Distraction

Eli shakes his head. "You know me. I like anything but anchovies." Leaning over a little, he positions himself in the corner of the couch where he could be comfortable.

He sees Leo looking at him, and he gives him a wry grin. "I don't look half as bad as you did, bud. And I've had worse. Just go get the pizza."

Leo chuckles and goes to put the first aid supplies away, coming back to leave with Ryan. Once alone in the car, he glances to Ryan. "You're brother's a brave man. I wish I had the strength to do what he did. All I wound up doing was making an idiot of myself. Eli... you can bet he can walk down to that raceway any time he wants, and he'll have respect."

Alone in the living room, when Eli is quite sure Leo and Ryan are gone, he fishes for his cell phone, wincing a little as he moves too fast. Scrolling through names, he finally finds the one he wants. "Hey, Chris. Yeah, it's Eli.... Oh, fine. Look, I just wondered if Jackson was true to his word." He lets out a long sigh to the answer. "I was afraid of that.... No... I wouldn't have changed it. I asked, he said no, so it was a risk and I lost out. ....Nah, I'll be alright. Hey, have Billy go check my apartment though, would you? I had that leak before I left and I don't want water all over the place.... yeah. Okay, thanks.... No, don't know now, but I'll let you know. Alright. Yeah. Later."

Jade doesn't move as Dan joins her. She was used to his company now, and enjoyed it. Her gaze joins his to the sky. "Mmm... you know how it is around here... not much more than a dusting a few times during the season. I really don't like it though." She laughs. "I never wanted to go where they get a foot or two of snow at once. It seems way too cold to me."

Sighing, she lets herself lean over, her head resting on Dan's shoulder. Though she hadn't spoken of it much, she really was worried about her brother. She just hadn't wanted to think about it, for fear of worrying more or making things worse. "They're gonna find Dylan... aren't they?"

All Wyatt has time for is to smirk at Katie before making contact with Mick. When their conversation ends though, he sits back in his chair, quirking an eyebrow. "No, Missy, I told Aerith I wouldn't be able to call her 'til the job was done. And besides, I'm not grumpy, I'm just hungry."

Jason leans back against the wall. "Hmm... well, we could always call for a pizza." A sharp pain through his temple makes him wince and he puts a hand to his forehead. "Um... or there's other stuff down the street as long as one of us is here at all times."

Band practice was over, and everyone was back at the Wiley's. They'd practiced at Theo's, as they were used to, though it was the first time with Kyle. Theo's apartment was a nice one, in a good area of town, though it was nothing like the Wiley mansion. It was explained to Kyle and Alice that though there was plenty of room at Erik's, it was nice to be somewhere else, and out in Theo's roomy garage, they didn't bother anyone. It was "their" space. Practice had gone well.Kyle and the others blended so well, one would think they'd been together for a long time, not just a few days. That in itself convinced anyone that they were on the right path, and it made Kyle happy to know that maybe he was going in the right direction, that maybe God really did have a bigger plan in mind.

"Whoa whoa, you what?" Erik stares at Kip as the group gathers in the back sunroom, awaiting the subs for supper.

"I... invited Karla." Kip shrugs. "Figured it was no big deal so I-"

Erik puts his hands on his hips, frowning. "You what? Went after someone else?"

Kip looks down at the floor, his face reddening. "She's nice and could use-"

"Come here." Erik stands up to leave the room, pulling Kip along with him.

Kyle lifts an eyebrow and looks to the others for any explanation.

Twila purses her lips. "Kip... has a habit of..." She searches for the right words.

"Picking up strays," Russ finishes.

"Russ!" Twila reprimands. "That's not very nice."

Russ chuckles. "Sorry." He looks back to Alice and Kyle. "What Twila was trying to say is that Kip often gets involved with people he shouldn't. And him not knowing this girl... Erik's automatically leery."

Out in the hall, Erik lays into Kip, their voices heard in the room, even though the door was partway shut.

"So Whitney got fed up and you found someone else?"

"This has nothing to do with that," Kip defends.

"First Breanna, then Whitney... they've all gotten you in trouble. What is it you need, huh? Why do you insist on needing their attention?"

Kip's face was still red. "This is different. Karla could use friends and... and I don't know, I just thought it was a good idea."

"You were already at her place almost all day - you sure you were just playing video games?"

"Yes! Don't you trust me?"

Erik folds his arms. "After catching you and Whitney-"

"Nothing happened!"

"Only because you got caught!"

Kip throws up his arms. "Are you always going to remind me of that? Can't I make a new friend? Can't I have someone over to dinner?"

Erik's face remains stern. He knew Kip often brought distractions into his life so he wouldn't have to focus on the bad that went on in the background. Everyone did that to a certain degree, but sometime Kip needed to stop and face his problems instead of ignoring them. And so far, he was still latching on to young women who made him feel important, just to take advantage of him until he got into enough trouble to let them go. Whitney had been the worst, until the Wiley's had banned her from the property. Even then, Kip somehow couldn't say no to her. And now he'd found someone else? Erik sighs deeply, his tone growing more gentle. "No, that's not what I mean. I just... I hope Karla is different. Because if she's not, we'll have a problem."

"I know. But she is. I just want to help her."

"Help her?"

"She's got a crappy little apartment with no heat and she's out of work right now and... I figured we got enough to at least share our supper."

It was another distraction and Erik knew it. But Kip's intentions were pure. "Alright. You know most anyone is welcome here, and it's your home too. It's fine you invited her over. Just keep clean okay?"

"Of course."

The doorbell rings and Kip is quick to leave Erik. "I'll get it!" He jogs to the front door, opening it up to grin at Karla. "Hey! Come on in." He looks at Rin and chuckles, giving the dog a scrath behind the ears. "Nice bandanna."

Leading the way back to the room, the subs had just come and Twila was finding a movie to watch. "Can we go into the other room?" she suggests.

"Ooh, yeah." Theo nods. "Food. Movie. What could be better? I..." His voice trails off as he sees Karla. "Well, hi there."

Kip brings her in and makes a quick job of introductions.

"Okay, grab a sub and something to drink," Erik directs. "Twila, you got the movie?"

Kip looks to Karla, smiling. "The settle down after a while."

Hours

Going to reply to Jason Katie is intrupted by Wyatt. Rolling her eyes and shaking her head Katie slaps Jason's arm.

Dont give me that look I am not the one who TRIED to change the subject. We will talk about it later, because to be honest I am not sure.

Moving closer to where Wyatt was Katie sinks down in one of the chairs with her note pad at the ready to write down anything and everything she could that would help.

Looking up at Wyatt Katie smirks.

"Don't be grumpy Wy, I know your away from Aerith and all but you will be ok for a few days. Anyways how can you yell at us when you know you will be one the phone with her for hours later."

Finishing his chores Dan comes around the corner only to see the all to familiar form on the hay bale. Just standing for a moment in the far shadow of the barn Dan wanted to go to her and sit, but new he shouldn't. But if Jade was out here again so that must mean Mick was busy, and if he was busy than he wouldn't be out anytime soon.

Slowly making his way over to the bail Dan sinks down next to Jade leaning against the barn and looking up at the night sky.

"Its going to snow soon. I think I am kind of looking forward to it. What about you? Do you like snow?"

Once Kip was gone Karla looks down at her dog and gave a grin patting him on the head. It felt good, to have a friend.

"Looks like we made a new friend huh?"

Going to the kitchen she preparing Rin's food Karla puts it down for him. She had about an hour and a half before she needed to leave that would give her enough time to take a shower get dressed and walk back over to Kip's house.

...time seemed to go by in the snap of the fingers and by time Karla and Rin got out of the house and to Kips they were fifteen minutes late. Wearing the best pare of blue jeans she owned and a nice black t-shirt Karla mader her way up to the door. Rin having his own little hanker chef on.

Knocking on the door Karla waited, a little nervous but excited at the same time.

Getting home and helping Eli inside Ryan left Leo with him for a moment as she went to get a large bowl, water, some cloths and the iodine. Also ice, and a wrap for his hand.

"Ok, lets see how good we can make you feel."

