Wen't human

*Turning around Rosetta looks at Jeff and shakes her head pointing a spoon at him.*

"And let me guess you stood there and laughed at him right?"

*Turning back around and gives one last stir Rosetta puts the spoon down and whipes her hands on the towle.*

"Well let hope that bean sprout in there dosn't eat it all before Mick comes in."

*Going to the cubord Rosetta pulls out some plates and grabs and extra one for Jeff along with BJ's frog plate. Setting the table she nods to the napkins behind Jeff.*

"I think he might eat us out of house and home. He's growing so fast."

*Rosetta gives a small chuckle and takes the napkins from Jeff placing them on the table.*

"But ya know, I wouldn't change it for the world Jeff. Except maybe not taking on cyclone. That horse I tell ya, and that husband of mine bless his heart and not giving up."

*Giving a smile Rosetta goes back to the stove and checks the dinner.*

"Oh, I won't let Mick know you told me."

*Rosetta gives a chuckle again.*

*Instead of sitting down right away Wes come up behind Cindy and wraps his arms around her resting his head on the top of hers for a moment. Than finally he goes to sit down kicking off his shoes.

Wes loved coming home to the house. It was hard to believe before he was married to Cindy he was living out of his shop in a small dirty room. How everything had changed for the best since than and how happy he was.*

*Most of the ride Katie is quiet just looking out the window. She didnt know what to say, she wasnt sure about anything. Not paying much mind to when Jason bumped her. It didn't bother her being close to him. As saspected the ride was long and quiet.

Once geting out of the taxi and standing in the drive way with her bag Katie is bombarded with memories of the last time she was here with Scott. She hadn't relized how much it would hit her till this moment. But through her own term oil Katie feels another. Turning and see Jason look at her and hearing his message Katie trys her best to push her own feeling away for now. She wanted to be there for her friend even just a little though she wasnt sure how much good even she could do.

Reaching out Katie takes Jason's hand and hold it for a moment trying her best to keep her own emotions at bay.

You can do this J. I know you can. Your mom will love you no matter what, Your sister is going to love you, Wes likes having you around. It's ok to be scaired. I would say you wernt human if you wernt.

Katie gives Jason's hand a gentil squeeze and starts forwards twords the ranch.

If you call me and let me know when its ok, I'll come and see Kaylee. I can come with you but I dont want to invade anything.*

Tell me

“Dang it!” Mick presses his hand into his other palm to stop the blood flow.

Jeff reaches out quickly to grab the leadrope of the young escaped horse, trying to calm the colt down. “Mick, you alright?”

“Yeah, I’m fine.” Mick’s tone was exasperated as he grabs his bandana from his pocket. “Ripped right loose from me. I just got rope burn pretty bad.”

Jeff cringes. “Ouch.”

“Yeah, ouch,” Mick retorts sarcastically. “I don’t know why I said yes to taking on this brute.”

Jeff gets yanked forward as the colt starts misbehaving again. “I don’t know either.”

Mick uses his teeth to tie the bandana off around his palm, then goes to Jeff’s rescue, taking the rope again. “Well, he’s not going to get away with this one.”

Jeff quirks an eyebrow as he watches Mick head to the round wing with a longing whip. “Have fun.” Once out of earshot, he shakes his head, still talking. “And don’t get bucked off like yesterday…” He grimaces. Rosetta didn’t know about that one.

Sighing, he heads out of the barn to the mess hall, his stomach growling. Once inside, he grabs an apple off the table, and wanders to the kitchen where he sees Rosetta. Passing the toy room, he grins in on BJ. “Yo, Beej, my man! What up?!” After giving him a high-five, and commenting on a lego creation, he goes the rest of the way to the kitchen.

Seeing his sister, he smiles, taking a bite of his apple. “That husband of yours might be a little late for lunch. He’s out there with Cyclone again. Just got his palm tore up… but you didn’t hear it from me.”

Cindy laughs and takes the celery from Wes, pointing it at him. “Yes, Kaylee is sleeping, finally. I couldn’t get her down for anything this morning. But now I’m all set. Just sit down and let me get your lunch.”

She beams as she goes about preparing the noon meal. This is what she loved…this is what she’d always wanted. Being a mom had been her joy, but now, not having to work, and being able to really keep up a home, be a wife, and a mother again…blessing didn’t even cover it.

Jason gives a little grin at Katie, holding in a teasing comment. Now probably wasn’t the time to tease her about worrying.

“Alright, come on.” Leading the way, Jason heads to the exit of TJY, waving at a couple people on the way out. Once to his truck, he throws his bag in the backseat, waits for Katie, and they’re on their way.

The ride to the airport was quick. Phil and Mike would come get Jason’s pickup later today, then someone would give them a ride from the airport when they got back.

The plane was waiting, and all it takes is a walk to the steps and they’re in, settled, and before they know it, they’re in the air.

The ride is quiet… Jason keeps mostly to himself, doing his best to keep his rampant thoughts protected. Katie need not worry herself with his problems right now…his biggest one seeing his mom. There were things he needed to tell her that he had no idea how he was going to. Then there was seeing Kaylee…he wanted to… he really did… it just…felt…strange. Then again, underneath all that was that same growing, hated awkwardness he was feeling with Katie again. Would he ever feel right again?

Getting a taxi from the airport was easy. Sliding into the backseat with Katie, Jason accidentally bumps her with his knee. “Sorry,” he apologizes. His face reddens. Why, he didn’t know. This awkwardness shouldn’t even exist, and it was killing him. Glancing over to her, he gives her almost a cringe.

I’m sorry…just ignore me, alright?

Rolling his eyes at himself, he settles back in his seat and stares out the window. It would be a long ride.

…it was near suppertime when the taxi pulls up to the ranch driveway. Jason pays and holds Katie’s door for her, waiting until the car has pulled away to pick up his backpack again.

He stares down the drive. There were a few people moving around…he’d stay for just long enough to greet everyone, then would walk to his mom’s and Wes’. Why did he not want to move? Something just felt… he couldn’t put his finger on it. There would be a lot of talking… he had to face things… he had to experience new things… none was that bad… he would live through them all. They were just…hard.

I’m scared to face my mom…I’m scared to see my sister… I feel stupid for feeling scared.

He sighs and for a moment, turns to Katie, just looking at her.

Tell me I can do this… You will come later to see Kaylee too, right?

See them again

*Before Jason even reaches Katie cubicle she looks up, exspecting to see him. The last week had been rough and time still seemed to drag but Katie really was looking forward to going home. She missed the ranch more than ever, she miss her aunt and uncle she missed the open quiet country air and was looking forward to clearing her head there.

Finally as Jason arrives and leans over the cubicle Katie gives a nod and shuts her moniter off. Reaching for her bag she heaves a heavy sigh knowing she packed more than she needed but you never know what could happen.*

"I'm ready I think. I've already got my bag packed. I hope Wyatt remembers to take care of Domino...ah he should."

*Katie heaves a heavy sigh as she grabs her cell phone and puts it in her pocket along with her keys. She was going to leave her car at TJY and Jason was going to drive. Reese already new it was staying in the parking lot and was fine with it.*

"I'm just worrying to much. I know he will remember. I'm ready J. Lets get out of hear."

