*The rain starts pouring faster as Katie takes shelter in her tent. It figured, her aunt had said about how nice the whole summer had been very little rain and now, now of all times it had to start. If she had any sence Katie would make her way down the moutain now. The way the rain was coming it was going to get pretty mucky and slippery. Kate new better than to be up her when it was raining. But she wasnt ready to go home yet. Her head was still a mess and not to mention she was all cut up and her aunt would freak more than she probely was now. No...Katie wanted to continue being alone. Loners don't get hurt. Yes being alone for now was safe. If the rain let up in a little bit Katie would be on her way up higher.*
*Jess pases her livingroom floor the phone glued to her ear.*
"Thank you Ms. Fergason. Yes I understand. Yes I should have the money in a week or two if you can hold it for me."
*Even though no one could see her Jess nodded her head to the last on the phone anyways. The excitment was building inside of her. After going to see an apartment this morning the landlord had called her back right away and wanted to work something out. The last new about Jess past but from how she talked on the phone so far she was willing to give Jess a chanse.*
"Ok...yes. Tomarrow for lunch, ok I can do that. Ok...ok thank you Ms. Fergason."
*Jess hangs up the phone and in a moment happyness searges through her. The halfahouse that she had looked at in the paper would be hers tomarrow when she signed for it. Giving an excited squeel Jess leaves her apartment locking the doorbehind her and going to her car. Making her way to Mom and Pop's she couldnt wait to tell Carson the good news.*
*Angelica gives a knock on Reese door as a horrable noise comes from her office. It almost sounded like something was grinding and it felt like nails on a chalkbored.
Poking her head in her tils her head to the side the the horrable noise continues and it proves to be hurting her ears.*
"Reese, you wouldnt happen to know anything about computers would you? I am usally good with them but...I just cant figure out for the life of me why it is making that noise and its driving me batty not to mention everyone alse."
*As the conversation with Jason and his sugar continues Misty cant help but let her heart go out to him. Not only was his sugar going crazy but he lost his connection and his best friend. Misty could only imagen how hard that was.
Sitting back in her chair she continplates options for Jason is the continues before standing and going over to the cabnit. Pulling out a bottle of red pills she walks over to Jason.*
"I over hurd your sugar is crazy at the moment, and the only way to correct it is to keep eating. Well what happend when you full right?"
*Misty hold up the bottle.*
"These are sugar pills. Some people with low bloodsugar that is REALLY REALLY bad take these because its the only wait to maintain it for them. They could work fo you to. They are completely harmless because all they are is sugar. So if your intrested I could get you some to help out."

Half House
Sugar
Carson grins as Jess returns, not resisting to put his arm around her again. "I think I can do that."
He thinks for a moment, then gives just a little nod. "Yeah...Jen's a neat woman." For a moment, his eyes drift back to Axel, then back to Jess again. "That guy seems nice. Doesn't stick inside his group like the others do, does he..."
Giving a sigh, he settles back for a little while longer, until people start heading off in their own directions for the night.
"Grease!" Logan calls to his friend. "Hey!"
Axel is still watching Jess return to Carson, but finally turns around, taking his time getting back to his friends. "What?"
"Don't act so thrilled," Logan razzes. "Jam session at Mike's on Thursday."
"Alright."
"Oh, and I talked to a guy here who might want Cryptic for a little gig in a few weeks."
"I thought we weren't planning anything for a while."
Logan shrugs. "Didn't think I should pass it up."
Axel gives him a weary grin. "Whatever."
Max comes up behind him, resting an arm casually on his shoulder. "Stealing girls again, or what, man?"
Axel turns to look at him, and shrugs off his arm. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Mm-hmm..." Max quirks an eyebrow. "She's pretty...but looks like she's taken already."
"And you think...?" Axel looks at him with a look of apathy.
"You did snatch her up pretty quick when her boyfriend walked away."
Axel purses his lips, then sets a hand on Max's shoulder, looking him in the eye. "I'd try to explain, but I don't think your brain could comprehend it. So...you just keep thinking you got it figured out if it'll make you happy." He gives him a pat. "Just don't go spreading that wild imagination around. Might get you into trouble sometimes."
Max rolls his eyes as Axel walks away, then shakes his head before joining in another conversation.
Finally Carson gives Jess a little nudge. "If I stay here much longer, I think I'm gonna fall asleep. "Walk you home?"
Jen hears them preparing to leave, and makes a point of seeing them again. "Thanks for coming, guys. It was a lot of fun having you here."
Carson is standing, and looks down at her, cocking his head. "Well...thanks for the invite."
Jen grins. "Would you come again?"
Carson has to think a moment. He expected himself to really say no, but...for some reason, he didn't want to. "I might."
"Good." Jen gives a little wave. "Safe walk home. I'll see you guys around Mom and Pop's probably."
"Yeah, sure." Carson watches Jen join back up with Mike. He'd been expecting an invite or prompt to church...most people in the past had pressured him that way. But Jen hadn't. Interesting. "Alright...let's go."
Jason's eyes fly open for the third time. He rolls over with a groan, knowing what it was this time. "Katie, cut it out," he growls to the dark. Was she doing this on purpose or what? He didn't know. He couldn't tell. But every time the valve to the emotional pull was open again, it woke him up, just to be shut off again. It was like standing at a sink and fooling with the knobs. On, off, on off. He had no idea what Katie was feeling - he never did. He didn't have the ability to know what was setting her off, or ever what it was she was feeling. Her emotions were unreadable to him. But it could only be one of two things... Either she was consciously opening up and closing down again, or something was bothering her enough that she couldn't hold it anymore, then she regained control.
It was starting to bother Jason to think that it was something that was bothering her. Apparently she didn't want him involved, so there wasn't much he could do. But not knowing was killing him. Usually she only lost control when she was upset enough about something, or was startled or scared, to break her concentration. But he was clueless as to what it was this time.
Jason wasn't sure if he was more irritated with being woken up, not knowing what was going on, or just the fact that he was closed off. Feeling a little dizzy, he gets up to drink some juice, then heads back to bed. It was going to be a long night.
"Earth to Jason." Reese waves a hand in front of Jason's face.
"Hmm?"
Reese looks across Jason's desk at his weary eyes. "You okay?"
"Mm-hmm."
"You don't look so hot."
"I don't feel so hot."
Reese's concern grows. He'd been trying to tell Jason to go see Nate about a case they were on, but Jason didn't look well at all. "How about going to see Rick?"
For once, Jason didn't argue. He'd been having dizzy spells all morning, his knees felt weak, and he couldn't think straight. Getting up from his desk, he trudges to his door, but stops. "What was it you wanted?"
"Nevermind. Just go."
Jason lamely obeys, going to the infirmary. He sees Misty and gives a little wave, then looks to Rick. "Hey, doc."
Rick raises his eyebrows. "You look...terrible."
"Oh, thanks." Jason sits on the table.
"Rough night?"
"Awful." Jason sits still as Rick shines a light in his eyes. "I can't think...I keep getting dizzy..."
"Had anything to eat?"
"Yeah...breakfast...glass of OJ about two hours ago."
Rick purses his lips in thought. "Let me check your blood sugar." It only takes a few moments, and Rick shakes his head. "Jase, you're pretty low. No wonder you feel like crap."
"But I had plenty of sugar this morning."
Rick sighs, folding his arms on his chest. "How are you emotions?"
"Just as awful. Katie shut me out as much as she can and it's driving me bonkers."
