. He's starting to get his life together. After losing everything, he's starting to walk the pather she should."

*Misty heaves a heavy sigh as a few emotions move inside of her. Witch direction she is not sure but the feeling is strange.*

"Your brother had lost everything he's loved and held dear Dani, don't make him lose you too."

*A few unexspected tear form in Misty's eye as she stands from the stool laying a hand on Dani's shoulder to pat it gently.*

"Blood will always be thicker than anything life throws at you. Maybe its your turn to be his hero."

*Moving away from the counter Misty makes her exits and heads for the bathroom. What was going on inside of her at the moment, she wasent sure what it was or what caused it. The tears that sprung in her eyes, she didnt know how to explain, cold water to the face would be the cure.*

Unhappy reunion

Bret can sense Angelica switching into business mode, and he lets the personal issues drop. There would be time for that later…the two sisters would work out their difference eventually, and hopefully they’d all be okay. But for now…he needed to go with the system instead of fighting it.

“Okay.” He nods in agreement. “We go downtown.”

He looks Angelica in the eye. “I know you don’t like me all that much… but just for the record… any other time I would have high-tailed it out of here. But I got stuff that’s too important for me to run away from now.”

Bret slips his arm around Charlotte’s shoulders. “I know I’m an accessory to the crimes, but I’ll do what it takes to either clear my record or pay. I trust you… and I’ll do what you say.”

Con gives an approving nod to his friend. “You’re doing the right thing, Bret. Reese?”

Reese nods. “I’ll escort them in. You’re free to go.”

Con offers a wave to everyone, and then a wink to Charlotte. “Take care of your man.”

Bret watches his friend leave, then takes a deep breath. “Okay…I’m ready.”

…The jail cell bars were hard and cold under Bret’s grip. He hated it here…he hated being caged up… he hated the feeling of helplessness. But for now…for a short time, it was necessary. Until a preliminary hearing in three days, he would be held here, under the charges of armed robbery and murder. Then hopefully he would be released on bail.

In the meantime, Charlotte would help Angelica gather proof of their alibi to fight that end of things. After that, it would be Angelica’s job to convince the authorities that if the charges of Bret being an accessory to the crimes could be dropped, he’d help them find the real criminals. There would be another blotch on his record, but it was a lot better than serving time in prison.

Bret leans his head up against the cell bars and looks at Charlotte with apology. “I’m sorry you got dragged into this… I shouldn’t have ever gotten involved with those guys again in the first place.”

He sighs, regret showing through. “Just don’t go back to my place… I don’t want you there alone in case the guys decide to do something stupid.”

“Hey, Mom.” Con grins at Mabel and leans on the counter, tossing his mother-in-law a wink. “Think you can handle a batch of us tonight?”

Carson sticks his head around the corner from the kitchen. “Got a load coming?”

Con chuckles. “You could put it that way. How ya doing?”

“Oh…hanging in there.”

“Good.” Con turns around to Jamie, and nods to the tables. “Since we’re the first ones here, how about we push some of them tables together so there’s room enough for everyone.”

It doesn’t take long, and people start filing in. Jason and Katie, Laura and Nate, Wyatt and others. He takes the liberty of trying to make sure Dalton knows everyone, making an effort to create a comfort zone, even though those from TJY were feeling just a little awkward, and it was obvious that Dalton was too.

Carson keeps his eye on the clock from the kitchen, knowing he was supposed to go meet Jess, but also needing to make sure he helped out enough here until he could leave.

“Yo, Mom and Pop!” Kyle comes bursting through the front door, spotting the group of friends. “Kyle is in da house!” Grinning from ear to ear, he half dances over to the table, finding an empty seat next to Misty. “And how is Miss T tonight, hmm?”

He flops down and looks around the table. “Evening, y’all.” Spotting Katie, his smile widens. “KT, good to see ya. Jase man, you’re back too.”

Jason raises his glass of Pepsi. “You bet.”

“Good deal, ‘cause we got practice tomorrow night, and you better be there. Cryptic is joining us.”

He turns to give Misty a peck on the cheek. “And how are you?”

It isn’t long before laughter rings out over the chatter as the group starts interacting more. Stories are swapped, jokes are shared, and small talk is passed around. Those from TJY try to include Dalton, though at times it’s hard, because so many things revolved around inside jokes, or things that only those in the group knew from the past.

Con sits across from Dalton, a little wary of the stranger at first, but does his best not to come across as anything but friendly. After all, Dalton was working with his wife…he at least needed to be polite for that reason alone.

The door opens, ringing the bell, though it’s not heard above the noisy chatter. The blonde young woman scans the room, a little nervously, though she holds her head high.

Spotting the large group, she looks at the faces, spotting one she knew. Misty. But she was busy with her friends… and the last she knew anyway, Misty was no longer a route to her destination. But hopefully this restaurant was.

She walks across the floor, determination in her step, her shoes clicking on the floor, her leather jacket swaying slightly over her jeans. Getting to the counter, she sits down on a stool and grabs a menu, though her eyes don’t stay on the prices. Instead they wander to where she could see through to the kitchen.

Carson is busy helping Herb make the pizzas when he gets the funny feeling he’s being watched. Though trying to hurry so he could leave in five minutes, he pauses and looks up.

Spotting the visitor, his eyes widen, the blood draining from his face. The bowl of sauce slips from his grip, crashing to the floor in a red mess.

Trying to get his concentration back, Carson is quick to clean everything up and stir a new batch, but he can’t stay for long. Before he goes crazy, he finally excuses himself. “Sorry, Herb. I’ll...I’ll be right back.

Taking off his apron, Carson slips out of the kitchen from the side to come around the outside of the counter. He stops several feet away from the woman, his eyes still wide, filled with rampant emotions. “Dani?”

She turns and throws him a look less than pleased. “Well, I guess you really do work here. Had a hard time finding you. Kind of a winding trail.”

Her irritated tone throws Carson into defensiveness, though his confusion lingers. “What…what are you doing here?”

Dani quirks one eyebrow. “No, ‘Hi, Dani’ no hug, no ‘how you been?’ I thought so.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I don’t know.” Dani turns back to her menu. “I don’t even know why I came. You’re busy. Go back to work.”

“No.” Carson steps closer. Half of him wanted to be upset with Dani’s attitude, and half of him wanted to draw her in for a hug. And still part of him felt like running and hiding for the way he’d treated her… or rather his lack of treatment since he’d seen her last. “Why did you come here?”