Handing the iodin to Leo so he can clean the cuts Ryan whipes the try blood from her brother's face an ice pack on his hand. It dosnt take long to have all the wounds dressed, and his hand wrapped for now. Ryan was sure Eli would be in a lot of pain still but at least he was clean, and no worrys of infections for now.

"Now, what about pizza and a movie. I am starving. Want anything special on your pizza bro?"

Mirror

Jade grins a little but doesn't look up. "Thanks. I'll try." Moving towards the dining hall, she turns for just a moment to throw Dan a smile before spinning back around and continuing her route.

Jason sighs about Kyle. "Yeah but... I don't know. I wish he'd at least stay in touch... and he could search the rest of his life. I don't understand why he's pulled away from everyone, especially his family. I..." His voice trail off suddenly and he looks down at Katie. "Hey... how did you know we were talking about that?" He knew he had not intentionally fed that information to her.

"You guys gonna talk all night?"Wyatt interrupts. "Or are we going to contact Mick like we're supposed to?"

Jason smirks at him and lets Katie go. "Yeah, yeah. Come on, let's get set up." He still throws her a glance, warning that he wasn't done with this conversation.

Mick paces in the quiet dining hall after supper and after getting BJ tucked into bed. The police had no leads, so now he was counting on the small Elite team to help.

"Hey, Mick, you around?"

Mick jumps, sliding back to the chair in front of the computers and headset. He quickly dons the mic. "Wyatt?"

"You're good."

Mick chuckles. "No, I just knew that wasn't Jason's voice."

It's Wyatt's turn to laugh. "Hang on a sec." He flips a few switches and turns on the tiny camera that someone would wear when they went out. "What do you think of our room?"

Mick looks to one of the monitors and sees the hotel room, and Jason and Katie off to the side. "Looks cozy."

Wyatt gives a whoop. "Scott's a genius. Any news for us?"

"Nope. Talked to the police and Dylan's mother. Both had nothing to say. They still don't want me involved - think I'll make things worse. But I think they were telling the truth about no new news."

"That's what we've heard too. We got the info on where the cops have been searching, so at least we won't be doubling up and wasting our time once we get out there."

"When will that be?"

"When we get the word from the boss. Until then, we sit tight and play tidlywinks."

Mick grins and starts to answer when Jade catches the corner of his eye. He waves her still, to let her know that now wasn't a good time, and shakes his head.

"You still there?"

"Yeah, sorry."

Jade's shoulders drop. She was glad her dad was in contact with the Elite, but now she still couldn't talk to him.Turning around, she goes back out into the chilly night, wandering to the familiar hay bale at the barn. Sitting down, she just looks up at the starry sky, wishing she didn't feel so alone.

Kip puts his hands on his hips. "How can it be imposing when I asked you to come? Be there. No one will mind."

Heading to the door, he gives a final wave to Karla, then to Rin too, with a silly grin. "See you both later then."

Eli sees his sister in the mirror, and he knows that she just wants to help. He was the leader - the big brother - but he also knew that sometimes he needed help too. "Yeah, okay," he relents. "Just take it easy on me."

Getting back to the house, Eli is slow to get inside, now realizing how sore he was going to be. Gingerly taking off his jacke, he eases down on the couch, giving Ryan enough room to clean him up.

Your sure?

Ryan gives a shake of her head slouching down a little to see my brothers eyes in the side mirror. She couldn't never repay him for what he did, and those cuts he came were because he was defending her honer. Ryan could only hope to repay that to Eli one day.

"Its the least I can do to repay you Eli. Please let us?"

Flashing her brother a smile there was so much emotion in Ryan's eyes. It was strange feeling so many things at once, but in a way it was kind of nice to just feel again!

Thinking for a moment Karla laughed to herself. Why was she thinking about it? Its not like she had a big meal of her own to eat and the food she did have would probably leave her still hungry afterward. But at the same time she didnt want to jump all over it. Kip seemed real nice, but she was still feeling them out and that last thing she wanted was to make him think she was using him for money.

"Six o'clock that will give me time to clean myself up a little bit since at the moment I am in my dirty running cloths. Are you sure your other friends wont mind? I don't want to impose!"

Karla smiled at Kip, she just wanted to make sure it was ok. It wasn't every day someone invited her for breakfast, spend the whole day with her and than asked her to dinner. Not anyone good anyways. Karla was almost scaired that it was to good to be true that this day actully happened.

Feeling Jason's arm around her a smile spread on Katie's face. Behind semi alone in a hotel seemed to bring back memories for Katie when her and Jason had yet to hook up but the chemistry was there. It was a good memorie or so Katie though thats when had first relized there powers and the connection to each other. My how far they had come, from than to now.

Just leaning into Jason something strange happened. It was almost like the phone was put up to her ear and not Jason's. She could hear the conversation almost as clear as day. But that was crazy right? It never had happend before Maybe Jason's phone was turned up to high.

Shrugging it off and waiting for Jason to get off the phone Katie leans into him again leaning her head on his shoulder.

"Yeah, they worry about us more than Reese I think sometimes."

Not even really thinking about it Katie just speaks whats on the top of her mind about what Phile said about Jen. Jen was one of her best friends and she worryed about her too sometimes.

"Next time you talk to Phil tell him to tell Jen, not to give up on Kyle yet. He just...needs to find what he is looking for."

Hearing Jade Dan steps out of the shall behind Jade. Letting out a low sigh. It was hard to keep his distance from her. The had formed a friendship and now being told to stay away for a reason Dan didn't even know was hard.

Gently resting a hand on Jade's shoulder Dan is quiet for a moment. Looking out and over to the dinning hall himself he could see the shadows behind the drawn shade moving slowly.

Looking down at Jade and giving a soft smile he whispers.

"Stay calm, and choose your words. No matter what it will be ok."

Another change

Kip cocks his head. "Then before I go, tell me that you'll come over for supper. Six o'clock. The band's just having a real casual supper of subs after practice, and now you know where the house is so... would you? Rin can come back too."

Gunner lets himself into his dark, quiet apartment. It felt too dark... too quiet. After such a fun evening with JT and Bree, this just felt... empty. He'd never felt as though he didn't want to be alone before... he'd never craved company... But maybe this whole thing had changed him more than he'd thought.

A while later as he lay in bed, he stares up at the ceiling, trying to fall asleep. But the struggle would continue longer than anticipated. And in the morning, he would find he'd received less than an hour's sleep.

Eli accepts the cloth and presses it to the side of his head. "Should I be scared with you two in charge?"

Leo grins. "Nah. We won't be too rough with you."

"Oh, thanks." Eli winces as he finds another cut. "I think you two should go get the food and let me clean myself up."

"So practice went well?" Jason held his cell phone to his ear, leaning on the doorway between the two hotel rooms - one for him and Wyatt, and the other for Katie. He'd gotten a call from Phil before setting things up, and was sorry he was missing out on band activity.

"Yeah, yeah, we're good."

"Good. Forgot to ask you the other day if you'd heard from Kyle."

"Nope. Not a word in over a month. Jen's not taking it well, but she finally gave up trying to call him."

"That's what I thought." Jason catches Katie by slinging an arm over her shoulders as she walks by, not realizing that something had happened. He wasn't trying to do anything, but somehow, everything he was hearing was being pushed in her direction. It had never happened before, and Jason was too absorbed to notice that Katie was being let in on the conversation. "Alright, well I just wanted to touch base. I'll call you guys when I can but I'll probably be silent for a few days now."

"We understand. Just stay safe and bring back Katie too."

Jason grins. "Of course. Later."

"Later."

Jason flips his phone shut and gives Katie's head a kiss. "I'm supposed to bring you home safe."

Jade stands in the entrance of the quiet barn, looking towards the lit dining hall. She could hear Dan behind her, finishing up the last few chores, and she sighs. Another day gone. "I have to talk to him," she comments aloud. "I know he's trying to find Dylan but I have to talk to him anyway." She sighs again. She was scared to.

Idea

Giving a laugh as Rin lets out an excited woof Karla just shakes her head. Standing to turn the tv and game off as Kip answers his phone. It was getting late now and she new there time would be coming when they would have to say good night. Only to be surprised once again by a kind offer from Kip.

