Feelings... Circumstances... Change

Jason heads towards home, ignoring the silent conversation that had been left basically hanging. He was hurt, he was tired, and he couldn't even think straight. Somewhere he knew he'd been wrong to snap at Katie, but right now he was too upset to make it right.

Getting home, things didn't improve much. His emotional state sent his sugar levels spiraling, leaving him with the option to eat and drink something or take another pill, but the pills were at work. But once he'd eaten supper, the vicious cycle started all over again, making him sick. After an hour or two, the best he could manage was keeping down a little bit of orange juice, but that was it. Anything else resulted in a race to the bathroom where it all came up again.

Trying to sleep was a whole different story, leading to frustrated attempts, or nightmares when he finally could relax enough to sleep. By midnight, he felt as though he'd been run over by a truck. It was nights like these that he hated this thing they called a "gift." It was torment, is what it was, and there was no way to stop it. Well...there was... but he wasn't going to call on Katie this time.

The night was too long, filled with tossing, turning, and dreams that mostly revolved around memories of prison... The fights, the anger, the fear, the murders. Each memory was twisted and turned into something even more horrific. Around three a.m. he wakes up screaming, too late realizing that he'd just sent his clock radio into oblivion in a shower of sparks. Drenched in sweat, he finishes out the night on the living room couch instead. The only control he had was keeping the emotional door to communication locked, while letting his misery feed him.

Morning always follows the night. And though we know it, sometimes we still fight it. For the new day brings things which we cannot predict. It brings things that perhaps we might fear. It is the unknown that we don't wish to meet, and so we hold the night close, wrapped in the moonlight, and hoping for the miracle of a continuing night. But that hope is not powerful enough to stop the sun.

"Did you try calling him again?"

Jim sits at the table in their little house and nods, sipping on his hot cup of morning coffee. "Yeah." He looks up at his wife as she prepares breakfast for just them and Rosalyn who was out helping with chores.

"Nothing?" Becky frowns with worry.

"Nothing." Jim sighs and stares down at his coffee. "I've tried calling him about ten times now, and even left him some messages on his voice mail, but he hasn't picked up."

Becky turns back to the eggs that were sizzling on the stove. They were both worried about their son. No one had heard from Clint since yesterday, and no one knew where he was. They had even tried calling some of his other friends from town, but no one had seen him, or if they had, they weren't saying so. "What are we going to do?"

Jim is silent for a moment. He felt much of this was his fault. He wouldn't have taken back the words he said... He would never say Clint had been right, or that he had made a good decision with Wendy. He would always say that the choice had been wrong. But he probably could have used a quieter tone to counsel, not chew out. And now... he was gone, and they could only hope he would return for his own sake, and for Wendy's too. "I don't know. Pray. Wait."

Becky leaves the stove to come over, bending a little to put an arm around Jim's shoulders. "I'm sure it will all work out... I'm sure..." She only wish she were really as confident as her words implied.

Jason stands under the hot running water of the shower, wishing that all his frustrations could head down the drain like everything else. Without much sleep, and no good sleep, he hadn't wanted to get up this morning. But somehow the day had to go on. He wasn't quite as angry, but misery had settled over him. There were just so many more things now than just Scott. There were so many unanswered questions, some of which even made him question his own worth. How many lies had Austin fed him? And when had it started? Was it just within this last year that things had changed, or had it started before that? How much of what Austin had said was true? How much of the way he'd treated Jason had been real? Had Austin wanted him at TJY because he really was that good, or just to give him something to manipulate and use?

Leaning back against the shower wall, Jason doesn't care if he's wasting water or not. It was the only thing that felt good right now. He had to collect his thoughts... he had to stay alert, but get a handle on his emotions. He was hurt... so very deeply hurt by his grandfather. But letting it get out of control had already led to nothing but more misery. If he wanted to get through this with strength, and come out on the winning side, he needed to not care. He needed to put off dealing with this until later on when this whole thing with Scott was over, and until later on when things at TJY were more focused. Otherwise, he would just be letting his personal feelings get in the way of their mission.

Their mission... Jason reflects for a moment on the evening before, and when he'd left the police station. He'd been so mad at everything, and even at Katie. He still didn't understand how she could walk away from TJY. If no one stayed to stand up to Austin, what was the point? Austin could make a mess of TJY and make the agents miserable with his rules and regulations, but if everyone quit, where did that leave all the innocent people they'd sworn to protect?

Jason knew Katie had just been frustrated with the whole thing, but still... For a moment he had felt almost abandoned on their mission. And now... this morning.... he really didn't want to talk about it. He wasn't sure what made him feel worse... what Katie had said, or how he had reacted.

Though allowing a communication conduit to be open, he still kept half his emotions locked away. They were his and until he figured out what they were and how to deal with them, he didn't want to share them. The only bad thing was that while he kept them bottled up, they would continue to affect him physically.

Finally finishing his shower, he goes to get dressed. He wasn't sure what he was doing today, other than going to check on Scott, but he knew he couldn't just sit around here all day.

“I’d like for him to see somebody. A counselor or something.” Rick stands across from Reese in the breakroom, talking about Scott. “Physically, he’s healing up. This morning his vitals were good even though he had a rough night. He’s not eating very well, but if we can conquer that, hopefully he’ll gain back some weight. Otherwise, it’s just cuts and bruises that are diminishing.”

“But it’s his mind you’re worried about?”

Rick nods. “Yeah. I mean, I think it's his mental state that's hindering his appetite, so it all hangs together. I think if he just had some help working through some of the stuff he experienced, it would do him good. Not to mention his nightmares, and being afraid of his own shadow.”

Reese sighs deeply. “I was afraid of that. We got some agents here who could handle experiencing anything. But I don’t think Scott’s wired that way. Not a day goes by that I don’t kick myself for letting himself go on that mission.” He shakes his head. “If only I would have known it was the Agency.”

“It wasn’t.”

“What do you mean?”

Rick shrugs and leans back against the counter. “I know you told Scott to write up a report whenever he felt ready, but I’ve heard quite a bit from him, when he's been willing to talk. He said he lost his eyesight in his left eye from shrapnel from the explosion, not from Agency brutality. And he said it was a big coincidence that the Agency picked him up. I guess they were watching us, spying on the mission, then found him after the explosion. I still don’t know how Scott got out of there alive - he has yet to tell about that, but apparently the Agency simply took advantage.”

Reese shakes his head again. “He got a double-whammy. First the mission, then the Agency. If only…”

“If only,” Rick agrees. “But we can’t go back. All we can do now is help him get back on his feet. Think TJY can fund his counseling?”

“Yeah. You’ll just have to put it through Austin, per regulations, to get the go-ahead. Then we can find him somewhere to go.”

“Alright. Thanks, Reese.”

“Yeah, sure.” Reese watches Rick head to Austin's office, and just stands alone for several minutes before trying to get back to work.

Jason pulls on his jeans and a t-shirt, not bothering to comb his wet hair. Trudging to the kitchen, he knows he should at least try to get something in his stomach this morning. He wasn't quite as upset, so it was worth a try. Maybe something mellow like applesauce would be best.

Wandering around the kitchen, he absentmindedly picks up the phone and dials Reese's direct number. Finding out what was up today at TJY might be a good thing before he decided to drop in. Perhaps he'd even know Austin's schedule. As far as Jason was concerned, until this thing was over, he didn't mind avoiding his grandfather like the plague. As far as him meeting Katie there, or working with her today... obviously that was still up in the air.

“…so I just need your approval to go ahead and find somewhere for Scott to go. I’m confident that if he could talk to someone, that he would have a much better mental recovery.”

Austin looks up at Rick from his desk and shrugs. “Well, if you think it’s best for him, then I can’t argue. Can he afford it?”

Rick lifts his eyebrows. “I…assumed that TJY would be funding this.”

“Well we can’t afford it,” Austin states matter-of-factly.

“But…we have to. I mean… it was a TJY mission that Scott was hurt on.”

“I know that. But we’re not talking about his physical condition. You said yourself that he’s healing. I believe that’s where TJY’s obligation stops.”

Rick looks at Austin, stunned. “How can you say that? Scott is one of our own men! How can you deny him this?”

“Well I’m sorry, Rick! I just don’t think it should go under TJY’s expenses. He’s not even employed here anymore.”

“What?!” Rick’s eyes get even wider. He knew that had been a possibility, but it sounded now like it was set in stone. “How can you be doing this, Austin? First you terrify what was left of him, you leave him to suffer alone, then on top of that you even deny him help!”

“Look, protocol is…”

“Hang the protocol! Scott is one of our own! I don’t care if he’s not on the staff list anymore. I don’t care if TJY isn’t “required” to help him further. What happened to doing what’s right?” Rick’s voice starts to raise. “Scott doesn’t have a penny to his name, and his sister can’t afford this. It’s up to TJY.”

“I’m sorry.” Austin remains quiet and firm. “I will not approve funding.”