Dani scoffs and looks back at him. “You think I just happened to come here? Was on vacation and saw an Italian restaurant and decided to stop? Why else would I come but to find you?”

“Well why?”

“I don’t know.” Dani shakes her head. “A while back I would have said it was because I wanted to see you. Now I’m not sure. Maybe I just wanted to look you in the eye one more time and try to figure out how you played me for a fool.”

Carson dares to come even closer, leaning on the counter so he can see his sister’s face. “What are you talking about?”

Dani almost laughs. “You tell me. You’re the one that made promises to see me, but decided to drop off the face of the earth instead. Was it too hard to tell me you were alive? Too difficult to write? To expensive to call?”

Carson glances down, his face reddening as his guilt rises. Why did this have to happen here…in public? “Dani, can we just go somewhere quiet and talk?”

A smile creases Dani’s lips. “No, I don’t think so. It’s rather fun seeing you squirm at the moment.”’ She glances over to the table of people, and spots Misty. Turning back to Carson, she cocks her head. “I’d go say hi to Misty, but I heard you two-timed her. Way to go.”

Carson bristles. “Look, there’s a lot of things you don’t know, and obviously you’ve made some pretty big assumptions. So let’s just go somewhere else where we can talk, okay?”

“No. I’m staying here. Now, if you choose to walk away, that’s fine. I wouldn’t be surprised. You’d just be keeping up with your pattern.”

“Look, I’m sorry, okay?” Carson’s voice raises slightly. “I was just…it…I…”

“What?” Dani pushes him further. “You were just what? Too busy? Too arrogant? Too forgetful? I tried for months to get a hold of you! I’ve been worried sick, I’ve stewed about it, and I’ve busted my britches trying to figure out why on earth you’d show up from the dead, just to leave me high and dry again.”

Carson sets his hands on his hips, irritation overcoming the mixed emotions of seeing his sister. “So why now? Why did you pick now to come and yell at me?”

“Because the stars were right?”

“Why?” Carson demands sternly.

“I got fired from my job.” Tears spring into Dani’s eyes. “Figured it was time for a vacation. And I thought, what the hey, as long as the rest of my life is going down the tubes, I might as well come and say to your face what I’ve wanted to for a long time now.”

“Look, I’m sorry, okay?” Carson throws up his hands. “I screwed up. There. Is that what you wanted?”

“No!” Dani’s own voices raises, as the public atmosphere is forgotten.

Several eyes from the table look up as voice can be heard. A few confused looks are exchanged as to what’s going on, and who Carson is arguing with. Jason throws Misty a questioning glance. “Hey…is that his sister?”

“Well what did you want then? Do you want me to get on my knees? Apologize ten times? I can’t exactly buy back time.”

Dani slides off the stool to face her brother boldly. “I want to know why you left me high and dry. I want to know why you didn’t call or write or anything. Why, Carson? Why did you claim to have thought the world of me, just to forget about me like that?!”

Carson looks down, shaking his head slightly. He lets the argument pause for a moment before looking back up. His tone reflects anger to cover up his guilt and shame. “Maybe I didn’t feel worthy. Maybe I didn’t think I deserved to be your big brother anymore. Maybe in the beginning I was just plain scared I wasn’t good enough. Then maybe enough time had passed that by then I just figured you were better off forgetting about me.”

“That’s stupid,” Dani counters. “You had the decency to see me when my life was in danger, you could have at least let me know you were still alive.”

“What do you want me to say?” Carson holds out his hands to the side. “Take a good look. I’ve been a drunk. I’ve been an all-around scumbag. I’ve broken the law. I’ve been a liar and a two-timer.” He points toward the back hall. “Down there you’ll find a tiny room with all the stuff I own that will fit into one bag. Why? Because right now, that’s where I live. Why? Because I was stupid. I lost everything because I was a total idiot, made stupid decisions, and now I’m paying for it. I have nothing. Nothing, Dani, don’t you get it? Not a home, not even a car. Why would I want you here to see that? Why would I want to invite you into my life? Into a life that’s…that’s worthless?”

The rising emotions pool behind his eyes and he finally lowers his tone. “I’m sorry. I was wrong. And I guess I made the wrong choice…again.”

Feeling lower than the floor, Carson’s shoulders drop and he simply goes to a nearby booth, sliding in to sit and fold his arms to bury his face. He’d thought about seeing his sister again so many times…this kind of reunion was not at all what he’d pictured. It was just another nightmare… further aftermath of his own decisions.

Dani watches her brother walk away, a tear trickling down her cheek. She turns back to the counter to lean her elbows on it, trying to ignore eyes that she now realized were watching. She could feel Mabel near, and wanted to leave, but her feet felt glued to the floor. She was so angry at Carson… yet she could see that his eyes were clear… it was obvious he wasn’t drinking, and he didn’t even smell like smoke this time. But who was he?

Con’s eyes follow Carson to see him sit down…a scene that would make anyone soften. Con looks over to Nate with question, wondering if someone should interfere or not.

Kyle glances to Misty, then to Dalton who wouldn’t have a clue what any of this was going on, then back to Misty again.

Fire with Fire

*Katie can't help but laugh a little as she sits at the desk. It felt good to be back, and it felt good to not have the tention with Jason again.

I think I'll ride with you tonight. I'll make sure I am ready and waiting.

Finally moving Domino gently from her lap Katie stands and heads out of her cubicle going to the copy room to copy some papers.*

*For a moment Angelica just stands stunned looking at Bret. His words about her giving up on love hit hard and for a moment she wondered if thats what it really was but quickly she push the feelings away and looks to her sister, a bit oh hurt and disapointment flicker in her eyes but is quickly gone as she stratens again and clears her throut. Controlling her voice so it didnt shake.*

"I'm going to need the number for the church you got married in and the hotel you stayed in. I need to see if I can get there video camra's to have a visual proof of you being there as well. Fight fire with fire we need all we can get."

*Angelice looks up from the desk to look between everyone.*

"I am going to need everyone's help on this one. We have to work fast and efficient. They want you turned in now, and well we have to but we wont let you stay there for long."

*Charlotte stands close to her husband putting an arm around him. She would stand with him to the end she'd never waver. Anything asked she would do. To death do us part, she would live up to that.*

Yellow car

Jason grins a little. Yeah, well... anyone else I'd warn not to be scared of him. But I don't think I need to warn you of that.

He shakes his head and dives into work. Speaking of which, we going separate, or am I driving?