"Well, if you consider a glass of flat pop, and a dollar tv dinner something planned than yes I do. But if not, than no I have nothing planned at all!"

Karla gave a smile to Kip. Knowing her meal didn't sound great she hopped he found a little humor in it anyways. Thought Karla would admit she was excited in wondering what Kip would ask her next.

Getting into the backseat to let Leo drive a small smile played on Ryan's lips. She had ment renting a movie anyways so that worked but she would let Leo have this idea for himself this time.

"I think Pizza and a movie sounds fantastic actually."

Fishing around in the back seat Ryan fings a clean cloth and shakes it out a few times before handing it up to her brother.

"Here, hold this on your head for now to try and stop the bleeding. When we get home, Dr Leo and Nurse Speedy will fix you up."

Supper?

Eli manages a grin as they head to the car. "I think this old man is gonna have to pass on a movie and trade it for a couple ice packs instead."

Leo reaches the front passenger door and opens it for Eli, while slipping a look to Ryan. He wasn't about to leave Eli out after this. "How about we get back home, then Ryan and I can go pick up a movie and pizza to bring back?"

Getting into the car gingerly, Eli smiles in appreciation. "Sounds great if it's okay with Speedy."

"Oh, sure." Kip rolls his eyes. "Show me up in front of the dog." He takes the controller back and looks to Rin again. "She thinks it's funny, doesn't she?"

Giving a little smirk, Kip tries it once more, but right at the last second, he goes plummeting into the ravine. All he can do is laugh and shake his head. "I'm afraid my fingers were trained for a guitar, not a video game controller."

He's about to try again, when he feels his phone buzzing in his pocket. Checking it out, his eyes widen. He'd missed four calls from Erik, and only now does he remember why. "Ohhh, crap. We got band practice in five minutes. Erik's gonna kill me - I've gotta run." Getting to his feet, he glances around quickly to make sure he didn't forget anything.

But then he stop and looks to Karla. "You got plans for supper?"

Spin Jump

Returning the hug and taking a long deep breath Ryan would never tire of her brother's smell. Weather it was mixed with sweat or not oil and leather would always comfort her. For those few moments Ryan just takes the sent in, thankful for her brother protectiveness.

Being drawn back Ryan is silent for a few moments as she looks up into her brothers eyes. How deep they were, and though miles had been between them it was like not a moment had gone by that they had been apart. Giving a soft smile Ryan leans up to give her brother a small kiss of thanks on the cheek.

"Yeah, I'm ok. Thank you."

Slipping her arm into her brother so it was locked Ryan walked with him back to where Leo stood, not even bothering to give a second glance at Roth. Smiling and giving a small nod to Leo Ryan slings her arm around his shoulder.

"I don't really feel like watching the race right now. How about we go home get cleaned up and go see a movie or something just for tonight. Maybe next race if I can get my car fixed up in time I'll race."

Hearing his name Rin perks his head up cocking it to the side a little looking at Kip. Seeing the controller that was being held out to him Rin stands with a grown coming over to Kip and sniffing it before trying to paw at it as well. Letting out a low woof as he just cant seem to get it right eather.

Giving a laugh as she watchs Kip and Rin interact it was just to funny. Her dog ever really took to anyone but Kip there must have been something different about him and it intrigued Karla even more.

Leaning over behind Kip as he still sits on the floor Karla pulls her legs up on the couch draping a blanket over top of them to give a little warmth.

"Ok, this is how you do it."

Starting her level she trys not to go to fast to show Kip how to do it. Grabbing the turtle shell and carrying it to the next guy Karla lets it go. Hitting all the koopas to get them out of the way. Bouncing off of a few more guys Karla rides the cloud to almost the end and jumps out coming to the cliff where Kip died. Running and giving a spin jump off one, two, and three flying turtles Karla makes it over the cliff.

"See its not that hard you just have to know the spin jump trick. Here you try it again? Have to keep at it if you want to get better right?"

12/3/09

Right about now

Eli keeps his grip on the chain, not letting Roth go, even when he heard the hoarse response. He was so angry. He'd nearly gotten sick after receiving the call that Ryan was in the hospital. He'd beaten himself up over and over for not spending more time with her, calling her, or just being there for her. He'd thought he would lose his sister. And it was all because of this man right here. This man who was almost completely choked out of air, who would pass out any moment. Eli was in control, and it would be so easy to-

Ryan's words yank him from his angry fog, suddenly making him realize just how close he was doing something he'd regret for the rest of his life. He had no right to kill anyone, no matter how angry he was. Roth was finished. It was over.

Eli slowly releases the chain, letting it slide loose and off Roth's neck. Giving the man a slight shove as a final statement, he takes a step back and looks down at the chain in his hand. Still breathing heavily, he grits his teeth, then lets the chain fall to the ground.

Glancing back to his sister, he just looks at her for a moment before pulling her into a hug. He was a bloody mess, but it didn't seem to matter. He was sorry she had to take the brunt of Roth's ire, and he was sorry that she was here to witness what he'd just done too. His scent is one of leather and car oil as he hugs her close then draws back to see her face again. "I'm sorry. You okay?"

Leo watches the crowd's reaction to Roth's loss, and it's obvious that many are now having second thoughts about the man who had been in control. He saw men scoff and turn away. He saw women take a returning glance at the guys whom they had left to follow Roth. And he saw Roth, beaten at his own game. Leo couldn't deny that it felt good. Had he not had better sense, he would have taken a shot at Roth himself just for the fun of it. But it looked like the bully had had enough.

Just standing back, Leo folds his arms and watches Eli and Ryan. Brother and sister had something special, even though they'd been years apart.

Kip gives a little scoffing laugh and slides off the couch to sit on the floor as he takes the controller. "As if I could beat anybody. I love to play this game just because it gave everybody else a good laugh."

Still grinning, the game began. Laughing, chatting, and laughing some more, Kip didn't realize how quickly the time was slipping by. Several games, a glass of flat pop, and an even score later, Kip leans back against the couch having just lost a level by falling off a cliff. "I'll never get it!" he wails, giving Karla a stupid grin. Glancing to Rin, he holds out the controller. "Hey, Rin, you want a shot? I think you could do better than I could right about now."

My butt

Continuing to watch on Ryan wanted to help her brother. It was in her blood to defend and come to the aid of those in trouble like this. But it was a lost cause to even try. She was still hurt herself and if Roth's goons saw someone else step in it might just make it worse. Her father always told her to pick her battled wisely and there was nothing cowardly about stepping back when you new you couldn't win. So continuing to hold on to Leo's hand was all she could do as her grip tightened a little with every blow her brother took.

Still laughing thinking he had the upper hand Roth was surprised when his feet came out from underneath him. Hitting the ground hard his laughter stoped and a growl came from his throat as his eyes blazed as if they were on fire.

"Why you little...."

Starting to stand again but his words were quickly cut off as the fist meeting his ribs. The loud crack sounded it felt like he had been hit by a truck. Doubling over pain shot through Roth like something he had never felt before. As he started to spit up blood. Not having time to catch his breath or even think about the pain another first comes to his jaw and than his face the pain shooting through his hole body. He had under estimated Eli and now he was paying.

Feeling the cold steel links going around his neck Roth trys to scramble to get the upper hand once again but it was to late. Falling to his knees he could feel the air being sucked out of his lungs as the chain became tighter and tighter. Bringing his hands up to it, to try and pry himself free it was no use Eli had him, the battle was over, and he had lost.

Continuing to watch, Ryan didn't know what to do with every hit to her brother she felt the pain. But as things start to turn around and Ryan see the chain comes into play giving her brother the upper hand she perks up. Some would say it was fighting dirty, or not fair what Eli did but if he hadnt Roth would have.

Not being able to help the small cheers Ryan looks to Leo before looking back to the fight. Fighting was wrong and she didn't agree but her brother was trying to defend her honor and for that she could not hold it against him. Still standing with her one hand in Leo, and her other crossed over her Ryan looks Roth dead in the eye as they become glazed from the loss of air.

Feeling the air slip from him slowly, and having his head jerked up to look at Ryan, Roth couldn't glair, he could hardly talk though her could manage just a few raspy words.

"Yeah....I got it."

