Blind spot

At Jess' comment about a double rainbow, a strange pang hit's Axel. And for the first time, a glint in his eye proves he'd been caught off guard. He blinks, then chuckles, backing up to the truck, and just shakes his head.

Getting to the little restaurant, he sits for just a moment, fingering his keys. In the back of his mind there were red flags popping up all over the place. Yet he was sitting here, eating lunch with Jess anyway. Regrets had always been lurking around the corners. He could only hope this wasn't one of those corners.

Finally getting out, he meets Jess near the door, grinning a little. "I hope it purrs like a kitten," he nods. "I worked on it myself."

He opens the front door, letting Jess enter before him, then slips inside as well. Allowed to find their own seats, Axel purposely picks a table near the front window, thinking of Jess. Some might not think a thing of it, while others would note that it was away from the corners with the best lighting, and a clear route to the exit. And though one sitting there might not realize why they felt relaxed, the location was the safest position in the cafe.

After sitting down, a waitress comes to the table to take their orders, and soon after, their meal has arrived.

Axel remains relaxed and somewhat quiet, not fearing silence as some would. Eating a bit of his sandwich, he studies Jess, wondering about the mixed emotions that laid behind her eyes. He wondered how many of them were from the night before, and how many of them had existed there for years. How many had laid there from hurts before.

Pausing once after lifting his glass of water, he hides a wince and rubs his hand where some might notice the scars, one on each side of his hand between his first finger and thumb.

"So..." He cocks his head, his eyes twinkling. "I know your name... I know what kind of car you drive... I know you dance better than you think... and I know you have a hidden light behind your eyes. But that's about it." He lets his implied question hang, wondering if small talk would be accomplished or avoided.

As Wyatt stands up with Aerith and is taken into a hug, he chuckles and returns it, giving her a tight squeeze. "Mm... I don't think I could turn down at date... at least not one with you."

Tilting back to see her face, his smile remains and he leans to kiss the top of her head. "I won't be able to get off until eight tonight, but if you can wait that long, I'll meet you wherever you want."

Jason glances up at the two, his own enjoyment rising at seeing the light romantic interaction. It was nice to see both Wyatt and Aerith happy with their relationship. They deserved it.

His attention diverts to his silent conversation with Katie.

Yeah, okay. Let's swing by his place and at least check on him.

He lets Katie slide from the booth first, then follows suit. Saying goodbye to Wyatt and Aerith, he leaves Mom and Pop's with Katie, following her to Scott's house.

Parking by the curb, Jason gets out of his truck then waits for Katie. "Well... the house looks quiet. I guess we'll just knock. Domino should be around too."

Ambling up the walk, he heads to the porch, then pauses in front of the door. Glancing at the windows, they're dark, the curtains drawn. Giving a shrug, he raps his knuckles on the door. Hearing nothing, he tries again, this time calling out. "Scott?"

Domino's barking greets them from the other side of the door, but nothing else.

"Scott, you home?" Jason calls a little louder, listening intently. Nothing. He turns to Katie, lifting his eyebrows.

Moving to one of the windows by the porch, he puts his hands to the glass to peer in. After a moment, he withdraws, a strong emotion of pity surfacing. Looking down, then back up to Katie, he gestures for her to come look as well.

The window was on the side of the living room, an the curtains were away from the side just enough to see in.

Scott was still sitting in the middle of the floor, his knees drawn up, his face buried, just like he sat in the bed at the TJY infirmary. Domino was scampering back and forth between him and the door, but he wasn't acknowledging her.

Jason's jaw muscles tighten as sorrow mixed with anger rises. Scott had never been one of the strongest people he knew, but he'd had a quiet strength about him nonetheless, and now... to see him like this...

What do we do, Katie? What can we possibly do for him?

Dani enters Mom and Pop’s, and seeing Carson in the back, a smile forms. Spotting Aerith and Mable, she waves and comes up to the counter to take a seat on one of the stools. “Hey, guys.”

Carson perks up at the sound of his sister’s voice, and glances through to the front. “You’re early!” he hollers.

Dani laughs. “By whose clock?”

Carson glances at his watch. “Mine. You’re early by seventy-two seconds.”

“Aww, well then take your time.” Dani shakes her head in amusement, waiting until her brother emerged.

He grins and leans on the counter. “Hi.”

“Hi.” Dani spots his hand and frowns. “What did you do to your finger?”

“Shark bite.”

“What?”

“Went deep sea fishing over my lunch break.”

“Carson!” Dani whacks his arm. “What did you do?”

Carson rolls his eyes. “Spoil my fun, will you? I cut it with a knife. Did a good enough job on it that I got to get stitches and everything.”

Dani smirks at him. “Way to go. Hurt much?”

“Nah. I got someone to kiss it and make it feel better.”

Dani just shakes her head, then gives him a silly grin. “Say that again.”

“What?”

“Say that again.”

Carson quirks an eyebrow. “What? Someone kissed it to make it feel better?”

Dani’s smile widens. “That’s what I thought you said.”

“What about it?’

Dani shakes her head. “Nothing.”

“Oh come on. What are you getting at?”

“Nothing!” Receiving an annoyed look, Dani laughs. “I was just noticing your accent.”

Carson straightens a little. “And what of it?”

“You’re losing it.” Dani’s eyes dance with mischief. “Sounding more and more like an American, Bro, better watch it.”

Carson chuckles and shakes his head, dropping his accent altogether. “Yeah, I know. Pretty soon you won’t be able to tell me apart from any average Joe.”

Dani giggles. “How do you do that?”

Carson grins and grabs a towel to wipe up a water ring he’d spotted on the counter, resuming his natural voice. “Practice.”

Dani lets the conversation pause a moment before getting in to what her main purpose was for being here. “So. Want to move in with me, huh?”

“If you’ll still have me.”

“Of course. Why the change of heart?”

Carson stops a moment, then shrugs. “Guess I want a change of scenery. Something’s got to look up, right?”

Dani eyes him curiously. “Everything alright?”

“Oh… sure.”

Dani cocks her head and waits until her brother looks her in the eye. “You’re a bad liar.”

Carson sighs and looks around the restaurant, making sure no one is paying attention to their conversation. “Don’t know where I’m headed, Dani. I broke up with Jess last night, and this morning I got Misty coming up in the passing lane.

Dani’s eyes widen. “Whoa. I’m sorry. Wow… what happened?”

Carson shakes his head. “Complicated.”

Dani gives him an apologetic look, her tone softening. “No wonder you look worn out. I thought things with Misty weren’t… well… so hot.”

Carson turns around to get Dani the drink of soda pop that he knew she wanted. “They’re not.”

“So why is… I mean… the passing lane?”

“She’s in my blind spot.”

Dani bites her lip. If she didn't know Carson was having such a hard time, she’d find his analogy amusing. “Don’t know if she’s gonna catch up or back off, eh?”

“Not quite.”

“Well…how about you come over tonight and we’ll talk about you moving in, and… maybe a few other things too?” Dani gives him a knowing smile.

Carson nods gratefully. “Alright. Herb’s closing up tonight, so I can be there about seven if that’s okay.”

“Sure. I’ll fix us something for supper if you can stand my cooking.”

Carson laughs. “I cook all day. Letting you do it is fine with me.”

Double

Following Axel out Jess can't help but be a little saprised at the mention of a gift. Than seeing the rainbow air freshiner she cant help that her lips curl up into a smile. He's though about what she said and was not giving her a gift Jess thought that was sweet.

Taking the rainbow from Axel Jess catches his eye for a moment.

"Now when your around to talk to I can see a double rainbow."

Turning Jess gets into her car and starts it up. Taking a moment to hang the gift on her mirror.

Following Axel as he drove the roads Jess' him had time to wonder thinking about many differnt things. Her head was staring to hurt less now, and she didnt quit feel as crappy though the events of what happend with Carson still loomed and weaghed heavy on her mind. It was hard not to think about it.