Brian's eyes narrow as Angelica starts in about Charlotte marrying him, his face growing red. First, he was upset he had to be here at all, then to be standing here while his new wife got chewed out in front of Reese and Con... He'd known Angelica wouldn't be happy, but Charlotte didn't deserve this, and now was not the time for this kind of petty argument.

"You only think it's crazy because it's something you wouldn't do," Bret intervenes pointedly, his eyes on Angelica. "Just because you've given up on love doesn't mean your sister has to."

He stands tall, unashamed of their choice, and pulls Charlotte even closer to his side. "I'm your brother-in-law now whether you like it or not. But quite frankly, that's not the issue right now. If you want to spout off about our personal lives, and argue about domestic matters in the office, then I guess I can't stop you. But that's not why we came. We came because I'm in trouble and I've been wrongly accused. We trust you to be able to help, and we trust your abilities. If you're not willing to help, then by all means, simply say so and I'll get a public defender to see my case. But if you can set aside your personal feelings for a moment, act like an adult, and treat us like adults, I think everybody in this room would appreciate it."

Bret takes a deep breath as he finishes, knowing that his statement would either bring resolution or wrath. He wasn't sure which it would.

Con stand by, looking between the newlyweds to Angelica to Reese, and back again. He was staying out of this one, and just being moral support if needed.

Reese lifts his eyebrows at Bret's boldness, and glances towards Angelica. Whether he wanted to admit it or not, Bret made sense, and at least right now, was undoubtedly genuine. Reese clears his throat a little, trying to break up the tension, but allowing Angelica to speak first.

A yellow car parks on the side of the road. She stares at her map, drawing out the lines with her finger, and turning the map so North is up. Squinting, she finally looks up again at the road sign. It looked like she had about another hour and a half to go.

Setting the map down, she pulls back out onto the road, her tires squealing as adrenaline controls her actions.

Crazy

*Receiving Jason emotions Katie looks up for a moment. She'd forgotten that Wyatt had said someone was here to be the new tech guy.

Oh yeah, I haven't met him yet. Not sure if I really want to or not.

Katie can't help but put a little laugh laced to the end of the emotion she sent out. It was good they had a new tech guy they needed it, and she was moving on and had let Scott go, but still she wasn't sure she was ready to meet his replacement just yet. If he was to come to Mom and Pop's tonight than she would meet him.

Going back to her paperwork Katie rests her free hand on Domino's head gently stroking it.*

*Charlotte nods her head at Reese.*

"Thanks and yes I know she is. But at least I'd die happy."

*Letting out a sigh Charlotte stands next to Bret just listing.*

"I think once we explain everything to Angelica she will be able to help Bret. How they got that picture of him I don't know but over the last 3 days I was with Bret non stop he never left my sight."

*As Reese calls for Angelica, Charlotte looks to Bret as her hand tightens on his just a little more. It was bad enough her husband was being blamed for something he didn't do let alone now have to listen to her sister.*

*Hanging up her phone Angelica gets up from her desk and makes her way out of the office and across the floor to Reese's. Seeing Bret and Charlotte, Angelica's face turns a bit red as she enters and closes the door behind her.*

"Where have you been? I've been worryed sick, and you.."

*Angelica looks to Bret.*

"..Are you trying to drag my sister down with you? I..."

*Before Angelica can say anything alse Charlotte intarupts her. Her own irratation growing.*

"Angelica, he is innocent. I know for a fact is wasnt him."

"How do you know for sure Charlotte? Were you with him 24/7?"

"Yes I was...."

*Charlotte looks to Bret and than to Angelica again before lifting her hand.*

"We were in Vages getting married."

*The color from Angelica's face drains as she just looks at her sister and than to Bret than back to her sister.*

"YOU did WHAT? Are you crazy? You hardly even know eachother...you....how could you go and do this?"

*Charlotte trys to stand strong aganst her sister. It was something she didnt often do but this occation called for it.*

"I may not have known Bret for long but we have spend day in and day out together and I know who he is. I fell in love with him and he's made me happy. He's treated me like a human being and I wouldnt change my choose for anything in the world. I love him."

*Angelica lets out a huff as she walks over to Reese desk and leans one arm on it.*

"This is crazy."

*Charlotte lets out another breath of air. That wasnt as bad as she thought it would be though it wasnt good eather she could only hope in time Angelica would accept what had happend and would still help Bret.*

Accomplice

Jason quirks an eyebrow at Dalton's remark and tone. "Yeah...later." Leaving, Trooper follows behind.

Well...that Dalton character is... different. Talk about getting someone opposite Scott as a replacement. But I guess if he knows what he's doing.

Jason shuts his office door behind himself and goes to flop down in his chair. He didn't want to report in to Reese yet. He'd find out what had been happening around here before then.

Domino snuggles into Katie's lap, whimpering for several minutes before finally settling down. Resting her head on Katie's leg, she remains with her new mistress, finding the most comfort here for now.

"Have to go? Then I guess I can't say no, can I?" Kyle laughs. "I'm off work right at seven. I'll just meet everybody there. Save me a spot if I'm late."

Con returns Jamie's kiss, his mouth upturning into a grin. "I'm glad you chose that it was me being nice. How could I ever not be, hmm?"

Wrapping his arms around Jamie, he pulls her close for a hug before letting her go. "Alright then. Mom and Pop's it is. We gotta keep an eye on the rest of these whippersnappers anyway."

Con's eyes roam the floor for a moment. "Off topic, you haven't seen..." His voice trails off as he spots the couple by the door. "...Bret. He did come. I'll be back." Leaving Jamie, he exits the cubicle, aiming for his friend.

"I love you too." Bret leans in for a kiss, returning the squeeze to the hand. Scanning the floor, he can feel Charlotte's nervousness, and tries to overcome it with his own confidence, but little existed. Walking slowly, he's so unsure about all this. It felt like he was walking into a bear's den without having been invited.

Then he spots Con. A little relieved, he aims for him, his hand still in Charlotte's. "Con."

"Bret." Con gives a nod. "Charlotte." He offers her a small smile. "You two alright?"

Bret nods. "Yeah...we came straight here. Now what's going on?"

"They've got footage of your car fleeing the scene of the crime."

"But that's impossible."

"Well it's definitely your car, and it's definitely you behind the wheel."

Bret's voice is a strained whisper as he tries not to draw attention. "But Charlotte and I were in Vegas."

Distrusting, Con probes. "What were you doing there?"

Bret smirks in annoyance, then holds up his left hand.

Con's eyes widen. "You dog." He can't help the smile that spreads and he glances back to Charlotte. "I'd take the time to congratulate you two, but we gotta get this thing cleared up first. Come on. We'll go straight to Reese."