Rick opens his mouth to say more, but is too angry. At this point, he knew that if he said something to upset Austin, his job could be on the line. Gritting his teeth, he spins on his heel and stalks out, going through Reese’s office.

Reese looks up to watch Rick leave, having heard the whole conversation. His own blood boiled. This was utterly uncalled for, not to mention heartless. He’s just about to rise and walk into the office himself when his phone rings. Sighing, he answers it.

Jason kickes the refrigerator door shut, hearing Reese answer the phone. "Reese, it's Jason. Yeah... Hmm? No... just wanted to check in. Thought I'd swing by to see Scott. What? Yeah, well... we're working on something. Kind of. Best you don't know in case Austin questions you. ...uh-huh... No, but there might be more later."

He pauses, grabbing a spoon from a drawer, still listening. "Yeah, ok. So any change with Scott? ...Austin.... what... He did what?!" The news of Austin refusing to get Scott help sent Jason's emotions reeling all over again. What would his grandfather come up with next? How heartless could he really be?!

Catching himself, he caps off his anger once again. This was his own battle. But it had been released just long enough that he wondered if Katie now knew what he did. “I can’t believe this.”

He groans and leans against the counter, listening to Reese again. “Just gets better and better, doesn’t it. No… of course not. No, I won’t do anything stupid, but I’m not promising I won’t do anything. Naw. Alright. Thanks. Yeah, I might see you later.”

Jason hangs up, starting to pace. This was ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous. How could Austin refuse to help Scott? It was cruel! He'd been downright mean to interrogate him, now he was refusing to even show an ounce of mercy! What was he thinking?! And why?!

Setting his hands on the counter, Jason tries to stay in control. His negative emotions had already done a number on him, but there was no way to release them unless he wanted to start breaking things. He could throw them in Katie's direction, but at this point, he didn't even want to do that. She'd tell him to, and she'd tell him he needed it, and she'd tell him that it was unhealthy to keep it in... but in his mental state, he'd probably just end up causing more harm than good. Not to mention, he'd like to make up his own mind about it. He hadn't even talked to her at all yet today, and not only did that feel strange, but he wouldn't want to start out with just giving her a dose of his anger. He might be upset with her, but he wasn't going to lash out for no reason.

He was miserable. Plain and simple. He hadn't slept well, he wasn't feeling well, and he felt alone. Every moment, it seemed, the past would sneak up on him again. Thinking about Austin just send his mind in too many directions at once to handle.

Deciding he just needed to get out of the house, Jason grabs his jacket and aims for the door, forgetting about breakfast. But just as he reaches it, his phone rings. He was tempted to just walk out and let the answering machine get it, but he thinks better of it, and picks it up. It might be Reese again. “Yeah, hello?” He’s caught a little by surprise. “Hi. What, um… what’s the occasion?” He frowns, confused. “Um, sure…I think so. Alright. Yeah. Meet you in…. fifteen minutes? Uh… I don’t know. Downtown. Little restaurant on Main. Mom and Pop’s. Yeah. Alright. Bye.”

Jason grabs his keys and heads outside once again. Getting to his truck, slight worry surfaces. Something felt odd. Why did the caller want to meet him? It was very unusual. But…he was game to find out what this was all about.

The bell to Mom and Pop’s rings, and Carson looks out from the kitchen. It was a young man he’d never seen before. Something about him was familiar somehow, but not enough to make Carson pay much attention. He stays where he is, fixing several breakfast items.

When the bell rings again though, his eyes go back to the front, spotting Jason. Casually watching, he sees Jason join up with the stranger and they sit together, talking. Their greeting was fairly cordial… Carson would imagine they were fair acquaintances maybe.

Seeing that Aerith was taking care of them, Carson concentrates back on his work, ignoring his imagination.

The bell rings again. It had been about forty-five minutes, and the morning customers were slowing down. Carson glances out from the kitchen once more, seeing Jason’s friend leave. But Jason remained, seeming to have a lot on his mind. The meeting had been a quiet one without much excitement and very few smiles. It hadn’t seemed too tense, but the look on Jason’s face now wasn’t one of pleasure at seeing an old friend.

Carson checks what's on the stove then wipes off the counter before meandering out to the tables, curious at the depression in Jason's eyes. He didn't normally approach anyone from TJY... but for some reason today, he did.

"Hey, Jason."

Jason looks up from his half-empty glass of pop, and lifts an eyebrow. He wasn't used to Carson initiating a conversation. "Hey."

Carson cocks his head. "You don't look so hot, mate. Everything alright?"

"Yeah...yeah." Jason forces half a smile. "Just life, ya know?"

"Do I ever." Carson rolls his eyes. When Jason doesn't offer any more small talk, Carson hooks his hands in his pockets casually, just standing for a moment. As usual, when seeing someone from TJY, a bit of sadness surfaces from the past, and part of him missed seeing all his old friends. "Where's your sidekick?"

Jason quirks an eyebrow. "You mean Katie?"

"Yeah."

Jason looks down and sighs. Since he'd left his house, he'd blocked out almost everything from her for several reasons that he felt were legit, but it didn't feel very good. His whole stystem was out of whack because of their strain between each other, and he was tired. "I don't know."

Carson leans on the side of the opposite booth. "Problems?"

"I yelled at her," Jason admits. "Well... sort of. I don't know. I just... it's a long story."

"Just don't wait too long to get it worked out, eh?" Carson pauses, thinking about himself. "Sometimes that method doesn't work too well."

Jason looks back up at him, knowing good and well he was refering to Misty. "Yeah... you got yourself a girl now though, don't you?"

"Um..." Carson hesitates. "I guess I do."

Now it's Jason's turn to be curious. "You guess?"

Carson cracks a wry grin. "Another one of those long stories." He pauses, trying to change subjects. "I, um... was thinking about Scott earlier. How's he doing?"

"Ha!" Jason's sarcasm shows on his face. "He's hanging in there. It's our boss who's got a screw loose."

Carson's eyebrows raise. "Oh?"

Jason's eyes narrow, his irritation and anger resurfacing. "Yeah. Austin... you never met him. He's Carter's son."

"Your grandfather?"

"If you like." Jason grits his teeth. "He's back from Texas and is basically taking over with Carter's blessing. He's calling the shots, reorganizing things, and basically messing with things he shouldn't be."

"Ouch."

"Yeah, ouch." Jason rolls his eyes. "Not only did he not want us to even go on that rescue mission for Scott, but now he's saying that TJY isn't even responsible for helping him out."

Carson starts to frown. "What do you mean?"

"Rick recommended Scott get some counseling or something. Scott's just not handling things well. But Austin said TJY wasn't responsible. Thing is, Scott or his family can't afford bills like that. So he's left without the help he needs."

Carson can feel his own muscles tense. "You're saying that Austin is refusing psychiatric help for Scott?"

"That's exactly what I'm saying." Jason looks up at Carson, all his annoyance, anger, and irritation showing through. "Rick said he thought legally TJY would be responsible, but apparently Austin knew of a loophole, and apparently he thinks TJY's money could be better spent somewhere else. He said Scott would be just fine and that a shrink was a waste of time."

"What do you think?"

Jason shrugs. "For me? Counselors never helped me much. But that's just 'cause I got a weird way of handling things. I work through them on my own, and I can handle whatever happens. Scott..." He shakes his head slowly. "He's just not wired that way. He can't handle what's going on in his mind, but he's refusing to talk about it. He's having nightmares...the whole nine yards. I think that..." He pauses, weighing the options. "...he needs more help than we can give him."

Carson's mind starts to work overtime. He agreed. He knew exactly what Scott had gone through, and someone as unconditioned as he had been could really get messed up badly. "So that's it? TJY is just gonna let it go and hope he pulls out halfway decently?"

"Apparently. Though I think anyone else on staff other than Austin and Carter would disagree with their decision. Not to mention, people are getting up in arms, because on top of all this, Austin sacked Scott."

A strange anger starts to burn within Carson. Scott was one of the most innocent people at TJY. To think that someone didn't care about his mental health... his wellbeing... it wasn't right. Then to fire him too. It was a perfect example of kicking someone when they were down.

Turning around, he starts back to the kitchen, untying his apron, and talking over his shoulder. "You heading to TJY?"

Jason looks after him in surprise, and calls after him. "Later maybe. Why?"

"I wanted a ride."

Jason is a bit confused, but shrugs. "I guess I can go see Scott now, so you're more than welcome."

Carson slips back into the kitchen, hangs up his apron, and glances around for Herb. "Stepping out for a minute," he informs. "I'll trade this for my break later. I got something I need to do."

Exiting again, he heads to his room to grab his baseball cap and wallet. As he does, he eyes the little box under his bed. He was going to TJY...

Sighing, he reaches down, opens the box and pulls out the small item. Maybe it was time. Feeling a wave of melancholy, he swallows the lump in this throat and stuffs the item in his pocket. It was time, whether he liked it or not. The lines had been drawn and he needed to accept it.

Joining up with Jason near the front door, he follows him out, catching a ride to TJY.