Rick shrugs. "Well there's your answer."
"What do you mean?"
"She shut you out. What does that do to you?"
Jason shakes his head. "I don't know. It...like...keeps my emotions from getting out I guess. Like a kink in a hose."
"And what did we discover your heightened emotions do?"
"Changes stuff....chemical makeup..."
"Right." Rick nods. "Your emotions aren't going anywhere, so they're affecting your blood sugar like they do when you get upset and they go haywire."
"Oh great."
"Grab some fruit from the breakroom and just keep snacking. It should balance it out."
The Night
*Jess can't help but shake her head as Axel talks. The ton in his voice adding to his words and his smile making anyone believe about how true they could be.
And Jess dances with Axel she gets lost in the music as he guild her around the fire. Her feet moving without her even knowing it.*
"Your some guy you know that? Your actully getting me to dance alright."
*As the music stops and Axel brings Jess hand to her lips her eye dont break from him. There was that look again. That glind that was almost hypantising.
Giving a small bow to Axel Jess smiles as she whispers.*
"It was my pleasure."
*Breaking away from Axel Jess returns to Carson side and sits down. Giving him a smile she nods.*
"Did you have a nice talk with Jen?"
*Leaning into Carson a little bit Jess takes his arm and put it around her giving a smile.*
"You have to keep me warm, I'm getting chilli."
*Jess liked spending time with Carson she always did. Even back in the day She liked to talk to him and be around him. Now it was differnt and Carson was differnt but Jess liked it. Her and Carson got along, they new hope to joke and they just seemed there for eachother. It helped Jess with a new confadince to know that she was wanted by a decint guy.*
*Putting her hands behind her head Katie looks up at the stars twinkling in the night as the crackling of the fire roars next to her. The night was a bit chilli but the fire offered Katie all the warmth she needed the light playing shadows, as they danced on the trees and rocks. Normanl Katie would be enjoying this but not tonight her mind was a million miles away still bouncing one thing to the next. For a moment Katie's mind wanders to Jason wondering what he was doing. She couldnt help but worry he was ok and for a moment Katie wants to open up the connection again but almost as fast as the thought came, it was gone again. No she couldnt, not now not yet. Finally as the night went on and the fire started to die Katie cralwed into her tent and snuggled under the covers trying to get some rest. But good dreams did not come as Katie tossed and turns the nightmairs invading her mind. Once and a while waking her with such a start she lost controll of her block and let some strong feeling slip out only to relize and close it back up trying to fall asleep again.*

Dancing
Stopping with Misty, his hands in hers, Kyle stares back into her eyes. Her asking gave him joy...her glow gave him hope. Friendship was grand. His relationship with Misty was bliss. Knowing that she was perhaps seeking God...that was better than all combined.
Kyle lifts a hand to brush her cheek. "Of course," he promises.
Withdrawing, he pulls Misty to the side, bringing her a little closer to sway to the music. And for once...he lets the humor stay in his eyes without breaking the moment through silly speech.
Axel's mouth curls into the thin smile only he could pull off. His fingers wrap around Jess' hand with a gentle firmness and warmth of someone who could see the nervousness, and desired to melt it away. "My feet are protected by thick boots," he quips. "And you're not heavy enough to do any real damage."
Drawing her around the fire, he nears other couples who are dancing, in an effort to help Jess know he wasn't trying to get her alone. Taking both her hands, he avoids closeness and respects her space, not touching her waist. "Just follow my lead," he directs with a wink. "And don't look down."
Finding the beat of the fairly fast song, Axel minimizes his moves, but at the same time, guides Jess by her hands, skillfully manipulating her own moves by using her balance and countering so she'll follow his steps. Once he's confident that Jess has the pattern, he recalls her statement about the flame.
"Light of a flame is always stronger than darkness," he comments softly as they dance. "Even stars that are millions of miles away eventually pierce the darkness surrounding us so we can see them."
He pauses, staring into Jess' eyes, even while he moves. "Cup your hands around darkness and then let go. The shadows disperse. Cup your hands around the light and then let go. It falls upon even the darkest of corners. The light is there...all you have to do is let go."
As the song comes to and end, Axel slows to a stop. His palms on Jess' had a roughness to them, yet were soft and gentle. Studying her for a couple moments, he finally brings one of her hands to his lips, giving it a light kiss. Then backing up a step and letting her go, he bows with a flourish. "Thank you, melady."
Coming back into the circle of people Carson slips the partial Bible into his pocket. Seeing Jess gone from her seat, he scans the crowd, before finding her with Axel. Carson had kept a watchful eye on Axel...he seemed like an okay guy....nice enough.
Sliding into his ownn seat, Carson waits, keeping his eyes on Jess as she dances. It was nice to see her outside the normal routine. She was slowly gaining back her confidence...the one tool that she'd wielded so well before.
Carson's eyes do wander though, to the other side of the fire, finding Misty, dancing slowly, closely with Kyle. He looks away quickly, finding Jess again. It wasn't worth thinking about...not anymore...Misty was taken.
Jason tosses and turns in bed, unable to find rest. He was so tired, but his mind wouldn't settle down. His head hurt...his emotions were on the verge of going crazy... He just felt...wrong. Every so often, he'd check once more, trying to send a message, just to have the emotions bounce back at him. It was getting more frustrating...but the more Jason tried, the more he realized how much he was missing that connection.
Colors
*As Jess listens to Tom a few feelings stir inside of her. She wasn't sure how to take all this. Sure he hurd of God before and when she was at the Orphanige they went to church but never had she seen someone talk so strongly about him before. Some things she didn't understand. If God loved everyone than why would he let this stuff happend? To her, or anyone. The hand she was delt was the one God wanted her to have? Stairing into the flames of the fire Jess just thinks, wondering...continplating.
As Carson excuses himself Jess nods as she wraps her arms around herself.*
"Ok, I promise I won't run away."
*Jess gives a small fire as she gets lost in thought again the words that were spoken still echoing in her ears and she trys to work them all out.
As Axel stops infront of Jess she dosn't even notice untill he finally speaks. Looking up at him she locks with her eyes as the fire light dances in them. Her train of through broken for now. Continuing to look into Axel's eyes and study his words Jess trys to see if his motives were pure. Looking down at his hands than back to his eyes. *
"You think a flame can burn through a darkness thats so thick?"
*Stairing into the eyes that held ther own mistery it felt like a strong pull. One that someone could not controll. Not one of love, but one that challanged your inner soul to stand up and find who you were. Jess shakes her head and gives a chuckle.*
"I'm not a good dancer at all let alone even been dancing. Are you do you want you feet to deal with that pain?"
*Giving a shake of her head Jess sets her cup down and takes Axel's hand finally giving just a tiny shake of nervousness. This was crazy she couldn't dance.*
*Misty turns her head and smiles back at Kyle. Leaning her forhead aganst his she looks deep into his eyes for a moment. The life, the unexsplanable joy always that flowed through Kyle was...was that the love and the feeling God gave everyone. Searching as if looking for something Misty continues to stair as a smile forms on her face.
Since the first time Kyle had asked her to go to church Misty had gone again, and than not went and than went again. But even she couldnt deny that the weeks she did go it felt like she was renewed, and the week started good. Maybe, maybe slowly she would go more, and maybe this feeling would increase. Could God really love her too, after everything.
Finally giving Kyle a small kiss Misty whispers.*
"You sure can, as long as its slow this time."