Bret swallows hard and his grip tightens around his wife's hand, but he follows his friend obediently.

Across the floor, down the aisle of cubicles and to the main office. Susanne was already gone for the night, and Reese's door was ajar. Con knocks, then sticks his head in. "Reese?"

"Yeah..." Reese answers absentmindedly as he goes over some paperwork, then realizes who the voice belongs to. Looking up quickly, he lifts his eyebrows. "Well Con. Hi."

"Hi. I got someone here who needs to talk." Con opens the door wider and ushers both Bret and Charlotte in."

Reese stands up from his desk. "Bret Parker. Charlotte. Con, you realize I have to place him under arrest."

"Just... wait a second, will you?" Con holds up his hand. "They have an alibi."

"But how?"

"I don't know."

"Well what's the alibi?"

Con points to the couple. "Elopement."

Reese's eyes widen and he looks to Charlotte. "Congratulations, but your sister is going to kill you."

Bret rolls his eyes. "We know. I just want to get this cleared up. I wasn't at the bank robbery. I knew about it, and I can give you more info on the other guys, but I wasn't there."

Fear flickers in Con's eyes for his friend. "Bret...even if we prove you weren't there... Do you realize that makes you an accomplice?"

Bret's face pales. He felt stupid. How had he not thought of that.

Con continues. "That makes you an accessory to armed robbery and murder."

Reese interrupts. "Maybe we can crack a deal. Information for freedom."

"Like last time?" Bret questions.

"It worked once before." Reese moves towards his phone. "But that's not for me to decide." Picking up the receiver, he dials Angelica's office phone. "Angelica... I need you in my office right away. Drop what you're doing, this is important." Hanging up, he studies the couple for a moment, and sighs. "You know if you weren't Con's friend, I'd have you to the station by now."

Bret swallows hard. "Then I guess I'm glad I got him on my side."

Flattery

*Dalton looks down at the dog that stood by Jason's side and than back up at him giving a small nod.*

"It's not a problem. I figured if he was going to attack me, he was going to and there was nothing I could do about it. But I new if I leveled with him he would at least leave me along for that moment and that would sustain him from attacking me."

*Turning back around Dalton goes to the filing cabnit and thumbs through some papers before finding the file he was looking for. Throwing it on the desk Dalton sits back down before looking up at Jason again giving a chuckle.*

"I don't have any doubt that I'm good at what I do so there should be no problem, and the only shoes I can fill are my own, and they are pretty big."

*Giving less than a wave Dalton looks down at the papers again anmd mumbles.*

"Later."

*Katie continues to type away on her computer as she can hear Domino playing on the floor. As Domino's soft whimpers can be heard the clicking of Katie's keybored stops and she turns to look at the small dog. Simpathy showing in her eyes. Domino and Scott had always been close the best of friends, and Domino new something was wrong and wondered where Scott was.

Leaning down Katie pats her lap gently calling for Domino to come join her. Once the small dog is in her lap and settled Katie pets her head gently. If anything it was nice to still have something of Scott close to her.*

"Hey there little Domino. It's gonna be ok, I miss him too."

*Misty looks up at the sound of Wyatt's voice and gives a smile.*

"Kyle turn down food I doubt that would happen as for me I'll be there too. I couldn't turn down a good time. Thanks for the invite Wyatt."

*Giving a smile Misty looks back at her paper work for a moment before getting her phone and dialing Kyles number.*

"Heya Babe, we were just invited for dinner at Mom and Pop's tonight. Wyatt said we had no choise in the matter. We HAD to go."

*Seeing Con sends an instint smile on Jamie's face as her cheeks start to turn a little red.*

"Flattery, flattery. You eather did something wrong, or just want to be super nice. I'll go with the being nice part."

*Standing Jamie goes over to Con and leans the opisite way on the wall bringing her lips to her for a moment as they continue in an exchange of a kiss. Pulling away she looks at Con and smile.*

"As for tonight at Mom and Pop's, I wouldn't miss a good time. Not to mention being able to see my parents again is always nice."

*Charlotte lets out her own sigh as she gets out of the car and walks over to Bret. Taking his hand in her she gives it a gentil squeeze and smiles.*

"I've been here once when I first came out with Angelica. I don't remember it to well but I think I know enough to get us inside."

*Starting forward Charlotte can't help but shake just a little geting close to the door and than inside. Heading to the elavator Bret and herself enter pushing the button for the bottom floor. As the bell dings Charlotte dosnt move. Glancing at Bret she whispers as she gives his hand a squeeze.*

"I love you!"

*Finally steping out of the door Charlotte scans the area at all the people where she was to go next she wasnt sure.*

Waiting

Jason accepts Dalton's handshake, able to almost look him straight in the eye. He was used to being around Con, so Dalton's comparable height didn't faze him.

Shaking his hand firmly, he nods. "That's me. I, um... heard Trooper greeted you this morning. Sorry about that. He takes his job pretty seriously."

As if on cue, the large dog exits Jason's office and trots down to join him. But instead of being in attack mode this time, he obediently goes to Jason's left side and sits down, looking up at his master for any instructions.

Jason simply rests a hand on his dog's head, signaling to do nothing but wait. Trooper obeys.

"Well, looks like you're getting settled in," Jason comments to Dalton. "I'll leave you at it. I, um...guess you got some pretty big shoes to fill around here, but... if you're good, I trust it won't take long."

A lump rises in his throat when thinking about Scott being replaced, but he forces it down. "Catch you later." He moves to leave, Trooper immediately at his heel.

Domino cuddles into Katie for her ride back to the cubicle, soaking in the attention. Once to Katie's desk, the little dog grabs her toy that Wyatt had brought for her, and starts throwing it around the cubicle to entertain herself. After a while though, she stops in the doorway, setting her toy down and looking down the row of cubicles toward the exit. She cocks her head and whines a little, as if expecting someone else to come. Sniffing the air, she comes up empty with who she's looking for, and whines again. Finally she slides down to lay on the floor, resting her head by her toy, while her eyes keep watch for her master that had disappeared.

Wyatt knocks on the infirmary door and enters, throwing a wave to Rick and Misty. "Mom and Pop's tonight at seven," he announces. "Rick, you and your wife are more than welcome to join us... and Misty, I'm banking on you coming along with that boyfriend of yours. And I won't take no for an answer. So... be there."