*Katie throws her backpack over her shoulder and starts to follow Jason out of TJY. One could only hope that the time away could heal the pain she felt inside. Mental, physical and emotional.*

*Wes can't help but smile at his wife as she gives him a hug and a kiss, returning it he cant help but put his arm around his wife as they walk back to the kitchen.*

"I'm starving for your good cooking."

*His smile grows bigger as he enters the kitchen and see everything has been prepaired for tonight. He was happy Jason was coming out. Cindy missed him dearly and it was a visit long over due.*

"My day was pretty slow. Now that its fall and moving into winter business is going to slow a little bit. Witch in a way is good. Mean I can spend more time with my family because I am sure Clint and Wendy can handle it."

*Leaning aganst the counter Wes pick at a peace of celery thats laying on the counter.*

"Is Kaylee sleeping? and can i do anything to help you hun?"

*Rosetta moves in and out of an empty bunk as she cleans it out for Katie. BJ running to and frow as he trys to catch a frog hopping in the grass.

Hearing from Austin what had happend to Scott Rosetta felt worse than ever for Katie. She was happy her neice was coming home and that maybe this could help her cop. She's been so happy and now to have that gone. It could only bring back memories not only that Katie lost someone dear but memories of when her mother and baby brother passed away as well. Rosetta could only hope she could make her neice feel at home once again.

Exiting the bunk Rosetta looks around the yard for a moment.*

"BBBBJJJJJ....."

*The small boy with firey red hair comes bounding around the courner with a frog in hand.*

"Look what I got mom....look what I got."

*Rosetta bends down to one keep and smiles at BJ as he holds the frog a warmth coming to her heart. Over the last month BJ had started called Rosetta and Mick mom and dad. It had felt strange at first but graduly Rosetta was getting use to it.

Ruffaling BJ's hair Rosetta smiles and shakes her head.*

"How about we let that frog go so you can chase him later and get dad for some lunch?"

*BJ smiles and squeels as the frog squirms in his finger tips till finally he lets go and takes Rosetta hand.*

"Is Katie coming today? Is her friend coming too?"

*Rosetta takes BJ's hand as they make there way to the dinning hall.*

"She will be here later and yes Jason is coming."

*BJ thinks for a moment and shakes his head.*

"No the other one I saw her kissing."

*Rosetta lets out a sigh as she relizes who BJ is talking about.*

"No hunny, Scott wont be coming. He lives in heaven now with Sam."

"Will we ever seen them again mom?"

"We will someday sweety we will."

*BJ and Rosetta disapear into the dineing hall BJ going to the toy room and Rosetta heading to the kitchen cooking up something for lunch.*

Ready?

Carson watches Misty leave, a strange tug at his heart. He didn’t recognize it. He wasn’t sure he’d ever felt it before. It made his feet want to follow her…yet he could not.

So he just stands, watching her walk away and join Kyle. But the words are whispered anyway. “See you soon…”

Turning, he pulls his jacket tighter around himself and ducks his head against the rain. It was a fair distance back to Mom and Pop’s. By the time he got back, he’d have just enough time to get into something dry before the evening rush. Maybe he’d call Jess later too…he felt like needing a distraction tonight.

Jason finds himself a little glad that Katie wants him to stay. Their lack of interaction just within the past few days had become a strange sensation, and at least able to be with her for a few minutes now seemed to ease the confused feelings just a little.

He places his hand over hers, just letting her sit…understanding her need to stay. He knew that Katie and Scott had been going through a rough time, and he’d figured out that they had probably decided to part ways. But their friendship had still been there…and love had still existed. Jason couldn’t imagine how Katie must feel now, to have lost that so suddenly.

Buried deeply enough to not be known to anyone else lay his own rampant feelings of this event, laced with emotions from other circumstances too. They confused him…a bewildering web of hurt, worry, fear, doubts, love… it was just writhing beneath the surface, begging to be sorted through, and Jason simply didn’t know how to do it. He didn’t know why he felt the way he did…he didn’t know why he did some of the things he did…he wasn’t understanding himself at all.

His mind reverts back to the night with Katie at Mom and Pop’s. He had denied her yet again. He’d justified it perfectly in his own mind. Yet he was still not at peace about any of it. He did have a longing…he did have a love…and yet he’d even lied about it once more when questioned point blank by Scott. What was his problem? Why was he continually messing things up even more? He didn’t understand…he didn’t know why his actions didn’t follow his heart anymore… he was frustrated that he couldn’t even figure himself out anymore.

And now…today…his best friend was hurting more than ever, and he didn’t even know how to comfort her. Not because he couldn’t be there…not because he couldn’t talk…but because of his ridiculous actions, he’d created this strange rift. It was a rift that had formed boundaries between them, that threw concern of appropriateness in their faces. Instead of just being able to be themselves, he’d stupidly made this tension himself, and now didn’t even know how to get rid of it.

Katie’s movements bring him back to the present, and he focuses on the dismal surroundings once more. He was getting cold, and the rain was soaking through to him.

Standing with her, he waits for her to finish, then catches her eye as she turns to leave. His emotions begged to form some sort of message and they were on the brink of being released, but instead, they all crumbled into a garbled heap.

Giving a little sigh, Jason stretches out his arm to put around Katie’s shoulders, walking her to his truck. I’ll give you a ride home.

“…yes, the files are here on my desk.” Jason rolls his eyes as he throws a couple things into his already-packed backpack.

Reese runs a finger down his notepad, following Jason around his office. “Well what about Brown’s…”

“I got that to him yesterday.” Jason stops and looks at him. “Reese…you’re the boss, remember? You’re in charge here. I think you can survive with me gone for a few days.”

“Yes, but…” Reese heaves a weary sigh. It had been a long week. Everything had been so topsy turvy after the case gone wrong, and now it had been several days after Scott’s funeral, and things were still a mess. They had a tech guy coming up from Arizona, but it wasn’t a permanent deal, and in the meantime, everything imaginable had been going wrong. All Reese wanted was some support around him, and now Jason and Katie were taking off for Texas. “I know, I know…you guys need the time off.”

“You can call,” Jason assures. “I was gonna say no communication, but after seeing you like this, I don’t have the heart.” He zips up his backpack. “I’ll have my cell phone with me.”

“What about Katie?”

Jason pauses, then shakes his head. “Don’t call her, Reese. She doesn’t need to be thinking about work right now.”

Reese purses his lips, brought back down a little bit. “Yeah…you’re right. I haven’t seen much of her.”

“Me either.” Saying that sounded a little strange, but it was true. Jason shrugs. “She’s been at Scott’s house a lot.”

“You think she’ll be okay?”

“Yeah.” Jason nods. “She will. She’s too tough not to be. It’ll just take a while.”

Reese cocks his head. “What about you?”

Jason shrugs again. “I’m always fine.”

Reese looks him in the eye skeptically, then gives his shoulder a pat. “Once a hotshot, always a hotshot. I know you better than that, but I won’t push it. Get out of here before I think of something else that I need.”

Jason grins a little and slings his backpack over his shoulder. “Wyatt’s taking care of Trooper and Domino…if he has trouble, have him call me.”

“What? I’m taking messages now too? You haven’t told him this?”

“Calm down!” Jason starts down the hall. “He’s out with Aerith right now, and I was just saying it so you didn’t worry when he complains.”

“Oh. Well why didn’t he tell me he was gone today?! Doesn’t anybody tell me anything anymore?”