*Misty smiles and stands it almost felt like she had tears in her eyes. This feeling she felt it was indescribable, but it felt like a whole new chapter was starting. It felt like the ugly grey colors were being lifted and she could see the bold world again. Misty liked this feeling, and if God was the way to keep it than it couldnt be all that bad.
Stoping for a moment as Kyle and herself walks Misty turns to him and gives a smile again. Though her spark wasnt there, a soft glow of something alse was, not many could detect it, but it was there non the less.*
"Kyle, if its alright can I go to church with you more and when I tell you not this week, can you pick me up anyways and remind me what I would be missing?"
Flame
Carson is just a little off guard, meeting Misty at the table with the drinks, and he finds his eyes staring at her for a moment before awkwardly dropping his gaze. "Um...yeah...I mean..I guess we are." This wasn't really his thing...not when he wasn't comfortable associating with the others who were here. Would he ever gain the feeling back that he had friends here?
He forces a slight chuckle. "You know me...find the nearest corner and be the fly on the wall. No walls around here though I guess."
Picking up a new cup of hot chocolate, he turns, but pauses, looking at Misty again. He was having a good time being more than friends with Jess...they got along well and seemed to click pretty well. But when he looked at Misty, there was just...something.... "You look good."
Carson clears his throat and lowers his eyes again. "See you around. Tell, um... tell Nate hi next time you see him." Being fairly quick, he heads back to Jess to resume his seat. After handing her, the hot chocolate, he drapes an arm around her shoulders. "Wouldn't want you to get cold," he teases.
The fun continues around the fire, some people breaking out in song, all the while the gigles land laughing persisting. A while later, one of the men stands up and walks closer to the fire in view of all, and simply puts a finger to his lips. "Shhhhh....."
Amazingly, the still sound brings the noise down around him, until everyone is quit. A hush falls over the site, all eyes on him. He turns, scanning everyone in the circle for a moment. Though having a straight face, his eyes seem to smile. He points to the fire.
"You know...this fire is a good example of what love is, and what love can do. And I'm not talking any ordinary love... I'm talking about a love so great, that it can touch every single life on this planet."
Carson lifts a skeptical eyebrow. That was Tom...Jen had pointed him out earlier. He was a leader in her church. If he was getting at what Carson thought he was getting at, it wasn't worth listening to.
Tom continues. "This fire will engulf anything you put in it. Wood, plastic, even metal if you get it hot enough. If we didn't have a barrier around it, it would spread and engulf this park." He picks up a stick and catches the end on fire. He makes a point of holding it up. "This is about the size of a human's love, or what we perceive as love. We limit it with pride...judgment...maybe greed. So while perfectly capable of loving unconditionally, we put barriers around our hearts. So the human love....it's bright and glowing, and has the potential to grow. But it's about this size."
He tosses the stick into the bonfire. "That...that's God's love. He has no barriers...He has no pride in the way... no conditions... no judgment. His love is pure, enormous enough for everyone, and once you've been touched by it, you'll always remember it."
Tom paces just a little. "And you know...this fire... it will engulf any kind of wood you throw in there. New, old, pine, maple, smooth or knotty. It'll take it all. God's love takes everyone too. God's love is extended to you..." He catches the eyes of several people. "And it's extended to the beggar down the street. It's extended to the guy with the big house and fancy car... and it's extended to the murder behind bars. We put limits on our love...but not God. It doesn't matter who you are or where you've been...you are not out of reach of God's love. His love is not measurable. And our human minds can't even fathom its depths."
Carson can feel his eyes wandering to the ground. He'd heard about God before...he'd been to church a few times as a kid...but for some reason...some unexplainable reason, Tom's words sent a strange surge into his heart. If only he knew the prayers beside him that were being lifted up, maybe he wouldn't be so surprised.
Tom spreads out his arms. "We can try to understand it...we can try to analyze it... some of us may not even want it! But it's there...God's love is always there. Always. It's never a bad time to accept it, and it's never to late, no matter where you've been. How much does God love you? He sent is only Son to die for you...that says something right there. Jesus didn't die just for people like me... He didn't die for preachers, and do-gooders. He died for every single one of us. The rich, the poor, the lost, the seeking... the sports players, the cheerleaders, the teachers, business men and women, cooks, stay-at-home moms... He died for the faithful, for the unfaithful... for the loving, and for those who have never shown love. The happy, the angry... the sad...the children. Jesus died...for you."
Tom pauses, the passion in his words demanding attention. "I don't care who you are or what you've done... if you don't know the love of Christ..the love of God... then you're truly missing out on the most wonderful thing in life. And though it's never too late as long as you're alive... someday... someday the end will be here, and you'll have never allowed yourself to experience that love. See...it's offered...it's there... but you have to accept it. I can stand outside this fire all day long and look at its beauty. But unless I step into it, I'll never experience it."
He looks around at the faces. Some he knew, some he didn't. He didn't know the hearts of those here, or who was or wasn't walking with God. But he could not hold this message back. "What's been holding you back? What are you afraid of? Giving up freedom? What freedom? Are you not a slave to this world? What are you afraid of? Rejection? God rejects no one. Perod. What is keeping you from stepping closer to the flame and reaching out to the One who holds all the answers? What other people think? Pride? Contentment?"
Tom almost laughs. "I don't care who you are... if you don't have Christ in your life, there is a part of you that feels incomplete. There is a part of you that is searching for answers... longing for purpose... longing for focus. Maybe you've been looking in all the wrong places. Bad habits...failed relationships... but you've never known anything else. You've never been shown the way to the answers you need. Well I'm telling you tonight... it's God's love."
He stops again, waiting. "That's all I'll say for now... but if you have questions... if you're searching, please... please come talk to me. I would so dearly love to tell you more."
A smile is on Kyle's face as Tom goes to sit back down, and he finishes off his hot chocolate. The music starts again, and he glances at Misty. He didn't know what she thought of all this... he hadn't gotten as far to talk too much abut it with her, not wanting to pry or push. But he did wonder how this made her feel.
His smile softens. "May I have this dance?"
Carson leans back on the bench, having resented his strange feelings enough to push them out of the way with annoyance. He tosses his empty cup into the trash can behind them, and gives a little sigh. "Prove it there's a God and maybe I'll listen," he mutters. He hadn't really intended on anyone hearing him, but Jen's head snaps around.
Her eyes lock with his, her own so full of a strange mixture of anger and sorrow. Thinking for a moment, she leans the other way to tell Mike something, then starts to wheel forward. "Carson...come with me."
"What?"
"Please...come with me."
Carson quirks an eyebrow, wondering what she was getting at. He shrugs lamely and stands, looking down at Jess. "Be right back I guess."
Jen starts forward, going to the outside edge of the festivities where one could see everyone there. It's dark out here, and chillier. She shivers a little, but doesn't complain. Stopping, she turns to see the group around the fire. Making sure Carson is with her, she points. "See that young woman out there on the edge...the one with the toddler?"
Carson squints, then nods. "Yeah...so?"
"That's Carrie. And that toddler is Mindy. Mindy was born with a condition that doctors said would kill her. They gave her a zero percent chance of survival."
Carson is a little impressed. "What happened?"
"The church prayed for her." Jen doesn't look up, but picks out another person. "See that man there? With the limp?"
"Yeah."
"That's Jake. He limps because he was in a car accident three years ago. His car was completely crushed. There was no way he should have survived. He came away with only a broken leg."
"Wow."
"See that man down there, talking to Mike?"
Carson shrugs. "It's Phil."