Back at TJY and onto the main floor, Jason heads towards the hallway, looking at Carson with a bit of caution after their conversation on the way. "You sure you want to do this?"

"I'm sure." Carson glances in the other direction. "Through Reese's office?"

"Yeah, but..."

"Thanks." Carson doesn't wait for anymore from Jason, and walks boldly towards the back offices. Passing people he knew on his way, he simply offers a few nods. He'd planned on not being seen here on account of Misty, but today was different. Today he had a different purpose.

Jason looks after him and sighs a little, then heads to his own office. He shouldn't be here, but anyone had a right to at least see Scott. Getting to the infirmary, he finds Scott quiet but awake, not much different than the evening before. The exchange is brief, and Jason finds himself cautiously going to his office to check his email while he was here, then he would head out. The guys were having practice out at Mike's tonight, maybe he should just stay home until then.

Slipping into his office and shutting the door, one wouldn't even know he was there. But as he sits down in his chair, the one thing that crosses his mind is Katie. She'd know he was there. The longer the day went on, the worse he felt. He was sorry he'd snapped at her, but he was still upset about what she'd said. He didn't really feel like talking about it, but then again, if he was going to wind up alone in this thing, he should probably know about it.

Sighing, he flips on his computer. If Katie wanted to talk to him, she could... He wouldn't block her out, though his top emotion at the moment was irritation and she might not want to approach it anyway. He just needed to check his email, then get out of here fast before Austin saw him. It just felt strange without Katie here, whether he liked to admit it or not.

"Hey, Susanne."

Susanne looks up and a smile spreads across her face. "Well, Carson... it's been a while."

"Yeah." Carson offers a smile in return. "Looking for the boss today."

"Reese?"

"Austin."

Susanne quirks an eyebrow. "Well...he's in, as far as I know. You'll have to go through Reese's office."

"Alright. Thanks." Carson goes to knock on Reese's door and after hearing his voice, enters.

Reese glances at him in surprise. "Good afternoon, Carson. What can I do for you?"

"Let me see Austin?"

"Something wrong?"

"Yeah, actually." Carson crosses his arms. "I just had a short chat with Jason."

"About...?"

"Scott."

"And?"

"I want to see Austin."

Reese wasn't quite sure exactly what Carson wanted, but he figured it couldn't hurt. It really wasn't any of his business if a civilian wanted to see the man in charge. "Alright. He's in through that door."

Carson gives a nod of thanks, and in just a few moments, finds himself standing in front of Austin's desk, looking down at the man who he'd never met, but would have known in a crowd. Jason did look like his grandfather, no doubt. "Austin?"

"Yes?" Austin looks up with suspicion. "Can I help you?"

"It's not me who needs the help."

Austin catches the light accent in Carson's voice, and after a moment of thinking, realizes who this is. "Carson... Carson Banks?"

"That's right."

"Well, what's the problem?"

"The problem is that man you've got who needs help you're not willing to give."

Austin's defenses rise, though he remains seated. "I don't think I know what you're talking about."

"I'm talking about a man who risked his life, and has more guts than most people here, but is bound to mental torment without the aid of someone who could help him." Carson steps forward, leaning down slightly to rest his palms on Austin's desk, getting closer to the man that drove his anger. "Whether you are legally obligated or not, let me tell you something. Scott Johnson needs help. You're not stupid, Austin. You played the Agency game. But in case you've forgotten, let me remind you of a few things. They don't treat their prisoners well. They torture them. And how would I know? Because I was one of them."

Carson's voice remains on an even keel, though is etched with anger. "I bet I could lay out everything that happened to Scott in there, without even talking to him. They beat him. They beat him with their hands, and they beat him with blunt objects. They toyed with his mind and made him feel worthless, useless and weak. They told him lies about his friends, convincing him that people had died. They threatened to hurt those he loved most if he didn't cooperate. They showed him pictures of what happens to people who don't do what they want. They probably even brought in another prisoner to be beaten to death in front of him as an example. If they had a useless prisoner on board, I guarantee you that Scott saw them murdered. They gave him just enough food to survive, but not enough to nourish. They threw him in a hard, cold cell with rats to keep him company. They injected him with a formula created to induce such severe pain throughout the body that one would wish themselves dead. They interrogated him over and over and over again until his mind was mush. They stripped him of all his pride and dignity, leaving a sick, starved, shell of a man to die. And if his carcass stank, they'd throw it out."

By now, Carson is leaning further down across Austin's desk, his eyes narrow and blazing. "But luckily you had a few good agents working for you that weren't going to let him die. And he's been given a second chance at life. Can you really live with knowing that you are refusing to help a man that went through all that for your company? It was TJY's fault that he was taken, and it's TJY's responsibility to help him now. You're just lucky that you don't have a suicidal timebomb on your hands after what he went through."

Austin stares up at Carson, his face paled slightly, having been unable to get a word in edgewise. He knew what Carson said was true. He knew Carson had been there, and if anyone knew the most about this, it was Carson. He opens his mouth, but Carson cuts him off again.

"I don't want any reasons or excuses, because there aren't any. To think that you would refuse Scott help is despicable. And if I find out that you have not changed your mind, so help me, I'll put you through a torture that you'll never forget, then maybe you can relate to how he's feeling."

Austin's stare turns into a glare. "Are you threatening me?"

"Take it however you want. But I'm not lying. I don't have any best friends around here, and I was never close to Scott. But just knowing that he survived the Agency, and hasn't killed himself since he got back tells me that he's a man worth saving. How dare you even consider letting him fall between the cracks."

Carson straightens back up and steps toward the door again. "Now I've said my piece. Do what you want, but think about it first."

Not wanting to hear any argument, Carson slips out of Austin's office and shuts the door before anything else can be said.

Reese is sitting at his desk, his eyes wide. He had heard the whole thing.

Carson glances at him. "What?"

A grin quirks the corner of Reese's mouth. "I'm sorry we ever lost you, Carson."

That comment takes Carson by surprise and he stops for just a moment. "I'm sorry too. See you later, Reese."

"Yeah... later." Reese watches Carson leave, a bit of sadness hitting him. He hadn't liked letting Carson go in the first place... but at the time, it had been the right thing to do. Sighing, Reese tries to get back to work, wondering if Austin would change his mind now, but too put out to ask.

Carson makes his way back across the main floor, aiming for the infirmary. His pulse quickens just a little bit, even though he tries to ignore the growing feeling in his gut. He was going to see Scott. He wanted to. He was here, so he at least could be decent enough to stop in.

Making it to the open door, he pauses a moment, then enters, rapping a knuckle on the doorframe.

Scott is sitting on top of the bed, playing a game of solitaire and looking as bored as he felt. Hearing someone at the door, but not having been able to see the movement, his head jerks up and he looks quickly. Seeing Carson, he stares at him with question. Why was he here?

Carson offers a small grin and approaches. He sees Misty nearby at her desk, but ignores her presence for now. "Hey, Scott. How you doing?"

Scott shrugs and looks back down at the game he was losing. "Ask Rick and he'll tell you not so great. Ask me and I'll tell you good enough to want to get out of here."

Carson chuckles. "Yeah, Rick can be a stick in the mud, can't he?"

Rick looks up from his work at the counter, throwing Carson a smirk. "I heard that."

"Good." Carson tosses him a wink before looking back down at Scott. "Who's winning?"

"The bed." Scott tosses his handful of cards aside.

"Now hang on." Carson spots a way to keep the game going and points it out. "You give up too fast."

Moving the cards around, Scott picks up the game again. "That's probably what everybody else is thinking right about now too."

"Don't second guess what people are thinking," Carson advises gently. He sighs and finally lets his eyes roam to Misty's part of the room.

Scott looks up and follows his gaze for a second, then looks back at him.

Carson catches his eye, realizing that a lot is being said here without words. Scott knew about the tension and was wondering about his next move. But what was his next move? His hand reaches into his pocket, fingering the small object.

Scott quirks an eyebrow, questioning Carson's hesitance. "That bad, huh?"

Carson thinks for a moment, then shrugs lamely. "I don't know anymore." Giving another little sigh, he finally moves around the bed to slowly walk to Misty's desk. Looking down at her, he does his best not to maker her uncomfortable. The last meeting had been bad enough and he didn't want a repeat. "Hi, Misty."

He clears his throat awkwardly. "I, um... I don't want to bother you. But... I just... I found..."

Pulling his hand out of his pocket, he reveals the locket she had given him what seemed like so long ago. "I figure that, um... since... well... you know... I should give his back."

Reaching down, Carson takes Misty's hand palm-up and lets the locket fall into it. Closing her fingers over it, for a moment, he doesn't want to let go. If he did, he was closing the door that was still propped open in his heart. If he did, he was letting his feelings become a memory. If he did, he was denying what he most wanted. But it was what she wanted... and he needed to respect that.

Finally he lets go, letting his own hands fall back to his sides. "So... I'll... let you get back to work." He turns around to aim at Scott once more before he left, planning on leaving TJY on foot.