Jason stops and turns for a moment. “Go…talk to Angelica or something to calm down, will ya?”

Reese bites his lip. It had been a long time since he’d felt this scatterbrained. “That bad, huh?”

Jason quirks an eyebrow. “Take an aspirin and call Rick in the morning.”

As Jason walks away, Reese throws up his hands. “I can’t help it that everybody is abandoning me!”

Jason gives a slight smile, heading onto the main floor. It was nearing noon…he was running just a little late.

Getting to Katie’s cubicle, he knocks on the wall and leans over the top. “Ready to go, Hero? Plane’s ready when we are.”

Carson runs a comb through his hair and takes one last look in the small mirror before tucking in his t-shirt and tightening his belt. He felt good…better than he had in a long time. His weight was about back down to where it used to be, his head and eyes were clear, and he was starting to regain some confidence that maybe things would eventually look up.

His morning jogs had helped. He’d finally gotten used to it again, and now had three different routes he took. Usually it was twice a week that he wound up passing by Misty’s. It never failed that he had an urge to stop, but of course, he never did. Companionship was satisfied though, in the afternoons and evenings when Jess would come by Mom and Pop’s. Carson enjoyed the company, and found her presence something he not only appreciated, but simply liked as well.

Heading to the kitchen, he swings the door open and grabs for an apron. “Morning, Herb. What do we got going today?”

Cindy bustles around the kitchen, stirring, pouring and baking. The house was clean, Kaylee was fed, changed and asleep, the laundry was done, and now supper was almost ready to throw in the oven later in the day.

She wipes the sweat from her brow then stops and smiles as she hears Wes come in the back door. It was close to noon, and he was probably hungry for lunch.

Meeting him in the entryway, she greets him by throwing her arms around him and pressing her lips to his. Drawing back, she smiles, her eyes sparkling. “Hi. Hungry? I got your lunch, and I got everything ready for when Jason gets here, and..” She stops, realizing she’s chatting excitedly, and giggles. “Sorry…” She was so thrilled to know her son was coming, that it was hard to hold it in. “Have a good morning in the shop?”

Little longer

*Misty gives a small nod of the head. She felt strange standing here talking to Carson but in times like this it can make you relize you have to make good, and stop being angry at someone before its to late.*

" I'm glad your taking care of yourself."

*Misty looks down for a moment before looking back up again and searching Carson's eyes. Dispite the pain, and the hurt that was still there a small spark twinkled and Misty couldnt help but smile. She wanted Carson to be ok, she wanted him to be happy in a healthy way.*

"Breakfest sounds good, as long as your cooking it. I guess I'll see you soon than."

*With that Misty turns and heads back to Kyle. She had made the first step in moving on from the past.

Giving a nod to Kyle and a smile she signls she is read to go now.*

*Katie sits as the rain still falls, her tear mixed in so it was hard to tell if it was the rain or not that wet her face. Feeling a drawing emotion, almost as if a pulse Katie knows before Jason even speeks he was close behind her.

As Kate feels Jason's emotion comfort she soaks it in like a spunge not even sure if she herself wanted it, but she took it in anyways. With something like this Katie wasnt sure what to do or how to act. She felt alone, she felt sad, and she didnt know how to relay it.

As Jason takes a knee next to Katie she finally turns her head to look at him, the rain causing her to squint her eyes to keep it out. Though feeling alone, it was nice having someone next to her that new how she was feeling without her having to try and explain. Katie really didnt want to be close to anyone at the moment, but she didnt want to feel this alone eather. Finally she musters the strangth to reply to Jason.

Please don't go.

Katie's hand reachs out and lays gently on Jason's leg as she rests her head on it.

Just for a little while longer I want to sit here. Just a little longer.

Katie's tears had stoped for now, and her heart still ached. She wasn't sure how to move on from here or what to do. So many things ran through Katie's mind not langing on one. but trying her best Katie keeps them underwrap as to not drive anyone crazy. Just leaning on Jason taking in his comfort Katie tryed to feel better.

A little while longer had passed and Katie lifted her head from Jason. It was starting to get even colder now and though Katie didnt want to leave she new she should. Giving Jason's leg a pat she starts to stand.

I'm ready to go now.

Even Katie's mentil messages seemed to lack the excitment and lift they always showed and she new it but she just didn't feel like being excited at the moment.

Leaning back down again Katie takes the small flower she had been holding and lays it ontop of the fresh dirt. Heaving a heavy sigh a few more tears spring forth.*

"Rest in peace Hun. I won't forget you."

*Turning and giving a small nod to Jason, Katie lets him know she is ready.*

Your choice

Carson sees Misty approach, and for a moment, thinks that there must be someone nearby that she's aiming for, and almost steps out of the way. But as she speaks to him, he realizes that he was her destination.

Caught off guard, it takes a moment for anything to register, and she's almost ready to leave again. He fumbles for the right words to say.

"I...I thought I should come." He gives a little shrug. "It was the best I could do…not much a bloke can do, who’s broke, living in the back of a restaurant." It was meant to be a joke, but he knows how pathetic it must sound, and makes him feel all the more awkward.

"...But at least Herb's keeping me out of trouble." Another bad choice of a comment. Someone like him really did need someone to keep him out of trouble. He gives a little sigh, his eyes traveling to the ground.

Taking a deep breath, he looks back up again, regaining his composure. "Yeah...I'll take care of myself. For once...I will." He searches Misty's eyes for a moment, in the background, seeing Kyle's figure. "Take care of yourself too, huh? You guys come in for breakfast sometime...it's been kinda quiet in the mornings."

As Jason nears his truck, he reaches for the door handle, but turns around once more. His eyes catch sight of Katie, sending another lurch to his heart. Why he felt so awkward, he didn’t know. He just didn’t know how to offer any kind of comfort, and honestly, didn’t even know if Katie really wanted it anyway. He didn’t know if she’d rather grieve alone or with someone else.

Words had been few between them since the accident. Silent communication had been nothing. Neither had shut out the other, but it was close to it. Both hurting, it was hard to know what to say or when to say it. And on top of all that, Jason was still dealing with buried emotions that were in such turmoil now that it almost hurt to continue keeping them locked away. The current situation just compounded his own confusion with what he was feeling… he just wanted it to all be right again. Why did things have to be so hard?

Giving a sigh, Jason opens his door and puts a foot inside. But he just couldn’t do it. Groaning at himself, he shuts the door again. Stuffing his keys back in his pocket, he turns around and heads back to the gravesite.

He bends his head against the rain and approaches Katie slowly from behind. Standing behind her for a moment, he knows he doesn’t have to announce his presence.

A gentle package of comforting emotions is offered, whether wanted or not, and left to drift, its purpose to be felt as an arm around a shoulder.

Finally Jason moves beside Katie and goes to one knee next to her, following her gaze to the grave. I’ll leave if you want me to… but I’m here for as long as you want, too.

Time

*Continuing to watch TV as Cindy drifted to sleep in his arms Wes mind was lost in though. Sometimes when something like this happened it really proved how fragile life can be and reminded those that no hour should be taken for granted because you never know when there will be no tomorrow.

As the show ends Wes looks down at his sleeping wife brushing a strand of hair from her face. Giving a smile Wes shuts off the tv and shift slightly. Taking Cindy in his arms he lifts her from the couch and carrys her to the bedroom. Laying her down gently Wes pulls the blankets up and over Cindy leaning down to give her a kiss on the forhead.