Finally reaching the restront Jess pulls her car next to Axel's truck and gets out walking over to join him.

"It purrs like a kitten. I think its running better than it was the day I first for it."

Jess offers a smile as she turns to head inside some of her nerves diminishing.

Aerith looks back at Wyatt with an innocent look.

"But if I don't move than you wont go. I miss seeing you as much as before when you could come and go as you pleased."

Aerith lets out a small sigh and than slowly slides from the booth. Reacing out as Wyatt makes his way out she wraps her arms around him in a hug.

"I think we should go on a date tonight."

Watching Wyatt and Aerith for a moment Katie smiles. It was nice to see Wyatt happy, through the hands of fate they themself had there ups and down but to be friends with him still was nice, and to now see him really happy was even better.

Turning her attachen back to Jason and his question Katie gives a little nod.

Yeah maybe watching the house for tonight would be a good idea. Just to make sure he is ok. I think maybe we should bring him something to eat now too. What do you think? I am sure he dosnt have any food or drink at his place.

It's okay

Hearing the door open, Axel swivels in his chair, his bottle of iced tea still in his hand. A slight smile curls just the edge of his mouth and he stays seated.

He gives Jess a nod about the car. “That’s fine. One of the guys will move it later.”

Hearing her repeat offer for lunch, he cocks his head a little, noting that she was now looking at the floor. He’s quiet for a moment, his eyes studying her as he picks up on her awkwardness.

He taps a long finger on his bottle, a grin finally escaping at the mention of the rainbow.

“Well…” He glances down at his filthy work clothes and oil-stained hands. “I haven’t taken my lunch break yet and… I do know a nice little place that’s only about ten blocks from here that won’t mind me not going home and changing first.”

He stands up, setting his iced tea down and accidentally knocking a paperclip holder off the desk, sending paperclips all over the floor.

Staring at it a moment, he is silent, then heaves a sigh, setting his hands on his hips. “Okay. …Well. …That was smooth.” He nods with approval before grabbing the magnetic lid of the holder. Taking a retractable tape measure and hooking it to the end of the lid, he extends it to the floor, sweeping wide to attract all the fallen paperclips. Then letting the tape measure retract, he holds the mess of clips in his palm, turning them so they’ll fit back into the holder, then setting the tape measure back down.

A sheepish look briefly crosses his face, though he remains composed. “Alright. Now that the office is… clean… we can go.”

He spins on his heel and nods to the door, the corner of his mouth quirked. “I’ll lead the way in the truck.”

On their way out, he grabs his truck keys, then Jess’ car keys too, hollering at one of the guys that he was leaving for lunch.

Once outside in the sunlight, Axle tosses Jess’ keys to her. “It’s down on Birch… Sandwich Basket.”

He aims for his truck, but then stops, turning back to Jess. “Almost forgot.” He holds out a little plastic package between his first two fingers. “Courtesy of J & J’s Auto.”

The small extended gift is an air freshener to hang from the rearview mirror, and its shape and color is a rainbow.

Axel cocks his head, looking down into Jess' eyes. "In case you ever forget that after every storm, there's promise of new beginnings."

Wyatt returns a light hug to Katie as she joins them, a smile spreading on his lips. Though their friendship had taken a few odd turns, it was nice to know that they still had a camaraderie.

Jason welcomes Katie's hold on his hand, appreciating her presence and willingness to take the brunt of his negative emotions, even if it hurt. Feeling her grip tighten, he tries to ease off a bit, knowing that in public, they could easily cause much more of a scene than intended.

A pause comes to the conversation as Aerith joins them, and Wyatt gives a short chuckle, returning a kiss to her forehead and slinging an arm around her shoulders. "What else is there to talk about?" he teases. "Comparatively speaking, every other subject seems downright boring."

Jason smirks and throws Aerith a wink. "What your boyfriend is so eloquently trying to say is that venting sessions make for fewer nervous breakdowns."

Wyatt grins. "Couldn't have said it better."

As their food is brought, they try to steer the conversation away from work for a little while, but eventually, Jason brings it back around again.

"So... I think we'd all agree that somebody should keep an eye on Scott's place tonight. I'd be first to volunteer since I don't have to work, unless you have a better idea."

Wyatt shakes his head. "I wouldn't stay too close though. If he knew about it, it would probably just make him feel worse. I'd just feel better with a little security around him, that's all."

"How's he staying there? I mean, TJY wasn't doing anything with his house. He doesn't even have utilities, does he?"

"I don't think so. And I'm sure he knew that, but at this point I don't think he cared. I haven't talked to him much, but I think he just got tired of being in the way, and I think he felt stupid half the time, especially when he'd get scared of things. I'm sure he just figured it would be easier to get away from it. Can't really blame him, but... not sure it was a great idea on his part."

"No..." Jason shakes his head a little, thinking. "Hopefully Rick will have some excuse to get him back to TJY. We've got to save Scott's job."

"I don't know how," Wyatt admits. "It's all over the office now that Austin's firing him." He pauses, looking at Katie and Jason for a moment. "You weren't going to say any more, but... what exactly have you two been up to?"

Jason purses his lips. "Best you don't know details until it's over. I don't want Austin tracking anything back to you. Right now you're halfway out of the mess, so it's better."

"Hey, I'm just as much in the mess as you," Wyatt defends. "Though I guess I shouldn't argue. You two outrank me now."

Jason rolls his eyes. "Right. As if I'd ever pull rank on you."

Locking eyes with Wyatt for a moment, both start to laugh, and Jason grins sheepishly. "Okay, so maybe I would. But not this time. It's just safer."

"Alright, I understand." Wyatt glances at his watch and sighs. "And speaking of which... if I don't get back to work, I'll be late, and get myself into trouble." He gives Aerith a squeeze around her shoulders. "Sorry, but..." He looks around her on the booth. "You have to get up before I can."

Jason grins as he watches Wyatt preparing to leave, though his mind was going a mile a minute in many other directions.

So now what? You want to keep an eye on Scott with me? Is there more we should do than that? Should we go see him before that? Make sure he's okay? Keep him company? I just don't know what to do.

Kyle stares up at the pickup ceiling, his seat tilted back to a more comfortable position. Sitting in the parking lot, his music is still playing, though it’s not loud enough to keep him from hearing his phone ring.

He deliberately lets his voicemail pick up the call, but after a moment, he reaches back over his head to the back seat to find his phone.

Bringing it around to look at it, he sees the number of the caller he’d missed. Thinking for a second or two, he decides to go ahead and listen to the message.

A wry grin curls his mouth and he shakes his head as he hears Misty’s voice. There was a whole lot more in her tone that she wasn’t saying. Taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly, he just looks out the window for several minutes. Eventually he turns his attention back to his phone, taking note of where Misty’s call had come from. She was still at work. If he called her landline, he could leave a message on her answering machine that she’d get after work. That was probably the better option today. He could just ignore her like he was Phil today, but he didn’t really want to do that.

Again he takes several minutes to think, then finally dials. He knew how many rings it would take, and automatically counts them before her machine picks up. “Hey, Miss T.” The smile can almost be heard in his voice. “Listen, I, um… I got your message and… you don’t need to make a big deal out of it. I know it, and you know it, so…” A quiet chuckle escapes. “I guess dinner isn’t really necessary. Ever need anything, you know where to find me. So…I’ll see you around… church on Sunday if not before. And I still expect to see you at our next concert,” he teases, then pauses for just a moment. “Thanks for everything, Misty. And… it’s okay.”

Ending the call, Kyle tosses phone back into the other seat again, leaning his head back and closing his eyes.

I...L..

Pulling the rental car into the parking lot Jess parks it close to the garage. Not sure where alse to take the car she figured this would be good and if it needed to be put somewhere alse she would move it.

Next entering the shop Jess gives a friendly smile though feels a little on edge from all the strange faces that staired at her. Quickly walking to the front counter Jess leans on it a little bit.