Bigger problem

*Sitting next to Jason Katie can feel another shift but pays little mind to it at the moment. She was upset, she was frustrated and she was tired. Listing to Jason's words Kaite can tell once again with the words choosen something was wrong and happend. "Ok, you got it I wont step out of line."

*As Jason stands Katie does as well and is about to turn with him but he is already out the door. Just standing in the office for a moment she looks at the door where Jason had just left just a little confused by his actions. Finally leaving the office herself Katie starts in a small jog heading out of the building trying to catch up with Jason. Receving Jason's short emotional message Katie is stuned once again.

Ok, I thought maybe we could grab something to eat.

Seeing that Jason didnt change his rout or even reply to her statment Katie lets out a sigh and heads down the steps to her own car. Maybe he was just tired and frustrated with this whole thing. Katie couldnt blame him for that. It was emotionaly taxing. Getting into her car Katie just sits for a moment fishing through Jason's emotions trying to find what was wrong since he wouldnt tell her himself. But sorting through them she comes up with nothing out of the normal till finally like a brick wall Katie stops. The object beyound it hidden from her. What? Jason hadnt hid anything like this from her in a long time. Once again Katie gets Jason's message and is confused even more. He didnt want to try and make plans? Had she done something wrong.

J....wait...whats wrong with you?

Katie almost felt a suddin burst of her own emotions as she felt the sudden erge to cry and she wasnt even sure why. Than the last message comes and it explains everything to Katie so clearly. He was upset about what she said. Now going back over her own words Katie relizes her message came across wrong and Jason had taken it the wrong was to. Her own frustration and desparation starting to sink in along with the fact of being tired.

J...thats not what I ment please let me explain it to you...J...I never exspected you...I dont even...

Kaite looks out her mirror and see Jason drive off not even looking back. Her own irratation growing that Jason wouldnt now even talk to her.

Fine, whatever you know where I am if you need me.

*Starting her own car Katie stops her communication with Jason but still feeling his own frustration and the feeling of the wall it stil bothered her. Pulling out of the parking lot Katie dosnt go the same way as Jason insted she heads the oppisit way. She needed to think, she needed someplace quite to go and work over things in her mind. The beach...yes thats where the floted on the wind right now. Katie could always think there.*

*As Wendy toss and turns on Clint's bed her eyes finally open. The only lite in the room a soft glow from the outside lite shinning in. Sitting up she squints at the clock. Much time had passed and it was obveouse that Clint had not return. A sadness falls over her heart as she stands to look out the window at the darkend sky.

Her tummy giving a rumble reminds her that she not eaten anything yet. Knowing she better or she would have more of a problem on her hand Wendy goes to Clint's closet and pulls out one of his hoodies. Earlyer in the day it had been warm and she didnt need a jacket but now the nights where chille and she would need something.

Slowly leaving the bunk house the cold night air hits her noise as she sucks in. The ambeiant noises around her adding to the lulling affect. Heading to the dinning hall and entering Wendy turns the lights on knowing no one is probley awake. Looking into the fridge she can't help but smile a small container was marked with her name. It was no doubt someone new she would be hungry and saved something for her. Taking it out and opening it up there was a peace of fryed chicken, carrots, and a roll. Breaking a peace of the chicken off Wendy takes a small bit and relizes just how hungry she was. Not even bothing to warm up the rest she sits down at the table with her back to the door as she continues to eat as her mind was lost in thought.*

By the way

As Brown listens to Katie, seeing her getting more and more upset, a strange agitation comes over him. Strumming his fingers on his desk, he fidgets nervously, not understanding why all of a sudden he felt this way.

Jason eyes him and knows what's happening, but can do nothing. His own emotions bubble and boil within himself, twisted and turned in different directions as Katie's own anger disrupts the connection.

Take it easy. We don't need a scene here when we're trying to get somewhere.

He didn't mean to make his emotions harsh, but he just wanted to get this over with and get out of here. He didn't want to have to sit around explaining to Brown if his and Katie's emotions did any damage here tonight.

As Katie spouts off about Austin, Jason suddenly feels defenses rising. He was so very hurt and angry with Austin himself, that he could easily promise never to respect him again. But to know that Katie would just up and leave TJY... that was something else.

Already upset the way it was, now Jason looked away from her, a glare in his eyes. He wanted to tell her right then and there, thanks a lot, but he didn't. He had no intention of leaving TJY. They needed them there. Whether Austin was being a scumbag or not, TJY still needed them, and they could better serve there than on the police force. But if that's what she wanted...

Brown is finally able to relax again, and takes a deep breath, letting it out slowly. "Well..." He looks at Katie and nods. "I see you want this carried through. And you, Jason?"

Jason works his jaw muscles, his eyes focusing on the floor. He was so mixed up and so confused... This whole thing just turned everything upside down, and made him question everything about the past. When had it started with Austin? Was anything ever real? Was his training Jason real? Was Jason really as good as Austin said he was? Did he really ever belong at TJY, or was it for Austin's own gain? And what did he really want now? This whole thing had started because of Scott, and now... now it was so much more.

"I want him to pay," he finally answers steadily. "I want him to feel like he's made everyone else feel."

Brown's eyes narrow a little bit. "Look guys... I know you are upset and you want justice for your friend and yourselves. But I need to ask you... Is this a real case, or are you just out for revenge?"

Jason leans back in his chair for a moment. He didn't even know anymore. He hadn't wanted to bring up about prison. He hadn't wanted to bring that into this. He hadn't even wanted to spill it to Katie yet, and now he knew why.

"What Austin did to Scott was wrong," Jason replies. "That's why we're here. I simply don't want Autin to continue doing it to anyone else. It can't be fixed... it's over and done. But I don't think we need a dictatorship at TJY... for those of us who will be staying."

Brown lifts an eyebrow at Jason's last statement. And it didn't excape him that suddenly Jason had said "I" insteasd of "we." He clears his throat, and nods. "Okay. What I can do is call a judge tomorrow. I will set up a meeting, then probably Austin will be called in. It won't be a court hearing or anything like that, but he'll have to explain himself. Then it will be up to the judge to decide if disciplinary action is necesary." He pauses, looking at both Jason and Katie. "We have to go by the book on this one. I want to help you. I think it was wrong of Austin. But if we don't stay within our lines, then he can turn it right back around on us. So I need you two to be on best behavior, do you understand?"

Jason swallows hard, and nods. He could be. He was an expert at masks. "You got it."

"Good. And...if there's something you need to pursue about the past and prison, and if you have hard evidence, you can bring that up as a separate issue."

"No hard evidence," Jason response coolly. "Just enough for me to know he was involved. But it's over."

Brown can see the hardness in the young man's eyes, and knows that he's shut himself down. Though feeling bad, there was nothing he could do. "Alright. Let me keep this disc and I'll be in touch."

Jason rises from his chair, ready to leave. "Thanks."

"Sure. Anytime, you guys."

Jason doesn't even wait for Katie, spinning around and stalking to the door. His only aim is to get out of the building, not even stopping to say goodbye to the other officer.

Hitting the night air, he skips down the steps and aims for his truck, fishing for keys in his pocket.

I'm going home.

His emotions were hard and cool, though half of them were now locked tightly away, not even for Katie to see.

I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow, other than waiting for Brown, but I'll probably at least see Scott again. If I happen to see you there, fine.

He reaches for the door handle and hesitates, then gets in, sliding in behind the wheel.

And by the way... if you're leaving TJY, don't expect me to follow you. I have more dedication to my mission than that.

Turning the key, he angrily starts the engine, but waits several moments to calm himself down before pulling away.

Wont have to quit.

*Katie can't help but laugh at Jason comment though in her reply there seemed to be some sort of truth and seriousness.

Right about now I would rather be on this payroll. The Elite is not what I signed up for, TJY is.

A shift in the wind that Continuing to walk Katie keeps he pase a quick one though she could feel something differnt about Jason wasnt being told and it put her on edge just a little.

Entering Katie holds her own searouse look one though could let anyone know something really was wrong. It was not often someone got to see her upset or even mad so when it did happen it scaired some.

As Jason hands over the disk Katie's own hand goes into her pocket grasping an object that Jason himself didnt even know she had. She had been smooth and slick about what she did and how she did it. Not trying to hide anything from Jason but for now it was best he didnt even know about it. Katie had done it just in case her feeling of trust for Brown was wrong.

As Brown continues his questioning Katie can feel Jason's emotions flux. She new he was upset and his feelings for Austin ran deep. If not carfel that Jason would blow and Brown did not deserve that even if it was a mistake.

Keep yourself calm J. I know your upset but you need to keep your cool.

Katie continues to listen relizing that she had become the silent one who keeps keep things smooth. She didnt mind that one bit it had been a roll she placed herself in and she kind of liked it. When she had something to say that was worth it she would and thats how one would know what she ment was sinsear and true.

Continuing to listen to Jason and the news of what he found in Austin's desk it hits Katie's ears like ice, and enters her vains like fire causing her face to turn a beat red. Austin helped rune Jason's life.....he....but....*

"WHAT? He helped....all this time, Angelica was trying but that judge was payed off to put you away...and...he was in on it? That low down dirty roten....I auta...."