Exiting the bedroom again Wes makes his way down the hall just a little bit and opens the door. Walking over to the crib he leans down and watchs Kaylee sleep for a moment running his hand over the small baby's head as she slept. After making sure Kaylee was asleep and comfortable Wes makes his way back to the bedroom sliping quietly under the covers and draping his arm over Cindy holding her tight as her drifted to sleep.*

*Seeing Wyatt's tears Aerith reaches out and puts her arms around Wyatt offering him as much comfort as she could. She new first hand how losing someone could feel.*

"Hey, It's never fair when we lose someone, sometimes its unexspected, but God had his reasons. He new it was Scott's time to come home for one reason or another. Even if it is hard don't lose faith that this was part of a bigger plan."

*Aerith sits with Wyatt as long as he needs offering as much comfort as she could. Her heart went out for Wyatt, Scott's family and anyone who was close to him. Her own heart having an ach in it.*

*Pulling the blankets up under her chin Katie lets out a tired sigh. The tears still made there presence known but for now they had slowed down. Wrapping her arm around Domino who was snuggled in next to her Katie gives her a kiss on the head and snuggles her face into Domino's fer keeping her other arm close to her face where she could feel Scott sweatshirt on her skin. Minutes seem like hours as Katie stairs into the dark, and memories, voices, faces flow through her mind till finally she drifts off to sleep.*

*As Jamie is lifted up off the coutch she wraps her arms around Con's neck letting out a tired waking sound before laying her head on his shoulder. Once placed into bed Jamie turns to face Con now as she is awake. Running a hand down Con's face she gives just a tiny smile though her own heart hurt.*

"I love you Con."

*Snugging close to Con Jamie closes her eyes again trying to clear her mind once more to sleep. But memories filled once more as sleep would probely not come soon tonight.*

And so it goes once again that time seems to pass just as it always does, but to those who had to face each day without there friend now it seemed to just move slow. Than finally the dreaded day comes, and what you thought maybe was a dream is confermed as reality...and so life for some goes on.

*As the others start to move away from the group Katie stays put. The tears from her eyes giving wormth to her face through the cold air. Katie didn't want to move, she didnt want to get up, she didn't want to do anything but sit there. Though the last week She had been dealing with Scott's death slowly the depression she was experinsing lingered and held on.

Most of her time was spent at Scott's empty house with Domino. Katie had even braught some of her things from Laura's. Some might say she was only harming herself and torchering herself, but for Katie she just wanted to be close to Scott again and this was the only way how.

Still sitting on the ground the rain starts to gently fall but it didnt faze Katie one bit. For now, this was where she would say as she said her own goodbye to someone who had ment so much.*

*Sapphire starts to slowly walk away from the cemeitary with her parents on eather side. Though her eyes didn't so many tears, her heart was drownding in them. She would miss her twin, but some comfort was found in the fact that she would see Scott again one day.*

*Misty slowly makes her way back with Kyle. Her heart was heavy and hurt. Looking and seeing Carson Misty is stuned for a moment. Giving Kyle arm a pat for a moment she lets him knwo she will be right back.

Slowly making her way over to Carson Misty trys to offer a smile though her eyes prove this was hard for her in more than one way.*

"Hey, I think it was nice of you to come Carson."

*Not sure what alse to say Misty offers a small smile again.*

"Take car of yourself."

Goodbye, Scott

Cindy nestles in closer to Wes, her tears still coming, but his words bringing comfort. She knew he was right...it was just hard sometimes.

Letting his warm embrace calm her down, she just stays in his arms until she's drifted to sleep.

Wyatt feels Aerith beside him, and feels her hand to his back, but it's still several minutes before he lifts his head. He reaches for the water, but just spins it on the table for a moment. Though tears are absent, the sorrow lingers.

"We were out on a case today..."

Carson stands at the counter, a glass in hand. He didn't want to eavesdrop, but he did want to know if something had happened to anyone he knew. Unfortunately, it had.

Wyatt pauses before proceeding. "...There was a bomb we didn't know about. Scott didn't come back." He takes a sip of water, then sets the glass back down, his emotions finally getting the best of him. Sinking back in the seat, he stares up at the ceiling as a tear eventually escapes to run down his cheek. "He didn't deserve that, Aerith...it wasn't fair. He shouldn't even have been out there, but we were told it was safe. ...he was a good friend."

Carson's heart sinks, and he stops his work for a few moments. He'd heard enough. Scott was dead. How? What kind of a case could go so wrong? Why had Scott even been there?

Carson retreats to the kitchen, trying to finish up his work. It didn't seem real. He'd never been close to Scott...the only person he'd been close to at all at TJY had been Misty. But he'd known Scott as a good guy...had a good head on his shoulders...he'd been good to Katie too. And now...

He sighs, tossing his towel over a rack. Life just wasn't fair.

Con lets Katie bury herself in his lap, and just lets her cry. "Shh...it's okay," he comforts quietly. "You'll be okay...I promise... I know it hurts...I know." He rubs her back gently, eventually moving around so he can be more comfortable too, and allowing Domino to come back close and curl up with Katie again.

Finally it's getting late, and Con can feel Kate's breathing relaxed some. He's not sure if she's asleep or not, but knows she must be exhausted either way. He needed to get home... he didn't like leaving Katie, but he knew for now she would be okay.

Moving gently, he slides off the bed and pulls a blanket up over Katie, making sure Domino stays put too. "Watch out for her," he directs, giving the little dog a pat. He stands for a moment and looks at Katie with sympathy. "Sleep, Kat... rest."

Quietly he leaves, locking up behind him before heading home. Arriving, the porch light greets him, and he enters the house softly. Seeing Jamie asleep on the couch, he picks up her open Bible before she drops it, and sets it on the end table. Shedding his jacket and shoes, he leans down and lifts her into his arms, kissing her forehead lightly. "Come on," he whispers. "You're gonna get a crick in your neck if you sleep out here."

Managing to turn the light off while still holding her, he carries her to bed. He knew he wouldn't be getting much sleep tonight though...his mind was still far too full.

When someone we care about is gone, sometimes it's as though a fog has descended on our souls. We want so desperately to break free and be happy again, but the loneliness just seems to hold on tight, unwilling to let go. Time seems lethargic, and what happens around us just seems to be a big blur. We talk to others and nod and maybe smile, but all the while, our insides are still mourning...still grieving.

It was chilly. The sky was overcast with a thick layer of gray clouds and a cold mist fell. The cemetery was dark and dismal. Low thunder rumbled in the distance.

The gathering was larger than one might expect on a day like today, and perhaps one might be surprised to see as many turn out for one's funeral who seemed to have impacted only his small corner. But the truth was seen now, that the one who they had all gathered to remember, had touched more lives than realized.

"...he was a hard worker...a good man...a good friend." Reese bravely stands before the small crowd. He'd been asked to speak. He hadn't wanted to, but had known his duty. He looked at those from TJY...he saw friends and family...he saw those outside of TJY who he didn't even know. It was hard to know what to say. "...most importantly, he was a child of God. And those of us who know God ourselves, know that this was not the end for Scott, but only the beginning. Not only is he alive and well and better than ever, but what he has left with us lives on as well. His kindness...his laughter...his big heart..."