"Hi, I'm looking for Axel he said my car was ready."

The man behind the counter throws a smile at Jess and gives a nod to the office.

"Right past those door you'll find him Miss."

Giving a nod of thanks Jess makes her way to the office doors knocking lightly before entering. Keeping the door open behind her Jess eyes rome the room before landing on Axel. A small grin plays on her lips. Having spend several differnt occations with Axel Jess was starting to warm up to him. Remebering her promise of lunch Jess feels a bit of akwardness but why not.

"I parked the rent car out front. I hopes thats ok."

Fiddling with the key for a moment Jess finally puts it on the desk and than takes a step back. Finally looking up again Jess makes her offer though her head still hurt from the night before maybe some company would cure that.

"Thank you again Axel for all the help. Who knows how long I would of been sitting out there if you hadnt come alone. I was wondering too, maybe...that is if your not busy if you would like to grace the rainy day with a raindow at lunch?"

Feeling completely silly for what she just said Jess looks down again. Why she felt all nervouse she wasnt sure. It felt differnt though, not as she was scaired but something...differnt.

Entering Mom and Pop's Katie does even have to look around to already know where to find Jason. He was always in his favrote spot that never changed. The smile on her lips growing bigger as she walked over Jess bends down and gives Wyatt a quick hug.

"Hey you. I know its only been a few days but I have missed seeing ya."

Standing up again Katie slides in next to Jason and gives him a tighter hug and a quick kiss.

"And you...its only been a day, and I ALWAYS talk to you but still...I missed you something awfel."

Pulling away from Jason Katie slids her hand down his arm and interlocks her fingers with Jason before turning her attachen to Wyatt who was talking.

Feeling Jason's anger and feelins well Katie trys her best not to let the slight bit of pain show though she gives Jason's hand a slight squeeze without even relizing it. Her own anger larg from this situation.

Walking over to the table Aerith over hears enough of the conversation to know it was about work. A smile spreading across her face Aerith slids into the booth next to Wyatt.

"Is all you guys ever talk about is work? I feel left out here you know."

Leaning over Aerith gives a kiss to Wyatt cheek before snuggling a little into his side.

Entering the infermary Misty gives a wave to Rick as she walks to her desk. Spotting the flowers that layed there she didnt need to ask why they were from she alreayd new. And like thunder and light coming up unexspectily a clash of emotions is her heart braught a pain that that made her feel lower than low.

Picking up the phone as she sits down Misty knows what she has to do. For the sake of the one she cared about so much she had to do this even if it hurt.

Getting Kyles answering masheen Misty lets out a sigh. She hated talking to these things and she hoped Kyle would get her message.

"Hey you..."

Misty pauses for a moment.

"...I was wondering if your not busy tonight if we could have dinner. Well...get back to be Hun. I L...."

Misty stops for a moment biting her toung. Maybe at one time she would of said it but now everything was so upside down and it tore her apart. No, she couldnt say it for Kyle's sake she couldnt.

"I'll talk to you later."

Yeah

Carson looks at Misty, knowing that he wasn't alone with the jumbled thoughts and questions. But neither had time to figure it all out now... neither had sorted through everything in their mind enough to attempt talking it through yet.

Letting her go, he steps back, absentmindedly picking up a towel again, preparing to get back to work with Herb.

Hearing Misty's question, he looks back up quickly, eying her for a moment. She didn't normally come here to eat. He had no reason to be at TJY anytime soon. He didn't even have his own phone. But... yes, he would see her again.

"Yeah." An ever-so-slight smile quirks the corner of his mouth, and a new spark flashes briefly in his eye. "Yeah...you'll see me again."

His faces shows his weariness, his eyes showing how tired he was of the battle he had been fighting. But he had strength to keep going. And somehow... somewhere... this morning had given him a hope that he hadn't felt in a very long time.

Watching Misty pack up and leave, he just stares at the empty doorway for several moments. Part of him almost wondered if all this had really happened. The throb in his finger proved it had, and he looks down at the neat job Misty had done.

Sighing, he finally turns and tries to concentrate on work. "Sorry, Herb," he apologizes. "Where we at?"

Jason slides into the booth at Mom and Pop's, waving his greeting to Aerith. At the same time, he makes a mental note to stop by again soon. It had been a while since he'd actually talked with her, and he missed their conversations.

Wyatt grins as his friend joins him. "Let me guess. This wasn't just a social call."

Jason chuckles. All he'd said on the phone was that he wanted to meet for lunch and Wyatt had agreed. "Can't it be?"

"Not with you." Wyatt shakes his head with humor. "Though you said Katie was coming. That makes it a little more social."

"A little." Jason grabs a napkin to fiddle with. "Naw, just figured the company would be good, and I wasn't going to venture in to TJY today, so I wondered what was happening there."

"Ahh." Wyatt nods. "Well..." He stops, seeing Katie come into the restaurant. His smile widens. "Hey, stranger." He saw her at work all the time, but lately hadn't had much of a chance to talk, and not having her around the office, a bit of life had been missing.

Wyatt holds off on continuing his sentence until they were settled and their orders had been made. "Little bit of excitement this morning..." He rolls his eyes. "I don't know exactly what happened, but by the time I looked, Scott had tripped and fallen or something and Austin was yelling at him about Domino, then Rick was yelling back at him and I don't know what the end result was. A while later I saw Sapphire and Scott leave... I think she took him home."

Jason grits his teeth.

Sounds like the tyrant is still on the warpath. Scott wasn't ready to go home yet... I wonder why Rick let him.

He shakes his head. "How's your dad feel?"

"Terrible." Wyatt leans back in his seat, his ponytail hidden from view. "It's almost like for the first time, his hands are truly tied. And I think it's the first time he's wondered if he belongs somewhere else."

"He was part of TJY from the very beginning!"

"I know... but it's not TJY anymore, Hotshot. Did you know about the signs to the lower level?"

"What?"

Wyatt cringes. "There are signs on the elevator and stairway doors now that go down to the lower level. They say "Employees Only." Con came late yesterday to work out and ended up stalking out, madder than a hornet. I don't think he even told Jamie he was leaving, he was so upset."

"Aw, come on." Jason rolls his eyes, his anger starting to rise again. He didn't bother keeping a cap on it. He knew Katie would get the brunt of it, but he wasn't going to make himself sick today.

Wyatt shrugs. "None of us know what to do."

"Well... Katie and I haven't exactly been sitting on our hands."

"Oh?"

"You didn't hear it from us, but... Austin might be under investigation for an incident or two."

Wyatt lifts an eyebrow. "Oh really?"

"Not a word past this table," Jason warns. "Or we could all have heck to pay." He shakes his head, figuring it best if nothing more was said on that subject. "So Scott went home?"

"I think so. I was going to ask Rick when I got back, then might suggest I, or someone else, go sit and watch the house overnight. I don't want anything happening, especially is first night there."

Phil yawns and glances up at the clock from his seat on the couch. Furrowing his brow, he checks it with his watch. It was nearing one o'clock. That was strange. Kyle only had to work until eleven this morning, and was going to be back here by noon to go over some songs.

Grabbing his cell phone, Phil dials his brother, but gets his voicemail. "It's me... wondered what was up for today. Plans changed? Call me."

Kyle keeps one hand on the steering wheel of his truck, while his other picks up his phone after the message had been left. Listening to it, he simply flips the phone shut again, then tosses the whole thing into the back seat. It would go unanswered the rest of the day.

Turning up the music on the CD player, he presses his foot more firmly on the gas pedal, creating more distance between himself and town.

Scott sits in the middle of the barren living room, the shades drawn, only a dim light being allowed through the cracks. The house was empty... so empty. He had known that it would be this way. He had imagined what it would look like. But seeing it for himself... it was still a shock he did not appreciate feeling.

Pulling his knees up close, he looks up at the empty wall where he used to have frames that showed off his photography. The corner that held all his magazines was empty. There was no furniture. The back room no longer held his computers and cherished cameras. It was all gone.