*Katie can't help but have her own fists ball as for a moment her emotions go haywire, but suddanly relizeing it Katie puts the lid down on them but know like a pot about to boil she was goin to have to let them out soon. She just had to wait till she was away from people.

Turning her head Katie looks at the wall for a moment, the tears of anger welling in her eyes. The welling emotions causing a pain that made her sick to her stomach. Everything her and Jason had gone through had been Austin's help in doing. Katie would be lucky if she could ever look at Austin straght again. As for going back to work for him, No...she couldnt work for Austin and what he stood for. It went aganst everything Katie started in that company for.

As Brown asks his questions to her Katie is silent for a moment and one might think she didnt hear the questions. But finally turning Katie looks to Brown the pain in her eyes, the anger, the hate. Everything one would NEVER see in sweet Katie's eyes was there. This was a person she did not often turn into. Her voice holding a icey and cold tone she replys.*

"I want Austin to pay for what he did. I want him to pay for the mentil pain he put other through. I wont work for someone like him. As long as he runs the Elite, I wont be there. I joined TJY to help thoughs who had no hope. To help someone like Scott, and Jason get there second chanse so the innocent would be proven just that. But Austin stands for nothing of that sort. He has turned his back on what TJY really ment, everything they stood for he shot out the window. No...I wont work for a man like that so I will take this to the end and if I get fired that just means I wont have to quit. I can always find another job doing what I love. I might even join the police force."

How far?

At first, Scott doesn't even respond to Katie, just keeping his eyes down. But as she leans down and kisses his forehead, he looks up quickly, and odd sense of longing in his eye that passes quickly.

Trying to absorb her words, he musters up the energy to give her a nod. "Alright," he responds quietly. "I'll try."

His gaze follows Katie out the door, and when she's out of sight, he eases back on the bed to lay down, closing his eyes. All he wanted to do right now was just be able to function like a normal human being, and he couldn't even do that right.

Hearing a noise in the hall, his brain knew it was just Hal, but he flinches anyway, curling up into a tight ball. All he had to do was get through this night... just this night...

Jason is leaning on the wall, completely lost in thought, when Katie comes out to him again. He jumps a little, startled by her presence, but quickly recovers.

Yeah, ok. Let's go. I'll follow you, then we can split up from the station unless we need to go anywhere else tonight.

Making it outside and to the parking lot, Jason trudges to his truck with less enthusiasm than when they had come. He was just as gung-ho about their task and what needed to be done, but the wind had been taken completely out of his sails, making him question everything about himself. Austin... his own grandfather... how could he have...

Jason shakes his head and starts up the truck, following Katie out and downtown.

It doesn't take long, and once again, they're both walking up the steps and inside the police station. It was quieter tonight... late enough that most people had gone home for the night. But a few officers still lingered, including the same one who had been at the front desk earlier.

He raises his eyebrows as he sees Jason and Katie again, then a small smile curls the corner of his mouth. He thumbs down toward the hall. "He's in his office."

Jason can't help a grin, realizing that he and Katie were pretty predictable. "Thanks."

If we come down here any more often, they're gonna put us on their payroll instead of the Elite's!

Getting to Brown's office, Jason taps his knuckles lightly on the door, waiting to enter until he hears a voice bidding him to do so.

Here we go again.

Seeing the two young agents once more, Brown gives them both nods as he sits behind his desk. "Well, I wasn't expecting to see you again quite this soon. Something wrong?"

"If finding proof is wrong, then yeah." Jason reaches into his pocket, pulling out the disc. "You wanted proof of abuse. We got it."

"Ahh." Brown's eyebrows raise and he takes the disc. "Austin himself?"

"Yep."

Brown turns to insert the disc into his computer, while gesturing to Katie and Jason. "Please...sit. I have a feeling you two aren't in a huge hurry, and I'm certainly not. I got enough work here to keep me here all night if I wanted to."

Jason chuckles. "Sounds like TJY."

"I can imagine." Brown fiddles with his computer a moment, then settles back to watch the footage. Coming to the part that had convinced Jason and Katie to pursue the issue, Brown shakes his head, a frown forming. "Well, Scott certainly didn't deserve that..." He watches more, the look on his face going from disappointment to irritation. "I would think Austin would know better than that. He had be convinced this whole thing was a normal routine. I don't get it."

"Neither do we," Jason admits. "We don't know why he'd do this, other than the fact that he's just as royal scumbag."

Brown stops the disc, looking at Jason with slight surprise. "I didn't know you felt quite that strongly about him... him being your grandfather and all."

"Look..." Jason takes a deep breath, trying not to think about his earlier finding. "He's not who I thought he was. I don't know what he's become, or what he's doing, or why he's doing it."

Brown sighs deeply and leans back in his chair, quiet for several minutes as he thinks. "Well, what do you two want to do?"

"Hang him," Jason mutters.

Brown shifts his weight to lean forward instead, resting his hands on his desk, so he's closer to Jason and Katie both, though his words are aimed at Jason. "Is this about you, or about Scott?"

Jason swallows hard. After tonight, it was both. His anger resumes its boiling, the churning in his stomach starting again. "I'm here seeing you because of Scott. My hatred towards Austin goes beyond this one issue."

"And why is that?"

Jason grits his teeth. His fists are clenched so tightly in his lap, that his knuckles begin to turn white. "This isn't his first offense."

"Against you?"

Jason continues to hesitate. He hadn't had time to sort through it yet. He hadn't had time to tell Katie about it yet. But Brown wasnt going to let the issue drop.

Finally he glances up to look Brown square in the eye. His voice comes out like ice. "I found out tonight that my own grandfather helped put me in prison. How would you feel?"

Amidst the anger a deep hurt rises within him, along with the lump in his throat. He wanted to look at Katie. He wanted to talk to her about this. But he knew if he looked in her direction, he would lose control.

Brown's eyes widen. "Are you sure? You mean that murder case? But...why would he...."

"I don't know," Jason interrupts. "All I'm saying is that this isn't the first time he's pulled a stunt like this." His hands start to shake as he bottles up his emotions, trying to keep himself in check. He couldn't lose control... not here... not now.

Brown shakes his head. "I'm sorry, Jason. This must be tough on you."

"I'd rather talk about Scott."

Brown takes the hint and backs off. "Alright. How far do you two want to take this? Do you want to lodge an official complaint and force Austin to go before a judge? Do you simply want me to talk with him and serve a reprimand? What is it you're looking for?"

Jason tries to stay focused, though it's difficult as a headache starts to form. "We just don't want him to get away with this."

Brown picks up a pencil to fidget with. "Katie? What about you? Are you intent on getting Austin in hot water, or just warm enough to remind him what he's supposed to be doing?"

Worst two months

*Continuing to follow Jason to the infermary her mind wonders. It was nice to know other people like Hal would stand behind them in what they were doing. It made them seem a little less lonley. Katie wondered though with all the people they could get behind them how hard would this be? Through her anger and hate she couldnt help the looming feeling of a dark storm cloud that was going to go terrably wrong.

Once caring only about herself and keeping herself locked away from any emotional feelings, now Katie faught for one of her best friends and his right and the wrongs of other. It had been a long while since Katie had said she hated anyone and now once again the feeling was there. It was a feeling she herself hated having and that drove her anger even more knowing someone had pushed her that far.

Finally Katie's mind rests on what Jason had said earlyer about wishing he new Austin would do this. No, no one could of know this was going to happen. Blood or not there was just no way. Something had happend, something had went wrong, something was un answered.

Bringing her thoughts back to the here and now as the enter the infermary Katie looks at her friend as she throws away his food and returns to the bed kicking off his shoes after Jason's question. Katie couldnt help but feel oh so bad for him. The once strong man that she had grown close to and even loved at one point in time was now so small. The consistent loss of weaght and the dull look in his eyes drove a knife home for Katie. How she hated seeing Scott like it.

ok, I'll be right out J. Thanks.

Once Jason is gone Katie makes her way to Scott's bed the best smile she can forming.*

"Hey Scotty. I know you hate staying here but, all and all its for the best ya know. We are just looking out for you and want to make sure we keep you safe. We are doing everything we can to make sure Austin pays for what he did. No one hurts my friend and gets away with it."

*Katie lays a gentil hand on Scott's arm as she talks.*

"Your my friend, and I care so much about you Scotty. I went two months thinking you were dead and it was the worst two months of my life. I don't want to lose you again, I don't want to have to feel what I did again. Stay strong ok for me...?"

*Leaning in Katie gives Scott a kiss on the forhead and than turns to leave stoping for a moment and throwing him another smile one that help truth and a promise.*

"If you need think call I got my phone on me. We will be back, and we wont give up. So dont you give up eather."

*Leaving the infermary Katie meets up with Jason again.