Con ambles down the row of cubicles, looking around the main floor, and giving a wave to his sister. It always felt a little strange to be here... but never was his presence questioned anymore. It was simply assumed he was here to see his wife. This evening, it was that, and another reason too.

"Hey, you." Con scoots into Jamie's cubicle behind her, to lean over her and give her a kiss. Straightening up, he rubs her shoulders for a moment. "Wyatt called me, said he's trying to get people together for supper in about an hour and a half at your folks'. Didn't think I should pass it up."

He grins and moves back so he can see Jamie's face and lean back against the wall. "Not to mention, seeing your smiling face is reason in itself to drop by." His mind was also wandering to the friend whose whereabouts were unknown at the moment.

Bret pulls into the TJY parking lot and takes a deep breath. It was five-thirty. Even so, it appeared most everyone was still at work. He didn't know if that was good or bad. "Well..." He looks over to Charlotte. "Here goes nothin'. I've never been in here before... you know your way around?"

Damage

*Hearing that there was a new guy to replace Scott gave a certin ping to Katie's heart but she new it is inevatable. They needed a new tech guy around the office and though it was not Scott, she new its what he wanted as well.

Looking to Wyatt Katie gives a soft smile her eyes showing she had overcome something though it still hurt. Giving a small nod she reply.*

"Yes I'd like that. Thank you for the invite Wyatt."

*Letting out a small sigh Katie bends down and picks up Domino nuzzaling her face into the small dogs fur for a moment and than looking to her cubicle. She could only imagen the paper work that had piled up. Turning back to Wyatt Katie gives a small wink.*

"Well I guess I should go see what damage I did from being away fast."

*Turning still holding Domino Katie walks back to her cubicle. Just like she had exspected papers were piled everywhere and files that needed to be looked at joined them. Letting out another sigh Katie makes her way over the mess and sits down in her chair pulling out a few papers maybe she could work on fast before there dinner date at Mom and Pop's.*

*Dalton looks up from his paper work hearing a voice and looks at Jason for a moment. A new face he hadnt seen, and he dident have to look quite as far down as he did with the others. It was intresting to have someone for once who always stood as tall as he did.*

"Thats what the door is going to say, and you must be..."

*Dalton thinks for a moment remembering the names, and the information he had gathered from the other Dalton trys to put a name with the face.*

"...Jason.."

*Dalton eyes Jason again before finally standing and offering his hand to him. Though he was still unsure of this place and all the people he might as well be civile he had to work with them after all.*

Welcome

Bret holds Charlotte's hand, quiet for a long while. He appreciated her so much... just her being here... her loyalty...

He squeezes her hand back. "I know." He lets out a long sigh. "I want to run too... I came close to prison once before on account of this stupid thing, and I don't want that happening. But..."

He turns his head to see Charlotte's eyes. "...you're right. We run now, there's no guarantee that I can clear my name. I owe Con for this one... I think he's right that I should go to TJY first. If we can slam 'em with proof before they take me in, maybe I've got a chance."

Lifting Charlotte's hand to give it a kiss, he lets her go, to put the car back in gear. "Alright...let's go."

Jason shakes his head, still bewildered. "I don't know... It was going to cost a lot to get this thing fixed - I don't think any of the guys could afford it, and if they managed it, then they better be prepared for my wrath, 'cause they shouldn't have."

A smile spreads despite the sternness in his tone. "Kinda nice knowing I got it back though...now that I can ride it again." Shaking his head, he goes to his small garage to open the door. "If it's nice weather tomorrow, maybe you and I will have to go for a ride."

He looks over his shoulder to throw Katie a wink.

Too soon, they're back in the truck and heading for TJY. Parking in the lot, Jason sighs turns off the engine and sighs. "Well...we're here. I see Reese's car. Prepare for an ear full."

Getting out, they head to the door, Jason leading the way, holding the doors open for Katie. Once inside, down, and entering the main floor, a sharp bark can be heard, and a black and white furball comes racing down between the cubicles, her nails clicking on the tiles.

Jason lifts his eyebrows. "Well hello, Domino."

The little dog tries to stop, but slides, running into Katie's feet. She puts her paws up on Katie's legs, her whole body wiggling as she searches for Katie's hand to lick.

Jason grins. "Looks like someone missed you."

"That's putting it mildly." Wyatt comes around the corner shaking his head. "You know...I used to like watching Domino. She's well behaved...quiet... doesn't require much. But this afternoon I got a phonecall from Ty, who was trying to sleep after a hard night at work. He informed me that this little girl was sitting at the door howling her head off. Naturally, I had to go get her so Ty could get some sleep, so she's been keeping me company the rest of the time."

He shakes his head, though finds it a little humorous. "Welcome back, Katie. She's all yours."

Jason chuckles. "Yeah, good to see you too, Wyatt. Thanks for the welcome."

"Don't start," Wyatt warns. "Your dog just about took our new guy's head off this morning. I suggest you go get him from your office and give him a talking to."

"New guy?"

"Yeah, the guy replacing..." Wyatt stops, glances at Katie, then back to Jason to finish. "...Scott."

"Oh." Jason is quiet for a moment. "That's right. I knew someone was coming. Well... alright, I'll take care of Trooper. Thanks for watching him."

"Sure, sure, no problem." Wyatt rolls his eyes. "Next time have Con watch him."

"What? And take all that fun away from you?" Jason teases. He pats Wyatt's arm. "Stop complaining - you look like your dad."

Wyatt shakes his head as Jason walks away, smirking, but his eyes twinkling. "Hey, don't go too far," he calls after him. "Gang night at Mom and Pop's... seven o'clock. You better be there!" He grins, then looks back at Katie, a little more gently, just studying her face for a moment. "Good to have you back, Hero. Join us tonight?"

Jason makes his way down the hall, and after stopping in to check on Trooper, who was perfectly behaved, he aims for t he no-longer-empty office. Seeing the door halfway open, he pokes his head in, spying Dalton behind the desk.

Overcoming the awkwardness he felt from seeing someone other than Scott behind the desk, he leans on the doorway. "Dalton, I presume?"

Stand by your side

*Charlotte looks to Bret as he talks on the phone. Her worry from the one sided conversation growing. She wasnt sure what was going on but whatever it was it didnt sound good.

Once Bret is off the phone Charlotte turns to him her eyes scanning his own.*

"What, we have proof you wernt there. You were getting married after all. They can't do this."

*The worry courses through Charlotte as her stomach tights into knots. What if they DIDNT believe them. Would Charlotte be losing her husband already after such short of a time.*

"I wan't to say run, with all my heart I wanna flip this coin and I wanna take off with you. But if we do that how long will we have to run and will it make it harder for us to prove your innocent?!"