Jason stands to the side of the group, hunched over, like the rest, under the determined drizzle. Reese's words seemed to bounce off his eardrums, not to be understood. His mind was too busy pulling out pictures of the past to focus on today.

The last few days had been rough. TJY had been in a quiet state of chaos, the inner turmoil running rampant. Things had gone wrong with equipment constantly, only serving to make the situation and sorrow all the worse. Jason had hibernated in his office most of the time. He'd talked to few people and hadn't even seen Katie much. He didn't know what to say to her... he wanted to say something... he wanted to offer some kind of comfort... she'd seemed so lost... but he just didn't know what to say or how he could even help.

The rest of JetStream is nearby too, present for the memory of their friend. Kyle bridges the space between Mike and his siblings, and Misty, feeling the pressure of both worlds that had been effected by Scott's passing.

Apart from the group and farther to the back, Carson stands as well. He didn't feel a part of any groups there, but had had enough respect for Scott to come. It seemed strange...he saw so many faces he knew...so many he used to be able to just walk up to and talk to...he saw Misty... yet under these circumstances, there was really no longing to stay and talk.

As the short service ends and the remains of the body are buried, the attendees begin to drift in their own directions once more. The mist had turned into a light rain, and the temperature was cold enough one could see their own breath.

Jason trudges toward his truck, not looking forward to the rest of the day. He'd be going back to work. There wasn't much else for him to do. Though he did need to talk with Katie sometime about their trip to Texas. As far as he knew, she still wanted to go...and he knew he needed to. He'd put it off long enough... though admitting some things to his mother was going to just be all the harder after so much time had passed.

Gone

*As Cindy sinks down next to Wes he wraps his arms around her. Only part of the conversationwas hurd but it was enough for Wes to know what was going on. It was always hard to hear of the passing of someone and it was even harder when it was unexspected by an accedent. Wes think's back to the days when he was in the army. How many times was he the one who had to go to his friends home and tell them there loved ones would not be back. It was a curle hard cicle that would never end as long as there was hatread in the world.

Pulling Cindy in even more so she is close to him Wes holds her resting his own head on top of hers offering the comfort he could.*

"I know you hate it Hun, and when something like this happend it can really slap you in the face and show what could happen to anyone. God will keep Jason safe Cindy...."

*Wes tilts her head to look into her eyes.*

"....think of now, don't look to far ahead. God has a reason for everything, lean on him and know he wont give you anything you can't handle."

*Wes squeezed Cindy again and just holds her. His own heart acked for the loss though he didn't know Scott all that well he new him enough that it stung to think he was gone.*

*Looking up from her desk Angelica's eyes meet Reese's. She had hurd what had happend, and it was hard to believe. Hearing the invatation Angelica looks down at her paper work for a moment. She had so much to do, three differnt cases she was working on, but looking back up at Reese and searching his eyes she knows he need someone right now and that was more impotant.*

"I'd love that."

*Truth be told though on the outside she looked fine, on the inside she was crying for the loss of someone who was important.

Standing Angelica grabs her jack and heads twords the door as she gives Reese a small smile and placing a hand on his arm as they exited the room.*

*Katie wraps her arm around the small dog as she lays next to her. All the people around her in the world to give her comfort and yet Katie still felt completely alone. Nuzzaling her face into Domino's fer Katie just continues to let the sob run.*

*Looking out into the dinning area worry pass over Aerith seeing the way he was. Something happend she could feel it and she could only assume the worse.*

"Could you finish drying these glasses for me? Thanks Carson."

*Slowly Aerith makes her way from to back and along the way grabs some water. Making her way over to the booth she slowly slips in next to Wyatt and puts her arm around his shoulder and pushes the water twords him.*

"Hey you"

*Gently Areith rubs Wyatt's back trying to bring him comfort but not sure why she did it anyways. Something was really wrong and the best thing was to be there for him.*

"Whats wrong hun? What happend?"

*Giving Con a hug and a kiss Jamie walks with him to the door flipping the pourch light on. Giving a wave to Con Jamie makes her way back inside and sinks down on the coutch. Whiping some of the escaping tears from her face Jamie reaches for her bible and opens it starting to read some of the passages, before her eyes start to drift shut.*

*Katie dosnt even look up as Domino barks and than stops, nor does she move as someone enters the room easing themself down on the bed. Feeling Con's large hand and hearing his soft voice making the tears in Katie's eyes burn. She was trying to fight the tears but it was hard. Her face hurt from crying and her eyes were puffy, but that dident seem to matter. Staying still for a moment Katie finally sits up and turns repositioning herself to lay with her head in Con's lap as she sat curled into a ball as she sobed.*

"He's gone, He's really gone. I tryed not to be sad, I tryed not to hurt...but...I'm never going to see Scott again. He's really gone."

*Katie burrys her face into Con's lap at her eyes start to red and the tears run even more.*

Too many questions

Laura leans into Nate as she brings her close, and puts her arms around his waist, letting the silent tears run down her face. She hated this... but she was glad to have people near her to give her comfort... someone to help give her strength.

Seeing Sapphire's tears, Susanne moves a little closer to her, putting an arm around her shoulders in a motherly hug. This was hard on everyone...but so hard for Scott's sister. Susanne's own tear runs down her face, though she forces a smile at some of the things said.

Jason looks up as Katie moves to leave, gritting his teeth against the emotional war. He doesn't try to relay anything back...what could he say...what could he offer...nothing.

As Reese concludes though, Jason is the first to slip out and to his own office. Shutting the door behind him, he just leans back against the wall, trying to hold his emotions in. He didn't want to feel them...he loathed them...he didn't want this pain... and he didn't even know why it hurt so much. He and Scott hadn't exactly been close friends. But he'd known him well enough to feel an emptiness now...there was something gone...and if he'd ever hoped to bury the hatchet for good, that chance was now gone.

He thinks about Scott's final words of God. But if there was a God, why had He taken Scott away so soon? It didn't seem logical. None of this did. None of it seemed fair.

Maybe some of the emotion came from realizing how fragile life was in general...how dangerous this job was, even on days when it seemed trivial. Scott had been a good man... and perhaps even some more of the pain in Jason was knowing how much this was hurting his best friend. He wanted to go to her...to offer comfort..but he didn't even know if she wanted it, least of all from him.

Moving to his desk, Jason sinks down in his chair, blinking back a tear. After a few more minutes, he goes for his phone and dials...and waits. "Hey, Mom."

"Jason!" Cindy seems to sense something wrong in his tone. "What is it?"

"Had a rough day in the office."

"Oh?"

"Yeah...have you heard from Austin?"

"No...why? What's wrong?"

Jason hesitates. "We were on a case. And...we lost Scott."

Cindy sucks in her breath. "Oh, Jason, I'm so sorry. How did it happen?"

"There was an explosion...the rest of us were far enough away."

"How awful... I think I remember him... he was the tech guy, right? Kinda nerdy?"

Jason shakes his head. "No...he was the one that convinced us all he was nerdy..."

The conversation doesn't last too much longer. Jason felt a little better having spoken to his mom...and he'd wanted her to know. His trip to Texas had also been postponed one more time.

Cindy hangs up the phone in the kitchen and leans on the counter, letting a tear escape from her eye, her lower lip beginning to quiver. Sometimes she hated her son's job.