Alright J lets get going.*

As Katie reacts to the findings, Jason grits his teeth, feeling the immediate shift in their connection. It never really hurt, but it was a definite discomfort. He knew that both of them couldn't help the way they felt though, and he'd already put Katie through enough tonight that he would never think of complaining. She hadn't bugged him about it, but he knew that most likely, she'd felt just as sick as he actually had been.

Looking up at Katie as she suggests going to Brown, he nods. "Yeah... I don't know what he's going to say, but we might as well show him this. Might not get us anywhere, but it might, so it's worth a try."

For a few moments, Jason gets lost in his own jumbled thoughts. He knew they should leave immediately for two reasons - one, so no one caught them here while they were suspended, and two, so they could catch Brown before he went home. But the shock of all the findings tonight weighed so heavily on him that it was almost as if for a moment he couldn't even move.

Finally standing up, Jason ejects the disc and puts it in his jacket pocket. "Okay... let's go."

Making it to the door, Jason stops once more, his back to Katie. Still feeling her own strain, and knowing the anger and hurt she herself felt, he turns around and impulsively pulls her into a strong hug.

I'm sorry all this is happening. I know it's not my fault, but this is my own grandfather. I guess I feel like there's something more I should have done, or could be doing. If only I would have seen things sooner. I should have seen this coming... I should have seen the signs so much sooner.

Backing away, Jason looks down into Katie's eyes as if searching for the world and finding her soul. He knew that the emotions being shared were ones of anger, hate, hurt, and a slow and steady coldness that was settling over the flames, killing all warm feelings towards his own grandfather. There was more. Whatever else he had found, had sealed his hate. He knew Katie would force him to revisit it later so she would know, but at this moment, it was too much to handle. Tonight they were on a different mission.

Spinning around, Jason heads for the infirmary again. "Let's go. We don't have a whole lot of time."

Halfway there, Hal meets them, a bucket of cleaning supplies in hand. He lifts an eyebrow at Katie and Jason, stopping near the infirmary. "Well hello. Didn't think I'd see you for a while."

Jason cocks his head. "Why not?"

Hal almost laughs. "You think the news of someone getting suspended wouldn't travel around here?" He grins. "But I guess I shouldn't have been surprised to see you. Find anything?"

Jason looks at him cautiously. He trusted Hal, but the question sent up a red flag. "Who said we were looking for anything?"

Hal smirks at him. "I'm not stupid. I was going to go hunting myself while I cleaned tonight. I just want to know if I have to now."

"No... you don't have to."

"Good." Hal nods with satisfaction, respecting secrecy and trusting Jason and Katie fully.

"There is something you can do though," Jason requests. "Keep an eye on Scott? He wanted to go home tonight, but we didn't think it was a good idea."

"You were right. Last couple nights he's screamed up a storm from those nightmares he's been having." Hal shakes his head. "Nothing I could do but let him get through it on his own. I mentioned it to Rick, but he said not much other than time would help." He sighs deeply. "Anyway, yeah, I already was watching him. Rick asked me to. I've been up and down this hallway every few minutes, and I got the cameras watching the front door so I'll know if somebody comes in."

Jason nods his appreciation. "Thanks, Hal."

"Hey... don't thank me. I want to help as much as you do."

Jason knew that there was much more meaning in Hal's words than a simple longing to help Scott. Hal obviously had feelings against Austin now too, even if he wouldn't say so directly. "Alright. Katie and I will be gone in a few minutes."

"Great. And Hotshot...watch your back."

Jason grins and thumbs to Katie. "What do you think I got her for?"

Making it the rest of the way to the infirmary, Jason stops in the doorway, seeing Scott on the edge of the bed.

Scott was still where he had been, still not taken his shoes off, and still not cleaned up the leftover supper. Seeing a shadow on the floor, his head jerks up, taking just a second to recognize his two friends again. As if being brought out of a trance, he stands up slowly and goes to throw away the leftover food, then sit back down on the bed. "Find what you wanted?" he asks quietly.

Jason approaches slowly, and nods. "Yeah... we did."

Scott looks up at him, then at Katie, his own eye showing proof that he realized they knew more now, and though knowing it hadn't been at all his fault, embarrassment was still there. "Guess you're leaving now then."

"Yep. And you are...?" Jason lets his question hang, wanting Scott to answer it.

"Staying here," Scott mumbles. He kicks off his shoes and pulls his legs up on the bed to sit cross-legged, staring at the floor.

Jason gives a little sigh. There was nothing more he could do.

I'll be out in the hall. See if you can make sure he'll stay here, then we can get going.

He nods his farewell to Scott, then sidles past Katie and out into the hall to wait.

Anger

*Heading down the hall and to the offices Katie keeps her eyes open her bodyguard instincks kicking in. This was dangerouse if not by death it was for another reason and she would rather they be safe than sorry. Giving one more look around Katie finally slips into the office shutting the door behind her. Following Jason into Austins office Katie breaks off from Jason looking through shelfs, boxs, and cabnits.

There has got to be something Austin is hiding if the disk is missing from that night, why alse would he get rid of it or hide it.

Katie continues to look flipping through books as Jason makes his way to the desk. In a moment's time Katie is hit with a wave of anger, dizzyness and a sudden larch in her stomach only to go as fast as they came being shut off, locked away from Katie's mind. Looking up she just eyes Jason for a moment knowing something was wrong. Jason found something that he was not telling her. About to say something about it to Jason he makes his way to the exit ordering her to keep looking and than leaving before she can even say anything alse. Her eyes following him to the door she can feel his stomach reaction and for a moment feels ill herself. Trying to continue with what she was doing Katie searchs a few more place before feeling the vilont sickness over again as she could tell Jason was throwing up. Going down to her own hands and knees for a moment the feeling finally pass before Katie can send any message to Jason.

Job or no job you shouldnt keep your feels locked up like that. You know better than that. I will come back to this later to find out what happend J.

Feeling he was ok Katie continues to look waiting for Jason's return. Finally Jason re enters and Katie is once again comfortable looking around knowing her partner in crime was ok.

Minutes seems to pass and all hope seems loss till Katie finally hears the clicks of a brefcase and looks up to see Jason holding up a disk.

Jackpot.

Moving out of the office once again and heading to Jason's Katie pulls up a chair to his desk strattaling it and resting her arms over the back. Stairing at the computer screen as everything starts to boot and run.

Watching the scenes in front of her Katie lets out a frustrated sigh seeing nothing incrimanating about them. Leaning her head in her arms for just a moment she is about to tell Jason it was no use and to turn it off when she head shoots up from the yelling. Watching the screen even more Katie's anger boils once again as she sits up from her chair slightly almost ready to lash out at the TV itself. Continuing to watch her eyes burn with fire once again as she can feel her hand balling into fists. How could he? How could Austin do this? This wasnt right, no excuse could cover this up.

Finally jumping from her chair Katie turns the tv off fast as Jason's words echo. Turning her back to him for a moment Katie's anger brings fire red hot tears to her eyes. Staying silent for a moment Katie trys to controll her emotions just a little as to not drive Jason up a wall. Turning back to him Katie gives a strong nod.*

"I say we bring it to him now. This can't wait another day J. This is major. Let's check Scott one last time to make sure he is ok. Ask Hal to keep an eye on him and than head to Brown. I know he is working late tonight."

Boiling emotions

Domino looks up at Katie and cocks her head with question, then gives a little sigh, turning around and trotting back to the infirmary.

Scott eases down on the bed, but doesn't kick off his shoes. He just sits, staring at the floor. He didn't even know how he felt. He wasn't mad... he wasn't sad... he wasn't angry... maybe frustrated. It was all just... numb.

His eyes find the supper that he'd barely touched. He better throw it away before Rick saw it and gave him a bad time.

Jason tries to refocus and get back on task.

Um...I don't know. My guess would be Reese's office. If nothing is there, we'll hit Carter's.

As he starts down the hall, he turns his head to roll his eyes. "I do not know this place better than you."

Heading to the dimly-lit main floor, then to the back, Jason aims through Susanne's office to Reese's. Finding the door open, he lets himself inside, gesturing for Katie to follow. Flipping on the light, he scans the office.

"Well... I know he keeps camera footage in the safe, but..." He thinks as he talks, wandering around behind the desk to the bookshelves. "...I think..." He shifts a few books around, then spies a small box of discs. "Ah. Here."

Jason takes the box off the shelf and sets it on the desk, starting to flip through the labeled discs. Mumbling to himself as he goes, he finds dates, but nothing from the other night. "Hmm. Not here. That's odd. He has everything else."

Setting his hands on his hips, he thinks for a moment. "Austin isn't dumb...I wonder if he kept the footage himself."

Moving to the other door, he tries the knob, but it's locked. "Sure...figures. He doesn't trust anybody anymore, does he?"

Glancing around, Jason goes to the lamp on Reese's desk. Tipping it up, he reveals a key underneath. "Bingo."

Going back to the door, he has it open within seconds. Turning on the light, he lifts his eyebrows.

For someone who usually keeps a neat office, this is a mess.

Books and papers and files were everywhere in cluttered piles. Though it wasn't really unkempt, it wasn't quite the way Austin used to keep his office.