"That's right. He almost succeeded at killing himself once. But someone found him just in time."
"I didn't know..."
"That someone got a call that showed Phil's number, and there was no one there. On a whim, they went to check on him." Tears glisten in Jen's eyes. "Phil hadn't called him." She turns her back on the group and points up to the sky where just a few stars were visible. "Count the stars. How many are there?"
Carson stuffs his hands in his pockets and looks up. "There are too many to count."
"Explain life. Explain a baby's birth. Explain a soul that drives someone forward." Jen looks back to Carson, her eyes of courage piercing his own. "Now. Tell me God doesn't exist."
Carson opens his mouth to retort, but what could he say? There were unexplainable things. She'd just proven that. He could feel his defenses rising. "If there was a God, he should have taken me out of the world a long time ago to save the lives of others." He grits his teeth as unexpected emotions hit him hard. "He should have stopped me from killing... torturing... ruining lives. Do you know how many people have suffered at my hands, Jen?" He holds out his hands. "Do you realize how much blood is on these hands? I have done things to people who wished I would have just killed them off. Men...women... it didn't matter."
Hated tears burn the back of his eyes. "Where was their God? Where was God's love when I was doing that to them?"
A tear runs down Jen's face and she reaches up to lay a hand on Carson's arm. Her voice is soft. "God's love was around you, Carson. He didn't let you die because He loved you too much. You have so much potential...you have so much purpose. I don't know why He let other people suffer... but I do know that He kept you alive for a reason. You did do some awful, awful things. But Carson Banks..." Her eyes meet his. "You are not out of God's reach."
In a rare moment, Carson can't hold his stare, and backs down from Jen's eyes. He blinks back his emotions.... emotions that he didn't understand. He'd never felt like this before. It was stupid, but he couldn't deny that something was affecting him. "I can't find the answers," he responds lamely. "I just keep...going around in circles. I don't understand it. I don't know how it works. I don't know where I fit."
Jen reaches into a pocket on her wheelchair and pulls out a leather New Testament, holding it up to him. "Try reading this."
Carson takes, it, but then hesitates. "But this is yours."
Jen shrugs. "I can get another one."
"But I can't..."
"Then it's a loan. Take it, Carson. Read it. If you get through with it, and you still refuse to believe you are loved...if you still insist on looking elsewhere for your answrs... then I'll never bring it up to you again."
"Never, huh?"
"You have my word."
Her confidence was startling, and Carson's fingers tighten around the small book. "You seem to know something I don't."
Jen can't help her smile. "It's all in there."
Axel twirls Taylor around again, after she'd begged him for another round. Losing her to another guy though, he's left without a partner. A young woman is quick on the uptake, tapping his shoulder, and holding out her hands. He gives in, dancing with her for a few minutes too, making their way around the fire. As another man steals her away too, Axel looks down and realizes that he's stopped near Jess. She was alone.
Caution going by way of the smoke, he stretches out his hand, still breathing a little heavily from the activity. He locks eyes with her. "Sometimes it takes dancing near the flame to ignite your own light."
More the Merrier
*Jess smiles up at Carson as he stands.*
"Mmmm...I'd like that. Thank you."
*As Carson walks away Jess eyes follow him. She felt a little strange being here around more people than just Carson, but she felt comfortablt knowing Carson with with her. Everyone seemed nice here though she did notice some people from the first time they met it made Jess cheek turn red a little. That had not been a good first incounter.*
*Misty's laugh rings through the camp as Kyle pulls her up to dance. Though she had never been good at it, it was one thing she loved to do and having Kyle as a partner it helped not bring notice to her mistakes.*
"Kyle....I can't breath...."
*As Misty continues to dance with Kyle being turned around and laughing at the same time she gasps for air but loves every moment of it.
Finally coming to a halt as Kyle's eyes are on Tylor and Axel Misty's own drifts to Carson and than to Jess next to him. He looked happy, and Jess looked a lot better than when she saw her before. It made Misty smile knowing Carson was ok and someone was looking after him.
Giving Kyle's arm a pat she smiles.*
"I'm going to go get something to drink. Do you want anything?"
*Heading over to the table Misty is quiet for a moment. Wanting to say something to Carson but not sure what. Finally she gets up the gumption.*
"It's nice to see you came tonight, and brought Jess with you. The more the merrier with these guys. Are you enjoying yourself?"
*Misty goes to pour herself another glass.*
Dance
Clint nods absentmindedly at Wendy, stopping his train of thought just for a moment at her comment about love being dropped in someone's lap.
Glancing to her as she finishes, he sighs. "Yeah... I think Jason doesn't realize a lot of things about him and Katie. I remember when I told him it was possible to just be friends with her. At the time, I was right... problem is, things change."
Jason sits behind his desk, trying to concentrate on work, but it's just not going that way. He'd planned on going home tonight and not coming in to TJY, but he just hadn't felt like it. Dealing with Reese hadn't been too fun, informing him that Katie hadn't come back yet, nor did he know when she would. Why Jason got the brunt of it, he didn't know...he hadn't told her to stay, and he didn't even know why she did or what she was doing! But telling that to Reese hadn't done a whole lot of good.
Leaning back in his chair, he taps his pencil on his desk. He'd been invited to go to a bonfire tonight, but had declined. He felt...too..... something. It was weird. Not having the continual pull on his emotions, they were starting to build up a little bit, and it didn't feel good. He'd never been able to feel Katie like she could feel him... but he could tell when something was different, and this wasn't fun. Why was she doing this? If she'd wanted alone time, he wouldn't have pried into her privacy or interrupted her with his own thoughts. Why couldn't she have just told him what was going on? He wasn't really upset with her...it just..... He didn't know what it felt like. But having his friend push him away like that just didn't set right with...
He gives a little start. Like a hose being released, then immediately kinked again, his emotional flow experiences a slight jolt. That was odd. He concentrates...groping for something... but there was nothing. He tries a message, but it comes slinging back with force, making him cringe. Nothing had changed...but why had there been a shift?
Sighing, Jason stands up. He was going home. He had to try and sleep or something before he went crazy.
Laughter and chatter rings out around the bonfire at the park. It was a dark and cold night, but the hot chocolate was keeping bodies warm, while the gaiety kept spirits warm. S'mores were a must and were created and eaten by anyone from ten years old to seventy. It wasn't that large of a group, but big enough to see the diversity and enjoy the company of those around.
Carson sits on a bench a short ways from the fire, Jess on one side, Jen then Mike on the other. He holds a styrofoam cup in his hand of the warm drink, and glances over to Jen, who was in her wheelchair. "So...when were you going to tell me this was a church event?"
Jen looks at him and shrugs. "Just because it's hosted by the church doesn't mean anything, does it? Bother you?"
"No..." Carson looks back at the fire, though his tone indicates that he suspected different motives of Jen.
She gives him a little smile. "Does it scare you that much?"
"Ha!" Carson shakes his head. "Religion never scared me. Just ticks me off."
"Who said anything about religion?"
Carson quirks an eyebrow, not knowing how to answer that one. Someone's shout and laughter breaks up their conversation. He shifts his concentration, moving his leg to bump Jess' knee teasingly. He and she hadn't gone out for group activities before, and it was just a little different...but he did enjoy having her there. He wouldn't have come at all, had he not promised Jen weeks ago that he would, but it wasn't so bad, even if she and Mike were the only ones he'd been conversing with, other than Jess. One factor that kept distracting him though, was the couple on the other side of the fire...