Sapphire had been kind enough to bring him today, but he hadn't wanted her to go in with him. He'd waited until she was gone to enter alone, Domino as his only company.

Upon arriving, there had been a strange bundle waiting for him with no name as to who had brought it. But it held a blanket and pillow, a bit of food and some dogfood. Scott didn't know who had brought it, but something told him it had originated with Susanne. He wished he didn't need to be looked after like that, but he couldn't complain. It would get chilly in the house tonight... the electricity hadn't even been turned on yet. Logically, it was ridiculous that he wanted to be here. But he just... wanted to be away from TJY. He wanted to be away from all the eyes. He wanted to be away from all the opportunities to continue making a fool out of himself.

He didn't know what would happen after this. He didn't know what tomorrow would bring. He didn't know how he could function now at all. He had no money... he had no transportation... he had absolutely nothing. He didn't like needing to depend on others, but he would have to. Though part of him didn't even care. Part of him wished he could just stay here and fade away so it would be all over. Part of him wished that he never would have been rescued.

Domino comes trotting up to him, seeming to be happy to be back in her old house, but as she tries to play with her master, she receives no response. Giving a little disappointed sigh, she finally gives up and goes to curl up in the corner where her bed used to be.

Scott closes his eyes and rocks back and forth. Never had he faced emotions like this before... never had he ever felt so utterly lost.

And he hated it.

Axel wipes his greasy hands on a rag and walks across the shop, stepping over tools and hoses.

"Yo Grease! You taking that car out?"

Axel shakes his head. "She's coming to pick it up. Bringing the loaner back too." He continues to the office, grabbing a bottle of iced tea from the vending machine. Flopping down in the chair, he glances at the clock, his stomach growling. He'd wait. Just a while longer.

Reasureing

Looking back into Carson's eyes as he pulls away Misty can see the questions that fill them. Some where differnt from her own, yet most were the same. It was hard to give answers to question that you wernt even sure about. All Misty new was this moment, and this moments held feelings. Though they were confusing and held much question on top of question Misty new there would be much to talk about.

Resting her head aganst Carson's for a moment Misty closes her eyes. She didnt want to leave right now, she didnt want to go back to work. But knowing she had to Misty lets out a sigh before looking up at Carson. It felt like if she left she might never see him again though she new that was silly.

"I guess I should be back. I've been lucky so far not to feel the wrath of Austin but I am sure its coming."

Moving away from Carson Misty goes over to the counter to finish packing up her things and grabing her bag before she heads to the door. Stoping Misty turns and looks at Carson, giving a smile. She couldnt help it, she had to ask, she had to reasure herself.

"I'll see you again?"

Protocol

Carson lets himself be enveloped in the passionate exchange, his ideas the day before having flew out the door completely. All that was left was a longing for this moment not to end. For within this second when time stood still, he had purpose… he had life.

What was going on in the other room didn’t matter. The bell that signaled people coming and going didn’t matter. They were alone, if only in their moment.

Finally drawing away, he keeps his arms around Misty, looking into her eyes once more. What all this meant, he didn’t know. Where they went from here, he hadn’t a clue.

An ever-so-slight sign of sadness flickers in his eyes… a remnant of what his plans had been… what he thought had been the answer to his problems. But how could he leave it all behind now? He didn’t know. He didn’t know now what his plans were. Could it work? Could they really start over? Could he really have another chance? And could he really not mess things up this time? He wasn’t convinced. But he didn’t want to back away yet either.

“You better get back to work,” he reminds softly. “I hear protocol is getting tight over there.”

Rick looks up from his work as he hears the light knock at the door. “Come in,” he calls. As the door opens, he raises his eyebrows. “Didn’t you find her?”

Kyle nods. “Yeah… yeah, I did.”

Rick eyes him with confusion. Kyle was still holding the flowers he’d had the first time he’d come, and he hadn’t been gone but fifteen minutes. “Well was everything okay at Mom and Pop’s?”

“Um. Yep.” Kyle nods and walks over to Misty’s desk, setting the bouquet down, then hunting for a piece of paper and a pen.

Rick watches him, still confused. “What was wrong? Who was hurt?”

“Hmm?” Kyle finds a notepad and spots a pen. “Oh, somebody cut their hand or something.” He squints at the blank paper for a moment, then scribbles out a note.

“Miss T – Flowers for you to brighten your day…”

He pauses, the pen hovering above the paper for several moments.

“…Sorry my hours changed, can’t make it to the caves. Have fun. Call me, we’ll do something else…”

Stopping again, he sets the pen down and tears the piece of paper off, crumpling it up and tossing it into the waste basket. He sighs and just stares at the notepad again. Finally he just sets the pen down and leaves the flowers without a note.

Rick quirks an eyebrow as Kyle heads out. “Want me to tell her anything for you?”

“Nah.” Kyle smiles and shakes his head. “Words just mess things up anyway.”

Rick chuckles. “Let flowers do the talking… that’s what I always say.”

Kyle nods with amusement. “Agreed. See ya.”

“Yeah… take it easy.” Rick watches Kyle leave, then shakes his head, still a little confused, but letting it go. It wasn’t any of his business anyway. In the back of his mind though, he feared something was amiss.

Kyle hooks his hands in his jeans pockets and ambles back through TJY, making his way to the parking lot once more.

What counts..

Hearing thats Carson had missed her makes the hair on the back of her neck stand up as her heart beat starts to speed up even more. How those woulds sounded so sweet to Misty's ears. Like they had been lacking water for so long and had now just got some. Being able to breath her own whisper as the emotions pools in her voice Misty replys.

"I'm missed you too."

Being close to Carson again Misty felt that spark, that glimmer that had gone out so long ago. The feeling, the life was back. Misty had been mad and she had every right but now it seemed like it was gone, lost. Misty had seen a new side to Carson the other day at TJY, slowly he was changing. He was trying to make himself better and that was what mattered.

As Misty feels Carson pull her closer to him and he runs his finger down her face she closes her eyes and forgets where exaclt they were. Once again like before in the infermary all that mattered was just them. Time has stoped, stood still and was waiting on them.

As soon as Carson's arms wrap around her and his lips press against her own Misty brings her hand to Carson's face to cradle it before bringing it to the back of his head while her other hand finds his back rubbing it ever so softly. And as the kiss continues Misty lets the sweetness wash over her as with every moment her passion growing stronger. She's missed this, She had missed the feeling, she had missed....Carson.

"MABLE....."

Herb stands cross armed at the front counter looking at his wife as she peeked through the window the lead into the kitchen.

"Would you please mind your own business?"

"But Herb....I think they are going to get back together. There kissing, and I think its good they belong together you know."

"That might be so Mable but its non of your business to go around peeping on people and making asumptions you know."

Mable can't help the smile that spread across her own face as she moves away from the window and grab a few menu's for the people that just walked in.

"What would I do without you to remind me."

Passing Herb Mable gives him a kiss on the forhead and than heads to the table of the new customers.

Looking to Aerith Herb just shakes his had and rolls his eyes.

"Women."

Aerith cant help but let out a small laugh as she puts her book back down that she was reading.

"Yeah but you love her and thats what counts right?"

"Ah, that you are right on that you are. No matter how nosie that woman is I wouldnt trade her for anything."

Have to stop

Carson holds his gaze on Misty, his thoughts all colliding in his mind. He'd made a decision... after yesterday, he'd had it all planned out. But seeing her again... none of it mattered. It had been that way since the very first day he'd met her. No matter his plans, no matter his determination, she could change everything in an instant, just by being there. He'd wanted to walk away... he'd wanted to realize his mistakes and simply move on from it all without looking back... without another chance to mess things up. He'd made up his mind for good. But now... receiving her gift... knowing she still cared so much... seeing her here... being close to her once more... How she had such power over him, he would never know.