"I have no idea where to look." Without even thinking, Jason goes to the desk, opening drawers and scanning contents. Shuffling through some old papers, his fingers glide across an envelope marked "private." Too curious to pass by, he takes out the letter, expecting it to just be some dead case he wouldn't care about.

But as his eyes read the words, his stomach starts to churn.

"Proof of the murder...
...detectives doing their job... Prison in no time... your assistance appreciated..."

Swallowing hard, Jason turns the envelope over to look at the date. It had been that spring.

Stuffing the paper back into the envelope, he throws it back into the drawer, slamming it shut. Anger starts to bubble from within, like a boiling pot, though he tries to keep it quiet. His emotions start to bounce around uncontrollably, and for a moment, he has to take a deep breath to calm himself and combat a wave of dizziness. He shouldn't be surprised. He shouldn't be. It made sense. He shouldn't think anything of it. But it didn't matter....the hurt he'd been battling against was now multiplied by one hundred, stabbing him deeper than almost anything he'd felt before.

As he starts back looking around the room, he keeps his emotions down deep so they don't bother Katie, trying to hide the fact of his shock. But it was so severe that keeping it locked up only served to affect him physically.

Feeling sick, he grits his teeth against the churning in his stomach. "Keep looking," he directs Katie. "I'll... I'll be right back."

Not letting her question him, and staying closed to any silent communication, he stalks back through Reese's office out onto the floor again. Down the hall and to the bathroom, he finally lets go, his supper coming back up all at once.

Groaning, he leans on the toilet until he's sure his stomach is empty. He knew if he wouldn't have bottled up his emotions this wouldn't have happened, but he didn't like just letting them go all the time. It wasn't fair to Katie, and he didn't want to talk about it right now. They had a job to do, and didn't have time to sit around whining about something that was said and done months ago.

Moving to the sink to rinse his mouth and splash cold water on his face, he tries to collect himself before heading back to Austin's office. He knew Katie would wonder what on earth just happened, but he couldn't tell her... not right now... later maybe, when this thing with Scott was settled.

Getting back to the office, he enters again, looking over his shoulder to make sure no one had come in by surprise. "Find anything?"

He keeps his eyes down, continuing his own search. Spying a briefcase in the corner, he aims for it. Setting it up on the desk, he realizes that it was locked with a combination lock. Thinking a moment, he tries a couple numbers, and sure enough, the locks pop open.

And I thought he was smart. He still uses his Agent number.

Opening up the case, a disc falls out. It was marked "Johnson interrogation."

"Gotcha." Closing up the briefcase again, Jason motions Katie to get out of the office with him. Shutting off the light, relocking the door and putting the key back, Jason heads for his own office. "Come on. We'll take a look at this on my computer. That way if anybody comes in, we'll just be in my office instead of the boss'."

Once there, it doesn't take long to view the footage that had been burned onto the disc.

"I'm surprised he didn't destroy this," Jason comments. His stomach gives another little lurch and his hands shake slightly, though he tries to ignore it.

As the program on his computer starts, he nonchalantly reaches into one of the desk drawers to pull out the bottle of sugar pills Misty had given him a while back. Popping one in his mouth, he swallows it without water, keeping his concentration on the computer and not on the fact that he knew Katie would be watching him like a hawk.

The video starts to play, the angle showing it was from the camera on the ceiling in the interrogation room. Voices can be heard, muffled at first, and then Scott comes into view, pushed from behind. Forced to sit, the verbal interrogation begins.

Jason's skin crawls as he watches. The scene did nothing but upset him further.

The verbal slams continue, but nothing more than what one might expect from a normal interrogation. As it plays on, Jason finally shakes his head.

"He's being rough, but there's nothing illegal here, Katie... I just don't see..." his voice trails off as the voices on the video grow louder.

Austin's shouts are followed up by his hand slamming on the table, and Scott stands up in defense, screaming his innocence. But before he can sit back down, Austin's partner hooks the chair leg with a foot, scooting it back. As Austin orders Scott to sit back down, it's an embarrassing fall to the floor.

Laughter breaks out. It was an obvious interrogation tactic, but the taunting was uncalled for.

As Scott tries to pick himself back up, Austin's partner moves in, setting a heavy foot on top of him, preventing him from rising. The verbal taunting continues until Scott basically gives up, rolling over to curl up in a ball, obviously terrified and probably experiencing flashbacks of the Agency cell.

Jason's grip on the pencil he'd been playing with tightens, and suddenly it snaps. But his eyes stay forward.

It takes a while of shouting and prodding until finally the man physically picks Scott up, shoving him into the chair again. Scott's head barely misses the table edge, and cries out in pain, but no one cares.

"I've seen enough." Jason's tone is icy cold. "This goes straight to Brown."

Ball

*Looking at her friend Katie lets out a tired sigh. She wasnt upset with with Scott she only felt helpless and wished she could do more.*

"Scott, you always have a choise. Its just the people around you want to keep you safe and make sure you ok. If you want to go home your more than welcome too. But Jason or myself will follow to make sure your alright."

*Katie eyes are those of compation for her friend, a longing to help and keep him safe though she knows she can't always.

As long as we keep reasuring him I think he should be ok. We just have to be pashent, I know he can make it through he's strong.

Watching as Scott makes his way back to the infermary Katie looks down at Domino and gives the confused dog a small nod.*

"Go on Domino, keep him safe for me huh?"

*Giving a small smile Katie turns.

Ok, lets see would the camra hook up be in Dalton's office or Reese and Carter's office? We can eather split up or stay together. Unless you know right where they are since you know this place better than me.*

*Giving a ruffle to the small boys hair Damien smiles as BJ picks up the ball once more. Nothing gave him more joy than these few moments when he got to spend time with his son. Things in his life were going better and work seemed to be coming easier at the ranch not to far from the R/M. Gaining his own handle on life Damien was happy to be where he was here and now. Also thankful for the understanding, forgiveness, and acceptance of the others though it came slow.*

“Ok…throw is under hand this time. Don’t swing your arm to far back....”

*Damien makes a motion with his own arm as he stands a few feet away from BJ. For a moment he watches as BJ trys to mimic his movements but just can’t get it right sending the ball only a few steps away. Shaking his head Damien just smiles at his son and picks up the ball.*

“Here let me help you so you can get a feel for it.”

*BJ’s bright eyes look up at Damien as he drew closer to help. He’s seen this man on and off and though Rosetta and Mick had both explained to him who he was he still had a hard time understanding. To BJ, Mick was his father. Trying to comprehend anyways BJ enjoyed the time he spent with Damien and having someone to play with in the off season at the ranch was always a pulse.*

*Coming up behind BJ Damien hands him the ball and stands behind him. Reaching out he places his one hand on the boys shoulder and the other on his arm…*

“Here you throw is like this.”

*Bringing BJ’s arm back and than then forward Damien shows him the motion.*

“Ok now your try on your own.”

*Doing exactly how Damien showed him BJ brings his arm back and than forward letting the ball go. Seeing the ball go flying a bit forward farther than he had before a squeal of excitement comes from him turning to look up at Damien his eyes lit up with excitement.*

“I did it, I did it.”

*A smile spreads across Damien’s face at BJ’s excitement a tingly of joy serging through his heart that he was able to teach his son something.*

“You did buddy. You’re a pretty fast learner.”

*Turning again BJ breaks out in a small run as he head to the house before stopping and turning back around.*

“I’m going to show Mom and Dad what you taught me. They will be happy to, maybe now I can go with Dad when he rounds up horses.”

*Turning again BJ finishes making his way to the house.*

*Watching BJ run to the house and hearing his words a sudden pain hits home for Damien. It was something he new was bound to happen but it hit harder than he had expected to hear his son call someone else dad. Trying to let the feeling fade Damien new this was best. BJ was in a good home with a loving family and he didn’t have to worry if his son was being taken care of or not. Mick and Rosetta were good for BJ, and he could see him when he wanted. Not many people were able to say the same but at least God gave him that much.

Turning Damien lets out a small sigh and turns to head back to his truck. His time spend here was nice like always and having a few hours with BJ was good. Though it got Damien down at time he tried to keep his head high and know everything was for the best.*

Let's

Scott flinches a little as Katie touches him, but knowing it was just her, he tries not to react. It was just so hard. Color comes to his face, proving that mixed with the fear was embarrassment for his display.

"Not ready, huh?" he mumbles. "Won't let me go alone? Does a lot for the ego, doesn't it."

Jason sets his hands on his hips, letting out a quiet sigh.

All we're doing is making him feel worse. I wish he could just be stronger right about now, at least until we could get through this bad spell. Maybe he needs a different reason to stay.

Ambling over to his friend, Jason squats down in front of him. "Scott, I haven't a doubt in my mind that if you really wanted to go home, that you could do it. It's not like you don't know the way. But you gotta listen to us. Rick aside, you being ready or not aside... If you're not in that infirmary tomorrow..."

Scott looks up quickly, hearing the implication in Jason's voice. "I don't work here anymore, do I?"