Kyle's joking brings another round of laughter from the group on their side of the circle around the fire. Phil was with them, and so was all of Cryptic.
Max laughs too much at something Kyle said and winds up spitting half his hot chocolate out, making the whole thing even funnier. "Aww!"
"You alright over there man?" Logan hollers.
"No! I got chocolate up my nose!"
Taylor almost dies laughing. "You look hilarious!"
Max smirks at her. "Thanks a lot."
Someone back by the tables turns on some music, livening things up even more. Kyle's eyes widen. He sets his cup down and jumps up, grabbing Misty's hands to pull her up too. Taking one hand in his, and putting his other around his waist, he swings her around, dancing to the music. His eyes sparkle in the light of the fire, his grin from ear to ear as his anitcs continue.
His action is the first in the chain of events, and soon, others are up dancing too.
Jen looks over to Carson once more, following his gaze. She wasn't sure what he was thinking...it was different to see him with a woman...he seemed like he was happier than he was...but there was still a spark missing. "Penny for your thoughts."
Before Carson even thinks, the words are out. "He makes her laugh, doesn't he?"
Jen knew that Kyle could make anyone laugh. But that wasn't the point. The point was, that Kyle was giving Misty something Carson never had - uninhibited attention. "Yes...he does."
"Well..." Carson stands up, sipping the last of the cocoa from his cup. "Time for another round." He glances down to Jess. "Want any more?"
Axel's eyes roam the firesite, continually coming back to the four across the way. Mike and Jen hadn't separated themselves from Phil, Kyle, and Cryptic to be anti-social, and it appeared they'd just ended up on the other side. Axel could tell though, that the two were making an effort to make Carson and Jess comfortable in this setting. Carson and Jess... Axel could see something was different than the first time he'd seen those two. He'd observed them a little bit over the last couple weeks, just briefly a time or two at Mom and Pop's. Two who had obviously not had a relationship before, were apparently now together. It was interesting. Even more interesting though, was the way Carson kept looking over here at Kyle and Misty. Axel didn't know the whole story, but his imagination told him a lot.
"Hey, you gonna dance with me or what?" Taylor holds out her hands.
Axel looks up at her, and gives her a small grin. "What... in public? You kidding?"
"Come on," Taylor begs. "Nobody else will. Not even Rocky."
"So I'm last pick again."
"Well I knew you wouldn't want to."
"You're smart."
"Oh, please, Axel? For me?" Taylor sticks out her lower lip. "One song?"
Axel gives a little sigh. "Dance, huh?" He slowly stands up, taking Taylor's hands. "Alright..." A sudden flash crosses his eyes as his ears pick up the upbeat song.
Taylor's own eyes widen as she realizes her mistake. "Ohhh, no, not...." She starts to be swung around. "You turkey, I didn't want a workout!"
"Too late." Axel twirls her far enoug away from the fire that they have room, and doesn't hold back. Expertly leading, he takes her into dance moves that no novice could pull off, his feet, kicking up the dust on the ground. Spinning and stepping in patterns, Axel guides Taylor around, skillfully making her look as though she knew as much as he, even though she didn't.
It's inevitable that not a full minute later, others have stopped dancing just to watch them, clapping, and laughing.
Not everyone
*Looking up at the sky Katie lets out a long sigh. It felt strange not having Jason's emotions coming in and out of her full force like normal, but Katie had to do this. Her own mind was a mess now and she couldn't let Jason feel this adding to his own.
Trudging forward Katie comes to a clearing only about halfway up the mountain. Smelling rain in the air Katie stops putting her bag on the ground. The would be a good spot to put up her tent and build a fire for tonight.
Hearing a coyotie howl in the distince Katie raises her head to the sound. The howl was far enough away for now, but if she didn't want to be on tonights menu she better get the fire started soon.
Setting her stuff down and opening up her tent it takes no time to get it up. Putting her bags inside Katie heads off into the direction of some trees to find some wood. Gathering up a bunch of wood Katie starts to head back the way she came only to get her foot caught on a root and twist her ankle sending her into a pile of thorn bushes. Leating out a gasp for a moment Katie opend her emotions and lets a few feelings of pain slip through only to close them off once again. Looking down at her hands and the wood that was now scattered again Katie rolls her eyes. Standing gently She trys to walk on get foot to only feel pain through it. Bringing a hand to her mouth she whipes away a big of blood from her split open lip.*
"Way to go Katie."
*Bending down Katie gathers the wood once again and slowly makes her back to her camp sight to start a fire and get something to eat.*
*Wendy takes a sip of water just listing to Clint for a moment about everything that was going on. It was strange for Katie to just take off even if she wasnt doing to well.*
"She might have. No one knows those moutains better than she does. Maybe in a day or two she will be back. She might of just needed some alone time."
*Wendy turns to Clint her eyes showing she wasnt as confadent as she sounded.*
"I just feel so bad for her you know? After everything she has been through. Scott, Jason...its has to be hard. I guess not everyone is lucky enough to have love fall in there lap."
*Wendy gives a small shrug trying not to draw attachen to what she just said as she takes a bit of her dinner and glances to Rosetta.*
"I wish she would of at least told Rosetta where she was going. She looks so worryed. I guess all we can do now is pray that Katie will be ok and will find peace. We should probely pray for Jason too. I know he must feel lost without her. I don't think he relizes just how much she ment to him."
Alone
A little concern, Jason nods to Wendy. “Okay. Well…I’ll see if she shows up for lunch. If not, I’ll go make sure she’s alright and ready to leave.”
But as he turns to go get something from his backpack, Jason suddenly receives a batch of emotions that he tries to decipher. Caught off guard, it takes him a moment. As the message registers, he furrows his brow. Katie wasn’t coming back with him? He maybe understood she didn’t want to go back, but…still… and where would she be that he couldn’t find her? He didn’t get it.
Turning to the door, he takes several steps. Katie, I…
He stops, sucking in his breath and reaching out to steady himself with a chair. His emotions bounced back at him like a tennis ball thrown at a wall. What on earth… He tries to clear his mind, slowing down his own pace as he just stands, ignoring what’s going on around him, and shaking his head a little.
Like a water valve, he’d been shut almost completely off from Katie. She was only letting enough of his emotions in so that he didn’t become too overwhelmed to handle it, but it was enough to make him uncomfortable. He wasn’t used to this…it didn’t feel right. Why was she doing this? Aside from confused, Jason was a little hurt. Katie had never shut him out like this before on purpose. She’d blocked specific things that had made her uncomfortable before, but…not like this.
Jason swallows hard and sinks down into a chair. Was she in that bad of shape? What was she planning to do? Where was she going? Yet…why was he asking? She obviously didn’t want him to know.
“Hotshot, you alright?”
Jason looks back to Clint and tries to nod. “Yeah…yeah, I’m okay… just had a little dizzy spell.”
Glancing at his watch, he gets up again. He at least felt like he was owed more than Katie had given him. Heading out, he aims for the bunk that she’d stayed in. Groping for feelings, he senses nothing. Knocking on the door, he waits…. No answer. Just deciding to go ahead and enter, Jason does, finding the bunk empty. The only thing there is Katie’s cell phone on the dresser.
Gone. She was gone. And she’d purposely left her whereabouts unknown from everyone…from Jason.
His fingers tighten around the phone before setting it back down. Fine.
…Jason stares out the plane window at the dark skies. The sun was trying to break through the clouds, but wasn’t having much luck.