Moving away, she walks down the hall to check and see that Kaylee was still asleep, then goes to find Wes on the couch in the living room. The television was going...it was late evening...they'd be going to bed soon. But right now Cindy didn't want to sleep. She just wanted to be held.

Easing down, then sliding in next to Wes, stretched out, she buries her face in his chest. "Some day it's going to be Jason," she wimpers. "Some day, it will be Reese, calling to say it was him who didn't come back..." Several more tears come. "I hate it, Wes...I hate it."

As everyone filters from Scott's office, Reese is left alone. He tries to concentrate...tries to focus on the information that he needed to know...but he just couldn't. Finally he shuts the computer off and just stares at the blank screen for a while. He knew things like this weren't his fault...but it never failed...he always felt responsible anyway. A tech guy could be replaced...but Scott was irreplaceable...to TJY...to his family...to his friends.

Rising from the desk, Reese wanders into the hall, turning one more time to shut off the light, then close the door softly. He starts to go to his own office, but then stops. Seeing a light on down the hall, he walks slowly, then stops, knocking lightly on Angelica's door. "Can I buy you a cup of coffee down at the cafe?"

Domino's excitement to see Katie is soon dampened as she watches her friend wander down the hall to her master's room. Confused, she goes to the door to try and look out, as if expecting Scott to be close behind. But waiting for several minutes with nothing happening, she whines and turns back around, trotting down the hall. Searching for Katie, and finding her in Scott's room, the little dog hesitates, sniffing and cocking her head, hearing the sobs.

Going slowly to the bed, she jumps up and crawls up to Katie, licking her hand, then cuddling down in next to her, giving another small whine.

Wyatt parks his jeep outside Mom and Pop's, noting that there were no other customers here. It was late enough that they were just starting to close up for the night. It was dark...quiet. Wyatt pauses before getting out, then slowly goes to the entrance, testing the door and finding it still open. The bell greets him, but somehow doesn't feel as cheerful.

He knows Aerith is still here tonight, working until closing, but he doesn't call to her just yet. Instead, he just finds an empty booth to slide into, then folds his arms on the table to hide his face. Scott had been a good friend of his...closer than some, and this had hit him a little harder than he'd thought it would.

Carson is just cleaning things off in the kitchen, and comes through the doors, looking up as he hears the bell. He'd been ready to call Jess and tell her he was finished for the night, but now pauses. Seeing Wyatt, he stops, a bit of worry striking him. Something didn't feel right. Moving back to the kitchen, he waves to Aerith and speaks quietly. "Hey...Wyatt just showed up...I think something is wrong."

A sob catches in Jen's throat as she hangs up the phone in her bedroom. It had been Kyle...Jason had just called him. Tears filled her eyes. "Oh, Scott..." During the last few months, he'd really become a part of the group of friends surrounding JetStream...he'd been a part of the team, even if he hadn't been all that involved. They'd all gotten to know him well...he'd been their friend. It was hard to imagine he was gone...harder still to imagine what others must be feeling too.

Con wraps his arms around Jamie, standing in their living room, just quiet for several minutes. He hurt...he'd known Scott for a long time and so had Jamie...this just plain hurt. There was hope...Scott had been a faithful follower of Christ. But still...it never was easy to lose them here on earth.

Thinking for several moments, Con release Jamie, running a hand over her face. "I gotta go somewhere, okay? I'll be back." Leaning down to kiss her forehead, he grabs his jacket and keys. "Keep the light on for me."

Slipping outside into the chilly air, he starts his car and heads slowly down the street. After a couple stops and inquiries, he figures out where to go next. Sure enough, Katie's car was in Scott's driveway.

Con is met at the door by a barking Domino. He leans down and picks up the dog, stroking her behind her ears. "Shh...it's just me. You know me, huh?"

Domino licks his face in response.

"There... okay..." Con puts her down and scans the living room. It was empty. "Where's Katie, hmm?"

Domino trots toward the hall, looks back at Con, then looks down the hall, aiming for Scott's room again.

Con takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly. He didn't even know if Katie wanted anyone around... If she didn't, he would leave. But he didn't want to just leave her if she needed someone either.

Making his way to Scott's room, he enters slowly, cautiously. Seeing Katie curled up on the bed, he looks at her with sympathy. How hard this must be for her. Softly, he sits down on the edge of the bed next to her, his big hand going to gently brush some hair from her face. "Hey, Kat." His tone is soft and low. "You're not alone. Big brother is here if you need him."

Jason sits on his couch, his guitar in hand. His music had soothed his soul so many times...tonight it just seemed to amplify the hurt. But his fingers felt the strings anyway, the words flowing through his mind.

How can I move on,
When I didn’t get to say goodbye?
How can I move past,
The memories that haunt me now?
There’s too many questions,
Too much my heart can’t even say.
Too many questions,
How can it just end this way?

How can this world be so cruel?
To take a life away?
How can we live, day to day,
Not knowing who will leave?
How can we love,
Without fear in our hearts,
Of one more loss…one more tear,
One more broken heart?
We miss you.

How can it be true,
It seems like only yesterday,
We both were here,
Building up our lives as friends.
There’s too many questions,
Too much for me to comprehend.
Too many questions,
How can it just be the end?

How can this world be so cruel?
To take a life away?
How can we live, day to day,
Not knowing who will leave?
How can we love,
Without fear in our hearts,
Of one more loss…one more tear,
One more broken heart?
We miss you

*As Katie gets into the van ready to leave thew site she sits by Jason but away a bit. She didn't know how she felt through the sadness. Her tears had stopped but on the inside they were still raging as the invisable tears fell. Turning her head to where the badge was set on the dashbored Katie just stairs at it for a moment. So many things still running through her head and the pain ran through her heart. Looking away Katie looks out the window and the van lerches forward. The scenes passing buy as the silence lingers.

Once back to TJY Kaite makes her way inside slowly. Walking between Jason and Nate they prove to be a barryer for her. Though keeping her eyes on the ground Katie trys to stay clam knowing there were many people around and what the act of her raging emotions could do.

Turning and looking up at Con feeling his strong arms around her Katie feels almost numb but the liqued from her eyes proves she's not. Wrapping her arms around Con Katie just stands her face burryed into his brawd chest the sobs soft.*

*As Reese message to join him in Scott office rings forth Sapphire is the first to whipe the tears from her eyes and slowly make her way down to her brother office. She'd never been to close with her brother but non that less he was her twin after all. Memorie run through her mind as she walks of when they were young and insepratable. Scott has always looked out for her and school and she for him, but over time they started to drift apart. Both going there own way there bond never broke and they were always there when the other one needed the other. Now, now that Scott was gone the emptyness remained. As if a sting had been cut, there was now a hole.*

*Slowly Katie follows Jason and Con into Scott office. For a moment stoping in the doorway and looking around the room. One who had visited this office offten would exspect to see Scott sitting in the spinning chairs , or to hear his jokes or laughs. But not today. Not on this sad day. Scott would not be back, he would no longer step into this room again.