"I wouldn't say that," Jason counters evenly. "But at this stage of the game, we need you to stick around here. Otherwise, our efforts are for naught. The longer you stay, the better, because as long as we got Rick's medical advice to back it up, no one can force you out."

Scott drops his gaze. He felt unwanted anyway, just knowing that someone didn't want him here... most likely it was just Austin, by the way everyone else acted. But if Jason and Katie were working on something, and they wanted him to stay... then maybe he should do it for them.

"Alright." Scott shrugs lamely. "Doesn't look like I've got much of a choice."

"You do," Jason corrects. "But I know you want justice as much as we do, and if that's true, then we have to win this battle one way or another. Unfortunately, you're stuck in the middle. But I know you can handle it."

I hope he can... oh, do I hope he can.

Scott is silent for a moment, then finally picks himself up off the floor, refusing help. "Fine..." He scuffs his feet on the floor on his way back to the infirmary. "...But I'm going home... soon.... I'm going home."

Watching Scott go, Jason stands up, giving Katie a hand too.

Well... we won that battle. It was close though. I bet he feels like a trapped animal, and I know he's embarrassed that he can't function, even though he isn't even thinking straight. I just... I feel so bad.

He sighs. "Let's get looking for the cameras."

Alone

*Watching Scott Katie's heart goes out to him she new he wanted to go home and he hated being here. She couldnt blame him eather being put in one place for two long always made her antsy.

He can't leave he's not ready...we can't let him go but we can't force him to stay eather.

Leting out a heavy sigh Katie takes a few steps forward.*

"Scott, please stay here with us? We were looking forward to seeing you, and right now its best you stay here so Rick and Misty can keep an eye on you. I am sure tomarrow he will let you go home."

*Katie moves to the side as Scott gets up and heads to the door. She had to think of something they couldnt let Scott leave.

As Jason trys to stop Scott Katie watches only to have her own eyes widen just a little bit. Scott's reaction only proved he was not ready to go. Reaching down and giving Domino a small pat on the head to reasure her everything was ok Katie goes over to Scott.

I know we want to look at those camras but we have to take care of Scott first and make sure he is going to be ok before anything alse.

Bending down next to Scott Katie reachs he hand out and gently lays it on his arm.*

"Scotty, I know you want to go home so bad. But there is good reason Rick is having you stay. We can't stop you from leaving but I am begging you as your friend please don't go yet. Your not ready and in the long run this wont help you at all."

*Removing her hand Katie lets out a sigh her eyes showing sadness, and sorrow for her friend. She hurt for him.*

"I can't make you stay Scott but if you go we plan on following you because your not going alone."

What do we do?

Jason grins and slings his arm around Katie as they walk into TJY. “Yeah, I haven’t quite figured out yet how I can miss you.”

Getting inside, Jason stays on high alert for anyone else in the building. He knew Ty and Hal were probably around, and while cleaning, could pop up out of nowhere, or overhear conversations not meant for other ears.

Arriving at the infirmary, Jason sticks close to Katie, knowing that she had more of a plan in mind than he did. At this point, any plan of his own would involve knocking Austin’s block off, and since that wasn’t a smart option, he chose to simply follow Katie’s lead.

Entering, Jason sees Scott appearing to leave as well, and his own questions surface.

Scott’s head jerks up at the arrival of others, and for just a moment, a look of guilt crosses his face, then disperses. Looking at Jason, then back to Katie, he hesitates. “I… no, I’m not hungry,” he mumbles, then leans down to slip his shoes on and tries to tie them, though his fingers don’t want to work right.

Domino bounds off the bed at seeing Katie, running over to her and sliding on the tiles. Jumping up on Katie’s leg, she wiggles all over, thrilled to see her friend.

Jason quirks an eyebrow, noting that Scott hadn’t answered Katie’s last question.

Is it just me, or is something a little off here?

“Got a date?” he teases lightly.

Scott fumbles to finish tying his shoes, then sits up. His gaze is dim, his slouched shoulders proving that he found no humor in the joke. “I’m going home.”

Jason’s eyes widen. “Home? Rick released you?”

“Not really… but… I want to go anyway.”

Jason takes a step forward.

He’s in no shape to go home yet. What is he thinking?

“Well we’re going to be around here for a little while, Scott… how about you at least stick around with us?”

Scott shakes his head and pulls on his hoodie. “I just want to go home.”

“But Scott…. Listen… Rick didn’t release you for good reasons. If you’re not comfortable here alone, then one of us can stay with you, alright? But there’s no point in you walking home. Besides, it’s getting dark and it’s cold.”

Scott stands, looking up at Jason. “I spent two months in a dark, cold cell,” he replies weakly. “I think I can handle a walk in the weather.” He starts forward, trudging out of the infirmary.

Domino gives a little whine and looks to Katie, then to her master, trying to figure out what she was supposed to do. Finally she drops back on all fours and trots after her master.

Jason looks to Katie quickly.

We can’t let him leave… not like this. I don’t care how much he wants to go home, we can’t let him. The Agency could be looking for him, not to mention his own mental state.

“Scott… hold up.” Jason follows him into the hall. “Just hang on a second.” He reaches out, taking Scott’s arm.

Scott wasn’t paying attention enough to realize Jason was that close, and as the fingers wrap around his arm, an instant panic shoots through his veins.

Whipping around, he yanks his arm from Jason’s grasp, tripping, and stumbling back into the wall. His foot catches Domino, and she lets out a yelp, not understanding why she’d just been kicked, and she goes scampering back to Katie.

“Whoa, whoa, it’s ok,” Jason tries to assure. He holds up his hands. “It’s just me.”

Fear courses through Scott’s eye as he shakes. He felt scared. He felt stupid. He just wanted to get out of here where he didn’t have to keep being scared of things. He just wanted to be left alone so he wouldn’t have to be on edge.

He fights the dreaded tears that wanted to come. “Just leave me alone,” he begs. “I can’t… I just…” Not even able to make any sense of his own jumbled thoughts, he slides to the hallway floor.

Sorrow hits Jason’s heart. Something had to be done. But what?

What do we do, Katie? Stay here? Let him go? Go with him? We gotta find the evidence you want before anybody else shows up, but we can’t just leave Scott like this.

Madness

*Watching Jim for a moment Wendy turns her gaze to the driveway once more hoping to hear the sound of Clint's bike. Letting out a sigh Wendy turns closing the door behind her. Just a little while longer thats all. She just wanted to wait a little longer. Going back to the bed she sits down and pulls her feet up resting her head on Clint's pillow the smell from his hair still longering on it brings a tear to her eye.*

"God, I know what we did was wrong, and I know there is no going back but please let things work out. Everything is in your hands and you know what is right and good. Please keep Clint safe as well where ever he is."

*Stairing into the dark Wendy finally closes her eyes. The stress of the day wearing on her and the emotions taking there toll till finally she is asleep.*

* It's madness thats what it is...

Continuing to let her own thought spin Katie also listens to Jason. Some the emotions he felt, Katie had felt too. She new they where there thought she hadnt know how deep they really ran. Trying to controll her own emotions to not cause anymore stress to him. She new he needed to vent, and let his emotions and feeling out.

I guess this whole thing made me kind of stop and wonder if it had been anyone alse other than Scott would he have bothered to come and look for us? And if he did what made us so differnt?

Sitting up from the bed Katie stands and takes a step forward kicking something with her foot. Looking down she see Domino's bone laying on the floor and a suddin wave of sadness comes over her. She missed having the little dog around but was happy she was reunighted with her master. Maybe Katie would have to get a pet of her own. Katie can't help but giggle as she feels Jason's emotions with Trooper. Rubbing her own knee from the wave of pain that went through it. The big dog might be a good guard dog but once you gained his loylty he was a teddy bear.

He just want's to play you know and speeking of which you better get something to eat or I am gonna kick your butt...*

~*~A few hours later~*~

*As Katie see Jason come into view a smile spreads across her face. She always loved seeing him no matter what kind of mood she was in. He could always put that smile on her face and she loved it.

Parking Katie gets out and joins Jason wrapping her arms around him for a hug.*

"You know I can talk to you whenever I want to and I always feel you but I still miss you when your not around. Its funny how that works."

*Giving him a soft smile Katie wraps her fingers around Jason and heads inside. Making there way across the floor it felt strange to Katie to be there but not working it even made her a little upset though trying not to let it show.

Before we take a look at those camras I'd like to check on Scott and make sure he is doing ok.

Heading for the infermary Katie gives a soft knock on the door and than opens it. Seeing Scott awake at first makes her happy. Seeing him sit up was even better. Giving a smile Katie lets go of Jason's hand and enters the room more.*

"Hey there Scotty. J and I thought we would stop by and keep you company for a little bit. Are you hungry or an...."

*Katie's words trail off as she notices Scott's socks were on and shoes close by. A wave of consern rolls over her as she glances to Jason for a moment.*

"Hey...it looks like your getting around pretty good now with you socks on. Where were you heading to?"