Sighing, Jason settles back in his seat, then looks across the aisle. He felt empty…almost lonely. He wasn’t used to being alone quite like this…he felt…vulnerable in a sense…lost. He hadn’t realized until now how much he was used to feeling the steady draw on his emotions. Without it, they just wanted to scatter, bouncing in every direction and adding to his confusion.
He leans his head to the window and closes his eyes. Rest… rest would be good before getting back to Nevada. And he had to figure out a good reason to tell Reese why Katie wasn’t back with him.
Clint fools with his fork in his food, giving a little sigh. He looks to Wendy, just a little worried. “So that’s it? Jason said she just took off, and that’s all we know? Rosetta didn’t even know? Mick said he would guess she went to the mountain…but do you think she’d really do that?
9/23/08
Goodbye
Katie stands with her bags pack her heart acked more than ever. She was ready to go back, but at the same time she felt the same maybe even a little worse than before. Her mind still raced about Scott and that thought of going home or back to the office and him not being there hurt. Yes Scott and she were going there septet ways but they would still stay friends and now, now Katie couldn’t even have that. Her friend was gone, and Katie just wanted to be alone.
Looking out the window the dark clouds only added to Katie’s mood. Glancing to the mountains they had a strange look about them. Something called to her…the mountains, quiet, peace maybe that’s where she needed to go. To be away from anyone to be alone to just get lost.
Wendy looks to Clint and than back to Jason not sure if she should say anything or not. But in case it ment anything Wendy thought it best.
"I saw Katie last night. I went to talk to her a little bit before bed. I had hardly seen her at all this hole time she had been her and I felt just a little bit worryed. I guess I take after my mother. Anyways we talked about a lot of things and a lot of differnt people..."
Wendy's eyes drift back to Jason for a moment before breaking away.
"...she seemed sad when I left her but she reasured me she was ok. That was the last time I saw her."
Grabbing her bag and the bag with some food she packed Katie places her cell phone on the dresser and slips out of the bunk house. Moving along he back Katie is quiet and silent bring no notice to herself. Moving alone till she came to the path that the last time it was used was when she and Scott had taken the journey. Stopping at the entrance Katie looks back at the ranch and just scans the area. She new her aunt would be worried and maybe Jason would be upset, but this was what Katie wanted. She lost someone she loved, and she had to look at someone she wanted to love but refused the feelings back day after day. Maybe being alone was how she was meant to travel. The last thing Katie had to do was shut off her feelings, her emotions to Jason but still let a little slip through as to not kill him but before she did that she had to at least let him know so he didn’t too much. She couldn’t just leave like that not to him. Mustering up a few bits of pure and true emotions that she could Katie closes her eyes letting the soft wind blow through her hair.
Jason, I’m not going back to Nevada with you. I’m not ready to be back in the office yet. I just, I can’t. I’m sorry. I don't want to bring everyone down with me. It's just better this way. I just wanted to let you know so when you went looking for me and couldn’t find me you didn’t worry.Goodbye J, thank you for everything and I’m sorry.
Slowly Katie opens her eyes and before she can even get a reply from Jason, Katie slowly shuts her mind off but leaves a tiny space open. Though the space was there it was too small to let any feeling through either way it was just enough to keep Jason alive.
Taking one last look around the ranch Katie turns and heads behind the trees and up the path to reach the mountain and climb its peeks breaking her self off from the world.
Jess sits in one of the first booths thumbing through a news paper as she waits for Carson to get on one of his breaks. Stopping at the apartment add she skims through them looking for anything that sounds interesting. Stopping at one she takes a pen and highlights it.
2 bedroom, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen, full living room and dinning room, second floor with balcony, $650 a month.
Jess nods her head back and forth to herself remembering to keep that in mind and gives the number a call later.
She had been to 3 apartments before this one and came up all empty handed on them because of her past. This one here was closed, looked nice, and was about in her price range. Not to mention it was two bedroom and bathroom so if she had to she could find a room mate. Maybe, just maybe this time she would have better luck.
Giving a sigh Jess takes a sip of her water and leans her head back in the booth just trying to collect her thoughts for a moment. Life was starting to get better but it was still less than normal. Jess still sometimes had nightmares when she went to bed, and sometimes was a little jumpy, but she was trying her best to look to the bright side of things even if it was really hard at times to keep her head up at least she was trying.
Time flies
Jason’s grin spreads as he watches Katie. He was still so amazed with this room himself, and was more than happy to show it to his best friend.
Seeing her pause at one of the pictures, he makes a point not to draw attention to it. He saw that look in her eye…he recognized it, and had felt it himself.
Moving on, he comes up beside her as she stands, looking out the window. He cross his arms, and just scans the outdoors. “Yeah, it is pretty amazing, isn’t it? I just can’t believe that Wes and everybody else would do something like this for me.”
Glancing down, he waits to catch Katie’s eye. “Thanks for a good secret. It was worth it.”
As his eyes roam her face, a lump rises in his throat as a longing tugs at his heart. But like a parent might grab a youngster from running off, he takes hold of those feelings to pull them back inside.
Finally he pries his eyes away and clears his throat. “Well…I was thinking about coming back to the ranch…hang out…see Clint…see Austin.” He turns and heads for the door. “I’ll walk with you if you don’t mind.”
…Jason enters the back of the mess hall, setting his backpack down on the floor and glancing around. It was nearing lunchtime…he didn’t feel like leaving yet… the last two days had flown by. But the plane would be waiting, and so was home and work the next morning.
He’d enjoyed his visit more than he thought he would. Though he still didn’t feel as rejuvenated as he’d like…and though he could spend another week here just unwinding, it was better than nothing. He’d spent quality time with his mom…gotten to know Kaylee better…and Wes too. Time with Austin hadn’t been anything too special. Now that Jason was older, there was a strange tension there…but it hadn’t been all that bad. Seeing everyone else too had been a treat, and hanging out with Clint in the shop had actually been fun.
“Yo, Jase! You leaving us, man?”
Jason looks across the room to see Clint and Wendy as they waited for lunch. He ambles over and nods. “Yep…looks like it. Soon anyway. I’ll stick around for lunch, but then I gotta hightail it out of here.” He glances around. He hadn’t seen much of Katie the last couple days. Though he hadn’t been too surprised, it had felt just as little odd. “Seen Katie?”
“Not this morning.”
Glow
*Katie can't help but giggle a little as Kaylee grabs onto Jason's finger. Feeling the warm feeling from Jason helped Katie smile even more. It was nice to feel this from Jason to see him happy about his sister.
After Cindy takes Kaylee from Katie she sits down at he table with Jason. The breakfest kept light and the smiles going around. Talking was nice about a little bit of everything.
Once finises and receiving the invitation Katie is quiet for a moment. She remembered what was sent and the pictures given. She wasent sure if it was a good idea to go or not. But seeing the look on Jason's face and feeling the pride for his new room Katie couldent say no.*
"Sure, I'd love to J."
*Standing from the table Katie follows Jason to his room.
Stepping inside Katie cant help but stair at the murle on the wall for a long moment.*
"Wow..."
*Moving slowly around the room Katie looks at everything running her fingers over the pictures she remembered sending, her fingers stoping for a moment as they come to a picture of Scott. Katie can feel the emotions welling inside of her but inseted of leting them free Katie bottles them up and moves on running her fingers over the wood carving.*
"The time is must of took..."
*And than moving to the guitars a smiels spreads across her face and looking out the window Katie stands in aw looking at the moutains.*
"Oh..Jason....this is so amazing."