Feeling her hand on his face, he closes his eyes for a moment before looking back at her with a look that held so many thoughts and emotions. He was at war again, with no answers in sight. Oh, how he wanted to start over. And just as badly, he wanted to walk away and not take another chance.

A whisper comes without him even thinking. "I've missed you so much."

Reaching up, he takes her hand from his face, planting a gentle kiss on her fingers. Something he had told her so very long ago comes back to him once more. "You've got me so messed up that I don't even know which way is up anymore."

His eyes roam hers, forgetting his surroundings, or the pain in his hand. He didn't know what he wanted. He didn't know what he needed. All he knew that whenever Misty was around, he felt alive... and it was a feeling he'd been without for far too long.

Drawing closer, he cautiously pulls Misty towards him, not knowing if it was good idea or not, but almost unable to help himself. She was the only woman who ever had affected him like this.

Carson cradles her cheek with his hand, running his thumb down to her lips and chin. "You're going to have to stop doing this to me," he whispers.

In the next moment, his arms are wrapped around her in a warm embrace, his lips pressed to hers.

Always

As Misty works on Carson's finger she used the utmost care as not to prick wrong ore make any slips. Even though at one point in time he was ever so made at Carson the thought of causing him pain only made her feel sick.

Everyonce and a while Misty's eyes would gaze up at Carson as she tryed to sapress a smile on her face. She couldnt help the butterflys that still fluttered in her stomach and the racing of her heart it was just something that happend.

Finally after Carson was all sticked up Misty moves away and washes up her hands and the few tools she used placing the needle in a bag to bring back to the infermary to dispose of. Going back to the counter she stands to put her stuff away untill she feels Carson warm hand on top of hers. Turning a little Misty looks up at Carson stairing deep into his blue eyes. Misty mind races as she almost gets lost in the deepths of Carson's eyes. They seemed to go on forever as the mystory still layed in them even after Misty new almost everything about him.

As Carson's hand brushes Misty's face lightly and pushes the strang of hair behind her ear, Carson's words meet her ears pulls her out of the transe she had fall into. Finally giving a shiver the old sassy grin plays on Misty's lips. Something not seem for some time.

Bringing her own hand to the side of Carson's face Misty runs a finger over his cheek and down the side of his face for a moment before replying.

"I'll always come back to mend the wounds. Because I care that much."

Tried that once

Scott would rather argue about whose office this was, but decides not to. Dalton was just trying to be nice, so he'd let him.

Thinking about not letting Austin be right, Scott grits his teeth, remembering the interrogation. But what if Austin really was right? Scott certainly didn't feel capable of doing anything right at the moment, and therefore it was better for TJY if he wasn't there. It was a terrifying thought... losing his job... but what if it really was for the best? Dalton didn't seem to think it was though.

"I don't know how to win," he finally responds numbly. Setting the half-empty can down, he stands up, leaving the program as it was for Dalton to fix himself. But as he steps away from the desk, he pauses. It felt like a game between who was trying to make who feel better. Maybe today he'd give in.

Turning back around, he reaches down and hits just two key combinations. The program automatically restarts, scanning for bugs and fixing glitches before it resets itself.

Hesitating, he turns again, aiming for the door. "I... guess I'll see you around."

Taking Domino's leash, he heads out of the office, closing the door behind him. Slowly, he goes to Sapphire's cubicle, his eyes constantly shifting to make sure Austin wasn't near. Reaching his sister's space, he knocks lightly. "I, um..." He hated asking favors of her... she looked busy. "If... if you still don't mind, I... guess I'd like that ride right about now."

As Misty appears in the kitchen, Carson looks up, his pulse quickening. Not saying anything, he just stands at the sink, letting Misty take over. He doesn't react to the pain. The only thing he really feels is her hands on his, and how warm they felt.

As she preps the needle, he tenses just a little, knowing what was to come. Cringing just a little, he’s surprised when Misty finally looks him in the eye, advising him about looking away.

Just staring into her eyes for a moment, he swallows hard. “I tried that once,” he responds quietly. “But it only made the pain worse.”

Though it hurt, his fingers wrap around Misty’s for a moment before he finally breaks his gaze to look up at the ceiling. He winces as he feels the needle, but knows better than to flinch. Not particularly wanting to watch her sew up his finger either, he just braces himself against the sink, letting her work.

Once the stitches are in place and a bandage is around his first finger, he grabs a towel to wipe up the mess on the counter. Stopping though, he looks to Misty again, seeing her putting her things back into her bag.

On impulse, he reaches out to lay a hand on hers, stopping her work for a moment. Looking down into her eyes once more, he tries to see what she is thinking… what she is feeling.

A bit of heat crawls up the back of his neck as a million and one thoughts fly through his mind. Everything about yesterday comes back… all the feelings… all the confusion. And yet, right now, it didn’t seem to matter.

Moving his hand, he reaches out to tuck Misty’s hair behind her ear so he can fully see her face. His voice is quiet and low. “Thank you…” He pauses again. “If I cut another finger tomorrow, would you come back?”

Fear

Giving the can to Scott and than sitting down again Dalton was happy to see Scott at least taking sips of the drink. It wasnt the best thing for him but it was better than nothing.

"If you look close Scott you can tell I didnt change much in the office from how you have it. So really it is yours still because I didnt make it my own. As for being cut out for this job, I do believe you still are. "

Dalton takes a sip of his own pop before continuing. Working the words he wanted to say through his own mind to make sure they would come out ok.

"Don't let Austin be right Scott. I know it hurts, and I know you feel so lost, trust me I have been there. but dont let them win."

Looking up at Rick Misty quirks an eyebrow. She had been there moments before and everything seemed find. What had changed now? Could it have to do with the package she left and if it did was was going to happen?

"Ok, I'll grab myself. Was anything alse said?"

With in a few minutes Misty is pulling into Mom and Pop's and entering the restront. Throwing a smile to Areith she questions.

"Where is the person in need of a dr?"

Aerith can't help but giggle and point to the back room. He's in the kitchen.

Making her way to the back Misty wasnt sure what to exspect. Seeing Herb next to Carson and the blood over Carson's shirt and hand Misty instincs quickly kick in.

"Ok Herb get back to cooking before you customers start to complain."

Giving Misty a grin and a nod he heads back to cooking.

Opening her bag Misty takes out a few things to clean Carson's cut. Taking his hand in her she gets to work cleaning the wound and absintmindly talking to him.

Can't seem not to cut yourself at work huh?

Once the cut is clean Misty takes a close look at it seeing how deep it was and that the blood was non stop. Telling Carson to put more pressure on it Misty goes back to her bag and pulls out a saring filled with novacain.

"Your gonna need a few stiches."

Continuing to prep the needle Misty walks back over to Carson taking his hand in one and holding the needle in the other. Remember Carson's fear of needles Misty finally looks up locking eyes with him.

"If you look away it wont hurt as much."

Medical Situation

Scott listens to Dalton, unsure what to think. He just sits for a moment, staring at the computer screen until he turns to see the Mountain Dew offered.

Contemplating, he shrugs and accepts. Leaning back in the chair, he flips the top, but only takes a small sip, unsure if his stomach would really appreciate the concentrated dose of sugar and caffeine.

Looking back at the computer, he stares at the program. “Dalton… my mind may not be functioning… but you can’t tell me that you don’t know how to fix this.”

He glances down, running his thumb along the pop can rim. “I…know you’re just trying to be nice… I don’t understand why… though I guess I appreciate it." He shrugs. "When I had this job, I always wanted an extra set of hands, so I know that even though you're smart enough to figure all this stuff out that it wouldn't be hard to fill two jobs. But..."

He concentrates on fiddling with the pop can tab. "...I don't think I'd be much help to you. Even... even if Austin would let me back, which would be a miracle. I just... I don't know if I can handle it anymore." He swallows hard, feeling a bit of heat come to his face as he recalls how stupid he's felt lately. "Things are different and... this is your office. Not mine... not ours... yours. And..."