Roth's breaths were raspy and shallow his eyes slowly starting to roll back in his head as his friends stared on as Eli hesitated to let go.

"Come on man, let him go."

"He said he wouldn't touch your sister again let him free."

Seeing her brother hesitate to let Roth free Ryan could see in her brothers eyes the anger and adrenaline that was in him. It was possable that it was so strong it was blinding even him of good heart to what he was doing.

Letting go of Leo's hand and taking only a few steps forward Ryan wasn't scared now. Everything would be ok, and if anyone was stupid enough to mess with her now that would be there own fault. Laying a hand on Eli's arm Ryan talks softly. The last thing she wanted was to lose her brother when she just got him back.

"Eli, its ok now. Let him go before you kill him. I don't want to lose you."

Grabbing her own glass of water Karla comes back into the living room setting the glass on the floor next to the couch. Going over to the tv and flipping it on Karal has to bang on the top a few times to get it work till finally this pictures comes on. Turning on the game system and unwrapping both the controllers she hands one to Kip.

"Ok, its been a long time since I played this too, so dont know my butt to bad ok?"

A grin formed on Karla's face and a small sparkle in her eyes as she relaxed a little getting use to Kip being here and seeing he wasnt going anywhere else. They had only been here a few moments but already Karla liked having someone to talk with. Even if they didn't talk just the feeling ok knowing someone was there was nice.

Nobody

Seeing what was happening, and hearing Ryan's cry, Leo is quick to put a protective arm around her, his gaze becoming a glare. His own face still clearly bore the marks from his last run-in with Roth, and he can feel his anger burning once again. "Roth, you swine," he hisses.

Leo wanted to interfere and help Eli, but any man without the aid of a weapon would be helpless in this crowd. Instead, all he can do is tighten his grip on Ryan to keep her from going to her brother.

Eli blinks back a drop of blood, his blurred vision just making out the figure of Ryan as she screams his name. Maybe he'd bit off more than he could chew this time. Maybe he'd been too cocky. Maybe he wasn't as strong as he'd once been. He can feel himself starting to give up as he lies on the ground, taking another kick to the ribs.

Then Roth's words hit his ears. Above the jeering crowd, he could hear Roth's taunting. Eli's blood begins to boil once more. No one talked about his sister like that - no one. His expression of defeat slowly morphs into one of cold steel. Lifting his head a little from the dirt, sweat and blood run down the side of his face. His hand slides forward to feel what had gone overlooked in the dim light until now, and his fingers wrap around the cool links.

Getting another kick in the side, Eli suddenly rolls onto his back, hooking Roth's angles with his feet, and giving them a swift tug to bring the man down to the ground. He knew it hadn't been a hard enough hit to keep Roth down, so he has to take advantage of the quick moment to roll a few feet away and get back to his own feet.

Standing tall once more, his back is to his sister as the ire rages in his eyes, watching Roth get back to his feet. But this time a two-foot chain hangs from his hand. Eli's wrist twists several times, wrapping the cold, hard chain around his fist as he waits for Roth to come at him again. Ducking a blow, he delivers a hard punch right to Roth's ribs, the chain multiplying the impact enough for Eli to hear a crack. But he was far from done. Taking advantage of a slight pause, his fist flies back to Roth's jaw, the steel links slamming into his flesh, then coming back up for another hit to the side of the face.

Adrenaline and pain fuel Eli's rage as he relentlessly attacks Roth's ribcage with his chained fist. He can hear the boos and yelling all around him, but he doesn't care. Bringing Roth low enough, he lets the chain unravel from his hand and snakes it around Roth's neck. Slipping behind his opponent, he kicks Roth hard behind his knee to get him down on the ground, while his hands put a tight hold on the chain noose, cutting off much of Roth's air supply.

"Nobody touches a McKade," Eli threatens, giving a yank to the chain. Blood trickles down from a cut in his head, disappearing into the black of his leather jacket. His right hand was already black and blue from using the chain, but he'd done more damage than that to Roth. "You see Ryan over there?" Eli grips the chain with one hand while yanking at Roth's hair to pull his head up, straight on with Ryan and Leo. "You ever... ever even think about harming her or any of her friends again and this chain will be so tight around your neck that they'll have to bury you with it. Got it?"

Gunner's eyes widen slightly and he can't help a laugh, even though Bree was trying to move on from her unfortunate comment. He was tempted to tease her about it, but this time he lets it slide.

"Yeah... yeah, I'll think about it."

Leaning down to slip his shoes back on, he stands and stretches tall, his hands reaching for the ceiling as he yawns. He was tired... but it was a good tired. "Thanks, Bree." He looks her in the eye, showing he meant it. "For being my friend."

"I'm good." Kip waves off the offer for a drink and he wanders the room for a moment before sinking onto the edge of the couch. "I haven't played mario brothers in ages."

A grin slides across his face as he looks up to Karla. "But there's no way I'm playing by myself."

Anger

Giving a smile and letting Rin inside the dim lit hallway first Karla follows close behind. Finally getting to the door with the faded 32 on the front. Unlocking the door and opening it Rin once again goes in first giving a bark Karla follows flipping the lights on.

There was a cold chill in the air from a broken furnace that hadn't kicked on with the change in the weather. Dull yellow wall paper lined the walls coming off in some place, but a few pictures hung trying to make the place look somewhat like home. A couch sat in the next room clearly a hand me down, with a small tv across from it on a metal rack. Over in the corner closes to the couch layed a blanket with a rubber chew toy that Rin happily calmed as his own resting his head on his paws.

Taking her jacket off and placing it on the coat rack Karla moves around the apt a little trying to throw some things to the side so Kip would have a place to sit.

"Make yourself comfortable if you like. I have an old super Nintendo thats ancient hooked up to that tv if you like play mario brothers. Want anything to drink? I have water, some flat pop, and water."

"Well if you make this your home for a while, you wont have to worry about that. You'll just have to kick me out of your bed."

Bree's eyes widen just a little as she relized what she has said. She ment Gunner would have to kicked her off the couch but it had come out all wrong and some color came to her face.

"I ment off the couch. Yes, thats what I ment."

Trying to change the subject quickly her face returns to normal color.

"Thank you, for coming to dinner and the bear again. I hope you do consider my Uncle's offer as well. It will be nice to have you here."

Receaving his own jabs Roth stumbles backwards but the sound of the crowd drives him on. Throwing more punchs at Eli till he is down on the ground. Roth snickered and jeered, throwing a few kicks to Eli in as well.

"This is what you wanted smart guy? To get this beat down?"

Getting out of the car with Leo it felt kind of nice being back at the races but it was strange at the same time. Ryan's last memorie here not the bed, but having Leo close helped.

"Your right, this is odd."

Following closely behind Leo Ryan held onto his hand a little tighter without even realizing it. She was more nervous than scared for what might be going on right now. Seeing the group of people standing around confirms the fear that something wasn't right.

Finally getting through the people and to the front with Leo Ryan's eyes zoom into her brother on the ground. What on earth was he doing here and if a fight with Roth non the less. She couldnt help the little shreak as a nothing kick was delivered to Eli in the stomach.

"ELI.."

Turning at the sound of Ryan's voice Roth scans the crowd before his eyes zero in on her. A nasty smerk coming to his face as he looks down at Eli, than Ryan squatting down on the ground by Eli who was a bloody mess seeing the resemblance now.

"So thats why I felt like I new, thats your sister."

Looking back at Ryan again her jeers seeing Leo with her.

"Come to pay me my money now? Or do I have to put another bullet in you."

Ryan wasnt scared but she jumped anyways. Roth had guys all over, and who new what they were planning themselves. Not answering she just moves a little closer to Leo.

Laughing Roth looks to Eli his eyes glazed and burning.

"You know if your sister had just payed me the money it wouldnt have ended this way. Heck I even was going to ask her to be mine when things didnt work out with Leo. Just imagen those legs in a nice mini skirt, and a low cut shirt."

Brawl

Kip stops with Karla, his hands in his pockets as he glances around. Hearing Rin's growl, he can understand now why the dog was protective of his mistress, in a place like this. It affected nothing of what he thought of Karla though. This wasn't the best place he'd seen, but it wasn't the worst either, and he'd certainly hung around a few worse places than this, and it wasn't even because he'd had to.