*Katie turns to looks at Jason the sun light shining in the window lighting up Katie almost giving her a soft glow.*
?
Jason studies Katie as she holds Kaylee, wondering what's going through her mind. He'd seen the hesitance there, and felt just a little jolt...just enough to notice. What was it?
Seeing her with his sister, a smile spreads and he walks up to them both, reaching his hand down. Once more, Kaylee spots his finger and latches on. Jason chuckles and moves his hand, but she refuses to let go.
Cindy walks past with some breakfast to set on the table and she laughs. "She got you again."
"I guess she did." The warm feeling spreads through Jason again and he glances down to Katie, aware that she probably knew what he was feeling at the moment. He didn't hide it though...it felt too good.
"Alright..." Cindy comes back and offers to take Kaylee. "Breakfast is on."
After a prayer, the meal is eaten, conversation light with some laughter, the atmosphere so homey... so peaceful... so warm.
As they're finishing up, Jason leans back in his chair, and looks down the hall, then to Katie. "Want to see the finished project your grand secret contributed to?"
Little one
*As Jason opens the door Katie looks back into his own eyes. Like a spund thirsting for water is felt like Katie was being fed the emotions and made her feel a tiny be rejuvanated. Giving a small smile and steping in Katie replys to Jason.
I told you not to worry about. You were fine.
Giving another small smile the best she can Katie walks in father. This had been the first time she'd even been in the house before and she couldnt help but look around in ah. Wes did a grand job on the house indeed.
Seeing Cindy and receveing her greeting Katie gives a little smile to her and a wave.*
"Morning. Thank you for leting me come over for breakfest. You home is very pretty."
*Continuing to follow Jason into the kitchen and seeing Wes with the little bundle in his arms she can't help but smile a little more hearing the gigalling sounds emited from it. For a moment Katie almost feels stuned thrown back in time to when she first saw her baby brother.*
*Seeing Katie, Wes stands the smile on his face growing even more. Walking over twords Katie he bends down just a little.*
"Katie this is Kaylee, Kaylee this is Katie."
*Moving her head slowly Katie looks down at the small baby. The big blue eyes looking back at her with wonder. *
"Want to hold her Kaite?"
*Receving no answer Wes looks to Jason for a moment and than back to Katie.*
"Katie..."
*Hearing Wes voice snaps Katie out of her trance of though as she looks back up at him.*
"I'm...sorry what was that?"
*Wes gives a smile and holds Kaylee out to her.*
"Would you like to hold her?"
*Katie looks at Wes for a moment and almost says no but changes her mind trying to clear her head of thoughs and gives a small nod reaching out and taking Kaylee from him.*
"Hi Kaylee."
*Katie gently rocks the small bundle and brings her finger up to the small baby's hand touching the tiny fingers of the child and her looks back at Katie and moves her tiny lips and her eyes scan Katie's own. The smile on Katie's face spreads as she just watches Kaylee*
Breakfast
Jason waits, almost afraid either he'd woken Katie up, or she'd shut him out. Getting her response though, he feels a little better and looks back up to his mom. "She'll come."
Cindy's eyebrows lift. "That's it?"
Jason gives a short laugh. "Well what did you expect?"
"I...don't know." Cindy cocks her head. "Do you...hear...."
"Words?" Jason shakes his head. "No. It's... just... emotions." He shrugs lamely. "It's like another language... hard to explain."
Kaylee crying interrupts them and Cindy sets her spatula down. "Well, someone is up. Watch these eggs, will you?"
"Yeah." Jason takes over the stove for a few minutes until Cindy has taken care of Kaylee, passed her off onto Wes, then returned to the breakfast.
Jason is just ready to sit at the table, when he feels his emotions speed up just a little. Like a magnet getting closer to a pile of paperclips, the emotional pull increases. "I'll get it." He heads for the door.
Cindy turns around, bewildered. "Get...what..."
There's a knock at the door. She can't help the surprise on her face and looks to Wes. If Jason weren't her own son, she might be thinking this was just a little too weird for comfort.
Jason is to the door right when Katie knocks, and opens it for her. Looking at her for just a moment, he studies her eyes, trying to figure out how she was feeling. The spark still wasn't there...it was still dim...it would be a while.
Jason had worked last night at not giving her too much to think about. After the awkward scene in the mess hall, he'd felt ridiculous, hadn't wanted to deal with anything he'd felt from it, and had shut it out so he didn't have to think about it.
Sorry about last night. I wasn't thinking...I shouldn't have put you in that position, so I apologize.
He almost felt as if he was apologizing for the feelings for Katie that had seeped out, even though his gut told him that it was really what she wanted. He just felt...clumsy and stupid. But now wasn't the time.
"Morning." A smile creases his lips and he steps out of the way. "Come on in. Breakfast is just ready."
Cindy leans back so she can see the door, and smiles. "Good morning, Katie! Make yourself at home, hun, we're just getting started."
Jason leads the way to the kitchen table where Wes is holding Kaylee. "I guess proud papa can show off the baby," he teases, throwing Katie a wink.
Restless
*Wendy quirks a smile.*
"Count me in but I want to be Jeff's partner so I am on the winning team."
*Wendy can't help but laugh and run her foot alone Clint's under the table.*
*As Katie walks along the outskirts of the ranch she trys to let her emotions go floating on the wind. Her mind sifts, and her feelings move trying to ride her mind of the darkness she had told Trent about. It just seemed so hard with so much to think about. Making her rounds and coming to her bunk Katie makes her way up the pourch put turns before going inside. Looking up at the moon and the twinking starts Katie whispers.*
"Goodnight Scott, where ever you are. Grant me some good luck huh? I'm not doing all that grand at the moment."
*Finally going inside Katie gets into bed completely exsausted. Laying down she toss and turns well into that night till rest finally comes but its far from peacful.*
And so the night draws on covering those in darkness for sleep to come. But like every darkness sooner or later there is light peeking over the moutain tops. Chasing away the shadows and offering hope of a new day to the hopless that maybe it will be better than the last.
*Getting out of the shower Katie runs a towle through her hair and looks into the mirror for a moment. Her eyes were puffy from lack of sleep the night before she woke about every half hour, and it took her another 15 minutes each time to fall back to sleep. Shaking her head and going back into the other room to slip she shoes on Katie recives Jason message. Thinking for a moment Katie dosn't answer right away. Maybe going to Jasons and seeing Kaylee would help her feel a little better. Not to mention Katie didn't feel much like eating with a crowd.
Sure let me get my shoes on and I will head on over.
Finishing tieing up her shoes Katie heads out of the bunk and heads for the short lane to Wes and Cindy's. The morning was cool and Katie's hair still being wet gave her even more of a chill. Pulling her hoodie up over her hair Katie stuffs her hands in her pockets and heads for the house.
After minutes pass and what almost felt like hours Katie reaches the quiet house. Making her way to the pourch she knocks softly at the door though know she didnt need to because Jason probley already new she was there.*
Breakfast?
Clint laughs. “I know, I know.” He grins and waves to Katie. “Night, Katie. Sleep good.”
Jason’s eyes follow her out. No stress… just… oh… goodnight, Hero.
“Who’s up for cards?” Clint reaches over and steals the deck from Jeff.
Jason slips inside the house, seeing that the light is still on in the living room.
Cindy looks up from her resting place against Wes. “Hey, Hun. Did you see everyone?”
“Yeah, mostly. Thought I’d hit the hay now.”