Scott hesitates, the emotions suddenly back again. "This was the only place I ever fit in, ya know? It was my life. But... maybe I'm just not cut out for it any more. Maybe Austin's right. I just... I can't handle anything anymore, let alone this job." He takes another sip of pop, his hand shaking slightly.

Carson winces as Herb comes to help with his hand, doing as he's told. "Yeah, yeah... I don't know what I did. Guess I just wasn't watching it."

Hearing Mabel's statement, he rolls his eyes. "I seem to be in Neverland a lot lately."

Waiting for Herb to get the bandage out, Carson puts pressure on his wound, but the bleeding continues. "Doesn't want to stop," he mutters. It was a lot deeper cut than he'd like to admit, and it was already throbbing.

He lets Herb take over, too clumsy with one hand to do it himself. Hearing the question, he sighs. "Oh, I don't know, Herb..." Carson had gotten used to being able to talk to Herb... if there was anybody he trusted, it was him. It had taken him a while to get to that point, but now Herb was one of the few that Carson would talk to.

"I broke up with Jess last night," he finally admits quietly. "That's complicated in itself. I don't know what to do, I don't know where I fit... I don't know what my purpose is... I just..."

He's cut off as Mabel enters the kitchen with the bag. Still holding his bleeding hand over the sink, he peers inside, confused. Then realizing what it was, his eyes widen. He looks up quickly to Mabel again, trying to say something, but the words get stuck in his mouth.

Swallowing hard, he withdraws his hand from Herb, ignoring the pain and blood for a moment, in order to remove the sandwich from the bag. Staring at it, he can feel his insides melt. Misty. But…why? His mind reels. What was she doing? Why had she done this? He didn’t… he hadn’t… he…

His favorite meal… she knew… she remembered.

As if Herb and Mabel didn’t even exist, Carson suddenly exits the kitchen. Holding his hurt hand against his shirt, he ignores the blood stain it creates. Taking a few steps down the back hall, he goes for the phone and dials the number he somehow still remembered.

Hearing Rick’s voice on the other end of the direct line to the TJY infirmary, Carson clears his throat and asks for what he called for. Though not giving much information and knowing Rick was totally confused, Carson leaves it that way and hangs up. Leaning up against the wall, he closes his eyes for a moment, trying to regroup before finally going back to the kitchen.

Grimacing, he puts his bloody hand back under the sink’s running water. “I don’t think this is gonna hold with a bandage,” he mutters.

Rick hangs up the phone, his eyebrows lifted. He blinks, then furrows his brow, confused. He’d gotten back into the infirmary from Austin’s office just in time to grab the phone. Turning around, he calls across the room to Misty. “Uh… Misty? You’re needed for a medical situation down at Mom and Pop’s. I suggest taking a first aid kit.”

Penny

Sitting in the other chair that was close to where Scott was Dalton lets out a small sigh. Just eyeing Scott for a moment Dalton finaly speaks. His tone is the normal gruff but there is a certin softness to it that even saprises the Hulk himself.

"We all need help sometimes. Even the Hulks and the Tanks. There is a lot of stuff I don't know about these programs that you do. I'd like to work with you not inplace of you. So you might want to but don't give up yet. Now, I still could use some help if you are willing to offer it or you can go. It your choise I wont hold you here, but you welcome for this to be your safe haven whenever. Its your office to after all. It always will be."

Standing Datlon streaches a little and goes to the tiny fridge that was in the far courner pulling out a can of Moutain dew. Taking out another he holds it up to Scott asking if he wanted one as well.

Hearing the knife hit the ground Herb turn fast as he quickly makes his way over to Carson at the sink.

"Make sure you clean that out good and pure pressure on it so it stops bleeding. You might need stiches for it."

Leaving the kitchen for a moment Herb comes back with a first aid kit. Digging through it for some ointment and bandages.

Hearing the noise in the Back Mable peeks her head through the window.

"You know if you didnt stair off into never never land you wouldnt try to take a finger off."

Looking up at his wife momentarily Herb shakes his head.

"Would you go back to work and let us take care of them please?"

Rolling her eyes Mable goes back to take orders.

Taking Carson hand and looking at it Herb speaks again.

"Penny for you throughts?"

A few minutes pass and Mable enters the kitchen again a brown paper bag in hand. Going over to Carson she holds it out for him.

"I'm not sure who left this Carson but it has your name on it. I would guess it would of been Jess but than again I would think she would of asked for you. The funny thing is the person must of come in and out because I didnt see anyone."

Inside the paper bag was a grilled cheese sandwatch and a few chips. Only a few people would know who this lunch was from.

Two of us

All the way in Susanne's office, she can hear the arguing and raised voices, her own anger remaining. Austin was being unreasonable, and no one could tell him otherwise unless they wanted to risk their job.

Her fingers hit her computer keys harder as she pulls up the files that Austin wanted. Never before had she ever contemplated quitting her job. But today she was coming close.

As Austin stalks by to go to his own office, Susanne looks up, her eyes following him. What had gotten into him? What had changed him? He used to be a friend to everyone here, and now all he was doing was making enemies.

Sighing, Susanne listens, but can't hear any more voices out on the main floor. Craning her neck, she can just make out a few agents near the spot where Scott was. Knowing he had help, she tries to get back to work, but her mind just wouldn't let her. She felt so sorry for Scott... she'd always given him such a bad time before when he'd be so clumsy, but the current situation just went to prove how much she really cared about him. She was old enough to be his mother, and though maybe she never let it show, she had always tried to look out for him one way or another. These recent events bothered her to no end, and Austin's behavior was like salt to a wound.

Pausing her work to think a moment, Susanne recalls how Scott looked. He was so thin... so very thin and pale. The dark circles under his eyes proved he wasn't getting any good sleep, and his lack of weight gain proved he hasn't been eating well either. His spirit had been broken, that much was evident.

Susanne cocks her head to make sure she can't hear Austin's voice in Reese's office, ensuring he wasn't coming back out right away. Picking up her phone, she dials quickly, then gives the person on the other end some quick instructions before hanging up and getting back to work.

Scott hears Dalton’s voice and slowly lifts his head, glancing up to see the tall man for just a second before dropping his eyes again. He felt so stupid. Sitting here on the floor… how much lower could he get? How much more could he embarrass himself? He’d just felt so… trapped.

Swallowing hard, he contemplates Dalton’s offer. Fidgeting with a thread on his jeans, he can’t seem to make up his mind. What was the point in helping? He didn’t have a job here anymore, and he knew it, no matter how the others tried to hide it from him. He catches the word “our” and wonders about it, though doesn’t ask. Surely it was just a slip of the tongue on Dalton’s part.

Before he can answer whether or not he’ll help, Sapphire comes with her offer to take him home. Finally looking up, he eyes her for a moment, sensing the old feeling once again that somewhere deep down he missed his sister. His eyes roam to Dalton, then Nate, then back again. He felt like such a child sitting here looking up at them. They weren’t judging him… they weren’t putting him down, or trying to make him feel foolish… but he did.

Once more, he sees Dalton’s outstretched hand. And slowly… slowly, he reaches up with his own to take it to help him stand. Emotions threaten to spill out of his eyes, but he holds them back, keeping his gaze to the floor. “I’ll help,” he mumbles.

Then he gives Sapphire a quick glance. “And when I’m done… you can take me home.”

Domino looks up at Nate, still in his cubicle, and hangs around his legs for several minutes before daring to look around the corner again. Seeing her master up, she wanders toward him, dragging her leash along behind her.

Scott bends down to pick up the leash, clutching it tightly as if afraid if he let go, he’d lose his little friend for good. “Okay….” He aims his speech to Dalton once more. “I’ll come look at the program.”

Following along numbly behind Dalton, he goes back to the office, standing to the side a moment until the door is shut, and he goes to the extra chair as he had the last time. Domino sits down by the door, quietly waiting.