Moving all the way inside Katie goes to the far wall and leans aganst it resting. Waitng...holding her pain in. Trying to keep the tears from her eyes.*

*As Nate hears his name he can't help the smile the spreads across his face as her makes a tumbs motion and words slip from his lips.*

"You know me all to well buddy. Nothing better than bad guy but kicking. I'll keep that first thing in mind as well.*

*Than gently his puts his arm over Laura's shoulder and pulls her in. Keeping her held tightly but gently. Offering his comfort to her, a small smile on his face from Scott's words. What a good guy he was, that Nate would never forget. From now on, each case won, would be for Scott.*

*Misty keeps her hand on the side of her face as her other across her chest. She didn't know Scott as well as the other but from what she did know he had a heart of gold. She had been honnered to get to know him, even though it was so unfair he was taken away all to soon.*

*As Sapphire listens to her brother last words to her a few tears spill from her eyes as the lonlyness she felt increased. She loved her brother, and she would miss him. But now, she would try to live everyday like there was no tomarrow, for herself and for Scott.*

*A smile spreads across Jamie's fast her eyes glossy with tears as she leans her back aganst Con. Scott had always been a good friend she could pick on and he could pick back. She was truly going to be missed around the office.*

*As Katie hears her name read off she trys her best to fight her emotions and stay calm as the tears start to form in her eyes again. She didn't undestand why Scott had to die and maybe that was they hardest thing of this all. Not undestanding why.

Kaite's heart acked, burned, it felt almost clawstraphobic in the office with all the people and Katie was having a hard time breathing. She needed to get out, Katie didn't want to be around people anymore.

Standing Katie throws a look at Jason but dosnt relay much more than her sarrow and pain before slipping out of the room and heading across the TJY floor and outside. Going to her car she just sits in the passanger side for a long moment running her hands over the leather of the car. This car had been what started the path to what had been a wonderful relationship with Scott.

Finally pulling out of the parking lot Katie sqeals her tired and starts to make her way across town. Pulling into the small drive way of Scott's house and getting out of the car Katie lets out a long sigh. Going up the front pourch Katie searches for the key and unlockes the door steping in.

Being greeted by Domino as she wiggled all over Katie bends down and pats the small dog on the head trying to talk through her unexspected tears again.*

"Hey Girl...."

*Standing again Katie walks and heads down the hall. Scott's voice echoing in her ears as she remembers the good times, the laughs, and the romantic times. Getting to Scott's bedroom Katie opens the door and steps in. Closing her eyes and almost being able to feel Scott and smell him. Going to the closet Katie pulls out one of his sweatshirt. Holding it close for a moment she pulls it over her head. She felt close to Scott now. Sinking down on his bed Katie pulls her feet up and curls up her head on the pillow. The tear no being able to be heald back anymore as Katie's sobs ring out and her tears start to soak the pillow.*

Note

Nate's words are met with silence as his words create a shock at the other end.

"Oh, no..." Hal's words are laced with emotion. "No..."

Theres' another long pause.

"Thanks, Nate. I...I'll...I'll start letting people know for Reese so there are no surprises."

I know it hurts...I know... But be strong, Katie... I know you can.

Jason's arms remain around her in a gentle but strong grip.

You'll always be a hero, Katie, don't pretend you're not. But even heroes can't control everything. There's nothing you could have done...

His hold finally loosens a little when he's confident that Katie won't try to attack anyone again, and his hand slides to her back to rub it. He tries to keep his own tears from his eyes as Katie sobs. Seeing and hearing her cry was heart wrenching.

The chaos continues around them as people come and go. Reese is forced to remain strong as he has to give a report, details to Sheriff Brown, and endure heavy questioning. Time drags on. The team can only wait. Can only become more resentful of this scene... can only wish to leave even more.

The fire is finally gotten under control as more smoke and steam shoots forth. Remnants of a charred building is all that's left of the once-beautiful house. Rescue workers and police are still everywhere. Reese doesn't allow anyone to question his team, not wanting them to have to go through that.

As the time drags on, the sun starts getting low, the air chillier. And finally...finally... it's time to leave.

The team is quiet in the van as Reese slides in behind the steering wheel. He is just quiet, unmoving for a full minute as he stares down at something in his hand. Firefighters had come to him earlier with the recovered object. He lets out a shaky sigh and finally reaches to set the blackened badge on the dashboard. Keeping himself in check, he pulls away, taking the van back to TJY.

At TJY, the atmosphere is quiet and dismal. Soft crying can be heard. No one wants to work...it seems unreal. Police officers often die in the line of duty...but not here.... and at TJY, it wasn't just a workplace... it was family. And one of their own had been lost. Some TJY members were on the outskirts and not as involved as those on the main floor. They would be able to move on more easily. But for those who interacted with each other every day...they were the ones with broken hearts.

The van makes it back to TJY, only to enter with downcast eyes. Their accomplishment of a case solved seemed trivial...not worth a smile.

They are greeted by others who need not say any words. It was hard to lose a friend...even harder to have been there to see it.

Hugs are given.... tears are not hid.

As the team walks across the main floor, eyes can't help but drift to the hallway where the offices were. This whole thing was like a nightmare. It was unreal.

Reese breaks off from the team and heads toward the hall. He remembered Scott's last words and would go look for what it was he was supposed to see.

The team is numb...no one wants to work... and no one is asked to. Suddenly a large shadow comes up from behind. Jason turns his head and almosto has to look up. His eyes meet with his friend for a sorrowful exchange without words.

Con joins the group. He'd been called by Laura. Seeing Katie, he reaches out to her and pulls her into a hug that envelopes her. "Hey, Kat," he whispers. "It's gonna be okay."

Reese walks back onto the main floor, his eyes reddened slightly, though he holds his composure. Looking around, he sees that eyes are on him, and he doesn’t have to get everyone’s attention.

“Hey, guys, um… can everybody come down to Scott’s office for a minute? There was, um…a note… about a disc he’s got and…he wanted everyone there.”

Most are quick to follow. Though not everyone was there, the main crew was, and followed Reese to huddle in and around Scott’s office.

Reese sits down behind Scott’s desk, leaning down to retrieve a disc out of the small safe to view on the computer. As the disc is inserted, it automatically starts a program, bringing up several files and documentations. A message pops up first though, forcing the user to read before proceeding.

Reese’s eyes scan the words, emotions filling his eyes. He swallows hard, seeing the others in the room. “There’s um…there’s a message here…to several of us…”

He clears his throat and composes himself before he starts to read aloud…

“If you're reading this, then I guess I bit the dust. I know - corny line. Maybe I was lucky enough to have died in my sleep, but if I died in the line of duty, which would be interesting since I sit behind a desk all day, I'm sure you guys took down whoever we were after. Don’t ask why this message is here… I guess I just felt like writing it one day.”

Reese pauses a moment, feeling the responsibility weighing on his shoulders for taking Scott away from the desk. He proceeds.

“I've got files here...and lots of 'em. I'm hoping that whoever is reading this has the clearance to do so. But before I tell you my passwords, give me just a moment to get sappy here. If a guy can't do it during his lifetime, surely he can do it after he's six feet under.”

A short chuckle is heard from someone in the room. Reese struggles to go on, seeing his name first.

“Reese - you were always a great boss, even when you were annoying. Thanks for helping me find my way and taking me on when no one else would. And before you go blaming Susanne any more for that quirky beep your computer does when you “accidentally” swear - it was me. And by the way, my house is paid for. It goes to TJY.”

Several people can’t help but laugh a little at the humor laced in amongst the words, though all remain attentive as they listen, tears still glistening.