Giving a nod, he glances over to Karla. "I said I'd walk you home. You're not home yet until you're inside, so... keep on leading. I don't have anything to take me back home any time soon."

Seeing the book, a smile spreads on Gunner's face, and he takes it slowly. Sitting back in the couch, his feet automatically rise to set on the coffee table, and he starts thumbing through the pages. His eyes light up as he sees the pictures and information he already knew so well, yet was always fascinated, and always learning something new.

Reading and pointing things out to Bree every few seconds, he's drawn into the book, not even realizing that JT hadn't come back yet. Eventually, the beeping of his watch takes Gunner's attention away from the subject of astronomy, and he realizes that it's getting late.

He sighs and lets the book fall shut, glancing to Bree. "I guess my watch is reminding me not to outstay my welcome."

Seeing the reaction of Roth's little gang, Eli knew he had them right where he wanted them. This was the only way to get Roth to fight fair, and that was half the battle. Circling with his opponent, he eyes Roth warily, trying to size him up. Unfortunately, he was too busy thinking instead of reacting, and he misses Roth's first move.

Staggering backward, the blunt blow to his jaw spreads pain through his face before he doubles over with the jab to his gut. Another punch to his face sends him a couple more feet back, spreading the crowd that was growing around them.

Grunting with frustration, Eli steps forward, getting a nice right hook to Roth's own jaw, followed by a left to the man's ribs. Ducking a couple blows, the brawl continues. A swift fist to the side of his face though, sends Eli to the ground, blood spurting from his split lip.

Leo gets out of the car and scans the area. Something felt odd. "Where is everyone?" he asks Ryan. Shrugging, he moves forward with her. They'd had a nice dinner out before coming here, Leo trying not to lead on how nervous he was about just showing up here again. It still made his stomach churn.

Walking towards the normal hotspot, he realizes that most people have gathered in a circle around something going on. There was shouting and jeering. "What on earth..." He instinctively walks just slightly in front of Ryan, his hand in hers, keeping her back just a little. If this was another bad episode, he wanted to get her out of there.

But pushing their way through the mob in order to see, Leo's eyes widen. Eli was on the ground by now, with Roth towering above him.

Growl

Giving a laugh and shaking her own head as she took a sip of her water. She felt like her stomach would going to explode still but how could she turn down ice cream.

Watching JT leaving the living room Bree smiles before bringing her attachen back to Gunner. She'd been upset not to have floats with Gunner but not upset with him. It had just been a bad day all in all.

"Its ok, really. I shouldn't expect we are going to have floats every day anyways. You have your own life too."

Reaching onto the table Bree grabs a small but wide book and holds it out to Gunner. On the cover were stars and gold lettering "Constalations and the Meaning."

"I saw this at the library today and it made me think of you so I got it."

Just eyeing Eli as he talks the first burns in Roth's eyes as he can hear a few people around them snicker and laugh. Continuing to study Eli Roth felt something familiar about him but couldn't put his finger on it.

Hearing the two ladys to his left giggling Roth turns a little and looks at them squinting. Only to be meet with there cheers and there urges to fight Eli and show him what they got. His other buddy's doing the same mocking Eli and cheering Roth on.

Stepping forward Roth gets into a ready stance. He wasnt about to let Eli show him up not when he didnt even know who this guy was.

"You want me, well here I am."

Moving around in circles Roth does a steal down with Eli neither man striking yet. But finally Roth has had enough and lash out geting Eli right in the jaw, than his stomach, than face again.

Giving a smile Karla felt a little better as Kip mentioned where he grew up. Knowing where she lived didnt make him change his mind about walking her home was nice. Not everyone would give her a second glance when finding out where she lived.

Heading out the way they came Karla gave a wave to the 4 who were at the table still drinking there coffee and tea together laughing and having a nice time.

"It was nice meeting you guys."

Giving a small wave and than exiting the house Karla makes sure Kip and Rin are both with her before heading down the drive way and on there way home.

Keeping up the conversation and having a few laughs on the way home the time seems to go by so fast. The scenes from the nice area they had just been in changing to the dirty rough, part of town.

Finally stopping outside a fadded blue building with peeling paint, the yard looked like someone hadnt taken care of it in weeks. Garbage littered it, and the grass grew tall. Shaddy looking people stood outside the building and yelled across the street to others. While some seemed to stair at Kip and Karla stairing them up and down.

Rin let out a low growel and Karla gentily pated his head letting him know it was ok.

"Well this is it."

Karla points to the blue building.

"Would...you like to come up?"

Karla wasnt sure if he would want to or not, let alone know if she really wanted him to. She didn't have heat right now and not much to offer, but still she wanted to talk with him more.

Sorry

Eli cocks his head a little, unfazed by Roth's threat. "I want you alone, that's what I want," he replies evenly. "I wanna see what a tough guy you really are."

He eyes the women and the men standing by Roth, obviously part of his group. "Unless..." A sly grin surfaces. "...you're too scared to be a man and come out from behind your little friends there. I hear you're too chicken to use your own hands too - have to show off with flashy guns."

Eli takes a step back and stretches his arms out to the side in a stance that stated 'come and get it.' "You really got what it takes to be a man, Roth? I'm beginning to doubt you even know how to swing your own fist."

If Karla hadn't been nervous, Kip would have laughed. But he holds his tongue, and only gives a gentle smile instead. For a moment, he just looks at her, something softer passing through his eyes. "You know that trailer court, back behind the junkyard on the south side of town?" Most people knew about it. And most people considered it just an overflowing from the junkyard itself. Garbage everywhere, varmints all over the place, police constantly on the scene for drug busts or domestic disturbances.

Kip purses his lips, his smile fading, though he isn't sad. "Not everybody who lives in this house grew up in a house like it." His words make it obvious that he was referring to himself. Without saying so, one would understand he'd come from that trailer court. "I highly doubt you'll be able to scare me away."

He gestures to the door. "Lead the way."

Gunner shifts his weight a little, unsure about being in the spotlight like this, though he can't help a little grin at Bree's comment about bothering him. Part of him felt so warm and good, and another part of him wasn't sure he could accept an offer like this. He didn't know for sure, but he would guess that Bree had relayed to JT that he was having a hard time at home. Gunner knew in his head that it was natural, but there was a part of him that was embarrassed. He really did want to wait it out and get back on his own two feet. But at the same time... thinking about not having to face that dark apartment tugged him in the other direction.

"Um... I'll think about it."

JT nods. "Fair enough." Letting the subject drop so he didn't pressure Gunner, he stands up and stretches. "I think a gremlin brought some ice cream over today... anybody want some?"

Gunner shakes his head a little, but his smile is one of thanks. He was too full. When JT has left the room, Gunner, glances to the other end of the couch, feeling just a little warmth in his face as he studied Bree. "I, um... I'm sorry about skunking you today over lunch."

Out Numbered

"Hey, what can I saw I make good none garlic, garlic bread. I have a talent for it."

Setting the little bear aside into the chair that was empty at the table Bree looks at it once again before looking to her Uncle, and Gunner. It had been a crappy afternoon but he had made it better and for that Bree was thankful.

Digging into her food and letting the conversation continue it was nice having someone else at the table with them. Not that she minded talking with her Uncle but sometimes just stopping and listing was always nice too.

As the conversation comes to the lull and Bree' Uncle starts talking directly Bree has a hunch of what he was talking about but was a little surprised that he was pretty much asking Gunner to live there. Not that it bothered her, she just didnt expect that from her uncle.

Her eyes twinkle though there was no smile on her face as JT turns the attachen to her asking a question. Pretending to think for a long moment if one looked closer they could see in her eyes she already had the answer. But adding dramatic affect was way to much fun.

"That was be fine with me, it would be nice to have Gunner close by anyways. It just means I can bother him easier. I wouldn't mind you at all staying here Gunner. As long as you dont mind I would be in and out of the house at all hours."

Turning to Kip a smile still remained on Karla's face but a something flickered behind her eyes. Maybe a little bit of embarrassment, or something else.

"Thats very nice of you and I wouldnt mind but..."