*Charlotte reaches out to take Bret's hand in her own. Running her thumb across it as she looks down at it. She never worryed much and always played things by ear but for once Charlotte was worryed, and she was looking into the future on what would happen.*

"Maybe going to Angelica is the best thing. She helped you before, and I am pretty sure she will believe us. She's not going to be happy but if we can get her to keep quiet long enough we can explain things."

*Charlotte lets out a long sigh and leans her head back aganst the car seat.*

"No matter what happend Bret I'll be here. I'm your wife now, I wont leave you high and dry. We go through this together."

*Charlotte gives Bret's hand a gentil aqueeze to let him know she was there and she would never leave him. If he even needed someone now was the time and Charlotte was confadent enough to stand next to him through thick and thin.*

*Katie's own eyes widen just a little as she looks at the new cleaned up bike in Jason's driveway. Getting out along with Jason Katie gives a small head shake.*

"I..have no idea on this one. As far at I new it was still at Mike's too."

*Katie runs her fingers over the bike and than back to Jason.*

"Maybe one of the guys did it for you?"

10/3/08

Fixed

Jason rests his own head against Katie's, and settles in for the flight home. It would be soon enough that everyday crazies were back... he wasn't looking forward to getting back to work, and enjoying this quiet time now was nice.

Carson gives a wave and smile to Jess as she leaves. "Yeah - milkshakes it is. Later." Watching her leave for a moment, he glances to Aerith and tosses her a wink. "Jess needs friends...thanks for being one."

Remembering the menu he was supposed to be working on, he turns to head back into the kitchen. Passing Mabel on his way, he grins. "We won't forget the pumpkin pie."

Heading down the road, the radio is loud, the sunroof open, even though it's chilly. The scenery flies by as the black Corvette heads away from Vegas.

Bret taps his fingers on the steering wheel, looking through his sunglasses at the long road ahead. Looking in the rearview mirror though, he frowns a little, then glances at his speed. "Okay, so I was going a little fast, but that cop back there has been tailing us for ages now."

He throws Charlotte a teasing grin. "You did get rid of that body from the trunk, didn't you?"

A few more miles, and surprisingly, the police cruiser passes them, speeding ahead of them down the highway.

"Mm-hmm..." Con cradles the phone on his shoulder as he warms up his lunch in the microwave. "So they called off the cops? Why?"

"They wanted to see if he went anywhere other than home. There's going to be someone waiting for him though once he gets there."

Con frowns at Reese's serious tone. "This isn't good, is it?"

"Nope."

"Well...I'm glad I called. Thanks for telling me. I know it's private information."

"Ah, well...I trust you, and I know you're Bret's friend."

"So what's he looking at?"

"Armed robbery and murder."

"I just can't think he was involved."

"I guess we'll have to see what he says about it. I've given orders to take him downtown to the station once they have him. Even though it's TJY's case, I figure the jail is a better place to handle this to keep everything in the open."

"Yeah...I suppose..." The microwave beeps and Con finishes getting his meal. "Alright. Well, thanks. I'll talk to you later." Ending the call, he stares at his warmed up leftovers, deep in thought. He just could't believe Bret had done anything like this...he'd worked with him... been his friend... sure, Bret had a record, but...

Con shakes his head. What he was about to do was totally out of line. But he didn't want fear to cause a ruckus one Bret got back... and if this could be approached the right way...

Bret's cell phone rings, and he rolls his eyes. He'd ignored all incoming calls the last couple days, but now figured he could start taking them again. He was on his way home, so it didn't matter all that much.

Reaching into the backseat, he grabs his phone to answer it, keeping one hand on the wheel. "Yeah, hello." He smile. "Hey, Con, what's up? Me? Oh, just been out of town." He winks at Charlotte. "Naw, I'm on my way back now, actually, I... what's that?"

Bret's tone suddenly changes as his face pales slightly. "Whoa, whoa, hang on a minute..." Concentrating on his driving, Bret pulls off onto the shoulder and puts his car in park. "What was that? ...But I... No, you gotta believe me." His eyes widen. "Honest, I was out of town. Yeah... Yeah, I do have someone who could testify to that." He glances at Charlotte again. "She's sitting right here. Yeah...Charlotte...I.... No, it's not..." He rolls his eyes. "Long story. Look, are you sure? Well what do I do? I can't... Oh... Well.... But what if...." He taps his fingers on the steering wheel as his nervousness grows. "No, I don't. .....No, Con... I'm telling the truth. I wasn't there. Yeah... Okay, I guess.... I'll decide..." He shrugs lamely. "Appreciate it. Okay. Bye."

Flipping his phone shut, he just sits for a moment, stunned, before looking at Charlotte again. Worry coursed through his eyes. "The police are waiting for me at hom. There's a warrent out for my arrest for armed robbery and murder... They say they have proof that I was there."

He swallows hard and looks out at the road again. He had a choice.... "Con says we should go straight to TJY since your sister's boss is handling the case, rather than going and getting arrested. Turn myself in, basically, to try to prove my innocence." The other choice was to turn south and keep on going.

Bret catches Charlotte's eyes. "What if they don't believe us? What if they try to put me away?"

Getting from the airport, Jason's truck is waiting, where Con had been good enough to park it for him. Deciding to slip by his place first, Jason drives home to drop off his bag before heading to TJY. It was early evening... early enough people would still be at TJY, and late enough that supper wouldn't be too much of a wait.

Turning into his driveway, Jason's eyes widen. Parking, he points. His motorcycle was parked by his house, gleaming in the setting sun, in new-looking condition. "What on earth..."

Getting out to take a closer look, sure enough, his bike had been completely fixed, washed, and even gased up. "Who..." Jason looks back to Katie, confused. "This has been sitting at Mike's since I wrecked it. You don't know who would have taken it to the shop, do you?"

I'd rather

*Watching Wyatt and Trooper leave for a moment Dalton stands up again leting out a long sigh. On he outside his arrogance and cockiness was there and he new it, but on the inside he was just nervouse himself. Being somewhere new, it wasnt often people got use to him. His size made it hard and people always staired. Would it be differnt here or would it just be the same old same old.

Turning Dalton plays around with the masheen again for a moment till finally he gives it a wack and his Jerky falls out. Taking that and his moutain dew Dalton heads back to his office and continues to look through files and paper work geting use to everything in this new place.*

*Jess can't help but giggle as she leans on the counter her eyes meeting Carsons.*

"Well I was thinking about it, but since you asked nicly I guess I can stop by and pick you up. Bring some milkshakes?"