“Susanne - there's a button on your printer that turns the power off. Use often. Use wisely. May your next technical supervisor's hands be ink-free.

Laura - marry the man already. And next time your computer crashes, instead of wailing, try asking nicely...computers are sensitive that way.

Nate - read Laura's first... got it? Okay. Now get out there and kick some bad guy's butt. I know you want to.”

Laura’s face reddens and she looks down, an embarrassed smile on her lips.

“Con - I know you're not around here anymore, but I gotta say - you're one big dude with one big heart. You put up with a lot while you were in the office...thanks.

Rick - don't quit. You've saved lives, man. Keep it up.

Ty - dumpster man! Hang tight and don't give up.

Hal - careful...I might have left some moldy cheese in my garbage. Clothespins for your nose not included.”

More chuckles interrupt the speech.

“Misty - thanks for all you've done. Your future is bright. Don't let Rick boss you around too much... you're teaching him as much as you're learning.

Sapphire - sis...I know we didn't get along all that great, but you know I loved ya. Keep that chin up and make yourself known around here. Get out of your box...trust me, it's worth it. Tell mom and dad I loved them… one last effort to bury the hatchet.

Jason - we've had our differences...boy have we ever. But ever since you got here, I envied you. Your talents...the way people respected you even when you were just a cocky high schooler. You've just got "it" and there's no two ways about it. I may have had a couple years on you, but it didn't matter. Just don't let that talent of yours go to waste. Use it...for good… you know how. And Jason...since I never could get through while I was there, let me say it now - start believing in God. I've seen Him now, and He's real. Don't wait too long. I want to see you again.”

Jason leans back against the wall, his hands hooked in his pockets as his eyes focus on nothing and no one. Scott’s words struck deeply…deeply enough that for now he set the emotional strain aside to deal with later when he was not in the presence of others.

“Wyatt - hey, boss' kid. Yeah, you. Don't let your dad get to you, and stop worrying about what others are thinking about you. You're fine. You're good. You're going to make a great leader.

Jamie - take care of that tank of yours, you hear? Be careful out there and don't neglect that smile of yours. Thanks for the friendship. It meant a lot even if all I did was tease.

Katie - I didn't leave you last on the list because you were last in my book. Maybe I just didn't know what to say because there were too many things to choose from. Love. Laugh. Live. You deserve it. Fly, Katie... stretch those God-given wings of yours and don't let anyone hold you back. You're unstoppable and you know it. Never give up. Never say die. Dry those tears. I'll see you soon. (And if Jason misbehaves, slap him once upside the head for me 'cause you're the only one he won't hit back.) Love ya, Alice. Take care of Domino for me.”

Jason finally glances over to Katie, searching her eyes, feeling emotional stress. He was right…

“Alright...now that that's over... (you gals can quit crying now...I mean it...stop it...I've never felt better here).... the following documentation contains all the stuff Reese would want, or the next tech guy that'll be filling my shoes. Usernames, passwords, stuff I shouldn't even have...”

Reese’s voice trails off and for several moments, there is just silence until he manages to speak again. “The rest is all files that I’ll need to go through…things someone else needs to know to keep things running around here.”

Hero

*As Jason pulls Katie away she fights and struggles for a moment. Finally though she gives up and just lets Jason hold her. It was usless to match Jason's strength without hurting him and that was not matter how upset and hurt Katie was something she just did not want to do.

How could this happen J....It hurts so bad.

Feeling Jason's arms around her she burrys her face into his chest as the tears continue to come though she trys to calm herself down. Using Jason as her shelter all Katie can do now is cry. As her mind raced with memories, with thoughts, and with feelings she couldn't even begin to describe.*

"Some Hero I am!"

*Nate looks to Reese and gives a nod, though he himself was stuned. It was hard to turn away knowing they would be going back short one. Scott has been quiet, but in the last months to pass he had changed and life was new for him. But not it was hurt short and it killed him to think of the pain and sarrow of the passing life of this young man.*

"Yeah, I got it boss."

*Turning around Nate heads back to the van give a nod to Jason and placing a hand on Katie's shoulder.*

"It's going to be ok Hero. Don't beat yourself up over this. You were Scott's Hero, So don't even say other wise. You gave him life and hope. Thats more than any man could ask for. He new you loved him and he would hate to see you like this. "

* Giving a gentil pat Nate disapears into the van. Though he new that in time it would be ok, his words just didn't seem enough. It was hard to see Katie like this, it was hard to see the look in Jason's eye, it was hard to deal with his own feelings.

Switching the raido and headset back on Nate clears his throt and keeps his voice low as his eyes scan the data that Scott had transfered.*

"Hal, we got the information we needed. All of it, but..."

*Nate's voice trails off for a moment as he lets out a long sigh and closes his eyes for a moment.*

"...Scott didn't make it out before the building exploded. Scott's gone Hal. Reese wanted you to know first."

What I wanted to

The look in Katie's eye almost scares Jason and he watches her walk away. Still stunned himself, his eyes drift to the fire as one of the fire trucks pulls up and begins to douse the flames. Scott... There had been times when Jason had hated him... had not appreciated him... had taken him for granted. But he'd been a good man with a heart like no other.

Turning back around, Jason suddenly realizes where Katie's gone, and before he moves, he sees her throw a punch at the FBI agent.

Reese is still shouting as Katie approaches. As she nears, his own anger increases, feeling the emotional wave. His mouth is open to lay more blame when Katie steps in to lay her hands on Tipman.

Though angry, Reese's eyes widen slightly. "Katie, no. Stop, Katie..." Too late, she was taking the man down.

Jason jogs to the small gathering, seeing Katie on top of the agent on the ground. Katie...let him go... he's not worth it... stop it, Katie...

Reese takes a step forward, going for Katie, but a hand to his arm stops him and he looks to Jason.

It's Jason that leans down, firmly taking hold of Katie and pulling her off of Tipman. He struggles just a bit against her angry strength, but gets her up and drags her away from the people, nearer their own van. Do you think Scott would want you to do this? It may be Tipman's fault, but you can't do this...you have to let it go...

Once more, Jason wraps his arms around Katie, trying to hold her still. Seeing her bleeding knuckles, he almost winces. Drawing her in tighter, he buries her tear-streaked face against him, resting his own head on hers and rocking her. "Shhhh.... just breathe, Katie, calm down...."

With all his own anger and fears, it's so very hard to emit anything else, but digging down deep for the strength, Jason puts a lid on the negativity, and pours out all the comfort he can muster in an attempt to drown out the anger.

Tipman wipes his bloody lip and glares at Reese as he gets back to his feet. "Brown will be hearing about this. It was his idea to give your department free reign. If that's the kind of officers you produce, then..."

Reese cuts him off. "I have the best officers a man could ever have," he hisses. "Don't you ever, ever dare to insult me like that again. I apologize for Katie's behavior, but I commend her for doing what I wanted to. Go ahead. Go to Brown. And if you do, so help me, I'll have you from so many different angles that it will make your head swim." He stares Tipman in the eye. "Now get out of here. You've caused enough damage. This is my scene. That was my officer. You have no right to this."

Turning around, Reese eyes Nate. "I need you to radio back to Hal. I'm sorry...but please tell him what happened. I want our group to know before it leaks from the FBI or the media."