Scott eases down in the chair and blinks, his eyes stinging just a bit. Embarrassment for his display hung on, even though Dalton didn’t seem to be the type to talk about it.

He studies the computer screen for several moments, furrowing his brow. And finally, his shoulders drop just a little, and he sighs, leaning back in his chair. He eyes the floor at his feet. “This is easy stuff, Dalton,” he comments softly. “If you didn’t know how to fix this, you wouldn’t have had a position in Arizona. You need me like you need a kick to the head.”

Finally he musters up enough courage to look up to see Dalton’s eyes. His own reflect discouragement and sadness, his tone remaining quiet. “I don’t know why you’re doing this… TJY doesn’t need two of us. Austin’s right. And… you’re the one with a stable mind. I’m beginning to think I’ve got a screw loose. So… why don’t I just go have my sister take me home and… I’ll leave you at it?”

Carson moves about the kitchen, trying to keep up with the group that had come in late morning, all hungry. Even between him and Herb, sometimes it was hard.

His hands were busy, though his mind wasn't where it should be this morning. All he could think about was last night with Jess, and his recent encounter with Misty. Thinking about it over and over and over, still he couldn't feel at peace about any of it. He knew he'd made the right decision about Jess, but that didn't make him feel any better. And he knew that it just couldn't work between him and Misty anymore, but that didn't make him feel any more decisive about it. He was just...

Carson's thoughts are brought to a screeching halt, his knife clattering to the floor. Blood trickles down his hand from the deep cut on his finger and a curse slips out under his breath. Leaving his place, he moves to the sink to wash out the wound, disgusted with himself. He couldn't let his mind wander... not here when he was supposed to be working.

Help

Over hearing the camotion as he came down the hall Dalton raises an eyebrow. Staying in the distince he just watches as Austin and Rick go back an forth untill his eyes fall to Scott. He couldnt help but feel sorry for him. It seemed like so long ago Dalton had felt so scaired of life and people, not for the same reasons as Scott but the feeling was still there.

Keeping his distince untill Austin was gone Dalton slowly make his way over to Scott giving Nate a nod that he was not going to cause any harm.

Not standing quite as tall as normal Dalton holds the papers he had in one hand while he held the other out in friendship to help Scott up.

"I had another problem with one of the programs I was trying to work on. I was hoping I would catch you before you left to try and fix it for me again. I tryed working on it all day and I am just not sure what I am doing wrong.'

Dalton dosnt smile as Scott but that was ok just something about his face showed there was a smile. He new once again he was telling a fib but he had over hurd Rick wanting to have Scott stay and if this ment he would than Dalton was happy to help. Though he still couldnt put his finger on what it was about Scott that drew him in Dalton new there was just something about him.

"We can even take Domino into our office. Austin can keep her from the building but that office is our right? So that means we have a say in who is in it."

The words "Our" slip so easy from Dalton's lips that he dosnt even skip a beat saying them. They seemed the right words to say and he new they were.

Sapphire looks up fast from her desk as Rick starts to talk to her. She had overhurd part of what went on but tryed to lose herself before she could consintrate to much on it. She hated fight and tryed not to get into the middle.

Hearing Rick's request Sapphire gives a nod and stands from her desk.

"Yeah I will see what I can do."

She didnt get along to well with her brother anymore but that didnt mean she was just going to feed in to the wolfs. Weather she said it alot or not she cared alot for her brother still.

Walking over to where Nate and Dalton already where Sapphire gives Nate a small smile and than looks to Scott taking her keys from her pocket.

"Hey you ready to go home little brother?"

Sapphires eyes question him as she bends down to try and help completly unawair of Dalton's question.

Seeing that Sapphire didnt know Nate stands.

"Dalton was just asking for his help actully with some computer stuff. That was if Scott wanted too."

Looking at Nate than Dalton and back at her brother Sapphire gives a small shrug.

"Its up to him. Whatever he wants to do it fine with me."

Struggle

Jason leans back in the kitchen chair, taking another swig of orange juice. A grin spreads on his face.

You're welcome.

He lazily glances to the clock, not having worried about getting up at any certain time. One hand absentmindedly strokes Trooper, who was sitting next to him, his head resting in his lap.

Yeah... I doubt I'll hear anything from Brown today. I'm not expecting any more news until after the meeting in a few days. You're right though... we might hear about it from Austin first.

He rolls his eyes and stands to finish his juice and put the glass in the sink.

Mm... lunch sounds good. I gotta take Clint's bike down to the shop and.... oh... I didn't tell you about that, did I. Long story. Anyway, want to meet at Mom and Pop's around noon? Maybe I can get Wyatt to come along... not that he needs an excuse to see Aerith. I'd like to find out what's up at work today without showing my face there if I can.

Bret's eyes start to dance before his lips begin to smile. He shifts his hand to curl his fingers around Charlotte's. "First off, I'm always careful. And second..." He locks eyes with her. "I would expect nothing less than to see you there whenever you can make it."

His smile remains as excitement starts to build. "I'll call Kirk back today and go from there."

Axel lifts his eyebrows at Jess' stuttering, unable to get a word in before she's already hung up. Blinking, he can't help a little chuckle, and shakes his head as he hangs up the phone. In the back of his mind, something warned him to tread lightly, but he knew he'd be skipping lunch today, just in case Jess had been serious.

Rick sits at his desk working, when he receives Misty's reply. Heaving a weary sigh, he knows that she is right. Scott had to want to go... They could all force him all they wanted to, but unless he wanted to be there, it wouldn't do any good anyway. He needed it, no doubt... but how would he see it for himself?

Scott sets his breakfast plate aside, having eaten only half, and hoping that Rick wouldn't bother him about it this morning. Domino perks up at his movements and hops off the bed, skittering to the door where she stops, turns around and looks back at him. She gives a little whine.

Scott bites his lip. The last couple days, other people had been available to help take care of Domino and take her outside for him. But he was getting tired of asking, and he knew that even though the others didn't mind, he also knew it was an inconvenience for them, and he hated asking.

Looking around, he sees both Rick and Misty busy with work. Domino whines again. Scott knows he's torturing the poor dog, and finally swings his feet over the side of the bed. Not really thinking about the fact that he's in his bare feet, he heads to the door. The tiles are cold, but he doesn't notice. He was all too used to that feeling.

Rick looks up from his desk. "Scott?"

"What?"

"Heading out?"

"Domino."

"Okay." Rick nods. He wanted to offer to help, but he knew that every time he did, it made Scott feel less and less capable, and that wasn't good either.

Scott hesitates at the door, but finally opens it, letting Domino out into the hall, then slipping out behind her.

Down the hall and to the main floor, he keeps his eyes down, not wanting to see all the people that were there this morning. He'd just as soon go unnoticed. He spots Susanne out of the corner of his eye, then Laura, but keeps on walking. If he stopped, he knew he'd want to turn right around and go back to the safe confines of the infirmary.

Once to the exit, he hesitates again, but he doesn't have much of a choice. Stepping outside with his dog, he stuffs his hands in his hoodie pockets, waiting impatiently. As he stands, the sound of a car catches his attention, and he looks up in time to see a vehicle park and Austin emerge. A fear immediately comes over Scott, and he backs up a step to the door. His heart racing, he looks around for Domino, almost frantic for her to be finished so he could go back inside. The outdoors were overwhelming enough without this too.

Not seeing the dog anywhere, but suddenly feeling paws on the back of his legs, he jumps in surprise. Not waiting though, he quickly scoots back inside the building to make his way back across the floor, this time faster than on his way out.

Just as he's reaching the corner near Nate's cubicle, he meets Susanne. Unfortunately, neither were paying attention. The collision is over in a matter of seconds, but the results make several other people cringe. Papers go flying, coffee splatters onto the floor, and Domino yelps as she's tripped over. Scott somehow winds up on the floor after trying to catch several papers and then avoiding stepping on his dog, while Susanne frantically tries to clean up.