*Standing Jess gathers her things and leans the money on the counter for her coffee. Throwing a wave to Aerith.*

"Once I am settled in my new place I will have to have you and Wyatt come over. I know you alot now but I know nothing about him."

*Aerith gives a smile and throws a wave to Jess.*

"Her sounds like a plan to me. If food is involved I dont think Wyatt will mind."

*Jess gives a nod. It was nice having a few new friends and Aerith had been the first besides Carson. She was nice and Jess liked talking to her. Looking back to Carson Jess brings a hans to his face and runs it over his cheek ending at his chin.*

"I'll see you later Hun."

*Turning Jess exits Mom and Pop's to head home and finish the packing she had to do.*

*Charlotte cant help but give a laugh at Bret. Finally stepping away she grabs her own bag and heads for the door.*

"Ok that sounds good to me. I'll only need a few few things, and a lot of the stuff at my apartment can go to the salvation army or whatever because you have alot of what I have already. Maybe you can come over with me and help me decied what to take and what not to. Like I dont know if you would like my coutch better than yours so on and so forth. All in all though I really don't have much."

*As Charlotte heads down the hall with Bret a suddin nearousness enters her stomach. It was strange almost like something was wrong. Figuring it was just the fact of telling her sister what was up Charlotte shruges it off. Linking her arm with Bret's.*

"I dont need a coin to tell me, I would rather die tomarrow than today."

*Turning and looking at Jason Katie smiles. She felt so much better now, her heart still acked for the loss of Scott but now she was able to deal with it and new she could face work. He was in a better place now and she would see him again sometime. Also, now having Jason again made things a little better too. It was nice not to have to hide her feelings and it was a good feeling to have it returned again. It made Katie feel good inside.

No, thank you for coming to get me, this time I think you were the Hero.

Katie leans her head on Jason's shoulder and closes her eyes. She wan't tired, but she was comfortable enough to fall asleep.*

Trooper

Trooper continues to growl, shifting his head warily as Dalton lowers himself to a knee.

"Trooper, come on," Wyatt begs.

Staring at Dalton for several tense moments, the massive dog finally stops showing his teeth, even though the low rumblings still come from his throat. Eventually, he takes a couple more cautious steps forward, sniffing the air until his nose is almost touching the outstretched hand. Giving one last short woof as if to say "I got my eye on you," Trooper turns around and trots back over to Wyatt, looking up at him to signal that he was now ready to go outside.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Wyatt grumbles as he latches the leash onto Troopers collar. "You stupid..." Looking up at Dalton, he apologizes. "Sorry about that. This is Jason's mutt. Well...I guess technically it's TJY's, but Jason is the only one Trooper ever listens to."

As if to prove the point, Trooper tugs on the leash, making Wyatt stumble. "Somehow I got cursed with being the first one called when Jason is out of town, to take care of this dang brute. We get along as long as it's Trooper's idea." Wyatt shakes his head. "If Jason is gone for a length of time, we seem to work most of our differences out, but the first few miles are torture."

He yanks on the leash again, trying to get Trooper to sit down. "Anyway...you should be alright now that he's seen you."

"Mmm..." Carson grins. "I'd love to have the first meal in your new place with you. I doubt it would take too much convincing to get Herb to let me off early even though I was late this morning. Just swing by here later and if I can, I'll go back with you." He gives Jess a sly look. "Unless you're planning on making me walk."

Bret's eyes shine as he returns Charlotte's kiss, wrapping his arms around her. "I think it was worth it too." His voice grows quiet. "And it's only just begun."

Just looking at his bride for several minutes, he finally lets her go. "Alright then. Let's hit the road. I vote we grab lunch on the way back... then we split up at my place so you can go get at least a few things to survive a night or two until you can move, while I make sure no one's been stupid enough to do anything to the house while I've been gone, and..."

Slinging his bag over his shoulder, Bret stops, rolling his eyes. "And after that it's a coin toss when to pay your sister a visit." He grins. "Tonight may or may not be a good night to die."

Jason stares out the window of the plane, watching the clouds go by. He owed Con a thanks for this one... the trip had changed everything... and the future was looking just a little bit brighter now.

He turns his head to look at Katie, just letting his eyes rest on her face. Thanks for everything, Hero...

First Meal

* Dalton fidgets with the mashean. He is suddenly put on alart as he hears Wyatt's voice in a state of frustration and even a little bit of panic. As His back is still turn to the door he suddenly can hear the growls. Slowly turning around Dalton eyes the large dog for a moment.

Seeing Wyatt come up to the dog and not obayng his orders one could observe this was not his dog. But still the dog meant business and would protect those in the building.

Moving slowly Dalton lowers to one knee and bends over just slightly so that he he is about eye level with the dog. For a moment he looks Trooper in the eyes trys to prove he was not a threat. Not moving to fast as to startle the dog Dalton holds out his hand as an offer for the dog to sniff his hand.*

"I was told to look out for the watch dog. You must be him huh?"

*Dalton stays still with his hand out to Trooper but still keeps his gurad up just in case the dog still did not like him.*

*Jess receives the kiss from Carson with a smile on her face. Over the last few days they had spent a decint amount of time together like normal and when Jess was not at work, or with Carson she was busy packing. Now finally the day had come and she would move.

Pulling away from Carson Jess can't help but smile even more. Life seemed good and was slowly getting better. Is was nice to have things go in the right direction for once.*

"Well, I didn't know if you could get off work early tonight and help me move into my new place. If not its not big deal I just could use the help and I wanted you to have the first meal there with me."

*Putting her bag on the ground for a moment Charlotte comes up behind Bret and wraps her amrs around his wast. It hadn't been to long yet but so far she was loved being Ms. Charlotte Parker. It gave her an unending happyness she had never felt before. Continuing to hold Bret Charlotte gives a small chuckle.*

"She is going to kill us you know that? Picturing her face in my head right now is kind of funny."

*Charlotte lets go of Bret and walks around so she is standing in front of him putting her arms around his neck and pulling him a little bit closer Charlotte brings her lips to his for a moment and than once again draws away still holding on to him.*

"No matter what she says it was worth it and I know I made the right desition."

Guard dog

Wyatt opens his mouth to say something else, but stops, just watching Dalton walk away. Well, that had been...a little awkward. He lifts his eyebrows at the reason for Dalton's leaving. What was it with tech guys anyway?