Karla looks down for a moment before looking back up at Kip searching his eyes for a long moment. Maybe he wouldn't mind but still it was far from this.

"...my apartment is not the best. Bad part of town, grubby looking, Its pretty bad. Sure is nothing like this thats for sure. I consider this a palace."

Karla gives a little nervous and shy laugh as she shifts her weight from one foot to the next.

"But...if...you dont think it will scare you away I guess I wouldn't mind."

Still exchanging words and paraphernalia with his friends Roth doesn't even notice as Eli comes up. Its not till Eli speaks that Roth realizes he is there. Turning to face him Roth stands with his legs spread a little his buddys on one side, and the girls on the other.

"Whats it to you if I am or not? You should watch your mouth when your out numbered."

Roth looks behind him at his two friends and gives a dry laugh before his cold eyes look back to Eli. Giving Eli a once over of his own Roth gives a scoff.

"Whata you want?"

Challenge

Gunner grins and nods to Bree, accepting the food. As he bit into a slice of garlic bread, he realized that suddenly his appetite had returned. "Oh man, this is good."

"Thank the garlic bread queen," JT comments as he sucks in a noodle. "I make the spaghetti, but Bree does the bread."

Gunner steals a glance in her direction, quirking a grin. "Well, she does a good job."

As the meal progresses, any tension seems to disperse. Gunner's awkwardness dissolves as well, and it seems the strangeness that had developed after that morning just doesn't matter anymore. Chuckling at stories and joining in small talk, the three eventually move to the living room to relax.

A lull in the conversation brings JT's attention to Gunner once again. "Gunner, I, um... had a question." He pauses, not wanting to embarrass the other man. He decides to go at it from a different angle. "I'm working nights for a week or so, starting tomorrow. I never did like leaving the house overnight, especially now that there's been vandals in the area. You wouldn't want to house sit for me, would you?"

Gunner quirks an eyebrow at the suggestion. "Um... well..." He had to admit that there was something appealing about not having to be at his own apartment right now. "Doesn't Bree... I mean..."

"She stays once in a while," JT nods casually. "That's what the spare room down the hall is for." He smiles at Bree before looking back to Gunner. "But that's not every night."

"Well I wouldn't want to impose if... if she were here." Gunner could feel a bit of heat in his face. That hadn't come out right.

JT gives a soft chuckle. "You think this house isn't big enough?" He shakes his head. "The couch is yours if you want."

Gunner looks JT in the eye for a moment, trying to find his true motive. And in a quick moment, no longer than an instant, Gunner understood. And he was filled with such a gratefulness that it was almost overwhelming. JT was trying to help him, not just get a house sitter. But he'd been gracious enough not to say it outright in front of Bree.

Gunner glances down and clears his throat. "Um... I'll think about it."

"Fair enough." JT looks at Bree. "You wouldn't mind, would you?"

Kip laughs at Karla's remark about Rin and stands up to clear his dishes, but she had beat him to it. Following her to the sink, he lets his gaze trace hers to the backyard. "Pretty, isn't it?" He cocks his head. "You... wouldn't let me walk you home, would you?"

Eli walks casually but confidently, nodding to some of the other people around him as he wove in and out of the crowd. His eyes roamed the faces until he found the one he was looking for. Anger flowed hot through his veins, flashing through his gaze. His hands clench and loosen over and over with his tension as he grits his teeth.

Finally he reaches his destination. A dry grin appears on his face, his eyes narrowed slightly as he gives Roth a good once-over, stopping just a few feet in front of him. "So... you're the big bully everyone is talking about. I must say, you're less than what I expected."

Hanging

Giving a small smile Karla enjoyed the prospect of spending time with someone. Though Kip was still stranger he seemed nice enough and the people around him seemed nice as well. This could be the opening she was looking for and the friend she needed. Just someone to share her time and talent with.

"Sitting in on one of your practices would be fun, and probably the best option. I don't have much money now so I'd never be able to pay to get into the show. But a practice to see what you guys were about would be fun."

Finishing off her food and the little bit of juice she had left Karla doesn't leave a drop. She had done a good job of soaking up everything that was left and no crumbs remained. If one looked at it they might have though she herself or Rin had licked if clean because of how well she made sure not to wast anything.

"That meal was simply amazing. I could totally get use to eating like this."

Karla gives a small laugh her eyes twinkling just a little. Rin giving a bark as he can feel her excitement. Looking down at the dog she brings a finger to her lips.

"Shhhh...you cant bark inside or they will throw us out."

Shaking her head and giving the dog a loving scratch under his chin Karla looks up again at Kip. She didn't want to leave so soon after just meeting her new friend not to mention it was warm here but she new Rin would have to go soon and she didnt want to ware out her welcome.

"Thank you so much Kip for shearing this time with me. I stopped to help you and ended up making a new friend. We better be going though. It would be pretty embarrassing if Rin had an accident right here. Than we might never be aloud to come back."

Standing and looking around for a moment Karla takes Rin's bowl from the floor and her own from the table, she grabs Kips as well. Bringing it to the sink and handing it to Shirley. Gazing out the window for a moment as the large backyard Karla imagens what it much look like in the summer time. The remints of where flowers bloomed and bushes few. A fountain in the back a little small than the front. Truly this was something from a dream, movie, or book.

Gentily pressing her lips together and looks at Gunner as he pulls away Bree smile less just a little as the sides of her face started to hurt but her eyes still twinkled and grew bright. Getting a returned hug from Gunner was different from getting one from her Uncle, and Bree liked it.

As her Uncle breaks the moment Bree turns around a little color coming to her face relizing he was standing there and more than likely saw everything.

Going to the table and sitting down Bree smile fades but her eyes continue to twinkle at her Uncles comment knowing he was joking but playing along was always fun anyways.

"Hey now, at least I dont make you watch chick flicks. Your the one who makes ME watch them and than you sob over them."

Bree smile turns to a sly grin knowing she just rated her Uncle out to Gunner but thinking it was pretty funny herself.

Turning to Gunner Bree shakes her head a little holding up the spaghetti.

"Would you like some spaghetti with your meatballs on the side? We have garlic bread as well."

Leaning aganst his car dressed in jeans with holes in the knees and a white muscle shirt Roth summons two women dressed in mini skirts that hardly covered anything, and shirts that looked like they left half of it home to his side slinging his arm around each wast.. Exchanging kiss back and forth with each of them.

"My brothers hows it hangin?"

As two other guys make they way over to Roth he pushs off his car exchanging fist pounds and chest bumps showing they were buddys. The two girls following close to him flaunting what they had, and not really caring what people saw.

A long time

Kip listens intently to Karla, helping himself to another helping of breakfast casserole as she talks. When she's finished, he cocks his head, giving her a little grin. She seemed to lead a pretty quiet life - little timid, enjoying the arts, and seeming to enjoy making others feel good through her expression.

"Maybe you can tag along with the band sometime," he offers. "We're not really anything yet but... we got a good shot at something here real soon. Or you could sit in on our practice session. Might even get you to sing a few notes."

He searches her eyes for a moment before returning to his food, unsure if he'd just been too forward or not, but having fun nonetheless.

Being drawn into a hug, Gunner goes rigid for a moment, taken completely off guard. He'd had her arms around him before, but it had been different... it had been in those dark hours when he'd needed a shoulder and needed the comfort. This wasn't the same. This was a hug out in the middle of nowhere, not with the intention of comfort, but rather to say "thank you." And it was as totally different feeling.

His stomach does a little flop and he feels funny for a moment. He couldn't remember the last time he'd received a hug out of the blue like this. Maybe he never had. And in a brief moment, he realizes that he really didn't know how to hug back. But his arms seemed to know what to do.

A little awkwardly, he slowly moves his arms around Bree, pulling her in gently, warmly. It felt better than he thought it would. He actually... liked this feeling. Her hair smelled sweet and having her close felt... nice. He gives her back a little rub.

"You're welcome," he answers quietly. And he knew that this morning had meant nothing negative at all.

Pulling away so he could see her face, his mouth upturns into a slight grin. "I'll have to remember you like teddy bears."