"Ohhh, Scott, I'm so sorry," she apologizes.

"It was my fault," he mumbles. Sitting on the floor for a moment, he grabs some of her papers, noting that several are now stained with coffee. "I'm sorry."

"Nothing a copy machine won't fix." Susanne tries to make light of it, even though she now had to redo a whole stack of work.

"What is going on?!" Austin's voice makes everyone look up.

Scott slowly rises to his feet, backing up against the cubicle wall.

Susanne looks at Austin and shakes her head with a laugh. "We just ran into each other is all. No problems."

Austin's eyes widen slightly as a frown forms. "It hardly looks like no problem," he retorts. Spying Domino, he points at her. "I want that dog out of here. She does not belong in this building."

Scott blinks, putting another step of room between him and Austin. "She was just..."

"Look, I know she keeps you company," Austin retorts. "But get her out of here before she causes any more trouble."

"It wasn't her, it was.."

"I mean it!" Austin's voice is raised sternly. "Either you take her out, or I will."

Scott can't even bring himself to look Austin in the eye. Anger, frustration and hurt boil up inside of him, and he lowers hie head to quickly leave the scene, heading back down the hall.

Susanne frowns at her boss. "That was a little harsh," she mentions quietly.

"If harshness is what it takes to get the job done, so be it." Austin shoulders past her, on his way to his office. "See me in ten minutes for a list of records I need to see."

Only when his back is turned does Susanne throw up her hands and roll her eyes, muttering under her breath. Squatting down, she picks up the rest of her mess, then goes to get something to sop up the coffee too.

Scott pads down the hallway, the hot tears returning to his eyes. Entering the infirmary, he heads straight to the bed where he sits down, putting on his shoes and socks.

Rick looks up and eyes him with confusion. "Everything okay?" No answer. "Scott?"

Scott still doesn't answer him, and finishes tying his sneakers. Grabbing Domino's leash, he snaps it to her collar then heads to the door again.

Rick stands up. "Scott? Where are you going?"

"Home."

"But Scott! I said I'd take you tonight. What..." The door falls shut against his words. He looks to Misty with wide eyes, clueless about what had happened and now not knowing what to do. Desperate, he spins around and follows after Scott. He only catches up to him out on the main floor, in the same spot the accident had happened. "Scott, wait." He reaches out and puts a hand on Scott's shoulder.

Scott skids to a stop and sidesteps out from under Rick's hand. "Just leave me alone," he begs.

"I don't want to leave you alone. I want to help you."

"You can't." Scott winces as a salty tear forms in his blind eye, making it sting. "Just let me go."

"But I wanted you here for one more day. Just stay. Tell me what happened." Rick's desperation is evident in his voice as he tries to convince his younger friend to stay. But it did no good.

Scott turns back around, aiming once more for the exit. The outdoors were terrifying, but staying here was worse.

As a last resort, Rick steps forward and takes Scott's arm in a firm hold. "Don't go yet."

It was the wrong move. As Scott is physically held back, a wave of panic hits him. "No!" Ripping his arm loose, he trips and almost falls again. Rick reaches out to help him, but the more restraint he puts on Scott, the more Scott fights, and the more he fights, the more restraint Rick applies to try and stop him.

Seeing her master in what she considered danger, Domino starts to whine and bark, bringing even more unwanted attention to the scene.

Rick tries to hold Scott still, but to no avail. In an attempt to restrain him so he doesn't hurt anybody or himself, Rick tightens his hold and steps forward. But in doing so, he accidentally hooks Scott's foot.

Struggling blindly, Scott loses his balance and falls to the floor once more.

Rick is on his knees instantly. "Scott... calm down... please... I'm sorry, are you alright?"

Scott tries to get his bearings, his shoulder hurting from the fall. Backed up against the cubicle, he rights himself, bringing his knees up to his chest to wrap his arms around his legs and bury his face. He felt stupid, embarrassed and frustrated. Rocking slightly, he wills the tears not to come, and tries to banish the insistent fear.

"Scott," Rick repeats. "Are you alright?"

"Now what?!"

Rick looks up to see Austin with his hands on his hips. Rising to his feet again, Rick's face turns to one of irritation. "It's nothing. I'm taking care of it."

Austin sighs in disgust at seeing Domino again. "I said to get that dog out of here. She's caused enough damage!"

Seeing absolutely no mercy, and now wondering if that was what had set Scott off in the first place, Rick straightens, looking boldly up at Austin. "As Scott's physician, I authorized Domino's presence as therapy." He hadn't really, but he could have, and Austin was being ridiculous. "She's caused no trouble, nor has Scott."

"You call this no trouble?" Austin gestures to all the people who had stopped working to see what was going on. "You get your patient under control and get rid of his dog. I've said it for the last time!"

"So help me, Austin!" Rick's voice raises with a righteous anger. "This 'patient' is your agent! He's a human being! Stop treating him like a burden and try to understand! You're the one that has caused the damage around here. You are the one responsible for the well-being of those in this building, or have you forgotten that?"

Trembling at all the shouting, Domino tries to find comfort in Scott, but she can't get his attention, and finally she scoots around the corner into Nate's cubicle, searching for a place to hide.

Austin's eyes narrow, his jaw tightening. "How dare you," he hisses to Rick. "Stand down, or Scott won't be the only one here without a job."

Rick's fingers curl to form fists at his sides. There were so many things he'd like to say right now. So many things Austin deserved to hear. But now he couldn't. He had been warned... he had been threatened. For his own sake, and others, he could argue no more. Rick takes a deep breath. "I will handle this situation," he response coolly.

"Good." Austin points to the end of the main floor. "I want to see you in my office about some policy changes. Now."

Rick's eyes widen and he gestures to Scott. "I'm trying to..."

"Now! He'll have to pick himself up. He's a grown man, not a little kid."

"But I..."

"One more time, Rick!" Austin glares at the physician. "Follow me now, or you won't have a reason to come back tomorrow."

A curse is on the tip of Rick's tongue, but he resists. "I'm right behind you," he mutters. "Let me at least grab a notepad."

"Fine. You have one minute." Austin spins on his heel and stalks back towards his office.

Rick is seething, with no way to express it. He was angry at Austin, and he was desperate to help Scott. Nothing was going right. Nothing was turning out for the best. Was he doing a bad job? Was he doing something wrong? If he just would have been paying closer attention this morning...

Groaning, he tries one more time to get Scott up. He kneels next to him, speaking gently. "Scott... please... come back to the infirmary, okay?"

Scott keeps his face buried, his words muffled. "I wanna go home."

"I know you do. But I can't take you right now." Rick waits for a response, but receives none. Sighing, he stands back up at a total loss. He didn't have any choice but to go see Austin and leave Scott here.

Looking in to Nate's cubicle, Rick's eyes show he's at his wit's end. "I'm sorry," he apologizes quietly. "Stay here a minute with Scott, would you?"

Trusting Nate, Rick turns around and takes a detour before heading to Austin's office. Stopping at another cubicle, he leans over the wall, tapping on it lightly. "Sapphire?" He looks at her with seriousness, knowing she'd probably heard half of the ruckus already. "I need your help. We have to get your brother out of here before Austin can cause any more damage. I didn't want Scott going to an empty house, but there's not much of a choice left. I'm asking you... would you see if you can get him up and take him home? I'll deal with the fallout from Austin if he finds out."

Scott remains on the floor, tightening his grip around himself. All of this was his fault. People were risking there jobs, all because of him. Why did he have to keep making mistakes? Why did he have to feel so stupid and continue to embarrass himself? He wanted to get up... he wanted to do what Rick asked... but something inside had such a strong hold on his will, that he couldn't. He was so emotionally drained, that the effort of simply getting up and walking to the infirmary was too big of a battle to face. He rocks a little more as if hoping if he could just stay here a little longer that soon all of this would just go away on its own. He just wanted it to go away... he just wanted to stop the pain... stop the fear.