He gives a little sigh. Well...maybe inviting Dalton to hang out at supper hadn't been the greatest idea, but he hadn't been able to come up with anything else. If Dalton wasn't a people person, Wyatt didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable... It was different though... such a contrast to Scott...

He shakes his head and turns to leave the office. He needed to quit comparing Dalton to Scott. Walking down the hall, he hollers over his shoulder. "If the machine doesn't work, just give it a whack - usually does the trick."

A low bark from Jason's office interrupts his train of thought. Oh yeah...he'd forgotten. Con had told him Trooper was here and needed to be looked after.

Sighing, Wyatt goes to Jason's door and is sure to speak before opening it. "Hey, buddy, it's just me...coming in now..." He opens the door cautiously, seeing the massive dog look at him with distrust before sniffing the air, then deciding Wyatt was a friend not foe.

Wyatt lets out a breath of relief. He'd taken care of Trooper at his own house, he'd watched him for quite the length of time, and often whenever Jason was gone... But he and the dog never could seem to get along all that well. And whenever Jason had been around, once it was just Wyatt and Trooper again, the dog seemed to have to get to know him all over again, starting with distrust, and working his way up to plain disobedient. He wasn't mean, and didn't threaten Wyatt, but if caught off guard, especially by anyone going into Jason's office, Trooper was unpredictable.

"Alright, big guy. Where's your leash? Con said it was..."

Trooper has no intention of waiting and bolts.

"Trooper! Heel!"

No use. The dog paid no mind to Wyatt. But instead of going for the exit, he lumbered down the hall toward the breakroom, and the sound of someone he considered to be an intruder. Stopping in the doorway, the fur on the back of his neck bristles, and his lips raise to show his teeth as a low growl comes out. He eyes Dalton with suspicion, and takes a protective stance.

"Trooper, no! Back off!" Wyatt jogs up to him, just to be snapped at when getting too close. Jerking back, Wyatt scowls. "Mutt, this is the last time, or so help me, I'll shoot you myself. Back off!"

Trooper licks his chops and backs up a step, but continues to growl with no intention of stopping.

Wyatt reaches for his collar, but the dog snaps as him again, warning him not to touch him. Wyatt was irritated and just a little scared. His words are spoken in annoyance through his teeth. "Jason, you are dead." He tries again. "Trooper. Heel."

Instead, Trooper takes several steps into the breakroom, his head lowered as he continues to growl and make his way toward Dalton.

Carson can tell Herb isn't a hundred percent satisfied with his response, but is grateful for the change in topics. He grins at the mention of the sauce for the chicken and shrugs. "Maybe I added a little something extra."

Hearing Herb mention not being afraid of Mable, Carson's eyebrows raise. "I thought..." He jumps as Mable interrupts them, and offers her a little wave of innocence. "Pumpkin pie... got it." He gives a thumbs up.

At knowing Jess was there, he nods, and rises from his seat. "I'll be right back," he informs Herb. Heading through the double doors, he comes out to greet Jess with a kiss. "Hey, babe. Only got a minute. I got a late start this morning. How ya doing?"

Bret sighs as he zips up his duffel bag and scans the hotel bedroom one last time. "Looks like I got everything... though I could stay here another week."

He turns to throw Charlotte a grin. "I guess going home is inevitable though isn't it." His eyes widen slightly. "And I suppose we need to come up with some smooth plan of telling your sister just what we've, um, been up to." His grin turns sheepish, though his eyes dance, signaling that he thought it was downright fun to have eloped, leaving Angelica in the dark.

Pumpkin Pie

*Looking at Wyatt for a long moment Dalton just studys his as his brain moves a million miles a minute trying to process and read him. What was his motive for going out to dinner or was it just his own mind that kept playing games and reading into things to much.*

"Ya I think I can manage to find some time to do dinner. Though I am not much of a people person."

*Dalton stands and makes his way to the door towering over Wyatt. Ducking to exit He turns back around.*

"If you need anything I'll be back I just saw there was beef jerky in the vending mashean and Mountain dew. I better get some to help me think than I can start."

*Turning Dalton heads to the breakroom.*

*Just looking at Carson for a long moment Herb says nothing. You could lead a horse to water but you cant make them drink. The more you try and force them the more they wont. The same was with Carson. Herb could push all he wanted but that wouldnt make Carson tell what he was doing. Eventuly it would just drive him away. Finally giving a nod Herb talks.*

"Ok, I believe you. If you need to talk about anything, anything at all. I'm here for you Carson."

*Leaning over a little bit Herb looks down at the paper where Carson was writing.*

"Yeah everyone loved the chicken parm. Since you came they say the sause tasts even better. I dont know if you add some extra stuff to it, or if its just a knack you have but you do good. Oh, and Mable said we had to add pumpkin pie to the list or she will have our heads."

*Herb can't help a small cheese grin that pass his face as he leans a little closer to Carson.*

"Personaly I'm not scaired of her."

*As if hearing everything Mable pokes her head into the kitchen.*

"HERB..."

*Herbs eyes go wide as he gives a little jump not exspecting Mable to be right there.*

"Yes dear?"

*Mable can't help the smile as the sounds of Aerith and Jess giggles come from the other room both peeking there heads over the counter window.*

"First, Did you tell Carson to put pumpkin pie on the menu?"

*Herb looks to Carson and shakes his head a little and than looks back to Mable.*

"Yes dear."

*Mable smiles.*

"Good, and Second, Carson Jess is here to see you."

*Mable stratens and turns around leaving the kitchen.*

Not saying

“Yeah…it’ll just take time,” Wyatt agrees. “We’re not that bad of a bunch once you get used to us.” He smiles a little, trying to overcome his own discomfort. “Say, um… I don’t know what any of your plans are, but there’s a little family Italian place downtown that we all like to hang out at… maybe some of us can get together for supper or something… kinda get to know each other a little better.”

Carson’s eyes stayed glued to the table as Herb gently confronts him. He wanted to get upset, but knew he had no right to. He’d asked Herb from the get-go to keep an eye on him, and he was doing just that. Carson couldn’t retaliate, nor could he deny that he’d just told a lie to someone who’d been trying to help him change.

He fidgets with his pen in his hand, weighing his options. Finally he answers, though his eyes are still down. “I…I’ve just had a few delays on my jogging route, that’s all.”

A bit of heat returns to his face. “It just…um… it’s kinda stuff I wanted to do, that’s all.” He shrugs.

Eventually, Carson glances up to look Herb in the eye. “I haven’t had a drop of liquor.”