“Alright. If you can’t find something, holler.”
It’s not much later that the house is quiet. Jason lies on his bed, staring out to the end of the room where the moon was shining in through the window. He tried not to think about his emotions…he tried not to think about Scott…he tried not to think about Katie. He just wanted to rest for once…just rest… just…sleep…
Kaylee’s cries echo from the room across the hall. Jason’s door was halfway open, and he sits up straight in bed, for a moment, trying to get his bearing. What on earth? Then he remembers where he was. It was the middle of the night…and that was his sister crying.
He hears his mom get up, and hears her gentle voice trying to sooth Kaylee back to sleep. But after a while, it’s apparent that his mother’s efforts weren’t working very well tonight.
Cindy paces the baby’s room with Kaylee in her arms, rocking her gently, and talking, trying to stop the crying. “Shh….Kaylee…” she whispers. “Come on, hun…shhh…”
Suddenly she stops, hearing…music? Walking to the door, still rocking Kaylee, the music gets a little louder, though is still soft. A mellow melody is quietly picked out on an acoustic guitar, the notes gently drifting though the night air. Then the words that accompany come with such a sweet voice, to lull anyone.
"Little baby, don’t you cry.
Your mamma’s here by your side.
So dry your tears, don’t be afraid.
Shut your eyes and dream again.
Look at the stars in the sky,
The moon is smiling down on you.
The clouds have all gone away,
Sleep now, little babe.
Tiny baby, don’t you fret,
Love is here, oh don’t forget.
Arms to hold you close tonight,
Just close your eyes and see the light.
Look at the stars in the sky,
The moon is smiling down on you.
The clouds have all gone away,
Sleep now, little babe.
Yeah look at the stars in the sky,
The moon is smiling just for you.
The clouds have all blown away,
Sleep now…little babe."
Looking down, Cindy suddenly realizes that Kaylee is sleeping soundly in her arms. Shaking her head with a smile on her face, she returns to lay the baby down in the crib once more. All is quiet the rest of the night.
Jason yawns and stretches, shuffling down the hall towards the kitchen.
Cindy looks up from the stove where eggs are cooking and she smiles. “Morning, sleepy!”
Jason grins. “Morning,” he mumbles.
“Hungry?”
“I think so.” Jason heads to the fridge. “Orange juice?”
“In the door.” Cindy keeps cooking. “You can eat here or at the ranch…it’s up to you.’
“Oh, I’ll stay.” Jason pauses, the juice carton in hand. He’d thought a little bit this morning, and was a little hesitant, but wanted it. “Would you mind some extra company?”
“No. Who?”
“Thought I’d ask Katie to join us. I wanted her to meet Kaylee.”
“Sure!” Cindy smiles. “Speaking of which, I think your sister likes your voice.”
Jason grins a little as he finds a glass for his juice.
Cindy points to the phone. “I don’t know where Katie was bedding down, but you can call up to Mick and Rosetta’s. The number is there.”
Jason takes a swig of juice and shakes his head. “I don’t need to.”
Cindy stops for a moment and lifts an eyebrow, skeptical, even though her son had explained the evening before.
Jason’s eyes focus on nothing for a moment, looking as though he’s lost in a stare. Hey Katie…Mom’s got breakfast on…Want to come over? Meet Kaylee too?
Taunt
*Feeling Jeson's lips aganst her own and than feeling his rush of emotions send Katie into a topsy tervy spin of emotion with in herself. She thought she would be ok but after that kiss that didnt even last long it sent more emotions to run haywire inside Katie.
Masking the emotion of confustion Katie gives a small smile and nods to Jason and than look to Clint.*
"Never taunt a guy who wont lose, they stop at nothing you know."
*Katie shakes her head and gives a small smile. It felt like the walls in the room for a moment were caving in. It almost felt like it was hard to breath though there was much space. Maybe Katie just needed the fresh air.
Standing again Katie gives a yawn though she wasn't very tired. Giving Jason a pat on the should a mentil emotions drifts on the wind to him as she talks to the other saying something alse.
It's ok J, don't stress over it. It's ok.*
"Well I think I am gonna head out maybe talk a walk than head to bed. I am sure I will see you guys again. Have a great night and thanks for the welcome."
*Kaite bundles up her hoodie once again and heads for the door steping out into the cool night air that felt good on her warm skin. Taking in a deep breath Katie trys to clear her mind of the rampid emotions.*
Winner
“Ohhh, you’re mean.” Clint grimaces at Wendy. “How can I have any fun with you around, hmm?” He gives her shoulders a squeeze. “All I want is for everyone to be thanked proper like.”
Jason rolls his eyes. He received Katie’s message just fine, but made no physical action to show it. “Give it up, Clint. It’s a losing game.”
“Ha!” Clint sits straighter, puffing himself up. “I never lose!” He bangs his hand on the table. “Now come on! Thank the poor girl. I can’t do it for you!”
“Clint, behave yourself.” Jeff walks behind him and slaps the back of his head.
“What?!”
“You’re cruisin’ for a bruisin’ and you know it,” Jeff warns, pulling out a chair. “I wouldn’t push that guy.”
“Aw.” Clint waves him off. “Jason wouldn’t hurt a fly… Ow!” He looks across the table after getting kicked in the leg. “What was that for?”
Jason shrugs. “Good measure?”
Clint smirks. “You’re just scared of kissing Katie, that’s all. Afraid she’ll slap you?”
Jason shakes his head. “What is with you tonight?”
“It was getting thrown into a pile of chairs I think.” Clint rubs his elbow. “Payback time.”
“At whose expense?”
“Yours?”
Jason’s eyes narrow. “You’re on thin ice.”
Clint grins. “I’m prepared to plunge. But apparently you’re not.”
“Clint! Cut it out!”
“I will if you just give in! I’m out for blood man! I’m not in the mood to lose this one!”
Jason’s eyes narrow. He hated to lose, but he was fed up with the razzing too. And it was his own fault. If he hadn’t started this whole thing with Wendy, Clint wouldn’t have started in on him. Then Katie didn’t even mind. What was he thinking?
Glancing to Katie, he shakes his head. Clint is a moron. Leaning over, he cocks his head and places his lips gently against hers. But even the lightest of kisses with Katie opens the floodgates of emotions, and for a split second, it’s a rush that Jason can’t manipulate. Pulling away is the only way to stop it and he does, trying ever so hard not to let his face get red in front of the others. He shouldn’t have done that… he was made vulnerable once again and he knew good and well that Katie had just felt too much of his own feelings once again.
“Ha!” Clint throws his hands in the air. “Winner, once again!”
Jason tries to laugh, but it’s weak. “Shut up.”
Last week
*For a moment Katie look between Clint and Jason not to sure what was going on or what she was being thanked for. Finally have it revealed Katie remembers and gives a small nods as she thinks of the pictures she put in the room even the ones of Scott. Giving a sigh she trys to stay calm at least they were good memories.*
"Your welcome J. I'm glad you liked it."
*Looking back at the table and than to Jason again she searches his eyes receiving his men til message once again.
Not like I would mind a kiss much from you, but its ok if you don't.
Katie gives a small smile showing that it really was ok if he didn't. The last thing she wanted to do was put Jason on the spot.*
*Wendy gives a slap to Clint arm in a playful tone.*
"Would you leave him be your embarrassing him. Don't make me bring up what happend to you last week in the shop now."
*Wendy cant help but grin at Clint and than stick out her toung playfuly.*