Glancing in their direction, JT still withholds the smile that wanted to come out. It had been a long time since he'd seen Bree smile like that. Though his own start with Gunner had been rough, he was grateful now for the man's company that seemed to brighten his niece's spirit. But all good things must come to an end, even if he did want to just leave them be. "Soup's on!"

Gunner looks quickly to the table, his arms dropping back to his sides. After glancing at Bree's eyes for just a moment, he takes off his jacket and hangs it on the back of the empty chair to take his place at the kitchen table. "Um... thank you for inviting me."

JT sits back down too, and waves him off. "Like I said, there's too much food here anyway. And besides, I'm stuck with Bree all the time - it's nice to have another man around for a change."

Though Gunner lifts his eyebrows at the remark, JT knows good and well that Bree will know it's a joke as he tosses her a wink.

A motorcycle engine revs as it's pulled up alongside a row of cars. Headlights illuminated the deserted street, casting odd shadows on the milling crowd. Laughter rings out, someone shouts, a bear bottle is shattered against a brick wall, and car engines are warmed up.

Eli dismounts his bike and pulls off his helmet, scanning the crowd. He'd done his homework. He knew what Roth would look like, who his goons were, and what kind of car he had. He also knew he would be here tonight. It hadn't been hard... racers in the area were proud of what they did, despite the police's distaste for it. And anyone involved in the races gladly offered information as to when and where the next event would happen, along with their opinions of who would win, who would not, and who deserved to get left in the dirt. Finding Roth hadn't been hard.

Locking his helmet to his bike and leaving his leather jacket unzipped, Eli tightens his gloves on his hands, his fingers free to flex as he cracks his knuckles. His boots crunch on loose gravel as he makes his way into the crowd, his face tight, and his eyes flaming.

After finally realizing that his phone battery was dead, then recharging it, Axel had discovered the voicemail from Misty. Even though it was evening, he made a call to TJY, hoping to catch her. And he did. "Hey, Misty... Axel. Sounds great and I'm ready any time you want me."

Tears

"Oh, a band. Thats pretty cool and seems like fun. A good way to lose some energy thats pent up with all the sweating you guys do on stange I bet."

Taking another bit of her breakfast and twirling the fork in the egg Karla is quiet for a moment. It wasnt a hard question its only was that her life really wasn't that interesting to think about talking to someone. But Kip wanted to know so no matter how boring she would tell him.

"Well, in my exciting little world at home I liked to read, write, watch movies, and paint. Than in my free time witch happens to be a lot lately I like to sing at my church or at nursing homes. Its a way to put emotions out there without really saying them."

Giving a smile Karla takes a sip of her juice. There wasn't much she did outside her own house but what she did do she loved.

Returned the kiss Katie lets emotions though with a warm loving wrap around them.

I love you too J!

Smiling resting her head aganst Jason for a second Katie finally straightens again. She new they had to get going go they could get to texas and await what to do next. Katie could only hope that Dylan was ok, and they wouldn't be gone to long.

"Alright lets get Wyatt and head on out. I am ready as ever."

Perking up at her Uncle answered the door and hearing Gunner's voice Bree stayed seated but strained her neck to try and see him. Bree still felt a little blah with everything that had gone one today with her family, but that didnt mean she hadnt missed Gunner. Hearing his voice now when she had thought he wouldnt be coming was music to her ears.

Finally seeing Gunner come into the kitchen a grin forms on Brees face as her eyes dance. She was excited to see him, and happy he came.

As the bear is placed infront of Bree she just looks at it for a long moment the grin from her face fading. No one had ever given her a gift like this before for no reason. Looking at Gunner and than the bear again Bree finally reaches out to touch the soft fur running her finds along the bear.

Picking it up Bree holds it for a long moment. The strange emotions bubbled inside of her as she could feel the wetness behind her eyes form. She wasn't even sure why. It wasnt a sad emotions she was feeling but one that made her extremely happy. Slowly her mouth turns up into the biggest smile, something that had been absent from her face for far to long. Bringing the bear to her face Bree pushs her face in the bears fur letting the softness brush her skin.

Looking back at Gunner and standing the smile still on her lips Bree takes a few steps forward wrapping her arms around Gunner to give him a hug. He had made her feel good in more than on way today.

"Thank you Vamp."

Distraction

"Ohh, you're too sweet." Shirley smiles her thanks to Karla's compliment. "It's just a bit of eggs and cheese."

"And love," Kip adds.

Shirley gives his arm a swat and looks to Karla. "He likes making me feel good so I'll make him those peanut butter cookies he likes. Never did figure out how he can eat so many and still stay so skinny."

Kip's grin widens. "I think it's called metabolism."

"Well, you keep on going for ten-mile runs, you're gonna eat me out of a kitchen." She gives his hair a loving ruffle before turning back to Karla. "I'll get Rin some water."

As she leaves, Kip takes another bite and chuckles at Karla's question. "Other than getting myself in trouble? Most of my free time is used to play bass guitar. I was in a band, Righteous Bullet, for a while, and now we're forming a new one with the guy out there, Kyle, as lead singer. Erik and Twila are in on it too, and a couple other guys." He shrugs, making light of it. "Otherwise, I keep myself busy with handiwork around here to earn my keep." Another, smaller grin emerges. "This is actually Erik's family's place. They took me in when..." Though his grin remains, a shadow passes through his eyes. "...well, when I needed a place to stay."

He takes a sip of fruit juice then scrapes the last bit of breakfast from his plate. "Sometimes I get out for a night on the town, but only when I'm daring enough to face Erik when I get back." He shrugs again. "My life in a nutshell. I should write a book." A laugh escapes. "People could use their copies as doorjams or something."

Leaning back in his chair, Kip cocks his head. "Now that I've bored you out of your mind, what about you? Last time I looked, this 'getting to know you' thing went both ways."

"I think I could go for that." Leo waits for Ryan to finish wrapping her wrist before leaning over and giving her lips a light kiss. "Thanks for helping me get back on my feet. I think I'm gonna miss spending so much time over here."

Jason has his eyes on his task, but a smile spreads on his face. Turning around, he looks down at Katie, just letting his gaze fall into hers for several moments.

No... I'm not ready. For the first time, I don't want to go. I've been without you so much lately, that to think it might happen again... I don't know if I could take it.

He reaches out with a gentle hand to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, his eyes still on hers.

I love you, Katie Pent, more every day.

Giving a sigh, one corner of his mouth upturns a little more. "I'm as ready as I'll ever be, Hero. Let's nab these bad guys."

They had another half hour before heading out. Then they'd land in Texas and settle in a hotel for one night, making contact with Mick. Then they'd wait for Reese's direction with where to head after he'd received more information from the police. It could be the next day they'd head out, or the next week. It all depended on what intel they'd be fed.

Jade's head turns to follow Dan as he walks a short ways away into the barn. He sees the look he tosses her, and she smiles her response. This wasn't much fun. But... it was nice they could still communicate without needing to talk. It would get old pretty quickly though... and after thinking about it all day, she felt ready to talk to her father about it again. She needed to give him an answer... but she wasn't willing to leave because of Dan, and she wasn't willing to just throw away her newfound friendship in order to stay. There had to be a compromise... right?

Gunner looks at the clock. Most people had left TJY for the night. It was getting late. Past the time JT said supper would be on. Gunner sighs. His stomach didn't feel very good, but maybe that's because he hadn't eaten all day.

Thinking for a few minutes longer, he gets to his feet. He was being silly. He'd missed Bree all day... and even if he felt odd about that morning, he just needed to let it go. Surely she had... right? Maybe it was his fault... maybe he needed to apologize or... something. Bree hadn't acted like she minded it, sitting with him... like... that.

He shakes his head as his spine tingles a little. Okay. He'd go. On his way across town though, he does get distracted by a little shop on Main street before continuing his route...

Arriving at the house, he rings the doorbell and shifts his weight a little nervously, the small bundle under his arm.

JT looks up from a bite of spaghetti and glances to Bree as he hears the doorbell. They'd only been at the table for a few minutes after working together on the meal. It had been a nice relaxing time after a long day, and JT had thought Gunner wouldn't show up. "Hmm... maybe that's our friend." Going to the door and opening it, he smiles. "Hey, Gunner."

"Hey, um... I'm late."

"No one's ever late around here." JT steps back to let him inside. Studying Gunner for a moment with expert eyes, he takes a guess. "Haven't eaten much lately, have you?"

Gunner was surprised at JT's skill and just shrugs. "Wasn't hungry, I guess."

"Well, come on in. Bree and I haven't finished yet, but there's enough here to feed an army anyway."

Gunner gives a little nod and wanders behind him to the kitchen table. JT goes to the counter to grab a plate and starts to dish out another helping of spaghetti from the pot.

Gunner ambles closer to Bree, giving her a crooked grin. "Hey." He wasn't really sure what to say. This whole day had seemed topsy-turvy, and he didn't know what was supposed to happen next, especially when his stomach does a little flipflop. Clearing his throat, he then remembers the object under his arm. "Oh, um, I saw this today and I don't know..." He shrugs. "It made me think of you so..." He sets the little white teddy bear down in front of her. It had big brown eyes and was dressed in purple scrubs like a nurse. Its shirt said, "You're a beary special friend!" Gunner looks at Bree's face for her reaction, hoping that if anything needed to be fixed, that this would help... that if an apology was needed, that this would do.

JT glances over his shoulder, keeping a smile to himself. He takes his time getting the food.

Wink

Sniffing the womans hand cautiously Rin can smell the small remainder of food from whatever meal she was making. Giving in a playful lick and moving his front paws as his large tail wacked the floor to show he was happy.

Giving a small laugh at her dog and taking a bit of the food Karla was surprised on how good the meal tasted. Flashing a grin at Kip and than a look twords the cook Shirley.

"The meal is amazing, thank you so much. As for Rin, he could go a week without water and be ok. But getting him some water would be very nice of you. Thank you!"

Turning back to Kip and taking another bit of the food Karla savers the tast. It was nothing like she had, had before but it was so good, and after the last few days of eating nothing but ramen noodles this was heaven.

"So, what do you like doing in your free time? If we are going to be friends and not strangers anymore I need to know what you like."

Giving another grin Karla's eyes twinkled. It was nice having someone who talk with and get to know. Kip had made it so easy as well, and formed around her shyness.

Giving a chuckle about being the body guard Ryan shakes her head a little. It made her feel good to know Leo would stand up for her even if he new it would end bad though she would never ask him to do so.

"Mmmm...If you come with me we can go watch the race. My car is far from ready to race again, so maybe watching a race will give me the motivation to race again."

Though she didnt say it Ryan did miss racing and couldn't want to get back on the track. Knowing Leo was there to cheer her on was always nice too.

"How about we grab something to eat together and than head over? I'll leave Eli a note in case he comes back early."

Giving a big smile Ryan was happy Leo was there with her and talked her into going with him. Reaching to the table for the ace bandage Ryan wraps her wrist tightly making sure it was well supported.

Looking up and seeing Jade sitting outside Dan couldnt help the small ping that hit his heart. He'd liked becoming friends with Jade and talking to her. He liked having her work along side him so he had someone to chat with. But not it was like being caged away, being able to look out but it being to far to touch.

Bringing the horse around the ring one more time to pass Jade Dan looks at her giving a smile and a wink. He couldn't talk to Jade for fear of Mick getting upset but maybe that was his silent hello to her. Leading the horse into the barn Dan throws a look over his shoulder one last time before disappearing inside to get the next horse.

Mmm....yes I believe we did. But you know how it goes, on the road again.

Adjusting the bag on her shoulder Katie makes her way down the hallway. She was picked along with Jason, and Wyatt in the search for Dylan. Mick thought it was the Agency but the others could only hope not. Katie new what it was like to be under them and it was thought. Even if they didnt kill Dylan they wouldn't make it easy.

Everything the room where Jason was Katie lets her warm emotions flow even though she was worried about her cousin. Coming up behind Jason she nudges him just a little.

"The three stooges, I like it. Ready?"

Getting Axel's voice mail Misty puts her papers down as her voice held a little bit of excitement. It had been longer than planned but she was finally calling Axel back.

"Heya Ax, its Misty. Sorry I didnt call sooner its been crazy. Anyways I got your blood tests back and your cleared. Everything is ok to continue with the research. So when your free in the next say or two I'd like to do the mini surgery to take a peace of your nerve from your wrist. Give me a call back when you have time."

Hanging up the phone Misty leans back in her chair for a long moment as her lets out a small sigh. Things had been moving on with her research well and she was pleased. but what was to come next would be the real test in if this would work or not and Misty couldn't be more excited.

Lil' Cowboy

Gunner hears his phone ringing this time, but seeing it was Bree, for some reason he didn't answer it. He wasn't sure why. Maybe it was because he knew he really didn't have a reason not to meet her today.

Listening to the voicemail, he feels a little worse. It was odd Bree didn't want to go either... she sounded like she was having a rough day. And he'd turned down having floats with her.

He sighs and slips his phone into his pocket, trying to get more work done. It's only ten minutes later that once again, he has a call. This time he answers it though, and tells JT he's not sure if he'll be over for supper or not.

Kip grins at Karla, pleased to see that she was asking about prayer before eating. It was a nice change to make a friend who did that. He knew he didn't always pick the best friends... but he had such a hard time fitting in, that he often took what he could get. "Yeah, sure."

Bowing his head, he thanks God for the food, then pauses before going on. "And thank you for strangers along the road."

Ending his prayer, he still has a little grin on his face as he takes a bite of his breakfast. "Mmm.... Shirley!"

The older woman near the stove turns around in surprise. "What? What's the matter?"

Kip laughs. "Did I ever tell you that you're a good cook?"

Shirley gives him a little smirk. "Almost every day." Her eyes had a sparkle to them that a fun grandma might have. "But that's okay, I don't get tired of it." Chuckling, she wipes her hands on her apron and wanders closer. "Who are your new friends?"

"This is Karla... and Rin."

"Nice to meet you, Karla." Shirley gives a warm smile, then stretches out a hand for Rin to sniff. "I could get him some water if he needs it," she offers.

Leo gives Ryan's fingers a little squeeze. The look on his face was gentle and understanding. Though she didn't say so, he knew she must be a little nervous to go back. He was too. He still looked like he'd been run over by a truck, and Roth's handiwork would have a longer impression on his mind than his looks. "Well... we could always just go and watch tonight." He shrugs. "Say hi to some people and see what's up."

He gives her a rueful grin. "Not that I'll be much good as a bodyguard, but I can try. Miles said he might go down too and hang out for a while though."

Jade rubs some oil into the saddle, folding the cloth and continuing the gentle cleaning and oiling. The sunshine felt warm today, despite a cool breeze. She'd chosen to bring the saddle outside to work on it today instead of staying cooped up in the tack room. There was a reason she'd chosen to set up out behind the barn though. Looking up every now and again, she would steal glances at Dan exercising some of the horses. The only thing better would be riding with him, but she'd take his advice for now and play things cool.

It was funny... she barely knew him... had really not been here all that long to spend time with him... yet seeing him and talking to him was the highlight of her day. The awkwardness she usually felt about new friends just didn't exist. It was like she and Dan... clicked. She'd had guy friends before, and a few boyfriends, including Jason. But even then, all had seemed almost like she had to really try hard to make a go of it - like it was one-sided. It just wasn't like that with Dan. It was just... easy. Her nerves had caused her to flirt with him in the beginning, but now... she didn't act silly with him like she'd done with other guys. She didn't feel the same nervousness around him, or the need to impress him as she had with guys like Jason. She just felt like... herself. It was a nice, warm feeling and she liked it.

Glancing up again, she smiles as Dan passes by near the fence.

Jason throws a few things into one of his bags and scans the rack of firearms before choosing his pistol. He'd just gotten back from lunch, and was preparing to head out later in the afternoon.

Didn't we just leave Texas?

He grins a little, knowing Katie and Wyatt would probably be joining him soon.

The three stooges take off again. I just hope Mick isn't right about thinking it's the Agency.

Scott looks at his computer screen and grins at the picture of BJ that he'd caught on his short stay at the ranch. The boy was outside grinning from ear to ear, his cowboy hat pulled down so far that he had to crane his neck to look up and see the camera.

Scott pulls up an email and types a quick message:
